I can't believe a hundred seventy people would say they didn't like this this is some of the greatest country music there ever was I know Jimmy Fortune came in after the original gentleman passed away but you got to give him credit he's got a voice like no other in The Statler Brothers I'll tell you what can bring a tear to your eye when they sing because they bring their heart and soul to their music God bless Statler Brothers and may God bless him with long lives
My youngest sister passed away in July of last year. Her name is Mary Elizabeth. I heard the Statler Brothers song "oh Elizabeth" My heart sank. It was so hard to listen to. Now a year later I think it is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever Heard. Thank you Statler Brothers.
Rest In Peace, Harold Reid. You're now singing bass in Heaven's Choir. May the blessings & comfort of God attend the Reid family during their time of sadnesss.
John Collins I’m gonna cry. I didn’t know till I read this. Love that ole boy. I always go to see them around my birthday in February every year. Miss you Harold. Heavens a brighter place now.
I love them all but Reid was my favorite. I just learned today that it's a man singing tenor in the song "Amanda" by Don Williams. I thought he had a nice voice too.
The line "..don't know if I can ever live my life without you" gets me every time. I think of my son, gone 28 years. I live on without him, but I miss him every day of my life.
He wrote that song after meeting a 12 year old little girl named Elizabeth in a wheelchair at a concert one time who had no other dream but to meet Jimmy Fortune and The Statler Brothers! ❤❤❤
My dad was on the road a lot when I was little. When he would get home I'd tell him to play my song( its my name) and he would play it and let me stand on his feet and dance with me. I love u daddy
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE VOICE JIMMY FORTUNE HAS,....I WISH THAT THE STATLER BROTHERS WERE STILL PERFORMING,....I NEVER GOT TO SEE THEM PERFORM, BUT, I SURE ENJOY THEIR MUSIC, AND, THEIR BEAUTIFUL HARMONIZING.
I had tickets 3 different times for their show and only got to see them about 5 years before they stopped touring. It was, and still is, one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to.
Yeah, know what you mean. They did replace the 1 Statler, with Jimmy Fortune, but I don't know IF Harold Reid could be replaced. I'm just glad happy there is TH-cam, so we ALL get a chance to hear that TRUE, and unduplicted sound that is Country at it's Finest. I want to listen to more now, so I'm moving on, but Ruth Feder, IF you couls listen to only 1 singer, or 1 band, the Statlers would DEFINITLY BE THE ONE !
Jimmy Fortune, i love in this song. He has what I call a "shit eating grin" when singing this song. I have to listen to this song every night just to see his smile.
2/13/1984 I got news my Grandmother that helped raise me passed away. Her name was Elizabeth “Lizzie”. Months later I had my car radio on and about to drive out of the parking lot when this song came on. I had to stay in the parking area for several minutes until the tears stopped.
The Greatest Country group of all time, their wonderful voices and exquisite harmonies send shivers all over me and the goose bumps start just thinking of their beautiful songs. I live in England and never had the opportunity to see them on stage. Have all of the UK released albums and listen tom them constantly. Miss them very much, Thank you all for the wonderful times you have given my late wife and myself.
Jimmy Fortune was highly recommended by Lew DeWitt. When they hired Jimmy, Jimmy told them he would be with them until they retired. He was thrilled to be a part of the Statler Bros.
The Statler Brothers are from my home town. We're so proud of all of their accomplishments. They're all so very friendly with all of us. For 25 yrs. they performed at our July 4th celebration. Big attendence from around the world.
Kenneth Smart,Sr. I know it's like to lose the love of your life I had someone so dear to me to talk about it it's sad but it helps she was taken from me by drunk driver in a head-on collision she died shortly at the hospital why he suffered minor injuries but he's never going to drive over again because he's in a place where he belongs and I know God took my angel home like he took your angel home and someday we will see them again so God bless you and your family
My Mother was the Statler Brothers "biggest" fan. Even though Harold once told her "We have fans lots bigger than you!" Now my 3 year old granddaughter, Elizabeth, thinks this song is just for her. She will also be a Statler fan.
Harold Reid, who sang bass for the Grammy-winning country group the Statler Brothers, died on Friday, April 24th, 2002 after a long battle with kidney failure. He was 80 years old... My daughter’s middle name is Elizabeth because of this song. I was 5 months pregnant. Oh Elizabeth I long to see your pretty face. . .That-was 36 yrs ago! I was on a long road trip & this was the #1 song - played over& over & over & ....!

Fun Fact: the song was written about Elizabeth Taylor by Jimmy Fortune and when Elizabeth Taylor learned the song was written about her, she was so moved by it that she actually had the guys perform the song for her at her 52nd birthday in 1984.

Our Dad passed in September 2015. He was my longest life-friend. I've been missing him (and our Mom/2008) very much through this intense time of transition after being his primary care giver since 2008. On January 17, 2016 while traveling along on my way home from a friend's funeral, I was deeply missing Dad's company and conversation on our many drives together. That's when I decided to treat myself to a 'comfort' excursion and pulled off my travel to a little country store browsing and dinner. I'd never heard this song before until it played over the speakers while browsing that little store. Of course, I started crying - in gratitude. My name is Elizabeth... and I know with all my being, this was from Dad and Mom (she loved and used to play traditional country songs). Somehow, these moments just work like that and, personally, I believe in something greater than ourselves that creates these special moments for us. Dad used to email electronic greeting cards all the time with added notes of love and gratitude. I got the distinct feeling, he found a different way to get the message across. Good one, Dad, as usual. Love you both, always.
Thank you guy's so much!! Some time when I feel so bad feeling sorry for myself & my many friends that's not with us anymore, I play this song & feel better, please be good to your friends because one day they will be gone!! May God Bless All !!!!!!
Still don't really care for country music too much but I have a sweet spot in my heart for The Statler Brothers after Lester roadhog Moran And His Cadillac Cowboys live at the Johnny Mack Brown High School
Jimmy's now association with Ben Isaacs has brought him to an even higher level if that was possible. Superb tenor and always says if it was not for the Statlers calling him he has no idea where he would have ended up. But with a voice and talent in writing he would have pushed his way through.
Gotta say this was my parents. My dad couldn't be without her she was his world. She past in 2019 he past in 2022. Short time after her he was lost without her .
I attended a concert they did in Waco, Texas. When they sang More Than A Name On a Wall I cried for all of my brothers and sisters who's names carved on the wall. US Navy 1966-70.
We need more music like this. It makes you feel good, like singing along. I’m sure that the lack of music that required talent and that make you tap you feet, along with a belief in God, love of country and a solid 2 parent family is the cause of our decline.
We were lucky enough to see the Statlers over the years . We were saddened when Lew left due to health. Jimmy proved a wonderful replacement. I cried through their final show in Roanoke. They were just so genuine , they are missed. Harold's passing this year was so sad in a year that was bleak.
I started singing this song (don't know why)and my daughter said pretty mom.I played it for her,and realized that it also fits someone passed away.Miss you Shannon,Dad,Mom, Frank, Brian, Brian Michael 😢
The Elizabeth in my life was my Grandmother too, a feisty Scot born in Motherwell, near Glasgow. She was small but mighty and took me through life as if I were her own. I miss her every day, and she has been gone these 28 years. They were true pioneers, my Nan and Gramps, never spent a nickle on themselves but lived for their only son, my Dad who died in 2009. Needless to say, this was one of his all time favorites as well as mine!
There is not a better group of singers anywhere!!! To say that the Statler Brothers is the best is truly an understatement!! LOVE THEM and always will. Their songs bring comfort, joy and happiness to my soul. God bless them forever and so thankful to be able to hear their wonderful music.

Jimmy gave The Statlers new energy. He was a great addition after Lew retired due to health issues.
I agree with everything you said.
I can't believe it either, Jimmy is talented and I know Lew and Harold are so proud of him in heaven. Don n Phil too.
I think it's an awesome song I Love It😅
The Statlers and the Oak Ridge Boys..... the greatest voices in the history of Country and Gospel Music...... EVER!!!!
R.I.P. Harold Reid best bass singer ever. The Statlers will always be my all time favorite group
However Jimmy Fortune is the lead singer in this song, and he goes/or used to go solo, stilll sing "Elizabeth".
@robbie--I don't know, I think Paul Robeson or Tennessee Ernie Ford might have something to say about that.
All are greats! But Harold was the funniest of them. The angels have a new bass singer, if they can keep from laughing! Godspeed, Harold and Lew.
When Country Music was really Country Music.
Rest In Peace, Harold Reid. You're now singing bass in Heaven's Choir. May the blessings & comfort of God attend the Reid family during their time of sadnesss.
I wonder if Lew greeted him at the pearly gates.
@@joshuabrooks4907 I'll bet he did, then they started harmonizing.
The Host Of Angels Choir Really Gained A Strong Bass! He was always my favorite person in the band.
John Collins I’m gonna cry. I didn’t know till I read this. Love that ole boy. I always go to see them around my birthday in February every year. Miss you Harold. Heavens a brighter place now.
I got to see y'all in Fairhaven Ms
to be in a church Harold was crazy .I love y'all all
My sweet wife Elizabeth died last Friday from a sudden ruptured aorta this will be played at her funeral rest in peace precious angel
Sorry to hear that
My condolences for your dear Elizabeth
Lord have mercy on David and on Elizabeth. ❤
The biggest mistake in Ken Burns documentary was the way he ignored the Statler Brotherss.
I've always felt that Jimmy Fortune is the best tenor in country music. Perfect vocals here.
I love them all but Reid was my favorite. I just learned today that it's a man singing tenor in the song "Amanda" by Don Williams. I thought he had a nice voice too.
Such a pure voice.
Agreed. 🙂
*see above. I agree with you, Jeff Johnson 110%.
@@friendlyviewer7171 THE STARTLER BROTHERS
song written for my wife elizabeh passed away in 2015 thanks statler brors
The good old Statler Brothers, very healing ,,we need more groups like the Statlers To day
They appealed to everybody. And Jimmy Fortune was a natural fit when Lew DeWitt had to retire because of ill health.
Yes we do.
These old songs were so nice and sweet. I'll never forget how terrific they really were!
We will miss Harold terribly and that wonderful bass voice and witty sense of humor
Jimmy Fortune has a terrific voice to fit into this group
The line "..don't know if I can ever live my life without you" gets me every time. I think of my son, gone 28 years. I live on without him, but I miss him every day of my life.

Thanks....it's been hard. He was 18 when he died.

These were the days when music was still good, musicians still had talent and men were still gentlemen.
This is why I call Country Music Never will be the same live the Statler Brothers

You're so right
SOOOOO right Leslie Olson
Zero autotune!!
This makes me miss my mom and dad. This is what country music is about. Their harmony is amazing!!
My mother would play the statler's over and over again in the seventies as a kid
I agree, it makes me miss my Dad, he had a deep voice like Harold's. I got to see The Statler brothers in concert when I was a kid.
I miss you so much, my little sister, Liz.😢
I lost my little sister, Liz, 13 years ago. I miss her everyday. 😢
That Jimmy sure could sing! Great song. Very very nice.

I last saw them at Alpine Valley about 1980
I saw him solo out at va years
He was great. I love him I agree I'd love to see them tour again
We won't ever be able to see the signature lineup of the Statler brothers anymore, due to Harold's recent passing.
I had tickets 3 different times for their show and only got to see them about 5 years before they stopped touring. It was, and still is, one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to.

I saw the Statler's in concert four times and I have to say they were the best. I love everything they sang and Elizabeth is one of my favorites.
Just "down the road" in our Shenandoah Valley in Staunton was arguably the best 4 part harmony ever......The Statler's. Sure miss them!
I grew up listening to the Statler Brothers. This song makes me think of my Mommy. This was one song she really liked.❤
Such a beautiful song! One of my all time favorites.
If I could sing like this people would have to put a sock in my mouth to get me to be quiet ....beautiful voices
That Elizabeth might be a top twenty song all time?
We need more music like this. It makes you feel good, like singing along. I’m sure that the lack of music that required talent and that make you tap you feet, along with a belief in God, love of country and a solid 2 parent family is the cause of our decline.
Supply and demand. Trumptards don't appreciate music like we - the old republicans - did.
Inspired by, and sung for the late, great Elizabeth Taylor. I understand this song had her in tears. We miss you, Miss Taylor!
This song makes my heart cry as it reminds me of my dear dead husband very sad lovely song
