A really nice video. These guys had one of the most wonderful sounds in music. It's a shame the world has lost one of the best bass singers of all times. May God hold each and every one in his hand and close to his heart. I hope to one day sit in heaven and listen to all of you sing once again.
I travelled to Staunton, VA fairly often. Several locals told me that Don and Harold would walk at the local mall several days a week. People would wave at them but let them just be local people, like any other neighbor. I thought that was a prefect description of them
This song was sung at my wedding. I cried then because it was a happy time. I cry now because last year I lost my only love due to kidney failure and a heart attack.
I'm Rachel Beck and I'm using my sisters account to post this. I cry every time I watch this video or hear this song. I thank God every day for giving us the Statler Brothers and for the ability to listen to such beautiful music. Thank you for this song.
Many years ago a friend was in love. One night after having way too much to drink he put an old amp in his car along with a long extension cord and at about 2AM was just outside that girl's bedroom window. He was singing this song to her. I was standing maybe 200 feet away leaning against a tree laughing and crying both. The girl's father surprised me by just standing at the door until he finished. About 6 months later they got married. Still, after close to 30 years still married and bouncing their grandkids on their knees. My only regret is I could not video that event.
@@jeffharper7579 I should add that his now father-in-law got even with him. He was a huge Steppenwolf fan. About 2 or 3 AM his wife's folks got in his car using what I learned was an 8-track tape while parked in this guy's driveway and blasted "Born to Be Wild". This man is still alive today, in his 90s, and has a lot of grandkids and their kids. Yes, he still listens to Steppenwolf.
Me too. I looked everywhere for the lyrics and I ended up listening to it over and over hand writing the lyrics for the singers to learn the song. 27 yrs and going strong ❤️
i've now listened to this about 15 times and have decided i have to sing it at somebody's wedding. my brothers can sing alright, maybe we can get together. sure would be magical. what a fantastic song, i can't hear it enough. beautiful.
When my girlfriend and I get married and I don't know for sure when that will be but when we do I'd love to sing the song My only love to her while playing the guitar hopefully with three other people performing it with me.But I'd be happy if they play the Statler Brothers version. The Statler Brothers are much better.I'm sorry to hear that the Bass singer had passed away. Has any of the others passed away too or are there still three surviving members.I used to sing Bassin school choirs once my voice changed at 13 years old in 1970 or maybe it was at 11 or 12 years old in 1968 or 1969. Anyway I also sang Bass in Church choir with my mom and sisters who were also in the church choir when I was 14 back in 1971 when I was a Catholic. I'm a Christian now because of some weird Catholic freaks ( Two women and 1 man ) who treated me badly when I had been homeless. I'd already switched to the Christian faith but they treated me like I was a sinner for switching to the Christian faith. I no longer go to any church because I lost my faith because of them and since I had been homeless I'm now living with my sister so I don't have a Christian Church to go to.When I was in church choir I sang Bass but the choir director started another choir that did secular music ( Non Religious old standards and popular music too ) I sang Tenor in the Americana International Choir and wore International Costumes and just American clothes too. I was in Rock Bands and Country Bands too as a rhythm guitar player backup vocalist the highest vocal out of 3 or 4 vocalists at different times with the same friend who since passed away recently. In that band I later switched to playing the Bass. I also play a little bit of Mandolin and if I work at it I could learn to play keyboard too. I could play a basic beat on drums and I could play rhythm and lead guitar together but not real good lead because I have to play rhythm guitar with it. I'm going to bed now so later folks !

During my first marriage, this song came out, and I attributed it to our marriage & love, because I had loved him so much!! We went to see the Statler's whenever we could, and I think I still have many of their albums. We were headed to our State Fair in September 1982, where they were to perform, and we received a phone call, that my brother had died in a car wreck, so we didn't go to the Fair. A few years later on Memorial Day, I went to the Cemetery where my brother was buried, and behold, the Statler's were singing thru out the cemetery over the intercom, and I knew then that my brother knew, that I was there. Six years later, my husband cheated and wanted a divorce. He married another woman (diff from the affair), and claimed this song as "their song"!! My daughter was furious!! I will always love the Statler's regardless, and hope they sing to me & my daughter, when we get up there!! 💐✝️👍💕
I was in a gospel quartet for 10 years. Small time local group. But special because I sang with my late father and two men who are still my friends today. @Mattea68 it's true that he couldn't 'duplicate" Lews sound,, but he created his own "statlerized" sound,.. the Statlers never lost a step... they were great with both Lew and Jimmy
In 1963 The Statler Bros. made their first appearance in Salt Lake City on the Johnny Cash show. I was there, and never missed one of those shows, they were annual events. I'll never forget them I'll always enjoy the recordings that keep them in our lives. Every handshake and every short conversation I had with the members of the show are treasured memories now.
Jimmy had an amazing gift back in the early mid 80s. I doubt he had any idea when he was writing these great songs that 40 yrs later his music would be touching lives
Three days before our 16th anniversary, I “lost” my wife to a brain injury. That was 16 years ago. Now, 32 years into marriage, I’m a married widower. Cherish your only love today - you never know how things will be tomorrow.

From a former country music radio personality who played the Statler Brothers on the radio and was in awe of Harold's voice! What a fantastic group! RIP Harold, the angels will sound awesome with you there! Cant wait to hear you with them!
Each time I think of the loss of Harold I feel a knot in my stomach. What a legacy all of these wonderful guys have left to their families, the music world and humanity. Until we meet in the "REAL" Grand Ol' Opry! It seems like just yesterday that this video was released. I have been so blessed to be with my only one for the last 38 years and look forward to many more. What a blessing a good woman is to have in your life.
So sorry to hear of your loss. We will always remember. God comfort you all during this very difficult time. He's with Jesus now and we will see him again. 😔💙
There will never be another group who can harmonize like the Statler brothers. This just one of many that touch my soul. Thank you guys for the many years of beautiful music.

I fell in love with this song when I married in 1986. We played it and will be doing it for our renewal ceremony next year. It will be 30 years. Still have never heard any better.
This was the 1st dance song at my big day with MY ONLY LOVE 27 yrs ago. Few songs are this beautiful so thank you Jimmy for the FORTUNE of hearing it again.
Thank you Shirley D so much and I do tell him each day how I feel. Life is so precious and people don't understand until they loose someone or have their loved ones become gravely ill with an incurable disease.
Interestin' how Jimmy Fortune sings the verses, and, Don Reid, takes the lead on the choruses. ACC's #41 song of '85. God bless ya, Statlers. Thanx, VEVO, for postin' it. Have a blessed weekend!
My favorite Statler Brothers song. I marched to this song for our 25th wedding anniversary a few years ago. Before I even married my husband for our first wedding in 1994, I had a daydream about this song and the color of dress I would wear being my second marriage to my second husband. This song has become one of our songs.
My true love and I never made it to the wedding. Sadly Joe was diagnosed with cancer . I ll never get over it and it’s been 11 years. This was the song I wanted played for our first dance at the reception
Richard Tannehill true. Lost my dad my husband and my mom in less than three years and that was hard but not as hard as losing my son two years ago this Saturday.
I was lucky enough to be getting married ( 1985 ) when this song was hot. I was lucky too that the picky church singing group agreed to sing it. The rejected the other song I picked. LOL and my hubby was a groomzilla ( before there was a name for that ) I got to pick my dress one song and the match books and he picked everything else from the tux's to the cake to the venue etc. 31 years later we still doing okay ( I guess ) LOL. ty for post gb
In my humble opinion, I believe this is Jimmy's Best lead of All of the Class-act Statler Brothers songs that he was a part of. Not to take away from Any of the other "brothers", they were(are) All Great and phenomenal at harmonizing! I was blessed to have been able to see them in concert back in the 80's, and Harold was surely quite the clown and loved having a good time! Heaven has gained a Great Saint and jokester!
Never even for one second take the love you have for granted . Never go to bed at night assuming tomorrow's just another day. In five short minutes your life can be turned completely upside down . You can go from this happy comfortable life to being more alone then you ever thought you could be. You can go from getting up every morning with a purpose and a plan to waking up and just hoping you can go back to sleep so you can put off facing another day alone. If you have someone that truly loves you and you love them hang on to it and cherish it because the next time you hear them say I love you may be the last time.
I can understand where you are coming from. My husband is very ill with an incurable disease and I don't know how much longer he will be with me, but I thank God for each and everyday that we are together. We were married 42 years last month and my life has been wonderful with him. This song explains our love perfectly.
Shirley D OH! yes Shirley. I HOPE MANY PEOP[LE WIll read & heed your message. Read on... On Sunday night I spoke with my only child, my very loved and loving son. The last words we spoke were " good night baby, I love you" and he replied to me "I love you too, Mama". He was killed the next day in a motorcycle accident . That was 10 years ago. My heart is still broken, I think of him every single day, BUT I am so at peace with the our last words. He was indeed my only love.
Shirley D Just wanted to say that I lost my beloved husband, Kenneth and buried him this week and I am so heartbroken. We were married 42 years. I am so thankful that I told him daily that I loved him...
What one may say about this providential song?? Perfect words ,very beautiful music looks like they came from paradise. Each time i hear turning back a happy days.i love country music so much.

Harold Reid, George Jones, Merle Haggard,Marty Robbins ... Throw George Younce, Glenn Payne in there ... It just don't get any better than that.
I kinda wish we had a passing of the torch - Jimmy and Lew together on a Statler song.
@@juliefulton9934, the Gaithers are terrible.
Richard Skola beautiful memories. thanks for sharing
“I can’t believe the way I feel, you’re so special, you’re so real.” RIP Harold
The Prettiest Words in a Beautiful Song written by Little Jimmie Fortune, the newest member of the Staler Brothers before they Retired
Jimmy had an amazing gift back in the early mid 80s. I doubt he had any idea when he was writing these great songs that 40 yrs later his music would be touching lives
They sang together for twenty more years.
Three days before our 16th anniversary, I “lost” my wife to a brain injury. That was 16 years ago. Now, 32 years into marriage, I’m a married widower. Cherish your only love today - you never know how things will be tomorrow.
Jimmy has an amazing voice...absolutely love it ❤

The Statlers & The Oak Ridge Boys were the best in the west when it came to very special music like this. Thanks for sharing this beauty with us.
This was me and my wife's wedding song in 2009. She is truly My Only Love. I grew up on the Statlers and love all their music.

I fell in love with this song when I married in 1986. We played it and will be doing it for our renewal ceremony next year. It will be 30 years. Still have never heard any better.
One of the best groups ever...cant beat those harmonies
This was the 1st dance song at my big day with MY ONLY LOVE 27 yrs ago. Few songs are this beautiful so thank you Jimmy for the FORTUNE of hearing it again.
Thanks for the songs, Harold, fly high, sir ♡♡♡
Thank you Shirley D so much and I do tell him each day how I feel. Life is so precious and people don't understand until they loose someone or have their loved ones become gravely ill with an incurable disease.
Interestin' how Jimmy Fortune sings the verses, and, Don Reid, takes the lead on the choruses. ACC's #41 song of '85. God bless ya, Statlers. Thanx, VEVO, for postin' it. Have a blessed weekend!
33 years ago today we played this song at our wedding. The words mean so much! He's still my only love
Hey how are you doing..?
This was the song my husband Paul and I danced to 20 years ago. Paul is and will always be my only love.
The Statler Brothers sang this song at my wedding 38 Yeats ago. I've always loved them and this song and I still feel the same way about my husband.
Hey how are you doing today?
This is a by gone era of very good country singers and music. Thanks for the memories Jimmy Fortune and all the Statler brothers.
Wonderful song with meaningful words. 57 years with my gal Joan and hoping for many more to come.
I hope many more years for you, too.
Cherish every day, they are too short. God bless your marriage .
RIP Harold..thanks for all the memories
My favorite Statler Brothers song. I marched to this song for our 25th wedding anniversary a few years ago. Before I even married my husband for our first wedding in 1994, I had a daydream about this song and the color of dress I would wear being my second marriage to my second husband. This song has become one of our songs.
Hey how are you doing today?
If there's a prettier love song, I haven't heard it. Thanks for this beauty.
Ed Ames' My Cup Runneth Over with Love is one.
This was my wedding song. I finally got it right and thank my Lord for my wonderful husband.
My true love and I never made it to the wedding. Sadly Joe was diagnosed with cancer . I ll never get over it and it’s been 11 years. This was the song I wanted played for our first dance at the reception
Angela Barrineau ..So very sorry for your loss ,....
I lost my wife of 30 years to an unexpected massive stroke last year, and it's more true than most of you can know, until it happens to you.
Richard Tannehill true. Lost my dad my husband and my mom in less than three years and that was hard but not as hard as losing my son two years ago this Saturday.
Lost my only love at 42 seven years ago. I’ll never be with anyone else. She was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer. She died three weeks later.
Sending this to a Great Friends on there 44 years of marriage. Lee & Anita Almond
There guys are the greatest, how blessed they are to have been able to sing as they have for all these years.....
timelsess, what a great song. nobody does it better.
Annette Lynch true very true
Sounds like this is from experience.
L. Mary Lawson I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a son and I can't imagine my life without him. I'm so truly sorry.
Shirley D Just wanted to say that I lost my beloved husband, Kenneth and buried him this week and I am so heartbroken. We were married 42 years. I am so thankful that I told him daily that I loved him...
Thank you to TH-cam for putting this mix together! I love every cut!

Their Papa taught them well... Just wish I could've fulfilled his dream of them singing at his funeral.... He was their Biggest Fan!!!!

This is the most beautiful song and video I have EVER seen!🤩🥰 makes me cry everytime
This song is very nice. I have live stage pictures from a '77 concert in Grand Rapids. Vacuum sealed in perfect condition to any collectors. All four of the original Statlers on stage. They did a very good show.
People just enjoy the beautiful harmony. They can take care of their own lives.
