    Makenzie, I just want to say girl you are probably the best teacher I have seen on TH-cam for teaching Stained glass, I am new to learning this art form, I've always wanted to learn it but I took a different direction and went to school for silversmithing a few years ago but Im still wanting to learn stained glass work, I am so thankful I found you, Just watching you gives me confidence to tackle this, I've already made a couple of pair of earrings and I'm learning so much from you and I want to thank you for taking the time to teach people this form of art cuz I know it takes a lot of time to film these edit these videos and you you make it look easy but I know it can be tedious doing all this so thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my glass 😂

    ... to temporarily hold your roof pieces in place for tacking, I suggest using a couple of masking tape pieces across the peak of the roof and onto each roof piece, in a couple of locations. I use this method in many situations in cabinet making when assembling smaller wood pieces that have to be glued together.

    Hi Mackenzie
    Ive been watching you for a while i just subscribed today as i kept forgetting to do it, anyhow i ve been doing stained glass & leadlighting for a year now, however im 56 started late in life ive done many things, sort of taught myself a lot
    If i could ask you how do you clean the flux brush i use liquid flux, do you use water & where should i tip unwanted dirty flux liquid, it might seem like a stupid question, you are so tslented & you make it look so easy & simple Thankyou 😊

    • @MakenzieHallie
      @MakenzieHallie  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No such thing as a stupid question. And ill be totally honest with you here, i dont clean it. I use disposable flux brushes that are maybe a buck for 6 pieces. It doesnt get cleaned, just toss it when it starts to fray. And what exactly do you mean by dump dirty liquid flux? Where are you getting so much "dirty liquid flux" from?

    • @aussiemachandmadeeverything
      @aussiemachandmadeeverything 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MakenzieHallie Thankyou...I cyphon a little bit of liquid flux out of the bottle into a little jar & when the brush seems to get dirty from laying on the table, putting the brush in the flux makes it cloudy & dirty, I could probably just bury it in the ground, I don't want my little dog getting to it, I was told to switch to paste flux, I taught myself the most part, I had a guy teach me some of it initially but he didn't share everything & he didn't do things in a Safe way even the flux fumes he had it going up his nose & a few of us were doing the same, until I decided to surf the Web I found a few others & then you, you are the only one who mentioned the smoke machine so Thankyou so much, I love yr channel & all the amazing information you provide yr awesome xx 😊

    Hi Makenzie, thanks so much for doing this one, you did such a beautiful piece. My cousin has a milestone birthday coming up and her late mother left me that book. They were church people so you have inspired me to use her mother's book to make her that lamp for her birthday. I love the changes you made, that ledge is just extra pain, I agree. I also loved the painted cross instead of diamond pieces in the top front and back. Totally inspired, and you've given me confidence to try it. Thank you 🙏 from windy Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    When and why should we use different solders? And how does it affect the end product, both in its integrity, longevity, and authentic. I'm still super new, and very casually making my way through the learning process. Maybe one day I'll knuckle down and make numerous copies to compare various changes in technique and materials, but at the moment, with my casual approach, and perfectionism, it takes me forever to even make simple things.
    Any insight would be appreciated

    Just wanted to say that I loved this video, too. A question for you is-"Do you ever wax your projects afterwards?" I've seen this done by other artists and wanted to know if this is necessary? Hope you have some advice on this. Again, great job with this church!

    • @MakenzieHallie
      @MakenzieHallie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! And I do not use any wax or polish on my pieces. Never have. I just don't find it does anything. If you are someone that struggles with "white mold" development on your solder then sure. But I would just suggest properly cleaning your finished pieces to avoid that. However it all is very much personal preference for alot of these things. I would say try it first, then decide.

    I've always wanted to get into stained glass but have parrots. (Parrots are known for having a sensitive respiratory system.) How bad are the fumes really?

    • @MakenzieHallie
      @MakenzieHallie  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh jeez. I straight up am just not qualified enough to confidently answer that question. No matter what your using for a fume extractor. My initial instinct is to say it's fine, keep it in the art room, away from the birds, use your fume extractor -the flux fumes is what were avoiding. But i just don't know. With your babies involved i would do some research on it first. Don't just take my word please. (I personally do not worry about it at all. I use my fume extractor and that's that. But i don't have particularly respiratory sensitive animals to worry about. )

    • @courtneygolden
      @courtneygolden 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MakenzieHallie I didn't know it was the flux that was smelly! That helped, I searched it up and the fumes rise not fall. So I bet if I did it upstairs (w/ extractor) and kept the babies downstairs that would be best. I'll have to do more research or maybe just build myself a she shed. Thanks! Love what you do!

    • @MakenzieHallie
      @MakenzieHallie  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For sure. Most people just automatically assume its the lead solder we often work with, but we dont heat it to that level of evap, in stained glass. So the flux fumes are what we want to avoid. (They can cause respiratory illnesses.) But yes. Google google google, and google some more.) But my gut, says upstairs, away from the birdy babies and a good extractor/ventilation, youll be a ok! 🖤🖤🖤 And your so welcome! Thank you for your support!
