I am sure this technique will be great for using a patina. Getting a good black is often a strain. But how do you get and keep a good shine to a piece you want to leave with the silver of fresh solder
Thank you so much for doing this video!! I’ve been struggling with the same problems and you have given me hope to get my solder lines nice and black with no white residue from the polish🙌🙌 Do you think that older copper foil plays a part in the dull finish, even though the copper foil has never been opened from its original pkg.? Keep sending out great tips! Your videos are so well done! Cindy
Thank you very much I can't wait to try the white vinegar. On another note can you tell us what gloves you are wearing and where you purchased them? Thank you
after see your video i was going to use vinegar as you suggested. then I found this online: Do not clean stained glass with an abrasive material as it will remove or scratch the patina on the metal. Never use vinegar, ammonia (e.g., windex) or any acid-based cleanser, as these can destroy the came or solder that is holding the piece. What to do now??
Could the dulling be because of the chemical reaction to the petina? Inoticed you did not wash it off after applying it. I learned that the patina is a chemical reaction and after a few minutes after applying it is to be washed off because it is a chemical reaction not a paint.
The vinegar works very well with thr patina it also helps the remove and clean it from the glass. However if your not getting the desired effect then yes I would wash it more.
Thanks for sharing the white vinegar trick. I'm always down for options using household items instead of harsh chemicals. I noticed what appears to be a blue dream catcher with feathers hanging down in the background. Are you a Native American? If not then please google The Arts and Craft Act of 1990 and respect the Indigenous people and their livelihood. I would like to invite everyone else to google that as well. Your work looks awesome! Choctaw Native.
When cleaning up an older piece with ugly solder residue, after the initial wipe with white vinegar would it help to use 0000 steel wool, then more vinegar, before applying the new patina?
I don't use polish. Some people say you need to seal it but I've never experienced any problems or issues with this and I've been doing stained glass for several years.
I do this method initially cleaning with vinegar and then I finish off my piece by doing a final cleaning with whiting powder. I'll try and get an updated video out there. Thanks so much for watching!
I dont wash it off. Sometimes I dry it with a dry cloth and then spray it with vinegar and wipe clean. If its really dirty and you feel more comfortable you can give a rinse with some vinegar. After that I allow it to sit for a little while before polishing with more vinegar and microfiber cloth.
Most people have no idea how much work and care is involved making stained glass. You do very beautiful work.
Thank you

I have never tried this!
I will try this because I do struggle with the white mold from the polish
Thank you
Patricia
Thanks for sharing your method. I'll give it a try.😊
You use the word polishing but are you saying you only use vinegar?
Beautiful pieces. I'll give the white vinegar a try.
I didn't know that patina could be reapplied; game changer. Also like the idea of getting a chemical polish out of my arsenal!
Like your vid. But why did you have the blurry bit top and bottom needed a full screen . 🤔
Thank you for letting me know. Its currently the software I'm using. Hopefully I will get better at this!
Hello, this is a workshop that teaches stained glass in Japan, your work is beautiful
Thank you so much ❤

Great video!
Very informative. Thank you for sharing.
Your work is very beautiful
Great video. I'm very interested in how a stained glass piece can be mounted in a wood frame like you have done.
Thanks! I gonna try this!
That’s a beautiful piece, did you make the pattern? I’d love the pattern if available
Thank you for sharing.
Your video is very informative, Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Don’t do the view split when recording please
Thank you very much I can't wait to try the white vinegar. On another note can you tell us what gloves you are wearing and where you purchased them? Thank you
Thank you so much for watching. These are just nitrile exam gloves and can be purchased online. I get my gloves through Amazon.
Thank u for showing me ?l could not remove it.now l will not use polish spray again
Thank you I enjoyed your video. I have one question. If you leave your solder as is and it turns gray with age how do you bring the shine back?
Thank you for watching. I've never has a problem with it turning gray but if that happens maybe try polishing with vinegar.

Never had a problem or issue using vinegar.

I ask you if when we use lead-free pewter we should use patina. And if it has to be cleaned anyway?

Would I be able to make art that honors native Americans? I would never say that it was native made because I’m not native.
When cleaning up an older piece with ugly solder residue, after the initial wipe with white vinegar would it help to use 0000 steel wool, then more vinegar, before applying the new patina?
Yes it would be good to use 0000 grit steel wool
Can't see your work very well, top and bottom half is blurred out, why?
Does the white vinegar not have an odour?
it does but it goes away fast. smells like pickles when your cleaning with it lol
My water leaves to many marks. So you don’t use polish at all?
I don't use polish. Some people say you need to seal it but I've never experienced any problems or issues with this and I've been doing stained glass for several years.
Can you use white vinegar as a finishing step on Copper patina also??
I don't use copper patina very often but I think it should be ok. It would be best to test a small area and make sure you get the results you want.
Do you still use this method, or do you only use the whiting powder now?
I do this method initially cleaning with vinegar and then I finish off my piece by doing a final cleaning with whiting powder. I'll try and get an updated video out there. Thanks so much for watching!
hello, excuse me, what is whiting powder?@@reneesstainedglassworks3990
@@reneesstainedglassworks3990I like the whiting powder rather than polishing wax.
I prefer to use products made for stained glass.
A woman said the glass in her work altered because she did not wash it well enough.
I don't understand what she means by altered but it is important to thoroughly wash your stained glass pieces usually more than once.
when you patina the piece for the 1st time with the toothbrush do you wash the patina off
I dont wash it off. Sometimes I dry it with a dry cloth and then spray it with vinegar and wipe clean. If its really dirty and you feel more comfortable you can give a rinse with some vinegar. After that I allow it to sit for a little while before polishing with more vinegar and microfiber cloth.
thank you, what size should the blue bird pattern be please
@@sandrafenton1207 you can make any size you like. I made mine 12 1/2" wide by 9" tall
