During the 90's: Already in 1990 a lot of the 80's band were out on their asses and bands like Iron Maiden, Slayer och even Metallica (if you like the black album then... good for you, honey :)) was struggling. Judas Priest however released Painkiller, enough said. Conclusion: Judas Priest are #1! It's a motherfucking fact!
Enander I really like judas priest alot too. They are one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time. I really like how you know so much about them. I havent heard all of there albums yet and still need to see them live. Do they still sound great today in concert? Did you know that rob recently did a duet with in this moment song black wedding? On that track he sounds great still but i dont know how he is live with his old stuff ect. How would you rank all the judas priest cds? Just thought i can ask you some questions and advice since you seem to know just as much about them as this guy on the video.
Wow you sure twisted that narrative. If you think Sabbath struggled in the 1980s, apparently you never heard albums Heaven and Hell or Mob Rules. Deep Purple had a couple blockbuster albums called Perfect Strangers and House of Blue Light. To ice the cake, Ian Gillan of Purple sang on the 1983 Sabbath album Born Again, which was as heavy as anything that year not named Metallica or Slayer
The black album was alright it wasnt Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning but it was definitely better than St. Anger, that album was a big steaming pile of shit.
I've never watched an hour long video on youtube before, until now. Preist have been my favourite metal band from the first moment i heard them. Great video, dont think i've ever heard music reveiwed before quite like this.
I think it was fuckin hilarious that they just had a perfect "south west 'murican" stereotype on camera. It's all just glorious how much nobody gives a fuck. I love the U.S.A and Judas Priest.
@@Drew-vn8rx I got accused of being homophobic for saying fag, calling Antifa fags specifically, like I give a shit. And I've never been called that before. Ever.
I even cover the song on bass if you search for it - shameless self plug. Yes, a wonderfully moody ballad, love the vocal and guitar harmonies and even the bass fills, but Razor is right about "Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith," pure camp. OK, entertaining camp, but man, after the rest of that album, not a way to close out.
That song is really the only last song I’ll sit through on that album for the mid chorus but if it were me just wanting to have a good time, Id skip it for how slow and unimaginative it is for me
The live versions of 'Diamonds and Rust' and "Green Manalishi With the 3 Pronged Crown" and the entire 'Rocka Rolla', 'Hell Bent For Leather' albums are masterpieces..
I agree with most of what you say here but yes nostradamus, i was bit skeptical about it, but god damn it works! Judas priest took power metal and made it their own!
Halford's screams could turn meteors to dust under the sheer force. He may not have the honeyed wine sound of Freddie's beutiful voice but he definitely has more power behind his high notes.
Fantastic overview of one of my favorite bands. I remember buying SFV on vinyl when it first came out. To those too young to remember, there is nothing better than the smell of a new record. And the sound of the needle hitting the album that first time is unforgettable. Vengeance is just a perfect record and Priest has never failed to deliver.
Screaming for Vengance was probably the only record I actually wore out playing it constantly and had to buy a new copy. First Album I bought with my own money. You Got Another Thing Coming is still a masterpiece.
LeeboProductions decades back my dad got me so fucking eager about a summer keyboard job working with a Rob Halford in Walsall, sadly mine turned out to be with a quantity surveyor doing his typing :(
Not every song has to be break neck fast and ball crushing heavy to be good. Before the Dawn, Earning Star, When The Night Comes Down and the like are damn good tunes.
My favorite Priest songs per album: Rocka Rolla: Deep Freeze Sad Wings: Tyrant Sin After Sin: Raw Deal Stained Class: Saints in Hell Killing Machine: Hell Bent for Leather British Steel: Steeler Point of Entry: Heading Out to the Highway Screaming for Vengeance: Riding on the Wind Defenders of the Faith: Freewheel Burning Turbo: Reckless Ram It Down: Ram It Down Painkiller: Hell Patrol Jugulator: Cathedral Spires Demolition: Hell Is Home Angel of Retribution: Angel Nostradamus: Four Horsemen Redeemer: Dragonaut Firepower: Children of the Sun
its weird to see someone else have a completely different opinion than you regarding a band's best song per album. I disagree with all of these but i love the fact this reminds me that some people have a complete different taste! thank you for sharing (i hope this doesnt come off as douchey )
Honestly, I think it's the best episode of the metal mythos series. What a saga Sabbath had, Spinal Tap's fictional band history looks less ludicrous by comparison.
Absolutely brilliant! I love how I've got all the classics in your videos, but I tend to buy all the underrated/overlooked albums after the video ends. Mission accomplished!
Yeah i like that song too. So was it just that song or was there more songs off of that album they wanted to be added to topgun? I bet they would of gain so much more popularity for years with turbo album if it did happen. But also we probably wouldnt have gotten ram it down and painkiller and instead maybe got it more later down the road. Dont know for sure but im guessing if turbo sold much more they would of probably done some more stuff like that in future albums but at the same time i feel they would of still put some of their hard stuff in there. Since they still added some hard and heavy stuff in steel, venegance, and defenders. British Steel and Screaming for Venegance seem to have the most played songs on the radio i notice.
@@oliverqueen9886 Good point. If Reckless would have been on the Top Gun soundtrack and that helped gain the band more traction with the casual listener, It is entirely possible that management would have made them milk that commercial titty till the band undermined its own heritage. At least until Grunge swooped in and lopped their new Judas Jovi popularity off at the knees that is.
Have been binge watching all of your Metal Mythos and it is cool to see younger people have the same feelings I had when listening to this music long ago. I did not think modern ears could process the music the same way because everybody's imprinting experiences would be different than mine and therefore true appreciation would be impossible - however your ideas of what constitutes a good or a bad album line up about 70% with mine, so all and all, not a bad intergenerational knowledge transfer! So the next time some young douche makes fun of me at work for listening to this, I will know that they have simply not opened their ears and minds enough! Keep up the good work, you are a talented documentarian and comedian!
Ripper Owens - the greatest metal singer without a legendary band of his own. Loved him during his Iced Earth era. I’m lucky enough to own the live JP DVD with ripper on vocals - excellent!
Ive only been able to see Judas Priest live once in São Paulo, Brasil but its still my favorite live metal show ive ever seen and cemented Judas Priest as my favorite Metal band!
A few years back, before the pandemic a friend and I drove 12 hours interstate for a festival headlined by Judas Priest, Ozzy and Slayer the latter two on their farewell tour. Well Ozzy got sick and cancelled entire continents tours but the thing I was shook by was trying to imagine Priest followed by Slayer followed by Ozzy. There are few frontmen who have aged worse then Ozzy and few who have aged as well as Halford- he was up there in a leather trenchcoat hitting the old high notes, slaying with the new material from Firepower. Just killing it.
Now this is an awesomely entertaining way to explore an artist's catalog. Very sharp and informally spot on. Nice to get a view from someone who is obviously a fan and has done his homework. Love to get your take on QUEENSRYCHE'S catalog.
On the other hand the Rageoholic is wrong introducing only his personal preference (as opposed to an educated opinion) when it comes to his disdain of Rocka Rolla which truly is an underrated album. The Rageoholic is just a burger guy when it comes to musical taste, one can see it in other videos too, so not the first time, won't be the last.
So what? Stating the obvious doesn't give anything to a discussion. Or is he some sort of a sepatate entity, a god or something? Nobody tells him what to do, or even attempts that, but as in any media people can give a posthumous evaluation on his own evaluations because erroneous or lacking evaluations can reveal the abilities of the critic that also deserve to be known.
I've long owned a Judas Priest best of double CD, but no actual albums. I'm checking out a lot of the classic metal bands (I've generally listened to more 'mid tier' ones in terms of popularity) and these videos are a legit treasure trove. Thanks for making them. The way you fire off salvos of wordplay, hilarious comparisons and expletives is also really entertaining and fitting to the subject matter. xD
I disagree with what you say about early Priest, I love that shit. I do find it refreshing to hear your view about Nostradamus. I have always said, if it was an album without the Judas Priest name on it, people would have liked it a hell of a lot more. Not my favorite by far, but much better than p people say it is.
I like how they played the Epic 70s stuff, but Fist is right. The whole genre, *the style* wasn't really them. Leather Daddy is a much better look on Halford than Charlie's Angels haired LARPie twink in crushed velvet w/e pants :)
Everyone was aping Led Zepelin/Deep Purple/Black Sabbath in the early-to-mid 70s. Rocka Rolla, is just one of examples. Another is Rush's first album, which is basically a glorified LZ worship. Both bands understood their error and developed something unique and awesome.
Great take, recognizing Run of the Mill shows your brains. My disappointment when Turbo Lover was released, immeasurable. Now, that song is FANTASTIC live. Has doubled the fan base itself. 1990 Painkiller Nirvana, period. THANK goodness for Tim Ripper Owen's contribution, the franchise owes him a debt of gratitude. Nostradamus ages really well. Hmmmmmm, farewell tour, hah?
Couldn't agree more re: Point of Entry - Desert Plains was the tune that made me dust off that slab and give it a few more listens. Great record! One other comment - Stained Class is dark, yes... but Beyond the Realms of Death is one of my favorite Priest tunes. Quick, stupid trivia: Sebastian Bach used to warm up for shows by singing that song. Really glad to have found your channel, man. Great Stuff!
I like the fact that you're sticking to the theme of this year's E3 my dude. I just hope we eventually get the Metal Mythos: Alice Cooper. God knows I dream about it.
Sin After Sin is the Priest album my dad had in his record collection when I found it as a kids and started digging into 70s and very early 80s metal/hard rock. Along with Rock You To Hell, Paranoid, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Led Zep IV, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Steppenwolf The Second, Machine Head, and Burn, this was part of my 'summer of metal' that ended the notion of haircuts while instilling the notion of daily headbanging for me. Never looked back. While I've grown to love thrash, death, and speed metal for the most part, I still listen to these old Titans of metal every day as well. Nothing will ever dislodge the place they have in my Metal Heart. Sin After Sin is a fanfuckingtastic album, front to back, with no real low points for my \m/. Whatever anyone else thinks of Last Rose or Here Come The Tears, I dig the tunes and enjoy them when I'm in a mood for more mellow rocking. I could care less if anyone else dislikes them; enjoy whatever cancers your testiculars, your taste doesn't impact mine anymore than mine does yours. I'll agree, however, that Dissident Aggressor is a fucking gnarly as all shit masterpiece, but easily hides among all the other gnarly as all shit masterpieces on the album. If you haven't already, put this album on to play through end to end, grab a drink, get loose, and let the motherfucking \m/ do exactly what it was designed to do to your soundholes and your soul.
@@jamiehess4211 But his drumming on the album gives such an awesome feel, sounds nothing like any other priest album. He has more of a galloping sound then just straight notes.
5:35 nope he does not. His highest note in a studio/live album (which is always studio mixed) was done in 2001 in live insurrection which was a Bb5 in the song sad wings. or in the background of blood red skies which was an C#6.
Turbo is SO UNDERRATED,.That's a BADAZZ LP,..PERIOD,.I mean it's filled with killer songs and KEYBOARDS,.If Judas had never done THAT lp then music wouldn;t BE THE SAME,..it just wouldn't,.It was a Juggernaut
I got to see Tim "The Ripper" a couple of years ago with Craig Goldy, Vinnie Appice and Elliot Rubinson(Ex CEO of Dean Guitars RIP) on bass. He was incredible. One of the best shows ever.
Joe Smith Are any of the extra stuff added to them make it more worth buying for the extra bonus tracks added or a 2nd or 3rd cd? Or a dvd? I notice that turbo 30th for example comes with 2 additional cds of them live and the British steel comes with a dvd of them live i recall when looking at them in the store and i think they have some extra bonus tracks as well. What is wrong with the 30th anniversary albums? Im curious in buying some of their albums but dont know if its worth it or not buying the remasters or 30th versus the original versions. You seem like you know about the difference between them.

Great review but why no love for Ian Hill? You mention Rob, KK, Tipton, but no Ian love. Great bass player and rock solid member of the band and many classic Priest tracks wouldn't be the same without him.

Conclusion: Judas Priest are #1! It's a motherfucking fact!
Enander
I really like judas priest alot too.
IDK that I'd say the Dio era Sabbath albums or Perfect Strangers by Deep Purple struggled, but point taken....
@TheGreaterGood80 Deep Purple did not die in the 70s. You should listen to Perfect Strangers album.
"plus tim aint gay" LOL .. kay
which has NOTHING to do with how great Priest is (was).
Well they did have to show Ripper's ass, which at least his nickname wasn't Ripped.
I think it was fuckin hilarious that they just had a perfect "south west 'murican" stereotype on camera. It's all just glorious how much nobody gives a fuck. I love the U.S.A and Judas Priest.
@@joneubanks9686 that makes no sense

Firepower is even better than redeemer of souls
Way better IMO
Dade Lee Murphy Clearly better
IT IS.
Agreed, that being said, if Redeemer was produced like Firepower, it would have been at least an equal.
Firepower is better than Angel Of Retribution too
:smdh: "When The Night Comes Down" is a great song.
Excellent video and update/remastering.
i agree
I even cover the song on bass if you search for it - shameless self plug. Yes, a wonderfully moody ballad, love the vocal and guitar harmonies and even the bass fills, but Razor is right about "Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith," pure camp. OK, entertaining camp, but man, after the rest of that album, not a way to close out.
Yeah "Night Comes Down" is awesome
Really Heavy Duty is the only song I feel like is filler on that album. The track Defenders of the Faith is just an outro.
That song is really the only last song I’ll sit through on that album for the mid chorus but if it were me just wanting to have a good time, Id skip it for how slow and unimaginative it is for me
Oh Jesus. I've watched this so many times i can repeat the intro verbatim, tone as well.
Same
The live versions of 'Diamonds and Rust' and "Green Manalishi With the 3 Pronged Crown" and the entire 'Rocka Rolla', 'Hell Bent For Leather' albums are masterpieces..
Two-pronged crown. Lol.
*YES.*
So many good songs. I can't stop listening to Jugulator and Stained Class
“Colossal cacophony of metalipherous might”. Poetry, pure poetry.
Love the extra footage especially of Ripper Owens!
Screaming for Vengance was probably the only record I actually wore out playing it constantly and had to buy a new copy. First Album I bought with my own money. You Got Another Thing Coming is still a masterpiece.
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!! I am an avid lover of "the priest". Then and more now!!
Rob Halford hails from my home town of Walsall, that accent is a perfect Walsall accent, strange hearing it video haha
LeeboProductions decades back my dad got me so fucking eager about a summer keyboard job working with a Rob Halford in Walsall, sadly mine turned out to be with a quantity surveyor doing his typing :(
Yam Yam!!
Karl Meyer I yam ar
Not every song has to be break neck fast and ball crushing heavy to be good. Before the Dawn, Earning Star, When The Night Comes Down and the like are damn good tunes.
Priest > Maiden
Judas Priest Number 1
Yes sir 🤘
I agree ...
Maiden = helped me during my hard early teen years
Priest = helped me during my hard early adult years...
Both brought me into the world of metal! \m/
Motörhead>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
My favorite Priest songs per album:
Rocka Rolla: Deep Freeze
Sad Wings: Tyrant
Sin After Sin: Raw Deal
Stained Class: Saints in Hell
Killing Machine: Hell Bent for Leather
British Steel: Steeler
Point of Entry: Heading Out to the Highway
Screaming for Vengeance: Riding on the Wind
Defenders of the Faith: Freewheel Burning
Turbo: Reckless
Ram It Down: Ram It Down
Painkiller: Hell Patrol
Jugulator: Cathedral Spires
Demolition: Hell Is Home
Angel of Retribution: Angel
Nostradamus: Four Horsemen
Redeemer: Dragonaut
Firepower: Children of the Sun
its weird to see someone else have a completely different opinion than you regarding a band's best song per album. I disagree with all of these but i love the fact this reminds me that some people have a complete different taste! thank you for sharing (i hope this doesnt come off as douchey )
Still waiting for the Black Sabbath episode
Brett McGowan well I hope your bleached asshole is ready!! Because it’s almost here!
Assuming you've seen it by now... actually first Mythos I watched. Razorfist rules
Reckless was actually going to be the top gun song
reckless is awesome
Thought I was the only person who legitimately likes Jugulator
I love Jugulator too, plus it created another metal god!
You're one of a few.
I love Jugulator, it has some of the heaviest songs on it.
I saw Priest on that tour. Slayer were in town and played on the previous night. I couldn't go to both unfortunately. Anyway, Priest ruled.
Now this is an awesomely entertaining way to explore an artist's catalog. Very sharp and informally spot on. Nice to get a view from someone who is obviously a fan and has done his homework. Love to get your take on QUEENSRYCHE'S catalog.
well...Halford was not wrong in the intro.
Agreed haha. My favorite metal band ever.
True.
I would be remiss to mention that...it IS HIS show.
I always thought that the sentinel was an amazing song but when I heard it live with Tim on metal meltdown It became my all time favorite priest song
RIP Chris Tsangarides
For fuck sake's razor I was just about to go to sleep and you do this, well who needs sleep anyway
Same. I was literally about to call it night when I saw this. One hour later and I still need to get to bed. Great vid.
All we need is A gallon of coffee for later today. Good thing i'm off today.
Sleep is, indeed, for the weak my boy.
Sleep is overrated anyway
However, sleep is overrated, but, Sleep is a great band.
"and this is why he's called Ripper" will never fail to make me laugh
Holy shit Razor! I was just starting to listen to Priest when you posted this!
Must be a sign...
I don’t know how he did, but I’m thankful Halford made it out of the ‘80’s and is still kicking today.
At least I didn't release it in VR.

Yep, it's very underrated.
Do you plan to update this after their new album Firepower drops in a month?
Oh my goodness Firepower was SIX years ago?!?
Simon Phillips on Sin after sin killed on that album, brought so much to their sound
His only Priest record.....
@@jamiehess4211 But his drumming on the album gives such an awesome feel, sounds nothing like any other priest album. He has more of a galloping sound then just straight notes.
@@kushking420 Yes it does. Shame they didn't use him more.
5:35 nope he does not. His highest note in a studio/live album (which is always studio mixed) was done in 2001 in live insurrection which was a Bb5 in the song sad wings. or in the background of blood red skies which was an C#6.
Just for the record, I love the album Turbo!
I can honestly listen to your retrospectives all day Razor
Is there a van halen mythos coming up in the future?
Yes ...l.
Hey Razorfist, I've have been watching your content since highschool and you make some of the best stuff on youtube. Thanks for all the good times.
You call this a Judas Priest remaster? Where are the bonus tracks and botched production?
Joe Smith
Are any of the extra stuff added to them make it more worth buying for the extra bonus tracks added or a 2nd or 3rd cd?
@@oliverqueen9886 all I know is if you look at the back and it says 2006 on it it's probably not a good plan to get it. Then again I'm a blind man so my hearing is more in tune than a lot of people's.
