Thank you for this video. It’s so nice to listen to a person who is living their authentic life and taking us along. I’m sorry you are going through all this but you need to know that your videos are helping people more than you know. I’m looking forward to your videos on navigating the assisted living system. I’m 60 and my Dad is a very active 85 year old but you never know what life will throw you and knowledge is power. ❤

I'm so glad you, John, and Keith are remaining friends and keeping in touch. I second the person who suggested house sitting and pet sitting, especially for snowbirds. I did that in grad school. You'll have other kinds of adventures.

Went thru years of the same thing for 10 plus years, my mom had dementia. It does not end even when they are in care. The key is to be present and aware. Staff is aware of who is being watched after. It is OK to cry. I cried for 10 years over so many situations that I would not wish on any care giver. So happy you are able to communicate with your mom. I know how much she treasures that time together. Sending you hugs❤️

Hang in there Tracy! You have so many irons in the fire that you are bound to become overwhelmed at times. I went through a very difficult 11 years caring for my husband 24/7 by myself and I would find myself in tears in the middle of the grocery store….they would just come up out of nowhere. It was obviously a physical and emotional release that had to break through. We think we are so strong but at some point our bodies let us know we only think we are superwoman because in reality we most definitely are not and we need to listen to and heed warnings from our body. I have been following you since you first headed out on my 11/7 birthday and I will never forget you wishing me a Merry Christmas early on when I was going through a difficult time. You will never know how much that meant to me so I thank you again and I am reminding you that you are an amazing woman ❤️

@southerncaladygolfer8651 Sorry about the hard time you had with the 24/7 caregiving, it’s not easy having so much responsibility to shoulder alone. I am 60 and I feel like I have too much responsibility in terms of helping out family members that have difficulty coping. Sometimes I daydream about how much easier it would be if I just disappeared and took care of only myself. I know I will never do that but you get to be a certain age and it starts to feel very daunting to maintain the caregiver role. I hope you and Tracy are not too deep in the dilemma I face. Best wishes and best of luck to both of you!

I’m all set! In 10 years, when I turn 62, I’ll receive my tax-free superannuation, which works out to $22,000 AUD a month. I’ll be living on an island in Asia, enjoying my last days like a king. Good luck to all you other Gen X’ers with your retirement plans. And to Gen Y and Gen Z, don’t forget to buy food.

Thank you for sharing. Life has a way of bringing us to our knees. Betrayal, greed, heartbreak. I moved from Ramsey County, MN to Liberty County, FL a year ago. My 22 year marriage ended. The pain of moving thru all the changes is vast. Moving thru each day with grace. I just bought an old GMC Savanna van and will be making my trek to MN soon....just to visit for about a month. We have so many chapters in our lives. Being kind to ourselves can be the most challenging. Sending lots of love & peace.

For me, the initial interest came with RVing in your van, wondering if you'd change to another mode as time went on! With so many wanting to get out and see the country, yet not realizing possible pitfalls, you now have a realization of what's out there, both good and bad. Nonetheless, I'll hope one day you might get back on the road, and add to all the good information you've shared already! Stay safe, and enjoy every day possible!

Tracy, I so feel what you're going through right now. I won't get into my story but I will tell you that I was very glad you didn't say you were getting rid of Charlene. My new saying after a few years of hell that I went through is: Don't make any final decisions about ANYTHING while you're going through EVERYTHING. I made a decision to sell my home and I traded my car for a van and I got to a point just like you and traded the van for another car. Then my whole life turned around to a different direction again 6 months later and I no longer had my van and it's been one of my worst regrets. I thought I was so done with it all and like you said, life changes. So if you can find somewhere or someone's house to park Charlene at until you've had plenty of time to decide if you're really done. That's what I would do if I could do it all over again. Now I don't have the money to get another van and I'm in an apartment building was hundreds of other people because it was the only thing I could afford. Sitting with a view of a bunch of buildings listening to traffic and dreaming of being able to get back on the road. I don't know if you ever go back and watch your videos when you first started, But you were so excited for the future And now you can't even figure out what your future is. So please don't make any decisions that you can't take back or it'll be a lot of work and more stress to try to undo a decision made when you are in a time of confusion. I'm 62 almost 63 now and I love watching you. Right now you seem like you're almost in a time of mourning. And you know what they say when you're in a time of morning never make any big decisions for at least a year. I think that your mourning the loss of the relationship with your sister and the relationship between your sister and your mom. Hang in there, You're a beautiful strong woman so wait and see what changes in life come in the next 6 months. Feeling lost in your own life sucks but things change as you know very well. Best of wishes to you for a calm to come. ❤

There are a lot of things you are dealing with right now Tracey, just give yourself some grace and breathe. It is super challenging for everyone right now with the economy causing high prices on everything from food to housing, unemployment going up and many of us are at the stage in life where we are trying to figure out where our passion for the future and our meaning in life is supposed to be found. I am the same age as you are and I can tell you, I have the full time career in a field I have always loved, I live in a modest house with all the expenses that come with that, and have lost both parents and my husband over the last decade, and emotionally/mentally I am in the same place as you are right now. I don't have any answer yet but whatever you do right now, don't make any permanent changes to address temporarily problems. I do know this though, everything will sort itself out. I'm sending good vibes your way mama! Thanks for sharing with all your virtual friends out here, we appreciate you and can totally relate. 🙂

Tracy= get the waiver commitment in writing. Not just a phone call. Keep a file and document every call, name time and details. But this situation please get every commitment in writing. You don’t want to have a problem on the back side having to say but so and so said xyz…you need that in writing. And in your hard copy and digital file now. We were told that you generally had to be full-pay for 2 years before they will accept you on elderly waiver. They will tell you they accept waivers and that have them available but when the time comes for transition to waiver if it hasn't been 2 years of full pay they suddenly have none available. Once we moved my dad to the cities after my mom passed finding a place that took his elderly waiver was near impossible because all his years of private pay had been at an assisted living in another county (he had dementia for 6 years and 5 years of private pay for memory care for both parents wiped out their retirement savings). Joy is lucky to have found a place with good care that will take waivers, in our experience they are rare in the cities (Twin Cities).

I am sending you love and hugs! It’s tough to go through tough things. And it’s even a bigger deal to share out your vulnerabilities. You’re going through and have been going through a lot of rough stuff along with your mother also going through that same rough stuff. And you have been, hanging on and getting through it. I’ve been going through something recently as well where it just feels like I’m going in circles like I’m on this merry-go-round that I just can’t get off of… And the circular spiraling sort of situation where your sent around to so many different people and you get tidbits here and there and I you have had the same thoughts like no one should have to go through all of this. I’m not the first one going through this. Why is it that I’m being treated as though I’m the first one who’s ever asked these questions or ever had to learn about this stuff. So I agree with you when you have gotten through this with your mom and you have 😊had time to process if you could pull together a video or something and put it out there for people to give them some step-by-step guidance that would be amazing. Of course it’s different from state to state. it’s a lot of stuff for people to try to learn so any helpful hints to get people started at has always proven to be a good thing. Again, sending you lots of love and hugs, we are resilient! And we can’t possibly know it is ahead of us so I’m looking forward to what happens in your future and I’m looking forward to being able to gain a bit more peace in your life. And I think it’s wonderful that you indicated that you have a lot of support around you if you choose to tap into that I do as well but sometimes when we’re going through these significant things, no one can help us with that stuff and a lot of it is just internal work that we’re doing for ourselves. Hang in there, my friend you’ve got this And cry when you have to cry, I was just talking with a friend a few hours ago about the very thing of how there’s always seemingly that final straw that one more thing that’s put on top of you that just starts to make you feel like you were breaking just know that you aren’t broken and you aren’t breaking and you’re going to be fine. Even when all the uncertainty is there, you are correct it will all work out.cu

Hello Tracy, rode up in your area with the old farts from St Paul yesterday, beautiful day. Thought we might see you out riding on your e-bike. The houses around White Bear and Bald Eagle lake are fabulous, really really nice area.
Putting your mother in assisted living is heart wrenching, been there. I hope it all works out and yes full time van life can be difficult but a lot of fun for short trips. Take care and good luck!

All the best to you and Joy and hoping you are successful getting her settled into a great place. Also hoping you find a small place to hang your hat this winter. 👌

I’m so over being around people and I’m 59 as of March. I’m tired of the drama and the need of everyone needing to feel special. I’ve worked office for about 30 years (backstabbing and ass kissing is required for cubicle prison) and rest of time in grocery retail for 17 1/2 years. I love being off, called off today because I didn’t want to deal with heat and people in general. Now listening to you after not seeing you for a while. Good luck to Joy. My mom just turned 79 last month. You must have been a midlife baby of your moms.

I’m sorry that you feel like you are a caregiver and not a daughter. My grown son I’ll always have to care for. It’s tough. It will always be this way until one of us dies. Chin up Tracy. Wish I could be your friend and help you. You are an amazing daughter. I don’t know the back story on your sister but I can figure it out. Family 😢

Hi Tracy, we're exactly the same age (born 1965)! My mom passed away already, and we're 3 sisters. I was also the one who looked after her and supported her. She had Alzheimer towards the end.😞 I know it can be very difficult and taxing and who else are you supposed to be short with, if that's the person that's in your life. I also feel bad about a lot of things now, but on the other hand I know I was always there for her and supported her to the end. The same with you, except your mom knows it and she knows it's not her that you're mad at and I'm sure she's appreciative as heck. I just gave up on my sister's. I tried to get them to at least visit her and they wouldn't. Just release that emotional side of it all. Just release her from your life. I know the litigation (the life part) will go on, but release her as far as your heart and feelings go and you'll feel so much better. I hated them and what they did to my mom, but that just caused bitterness in my life and in my heart and its just not worth it. We've got less life left than what we've already lived, so make that life happy. I must say anti-depressents are also helping in my case. Sending good thoughts to you and your mom all the way from South Africa. 🇿🇦

I sympathize Tracey what you are going through. Joy is a sweetheart like my mom was until her unexpectedly passed on March 18, 2024 . My mom left & my brother with no bills . She said for many years before God called her home 🏡 we wouldn't have any bills . We inherited her home in Louisiana. I live in Texas and my brother lives in Alabama. I have the yard mowed every 2 weeks. May God you bless 🙌🏽 you for what you are doing for your mom . At times I felt like I was having a nervous breakdown 🙃. Currently doing psychotherapy session via video 📹 weekly. Your sister & husband will reap what they sow .

IF there is a hell, your sister and brother in law have seats reserved! It's hard to believe that someone could do anything to hurt Joy, especially if she's your own mother! I'm pissed! You should get a P.O. Box and give all of us the address so we could write letters to your sister and tell her what we think of her! I'm sure that wouldn't come across to well in court but I sure would love to give her a piece of my mind! Joy is to be cherished for the wonderful human that she is! Please take care of you during all of this. I can't imagine the stress you're going through. I'm sending hugs to you and your mom!

Hhhmmm if I was looking for a place to Winter in Minnesota I would look for a room to rent, which is way cheaper than an apartment. Or I would look into income based housing, also called low income housing but it would only be temporary for the Winter. Do they have a mobile home park model where you could rent temporarily? Put a in search of (ISO) ad out what your looking for or post on public bulletin boards ( laundryomat, chuch boards, gas stations, etc...) and try to get in before Winter. If I think of anything else Ill let you know. Hope it helps.🙏
