You doubled your money and gave your friend the opportunity to own his grail watch. Winners all round. A very generous thing to do on your behalf, but friendship over greed is always a winner.
@@jackchueh1231 I mean I feel you but when the retail price has doubled (let alone aftermarket prices) I think selling it for retail is a great deal for everyone. No greed involved and when my friends land hype stuff for me they sell it to me for retail and I make sure I give them some extra out of appreciation. Same type of thing here
"Watches are made to be worn" - the most mature thing watch collector could say. Couldn't agree more. Selling it to a close friend knowing that he adores that timepiece for near current retail price? priceless. You are a true good friend, and 100% gentleman for not being greedy, love it. We need more people like you around.
High character far outweighs any monetary gains you may have had from selling this watch for maximum profit. What a wonderful thing to do for your friend and fellow watch enthusiast. Really appreciate this content, cheers to you continuing to perfect and consolidate your collection.
Hats off! That's a rather gentleman and generous thing to do. Watches are made to be worn - 100%, that's also part of the reason I trimmed my collection down to five pieces.
Loved this out going video mate. Not many people talk about this watches... they just talk about watches in the honeymoon phase. Love your videos take care from Yorkshire 🇬🇧
The AP's tapisserie dials are so elegant and classy. The skeleton though is another level I am sure to look at. What an incredible open movement and workmanship. Commendable of you to pass this on to your friend so he could enjoy it and for it to be worn. Look forward to your updated West collection.
This video clip completely makes my day. Not only very nice details of photography and AP info, I do admire how you value your watches and more importantly friendship. Thank you (I’m from Thailand)
Wonderful story both the journey and the outcome. So many lessons to be gained here. One might be sad for your son, but your collection is both broad and deep with plenty of other gems to choose from. True passion is to understand ones own motivations for collecting. Can’t wait to see where you go from here refining the collection! Thanks for allowing us to join you on this journey.
Refreshing to hear the outgoing movements of the collection. It's easy to imagine your friend is very happy and it brings joy to our hearts to hear that. To make the comparison with cars, AP is like McLaren whereas Rolex is more like Mercedes. McLaren make great sports cars and when you have the ultimate model, the others can't bring the same special feeling. Mercedes on the other hand has sports cars as well as more practical models. That makes the different models good or special in their own respective way. You'll drive/wear whatever model from that brand is best suited for the occasion.
Awesome! Fully agree watches need to be worn, just like cars need to be driven to enjoy not kept in the garage or safe (for watches). Selling the AP at retail to a good friend to fulfilled his dream is great. Well done!!
Good man. It is a great gesture to pass it down to your friend at close to retail. You're friend is a very lucky person. Wear it in good health watch friend!
Such a lovely gesture. Your sentiments about the double balance skeleton are mine for the 15202 - which I feel truly blessed to have in my collection. One of the few I would never let go of
Good move on your part you've not only doubled you money but made a close friend very happy and as you say you've got the skeleton which is all the AP you need well done and congratulations to your friend 👏
“Contentment is an inexhaustible treasure”. What a nice deed you have done! Doubling your investment while making your friend happy over something you do not need or cherish anymore!
Awesome that you gave it to your friend for nigh on retail price. What a great thing to do to allow someone to get their hands on their holy grail without having to pay double over retail. You sir, truly are a great friend and great collector too.
Sir you are a gentleman, being a watch enthusiast as well, this was a very generous gesture towards your friend. I hope he wears it good health. No doubt one of my grail pieces. Keep up the amazing work!!!!!
Great video! I really enjoy learning about the approach to collecting from diverse perspectives and would greatly appreciate seeing outgoing videos. Also so cool to see you transfer to someone you know will enjoy it when no one could blame you for maximizing profit. I agree that one AP is enough!
My eyes were wide open when I saw the title of this video in my notifications.....but! I am of the same opinion as yourself, the skeleton is more than sufficient (so nice to see it again here!). For me, it would be an easy choice between the two. I think if I had them both, only the skeleton would get worn which would be a shame. I also admire what you did for you friend. Doubling your money after enjoying the watch is a solid result but then making a friends dream come true is worth so much more than the extra pennies you could of got. And yes, watches should be worn and enjoyed. Such a shame that so many people don't want to wear them out of fear of scratching, losing or whatever. Definitely post the outgoings to the collection too, great idea!
Your friend paid retail except… there is no retail anymore! AP discontinued the Jumbo this year. Your friend got an awesome deal! I applaud you for helping your friend. It reflects greatly on you and your kindness and generosity.
Theres too many people who dont appreciate what these watches are and just take them as an investment. The price increase is from these people, and its nice to see a humble watch enthusiast once for a while
MashaAllah. I expected nothing less from you. When I read the title, I said to myself he sold it to a relative for retail price (today). He must be a special (and lucky) friend. Best wishes for both of you.
The Code 11.59 really puts the Royal Oak into perspective. The Royal Oak really looks like a 70s watch now. The skeletonised version gives it a kind of retro futuristic look and kind of makes it more durably timeless not to mention fascinating to look at.
The AP skeleton is my favourite out of your collection, and too me that’s the holy grail watch and having 3 or more submariners is too much duplication as well. Looking forward too the next purchase! Really enjoy your channel take care ! 😊
Good on you for helping your friend obtain his grail watch at such a great price! Watches are meant to be worn and I’m slowly but surely learning that. Thanks for the video sir!
Fair play , win - win for both , your close friend got the best deal of his life , respect..... agreed that AP Skelton is absolutely stunning and serious heavy hitter , only AP you need.
You hit it on the head...you don't need multiples of the same watch with different dials or even different watches with basically the same dial. The true measure of collecting maturity is when one accepts a willingness to condense rather than expand...
Excellent Video Mate !! loved it, been following ur videos since ages, u have def, matured in yr " refining " . I totally agree with you view that watch collecting is a journey, there are no mistakes. The SD43 Rolex made me fall out of love with the Omega PO but i am giving it one more try before refining it. Pls keep these videos coming, its a huge learning curve for all of us, only new watch videos is something every one is doing.
Please keep posting the outgoing videos. It’s interesting to hear your thought process when deciding to part with a watch. It’s a nice watch, but if you’re not wearing it, you may as well sell it to your friend. I wonder which will go next?
Awesome man! Thats what its all about! Sharing the love of watches. Ofc ppl can flip watches etc, but in this case, all collectors come to a point where one need to refine the collection, not only add. It was really interesting to hear your thoughts, looking forward to more, and really would love to see your full collection in one video (if that is even possible?) :)
Loved hearing about rational real decisions of how to define a collection. Sometimes we have to kill our darlings (I believe this is attributed to Hemingway with regards to writing) to get to where you want to go
True gentleman, well done sir. I am sure your friend will truly enjoy it and use it as it should be. However I would have kept it, unless I was going to replace it with a 70's version, I still think the 15202 is iconic watch and worth having in your collection. But that's only my opinion 🤷
Very generous. To state the obvious though you've taken a risk with the friendship - you've basically handed him £30k which unless he's as rich as you are will be a huge temptation if not now - maybe in a few years.
Very great story selling it to a close friend. Imo the AP is the perfect watch in terms of business/professional environment BUT you also have the Nautilus so it's a very understandable decision.😊
Thanks for another great video, as a fan and follower of your channel, I also are considering reducing the size of my watch collection, just sat in the Bank, and only wearing a few. You mentioned better things to put the money in, and I would be interested in knowing your thoughts. !

I knew it'd be because no other Royal Oak would compare to the openwork ;) at least it's gone to someone that really loves it and you made a nice profit!
Really nice gesture 👏 You have bought quite some amazing watches the past years, so its a really where you can have too many watches … and hence they fall out of favour like the AP 😉
You doubled your money and gave your friend the opportunity to own his grail watch. Winners all round. A very generous thing to do on your behalf, but friendship over greed is always a winner.
Perfectly said!
A real homey would have sold it at his cost.

I think you have gotten more value from the sale to your friend instead of selling it to a grey dealer! A true British gentleman!
He’s not British
Yep a grey dealer would of offered shit money as per,if you can sell to a friend that’s the perfect scenario 🤙

Nice one! The friendship you have with him is much more special than the grey market price for a watch, especially when you can afford the gesture.

Cool thing that you sold the watch to your friend. Its a win win situation.
