    The way that dog left a trail of blood like she crawled to John before she died was one of the most heartbreaking things I'd ever seen in a movie. I almost didn't watch the rest, but I'm glad I did because WOW! Never have I seen more justified brutality on screen or irl. I was surprised by how much this little action movie manipulated my emotions.

      eric Cassidy There's no reason for them to have dragged the dog to him. And even if they did, they could have just picked the dog up, since the dog didn't weigh much. I thinks it's more logical to assume the dog dragged itself with the last of its strength to John Wick and then died of its wounds.

      John: Hey, Frank.
      Cop: *looks around*.......still got the biggest dick in the world?
      John: yep.

    • @suadabeslagic2871
      @suadabeslagic2871 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I'm not Russian but I am an Eastern European who often gets similarly stereotyped. Basically, whenever a Western artist is in need of a villainous character with at least somewhat exotic background but isn't willing to risk being called out on racism or another prejudice, casting an Eastern European in the role is pretty much their safest bet.
      One thing is, we don't really have the film industry to make big budget movies, or even to hire large numbers of foreigners. So we don't really have the opportunity to do the same, even if we wanted to.

It's got literally all the visual, directorial, and tonal elements that I have imagined to be in the ideal action movie and is just a dream come true. Watch the raid, jeremy! This movie inspired john wick's action set pieces, in terms of how it's shot. The raid, aswell as its sequel, raised the bar of modern cinematic action to a whole fucking next gen level, and reimagined the best possible way to shoot action that hopefully more hollywood films will adopt in the future. Please give the raid a chance if u hv the time. Thanks! (:

      The Raid 2 one of the most overrated movies of all time. Good movie but saying It's better than anything Hollywood put on screen is BS. 300 and many other action movies deserve more praise than Raid 2. Not to mention the overly long it's 2 hours and 30 minutes and some of the fights overstays it's welcome. The Raid 1 was even worse. Bad story repetitive fight scenes.

    • @uzumakiangelus
      @uzumakiangelus 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bob Cheng The first Raid is a video game where the hero goes thru each level before the boss fight. The plot served only to showcase the action. If you went into the Raid expecting a story, of course you'd be disappointed. You'd also be kinda silly.
      It's the Raid, not the Godfather.

      @jayhartRIC 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Peter Mountains This comment shows that you don't understand the Tomatometer (or the Netflix star system, for that matter). They aren't even close to being the same. First off, the netflix star system is personalized to the profile and it is based off your past movie choices. Meaning the same movie will get different ratings for different people. The tomatometer is a percentage of people that liked the movie. If a movie got three stars from every reviewer, it would have a 100% tomatometer because every review would be considered a "like."

    *The Raid*. Jeremy, you definitely need to see that. There's a reason the Russo Brothers said they "wanted action scenes similar to The Raid in Captain America 2." They even copied a move or two in the film. Remember in Arrow season 1 when Oliver rescues Walter? That hallway fight scene, *straight from The Raid!* Only toned down for TV. Jeremy. My favorite thing in the movie John Wick is...
    they actually reloaded their guns at appropriate times.

    NO, John 'fucking' Wick reloads his guns!

    • @TerrySteiner
      @TerrySteiner 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      ^this...during the night club scene there was this awesome moment when he pulled the trigger and "click" the gun is actually empty. He quickly hit the guy, re-loads, pulls the slide and pops the guy in the head. The fact that he actually ran out of ammo gave this movie bonus points.
      Unlimited ammo trope: no
      The villain has the good guy ties up and could finish everything by shooting him but instead leaves so his inept henchmen can kill him with via an easily escapable method (plastic bag over the head) troupe: check [aka James Bond death trap troupe]

    worth buying on blu ray? didn't expect that at all (thought you would give it the drunk raiting) can't wait to see it
    though, the raid 2 is still the best action movie of 2014, these fight scenes were just insane especially the way they were filmed, often in very very long shots that required absolute perfection from the actors and cameramen. (remember the zero gravity fight in inception? yeah raid 2 tops that)
    you should have watched it back in march even before cap 2 came out because you liked the fight choreography in that one but they don't hold a candle to the stuff they pull in both raids

      I fucking loved the original Raid, it's one of my favorite movies. But I didn't like the Raid 2 at all, there was hardly any action and when there was action it frequently cut away from it. Like the nightclub and the prison bathroom scene, they just suddenly get swarmed and it cut's away from the fight. It's such a lazy copout especially for a 2 hour and 30 minute movie. Like what? You where too lazy to show how he fights all these guys or how he gets his ass whooped so you just cut away from it? Fucking boring. Oh, and the brother character that it seemed like they where going to keep alive for the sequel and make him a crime boss of some sort is killed in the first five seconds of the Raid 2, the fuck? He had so much potential as a character but they just kill him off like this is Game Of Thrones or some shit? Fucking no, this a weird ass universe where apparently everyone is skilled in some sort of martial art if you're going to kill of such a crucial character, give him a fucking fight scene. The Raid 1 was a nonstop thrill ride with a huge bodycount while the Raid 2 was a complete and total borefest that left me waiting over 2 hours for things to start heating up but they never fucking did. When the biggest and best fight scene happens near the start of your 3 hour movie, you have a fucking problem. Also, what the fuck was up with that ending? Such fucking sequel bait and it left absolutely no closure. I have no clue how people liked this dogshit.

    Hey Jeremy, big fan here -- Russian.
    To be honest, if you look at the villains in American action movies, you'll notice that most of the time, they represent the current "Political enemies," of the US. It's a modern, sophisticated method of propaganda. It kind of dehumanises these other countries, which makes it easier for political parties to work against them.
    That said, if you're from one of these countries (like myself), and you just go with it, well, you get some fun action flicks.
    One thing that DOES bother me, though, is that they're almost never played by the people from that country, so they look, and especially sound nothing like the people represented. That's incredibly annoying. There are some exceptions, of course, but that's what they are -- exceptions.
    And you are seriously missing out on The Raid. You'll love it to death and back. Fantastic film...

    • @Exletion
      @Exletion 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't think portraying Russians, in modern days, as the big bad mob is actually related to your point. Though your point is definitely applicable other times, I think showing the Russian mob in an infamous light is merely because, well, they are infamous. I see it kind of like the Yakuza in Japan. Everyone knows they are big and bad and so the screen writers, for easy accessibility to the audience, just throw them in there. What bugs me more, is that screenwriters can't think of something more original.
      On a side note, I totally agree with you on casting the right actors for different countries. That bugs the hell out of me too.

    • @utubefanbase
      @utubefanbase 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude, your point is so real - it's what I say all the time, and some people think I'm being overly judgmental. Frankly to me, it takes away from authenticity... And while it's okay sometimes, you certainly don't wanna see it all the time. I mean seldom to you see real anymore (re: niche movie roles). I loved "24" because Dubaku character was played by a real African - they get Brits to play Brits. "24" was one of the most authentic shows I ever watched. I totally agree with your point. Get some real Russians to play them roles. I'll understand if there's a short supply of good Russian actors out there... BUT, it that's not the case, then why pass them up? I mean I lived in Ukraine for like a few years and so yeah, I kinda shared your sentiment when I watched this. But hey, this movie is about John Wick, at the end of the day - I say let the bullets fly, and the good times roll.

    I thought the "kill the dog" premise would be more hilarious rather than serious and sad. However, the way the portrayed it, the way they made the beginning so depressing and this dog shows his connection to the new owner and it truly became a spark of hope for John. Surprisingly, I sympathize with the main character, I do understand why he went rampage on those guys and once the movie hits Blu-rays in my country, I'll wait for a discount. Yeah, movies in Poland are freaking expensive comparing to average man's salary, so don't judge me.

You hear that he *did* talk about many positives but closer to the end he mentions a few negatives (like the movie running a bit long) and it's those factors that usually stop it from getting top score. On the other hand, The Avengers, which Jeremy dubbed awsometacular, was said by Jeremy to have a godd run time, well thought and equal attention to the many characters in the film, etc. So there's a reason...

    This is what hit man movies should be like it’s bad ass yet you have depths to the character

  • @otherdrummer5409
    @otherdrummer5409 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I loved it! The plot was so simple that they did not really need to make sure if they had to wrap anything up. Meaning there was no unnecessary twists or sub plots. John had to kill person A, and if anyone got in his way, he killed them.
    The relationship with his dog at the beginning of the movie was flawless as well. Good job, Keanu.

      Alexander Forsman I think he means how well Edge of Tomorrow did at the box office relative to how good that movie was.

    • @AlexanderForsman
      @AlexanderForsman 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So he don't want it to have a box office that's twice the size of the budget? Is it good or bad?
      Personally, i liked Edge of Tomorrow and John Wick seem to be entertaining as well.

    • @ryanodea8348
      @ryanodea8348 10 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Alexander Forsman You misunderstand, he's saying that he hopes John Wick doesn't suffer from poor marketing that doesn't do the film justice, like Edge of Tomorrow

    • @Mehzers
      @Mehzers 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jimmy Rustler Yup. And also, even with a worldwide box office twice of the budget, Edge of Tomorrow is still widely considered to be a box office disappointment. So much so that they actually changed the name of the movie for DVD/Blu-Ray release to try to draw in buyers.

    make John Wick a former cop, replace the dog with a wife and baby and it feels like a good Max Payne movie.

    I watched it for the first time last week.... and holy shit, that was AWESOME! It definitely does have a comic book world feel to it, the action sequences were really amazing, the dialog was cheesy, but I enjoyed it. all in all, to me John Wick is.... awesometacular.

    2:36 lol, we all love Keanu!! I'm a fan of the guy since the original matrix, good times. He is awesome, likable, cheer charisma and he can say stupid lines all day xD
    I loved this movie. most because of the motivation. I mean, if you dont pay attention, you miss the point. Its not about the car or the dog... Is just a matter of respect. They invaded his privacy and disrespected him. The movie showed all the time how the mob respects their overall organization. Theon just pulled the guy back in the game, and that is the translation (or the subtitle, so to speak) on international countries by the way. A spot on translation in my opinion, sums up the twisted motivation. And, again, I love you Keanu!!!

    John Wick showed me that Keanu Reeves is the man. The action was excellent and there was never a slow moment for me. The editing is done really well too. Nice flowing movement with the camera. No shaky cam and quick cuts. You can see it all and for me, John Wick is.... AWESOMETACULAR! Woo! Hoo! Woo!!!
