LOL @ the backseat space: Fun story: my 70 yr old mother rode in the back seats of my 2013 FRS and she just put her feet/legs on the center console ...problem solved hahah ;)
Yeah, I really get tired of everyone saying that everyone knows that “nobody” will ever sit back there. My girlfriend is very petite and she would likely have no trouble sitting in the front seat with it way forward and her equally petite girlfriend could fit in the back seat right behind her. Now obviously this would not be ideal on a long trip but it would work quite well if we were all going out to dinner together or something like that. That back seat is only there for those extremely rare occasions when you might need to give a 3rd passenger a lift across town. Although the basic design of the engine is based on Subaru, Toyota's D4-S direct injection technology has been introduced, so the entire area from the head to the fuel injection system uses Toyota's patented technology. This is why the names of both Toyota and Subaru are written on the engine. In the development process, Toyota brought in the product planning itself, so we must not forget that Toyota was involved in the fundamental aspects of the design, even down to the position of the engine to lower the center of gravity.
@@goodlifebdg the Miata is probably a little more fun on public roads (especially if you prefer the drop-top experience) the 86 feels a little more disciplined and the rear slides a little more organically in my experience (more fun on track, also safer on track due to fixed roof)
@@dwnshft thanks dude. Considering miata / brz. Will probably never go on track, so leaning towards miata. Brz is much more practical. But.. Topless is priceless (quote-worthy ?)
It depends on your personal opinion if Toyota or Subaru looks and feels better. Both cars are very similar with some minor differences. I drive the 2023 BRZ and the outline for me looks better. Subaru in Germany is very rare and the STI parts are not necessary, but are looking great. It is a cool car concept, we are lucky to have these days. So enjoy every hour with your Toyota or Subaru. I think we will get not that much comparable stuff in the future. Other hypercars are nice, but they are not affordable for most of us. Regarding the shift gear or automatic transmission: I have no chance to compare that for the BRZ, but for a normal car with actual safety features like automatic distance controls a automatic transmission is great. I think at this sport car a manual brings more fun and it’s easy to handle. Just my point o view. Better to have one with automatic than having none 😊 Nice review and good additional content at the comments. Thank you all for that.
This car, MX5 and the much more exoensive GRC are 10/10 cars except this cars on flaw - the Subaru engine issues. It sucks coz otherwise this car is as good at it gets

Yes the turn signal is dumb (the Savage Geese guy said he gets the urge to take a saw and chop it off every time he gets in), but nobody mentions the cruse control, It's nearly the same as the 1971(!) Toyota Celica (if you're math impaired, that's 50+ years old). it's not digial like in a Honda civic where once you set it, you can click it up or down and it adjusts the cruse in 1mph increments. It also has a 3 blink lane change mode where you just flip it once, and it blinks 3 times and then turns itself off. I'm going to miss both those. The sad thing is that to fix these things, it would probably raise the prince by $5000. Not an acceptable price increase in a "Driver's car", where you're just supposed to put up with inconveniences like that. But you should probably get one anyway. Rumors have it the replacement is a 3 cylinder turbo hybrid with BMW/Audi/Cadilac styling.
I still strongly believe that all the newer “cheap” rwd cars are overpriced. Got a 1st gen brz back in 2016 for 21k and that seemed reasonable at the time, ~35k for a facelift, alcantara, and a tune is just overly unreasonable.. but I’m still determined to get a 2nd gen (probably used tho… broke enthusiast stay broke 😅)
I have a premium in halo white reserved that I will be picking up in April and it's going to hurt to pay for so I think you are playing it smart but unfortunately I need a new car anyway as the daily beater is at deaths door, wish me luck lol.
Wrong - Toyota hasn't paid Subaru to put on their logo on the engine... They have actually provided the Toyota D4S injection to use with the Subaru engine. So that's valid cooperation even if it's mainly a Subaru
I got the all weather floor mats and it came with the rear ones as well. Oh and the the GR shifter was $135 when I brought it (the auto version but I think Manual was the same price, must’ve went up.
You got it wrong on the engine. It is not just a Subaru engine that Toyota paid to put their name on. It includes Toyota's direct injection AND port injection. A major improvement over the Subaru engine.

This is why the names of both Toyota and Subaru are written on the engine.
In the development process, Toyota brought in the product planning itself, so we must not forget that Toyota was involved in the fundamental aspects of the design, even down to the position of the engine to lower the center of gravity.
For the same price & for driving alone, would you pick this or miata ?
This is a little more fun on a track I think so maybe this…but it’s close
@@dwnshft thanks.. i am considering these 2.
Why is this more fun than miata ? I thought the open air makes the miata more fun
@@goodlifebdg yeah if you won’t go on track and you like the convertible experience then you’ll love the Miata!
Looks like you keep your seat leaned back pretty far
I could probably use this as a daily driver and take to the track on weekends.
I think I’m going to grab one but it has to have the performance package because I want the BREMBOS!
Can you adjust the cruise control in 1 mph increments like some other Japanese cars?
Yes on the Auto
@@JoshAllen-c4n So really No.
Better to have one with automatic than having none 😊
Nice review and good additional content at the comments. Thank you all for that.
Is this the premium model ?
Yes
No place for sunglasses?
This car, MX5 and the much more exoensive GRC are 10/10 cars except this cars on flaw - the Subaru engine issues. It sucks coz otherwise this car is as good at it gets
everyday spirited driving wont blow up your engine
subaru boxer engines have a lot more issues than the trendy new exploding engine problem.… that’s just the icing on the cake lol when toyota allegedly redoes the drivetrain on this thing sign me up (at msrp)
My one and biggest reason for not buying one yet. That dam sSubaru boxer engine. Not to mention it sounds gawd awful 🫤
Why does this kid sound like Doug DeMuro's son?
Modest price tag??? How is 40k € modest???
What else can you buy in a similar class for a similar price?
@@MeltingRubberZ28 there is no newer car that you can buy for that price, that is atleast as good as gr86
however... that doesnt make 40k cheap by any means... its way out of the pricerange specially if you were to consider that only 9 EU countries average salary is higher then the average EU salary, which is 33.5k a year
@prospect2664 so your gripe is more on any cars price vs average income compared to this car in specific
@@MeltingRubberZ28 no, its that 40k is no way a modest price tag... if it was under 27-30k, then yhea, it might be a modest price tag
Got a 1st gen brz back in 2016 for 21k and that seemed reasonable at the time, ~35k for a facelift, alcantara, and a tune is just overly unreasonable.. but I’m still determined to get a 2nd gen (probably used tho… broke enthusiast stay broke 😅)
same lmao i'm going to get my hands on one one day
I have a premium in halo white reserved that I will be picking up in April and it's going to hurt to pay for so I think you are playing it smart but unfortunately I need a new car anyway as the daily beater is at deaths door, wish me luck lol.
24. Gain new friendship with Toyota service manager 😂
Lololol
Wrong - Toyota hasn't paid Subaru to put on their logo on the engine... They have actually provided the Toyota D4S injection to use with the Subaru engine. So that's valid cooperation even if it's mainly a Subaru
4 cup holders 😂how many beverages do you need?
I got the all weather floor mats and it came with the rear ones as well. Oh and the the GR shifter was $135 when I brought it (the auto version but I think Manual was the same price, must’ve went up.
Innnnnteresting
love the anniversary record. does BRZ has it? It's gonna be a deal breaker for me
I have a child's car seat in my BRZ lol
You got it wrong on the engine. It is not just a Subaru engine that Toyota paid to put their name on. It includes Toyota's direct injection AND port injection. A major improvement over the Subaru engine.
So y is Toyota 86gt cheaper than Subaru brz?
They make more gr86s than brzs
I hate race tex / alcantara on any wear surface, it gums up and she’s really quickly
10:46 wait why does mine have an extra cup holder? We have the same car Wtf??!!
Yours is automatic
Yes yours is the less fun version. But you get the cup.
I canNOT decide between this and the BRZ 🤧🤧🤧 or saving 20k more for a RCF
I have this and consider trading for RC but probably won’t. RC very heavy
Great review lots of info. Only knock I have is shut up when doing performance driving and hard cornering at revs we want to hear the engine not your yapper. Thanks.
Toyota also put their dual fuel injection on the Subaru motor.
Toyota owns 20% of subaru. Its more of toyota parts shared with subaru, subaru logo on stuff, but its very difficult to know which ones are toyota and which ones are subaru
24 of the most common things you already knew about the 86
You know, reviewers always knock on Japanese cars not having leg room in the back, but they never criticize American cars for the same issue. Never hear that level of scrutiny with the mustang or Camaro.
@@joerandom8678 oh no I’ve been plenty vocal about the Mustang - haven’t made a video on the Camaro
As an old person I concur with your assessment of Facebook. 😏
Believe Toyota added port injection to the engine, which is where some of the new hp come from. So the engine is not only Subaru.
Wrong, the gt86 had dual injection. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
@@georgemcunty6383 very mean smh
@@NinoInTheCommentsdude was mean just to be wrong lmao
Mentioning lord Demuro was 🤌🤌🤌
If not for this video I would not have known my car even had rear floor mats.
Lololol #HelpfulConsumerTips
Don't forget that Subie oil filter!
like the gt86 more tbh
I just purchased the new BRZ and I’m in love with it. For some reason, this video popped up into my feed! 😂😂😂
I’m so on the fence I have option at the moment to get either at MsrP
how was the purchasing process? Were you able to get a manual easily?
@@reganmianI was able to get the 2023 that was available on the dealership’s floor. Luckily for me it’s my favorite color. Red with a six speed! Unfortunately now that I got injured at work, I don’t drive it as much and with only 1600 miles I’m on the fence on selling it.
@@reganmian easy. But unfortunately I’ve become disabled and 1600 miles later I’m debating on possibly putting it up for sale.
Really enjoyed the video. Thanks!
