John Owen-Jones is up there with greats such as Colm Wilkinson, Alfie Boe, Michael Ball, Ramin Karimloo.....you are not going to get a better version of Bui-Doi in our lifetime
Mr. Owen-Jones is very good, I agree. I saw Miss Saigon in Chicago in the 1990s, with the original cast, and Lea Salonga as Kim. The night we were there, the regular cast member who played John (and sings Bui Doi) was absent, his place taken by his understudy, a black actor with a gospel singer's voice. The program did not list his name, they just announced from the stage that a different actor would be taking the role that evening. But I can hear him singing Bui Doi, and the duet with Kim called Please, in my head to this day. He had a voice for the ages.
I saw both him and Alfie Boe in the role. Sorry but Boe is far superior. That doesn't mean that I do not like Mr Owen Jones, mind you. My comment is meant with all respect to your opinion and Mr Owen Jones whom I admire very much. His John from Miss Saigon is a fine example, indeed. :)
Well I've seen both of Alfie and JOJ dozen times and never felt Alfie is far superior. I think Alfie is more like a singer not an actor. Different perspective-I'd admit but I think there are plenty reasons why songwriters of Les Mis told people JOJ as the best JVJ in the world.
@@Anna.GG. NO..John is SUPERIOR!. John can both act and sing..his version of bring him home sounds like a prayer... Alfie's version sounds like he's trying to wake up entire city of Paris... Alfie can sing yes but he cannot act .. he's completely wooden..his strength is in concert versions... John can perform in both concert and stage productions..you stand corrected
He is freaking brilliant. I have seen him as both Valjean and the Phantom and he was ace as both, probably the best I have ever seen in both roles, he was that good.
I have watched this video many times and I love Johns voice. He is wonderful. I don't think I have ever heard anyone sing as good as he does. I am in awe of his talent of singing and acting.. I cannot get enough.
The Man's a musical magician. I never saw him as Valjean , but he's MY Phantom.... This song just proves how his wonderful voice can move you. Just wonderful...
I fell in heavy-like with John Owen-Jones during the finale of Les Mis, the O2 Anniversary performance. Well, I loved his voice but when he stepped back for Colm Wilkinson to just take the mic and go, I knew he was a class act. When we looked him up and realized he’s Welsh - Perfection!!!
Is there anything this chap cannot sing. Every performance he does is heartfelt Seen in les mis in Bristol hippodrome 20yrs ago and never seen anyone better playing the lead again
Bless you Owen Griffith XX ,🙏 can I just say you are all beloved children 🙏 If I could take all21 I would. The emotions are too much to explain! 💞😢😭 I have to stay unemotional most days just to distract me from my PTSD and emotional problems.
I find this song so sad 😭 I get goosebumps every time I hear it along with Rachel Wooding singing on Britain’s got talent and colm Wilkinson singing bring him home
I remembered this song from when I did a school play and remembered it was such a goofy song. I searched this up to have a laugh, but this is so good I can't find it funny. My dissapointment is immeasurable
Thanks for uploading this. I LOVE JOJ and saw him several times playing Jean Valjean and the Phantom and as himself last Novemeber in Edinburgh and as well as having the most incredible voice he's such a lovely man with a warm personality. x
grande cantor britânico, desconhecido no Brasil, numa linda canção de "Miss Saigon". Este cantor fez o 'Jean Valjean" em LES MISERABLES, em Londres....Excelente voz.
They're called Bui-Doi The Dust of life Concieved in hell And born is strife They are the the living reminders Of all the good we failed to do We can't forget Must not forget That they are all Our children too Like all survivors, I once thought When I'm home I won't give a damn But now I know I'm caught I'll never leave Vietnam War isn't over when it ends Some pictures never leave you mind They are the faces of the children The ones we left behind They're called Bui-Doi The dust of life Concieved in hell And born in strife They are the living reminders Of all the good we failed to do We can't forget Must not forget That they are all Our children too These kids hit walls on every side They don't belong in any place Their secret they can't hide Its printed on their face I never thought I'd plead For half-breeds from a land that's torn But then I saw a camp for children Whose crime was being born They're called Bui-Doi The dust of life Concieved in hell And born in strife We owe them fathers, and a family - And loving home they never knew Because we know Deep in our hearts That they are all Our children too These are souls in need They need us to give Someone has to pay For their chance to life Help me try and They're called Bui-Doi The dust of life Concieved in hell And born in strife They are the living reminders Of all the good we failed to do That's why we know Deep in our hearts That they are all Our children too
I was wondering why he didn’t do the high note on “we failed to do” like the original version. But then, after listening to it again ( countless times😏), the very ambitious and long note at 4:08 Was followed by a very full voice transition to the next verse.... which was insane. How he managed to have any breathe at all to maintain that tone was impressive.
It was probably also that he was following the original Peter Polycarpou rendition of Bui Doi where you only have to sing "we failed to do" strongly but not high
JOJ should totally play John (haha because he's called John, but he'd make a fantastic Chris too)... Really hope to see him in Miss Saigon soon, 25th anniversary!!

Check out the Anthony Warlow rendition - also very good!
Correct. It doesn't get better
Alfie is great though John preceded him.
@@lmajor7843you meant the understudy of Peter Polycarpou. 😁 Although I prefer Polycarpou there are otherS like JOJ that are just NAILING THIS SONG 😊
I literally can't listen this song without shedding tears. This one is just WOW.
My all time favorite Broadway / West End singers: Colm Wilkinson, Ramin Karimloo, John Owen Jones
John Owen Jones is just fabulous. What a voice. Proud to be Welsh
Now people, do you see why he became the youngest Valjean on West End? That's how.
I’m going to see Alfie in August and John in November as JVJ. Can’t wait

Totally agree! He's amazing!

He is certainly a brilliant singer, but in my opinion there are better th-cam.com/video/rTFUM4Uh_6Y/w-d-xo.html
Mr. Jones never fails to move me to tears.
Astro H W His Phantom (which I use as a barometer compared to JVJ) brought me to tears. His voice is remarkable, His acting impeccable. So talented.
Hypocrite
WOW.....I love the music of Miss Saigon.
Sweet merciful God in heaven! This man is AMAZING!! Greek sirens ain’t got nothing on him. Thank you TH-cam recommendations!!
Everytime i hear this song, it brings to my eyes. I AM a BUI DOI. Though they have forgotten me, I have firgiven them.
JOJ sings this song better than anyone , it's the way it should be sung, with passion for the children.
Amazing singing from John Owen Jones, and superb backing from wonderful Only Men Aloud. Riveting!
I just discovered this song and it’s amazing. Why does people insist on singing the same songs in auditions when we have this underrated gem
its a well known piece used often from Miss Saigon
WHY DOES YOU TALK LIKE THIS?
What an amazingly talented man John is. I saw him in phantom but not in les mis. This song never fails to make me cry. So thank you xx
JOJ is amazing here!!! I remember watching Miss Saigon couple of months ago and crying over this song. But JOJ made this song more touching
Good looking and voice that would cause one to tremble in awe... life is not fair! Superb what a gift to the world
J o j is the best professional entertainer I have heard. I was lucky enough to see him at the Bristol hippodrome
JOJ is awesome
I love this song by John, and the Mens choir, its beautiful and the message has really got to me.
Incredible. Such a powerful voice sung with such intent. Truly fabulous.
The Man's a musical magician. I never saw him as Valjean , but he's MY Phantom.... This song just proves how his wonderful voice can move you. Just wonderful...

I'm so glad I found this video.
Just amazing vocals from John Owen Jones, he has such great tone, timing and vocal range. Phenomenal.
6 people dont have ears. This is the best version of Bui Doi ever!
I had always imagined this song as pop gospel hymn. Thanks, Hugh, for a dream come true!!! 👏👏👏
The best theatre person ever
This so beautiful and pertinent to the present time and wars. The suffering continues.......sadly.

Best Phantom ever.
I remembered this song from when I did a school play and remembered it was such a goofy song. I searched this up to have a laugh, but this is so good I can't find it funny.
My dissapointment is immeasurable

Forgot to mention I have now seen the new production and Hugh Maynard does a damn good job singing this fine song.
Simply brilliant 😢.

BRILLIANT!!!
This is incredible- brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for sharing

Great rendition!
Beautiful.
They're called Bui-Doi
The Dust of life
Concieved in hell
And born is strife
They are the the living reminders
Of all the good we failed to do
We can't forget
Must not forget
That they are all
Our children too
Like all survivors, I once thought
When I'm home I won't give a damn
But now I know I'm caught
I'll never leave Vietnam
War isn't over when it ends
Some pictures never leave you mind
They are the faces of the children
The ones we left behind
They're called Bui-Doi
The dust of life
Concieved in hell
And born in strife
They are the living reminders
Of all the good we failed to do
We can't forget
Must not forget
That they are all
Our children too
These kids hit walls on every side
They don't belong in any place
Their secret they can't hide
Its printed on their face
I never thought I'd plead
For half-breeds from a land that's torn
But then I saw a camp for children
Whose crime was being born
They're called Bui-Doi
The dust of life
Concieved in hell
And born in strife
We owe them fathers, and a family -
And loving home they never knew
Because we know
Deep in our hearts
That they are all
Our children too
These are souls in need
They need us to give
Someone has to pay
For their chance to life
Help me try
and
They're called Bui-Doi
The dust of life
Concieved in hell
And born in strife
They are the living reminders
Of all the good we failed to do
That's why we know
Deep in our hearts
That they are all
Our children too
John looks like russell crowe and jonathon ross mixed together
Maybe but he is a better singer than Russell .Just saw John as Valjean On Broadway .
I can definitely see the Jonathan Ross resemblence now!
Yikes... not very flattering comparisons! I don't think he quite resembles anyone.
Exquisite; Outstanding,
Brilliant rendition !
Thank you for posting!!! I love him!
OH MY! GOOSEBUMPS 💕
Hes incredible 💜💜💜💜💜💜
Superb!
Wonderfully sung...but breaks my heart.
I feel that when God decided what voice the human male was to sound like this is exactly what he thought of.😀
very very good
perfect!!!
Perfect!!!!
Omg and SO easy to look at🤗
Goosebumps
Very nice
just fabulous.....
WOW, HOLY SHIT JOHN OWEN JONES IS AWESOME.
fabulous as was Jon in phantom

Outstanding
Definitive version by far.
Was he ever in Miss Saigon, though? I would love to see him in it.
Random Cellist That's too bad, thanks for the reply, though. I saw him in Les Mis as JVJ and he is my favourite Val Jean.
John "Owen Wilson" jones
That exact thing crossed my mind just before I saw your comment 😂
How the fuck does this only have 30k views??? Brilliant!
