i went to pick up a puppy .. got there in the dark of night.. was so intimidating... not for the weak or the STRONG ! lol .. I handled it like an EAGLE going up and down.. however, I would NOT want to be in an RV.. yikes... glad you are safe !! I praised God I have a nicer SUV. And, yes, I wanted to see what it looked like in the day as well.. lol
I was going to have a fit about the mining then you sung the camera around and I saw it was all still mostly on the Virginia side. That doesn't make it right, though. They're still wanting to do mountaintop removal on the Kentucky side, or were last time I heard anything.
THAT UGLY STRIP MINE, MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL IS ON THE VIRGINIA SIDE OF HWY 160. THE COAL COMPANIES WANT TO DO THIS TO ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS. ALL THE AIR CRAFT USE THAT RADAR AS A WAY POINT.
This was my mommas favorite. So beautiful!
Thanks for the video. I couldn't remember how to get there. My last visit was in 1989. I grew up in Whitesburg down below. I miss the mountains!
thanks Tofi and keep em coming....Interesting about the waiver...
Thanks, I accidently took my rv up this road at 4 am it was scary as hell, wanted to see what it looked like in daytime

Thanks for the video. I just got back from Black Mountain and your video was very helpful
My ancestors lived on both the KY and VA side of Black Mountain. The highest point is near the radar station.

Umm Nope not on Black Mountain...mountain top removal won't happen ever in Kentucky.
We traveled every weekend across Black mountain over into Norton Virginia

I got pictures in my Facebook that was taken of my family on this mountain when they homesteaded there
Look for Margo Posie Moody on Facebook to get her to send you the pictures
Thanks for sharing. It would be good to perhaps invest in a camera with image stabilization. It was pretty hard to watch.
not kidding
That’s where my momma was from. The Rice , Compagnari families
don't forget the hills have eyes
