yep! I tried to push myself to see if I can use some 3D models of people. But I can't simulate physics with these ragdolls. It's close to impossible to animate ragdolls :) it was a good attempt though!
maybe if the ragdolls have too much pressure on them then they fall over? also i do have some suggestions for realism -lights turn off when the building collapses (if they dont already) -computer screens turn off when they fall -car models break down or explode i am a REALY big fan of simulations being TOP NOTCH realistic lol. anyways i was just asking :D
these are amazing suggestions! I was able to simulate lights turning off before, it takes more time but it is possible :) make sure you check my gas station simulation (9.0 Cascadia video) so that you see the lights turning off
At intensity 10, the main steel beams holding up the structure change from whole steel beams to 2 different beams attached in the middle, making it weaker. I honestly think that the building could have survived intensity 11 or maybe even 12 if the design changes making it progressively weaker don't occur; I feel like it would be interesting if you created a weak structure, then progressively made enhancements to increase the building's strength to show different methods of earthquake collapse prevention. Edit: I challenge you to make the building from 'When Engineering Fails" survive intensity 11 only by using engineering lol
There are forces in nature in which no human built object can survive. The Chicxulub impact 65 million years ago created an 11.0 and briefly caused a 3 mile high tsunami that traveled inland all the way to modern day Montana. Besides, no structure can survive fissures opening up and soil, liquefaction and significant ground instability.
I absolutely love you videos keep up the good work = also a celebration for first appearance of rag dolls 🥳🥳🎉🎉 = * a recommendation for a future simulation have a wave/tsunami happen for ever earthquake but like expected the bigger/more intense earthquake the bigger/more intense tsunami
Imagine if you were in the position of the ragdolls. It really shows how vulnerable life is at higher intensity and groundshaking. Dock, cover, hold and run might NOT even work...
These are cool simulations. But I would expect any public library in earthquake country to have shelves that will not fall over in an earthquake. I sure hope so, as I work in a public library, shelving books, so I spend many hours in the stacks. I have been told that our shelves will not fall over in an earthquake.
it's quite impossible for now, but in the future :) remember that I am creating all these simulations by myself, I wish I had a big team to help me create better animations
Is the earthquake right under the building? Usually nothing falls over in an earthquake until maybe 5.0 on richter scale. But then again this is when an earthquake is farther away. I live in Alaska so just curious.
In Chile... Mercalli 3 = Normallity every six or seven months = People talking Mercalli 4 = Every Year = People holding the tv Mercalli 6 = The fear and screams begins. Mercali 7 = 2010 Earthquake. We were sleeping (Sorry for my bad english)
The trees should've been uprooted/broken off in the three strongest intensities. Yeah, the people could've started moving around, running out of the building, getting under tables, etc.. The two people on the roof should've been bucked off by intensity 6.
How scientifically accurate are you striving to make your simulations? I want to put a challenge to you: detail your models down to all of a buildings component parts: the foundations, all of the columns and beams, studs, bricks and concrete blocks, windows including the frames and glass, roofing materials; if a stick frame, all of the studs, cross members, joints, drywall, composites and manufactured wood products. In other words, build your buildings as if you were the contractor responsible for overseeing the entire project. Then rig it with all of the proper constraints, tolerances, properties, springs, hinges, etc., etc. to run the simulation with.
Really good video. The XII mercalli is how the 1960 Valdivia Erathquare with a 9.5 magnitude. But the Loma Prieta earthquare. make a MLB Series Game make this signal shut off. DID YOU TINK THIS IS A JOKE!!!!!!
Now see, I have a problem with some of these simulations. These are based on a single stability design. Different regions of countries have different building codes for Earth Quakes. These video simulations are a completely inaccurate depiction of what might happen during an Earth Quake. For my area the ground would liquefy and nearly ALL would be destroyed in even a 4.0 Earth Quake.
Remember, on the Richter scale, each scale (Mg 1, Mg 2, etc) is 31.6 times more powerful than the one before it. E.g. Mg 5 is 31.6 times more powerful than a Mg 4 and so on.
@@wilcofaber9863 I just checked, according to ChatGPT, it's 31.6 times more powerful per number of increase,.. Mg 5 = 31.6 x more powerful than a Mg 4. So, I stand corrected. Thanks for the input. :) Have amended my original post to reflect the facts.

well, one moment the building was strong and secure and then the next the building was on the ground!
Next time you make a video please remove the people.
At stage 10 you put in steel plates on the columns to keep them together.

some of them are falling but only a few. For my future simulations I will make them fall with intensity IX and above. Good observation!
