heh, got a few hundred days of fuels and production thinning on these 261s (only three saws, two m-tronic). didn't ever do much to them except a daily scrub down, weekly blow out, and occasional filters, plugs and regap, coils and regap, and clutch drum bearings. the m-tronics started to give me trouble after 3 or 4 months, and i'm not quite smart enough to figure it out or commit to the trouble shooting process, whichever one of those makes sense, made sense to me to take it to the company tech and later the shop i bought one of them from. just gave my personal 261c to a youngster (9 years younger than my 27 at least), can't wait to cut with that kid again, and he's working to become an rpf at that. Jack, your fallers corner videos have been an immense help in my development as a faller, usually working alone, not with any outfit except the one on the back of my rig (does that make me a gypo?), presumably south of you on the east side of 101, deep in the black. thank you very much my friend, you seem like a real crucial dude
n00bicon hi. A gyppo is as much an outfit size as it is a state of mind - like the "Twig" on the tugboat mast in, and this is if I'm remembering the movie title correctly, Once a Great Notion. Usually, it depicts an actual 'logging outfit". Hence the term, gyppo logger . Gyppo faller is kind of the norm in a lot of places out on the West Coast that I have been. So yes, company size you definitely qualify as a gyppo. Thanks for watching.
I have a ms362c-m and it comes with only 1 3/8 sized hole for the exhaust. So I just drilled another right next to it and it runs better. Doesn’t bog out as easily running a 25” bar.
I feel it nessicary to inform ..you men that teach us and give us your time.that background noises and not so good video is non issue ..God bless you..for your efforts..
I just pick up a 260 pro made some dogs out of a set off a 064. Im definitely impressed with the power to weight, but the same as the 261 it could use some more low end. Do you think the high reving route of stihl is due to stricter emissions?
worldwar11 hi. I think that the metered air leak is the emissions aspect. I think that the engine design with the shorty strokes is not helping with the lowend grunt. Thanks for watching.
@@hotsaws101 thank you! I spent forever trying to figure out what size of socket they were but it turns out the holes they are in on the baffle are so slim. Won’t even really allow a 8mm to go in, but I got them off.
hi ! how long has this saw been run ? i have a 261 manual carb and after running it for 10 tanks with stihl ultra hp oil 40:1 ratio the piston head is completly black :O is this normal ? :D saw is brand new just about 10 tanks of running
B B hi. You had better verify with your local dealer on whether or not the flywheel in your saw is compatible with a different - the 3.0 - coil system. You had also better verify that the fuel solenoid in the carb is compatible with the newer 3.0 module. Not always a simple throw in a new part with Stihl. Best of luck. Thanks for watching.
I have the same saw, would start when cold then warms up and it would die, the last time it did it, it died and smoke came from the side of it. I replaced the coil and the plug and it still doesn't start, there's no spark to the plug, what else could be wrong? Thanks
S B hi. Sounds like a seal might be out. But,,, not sure where "smoke came from the side of it" is exactly. It's like the guy calling, asking how to fall a tree on his place. Without standing right there, it's about 11/10 impossible to give accurate advise. Same for the saws. Maybe the lead. Maybe the plug. Maybe the flywheel. It is possible the "new coil" is also bad because I have run into that myself. Maybe a seal - on the smoke anomaly. Maybe there is a crack in the case - no mention of a roll over incident. Maybe a gasket went bad. A whole lotta "who knows"... Sounds like someone trained in diagnostics should have a looksee. Best of luck. Thanks for watching.
I would love to see a video of you “putting the hurt” on this 261 because currently I have my one and only saw (261) taken apart and I’d like to do the same.
Stihl seems to be following auto makers,,,make your product so difficult to work on only their trained mechanics can do the repairs and at what they charge you will buy a new saw. Ever check the reviews of current US-made Stihl products? Check their pro pole saws, the US-built chainsaws, etc. It is the reason Echo is eating their lunch on the East Coast. We have very few Husky dealers so I am not familiar with their equipment.

Can’t wait to see more. Always awesome to learn more about theses newer saws.
Looking forward to more on this saw, thanks for the video!
To quote Jack, I say "interesting". I look forward to see the progress on this saw.

Hey, just wondering what tool @2:08 you used to remove the air filter fixture/carburetor? Thanks

Anyone know what socket to remove the carburetor my 8mm wont fit
Yeah just now finding out that I have the same problem

Been using this saw for years and think it was a homerun from Stihl. It’s a beast compared to the 260.
Good Day Sir , this is Bob , can you drop me a link to your shop when you get the full rap done for the 261 Stihl , Thanks
What size of socket are those nuts on the baffle?
Triston hi.
8mm on air intake baffle.

How is the 390 compared to the 362
Just bucked up a 37" doug fir with my muff mod 261. Would gutting the stratto get this saw some more power?
A R hi. What I do in my shop stays in my shop. Thanks for watching.

Run it 50:1
You're not burning all the oil.
hello do you know the part number for a mtronic 3.0 ignition module on a ms 261 because on mine I have a 2.0 and I want to upgrade it to 3.0

You would be a wealthy man if you had a dollar for everytime you said interesting lol
@5:20 why that is hardwire in blows my mind.

Hi Jack, I see something interesting to your left on the bench ?
Dave hi. MAYBE, LOL! That 5ooi should look familiar.
Thanks fir watching. Moreso, thanks for sending it across the Pond!!
I would love to see a video of you “putting the hurt” on this 261 because currently I have my one and only saw (261) taken apart and I’d like to do the same.
How much to rebuild mine, top end is shot
Hi jack could you get me a set of those dogs for my 261? We can’t get them in uk cheers love the show 👍
Yea so we can't fix them??
put the hurt on it!!!!!
MS261 throw away saw...
seems like a pretty good video for morons who want to see the top of your hat and your fingers what the hell is this about
Too much plastic for a “pro” saw especially one over $600!
No need to put alloy where not needed. That's how You make things lighter Andy. I would never say a bad word about 261, and I was using it hard.
Where would you put metal? The plastic covers don’t need to be steel like the 1950’s
Yeah, but it's reallly light
This saw sucks to take apart and put back together

It's actually not lol.
