Traditionally valuation was based on profitability.. now it's based on something else... data, number of users (even if they dont pay, etc)... lot of mystery in how investors / VCs define unicorns at an early stage and why

    I think for many who have a family, I think we stay small because we want to preserve our time and energy and passion for our family. I have found as my business grows, my priority is not my family which creates a lot of guilt and frustration with my role as a business owner. I appreciate that you are talking about the nuts and bolts of the business but underlying some of the stagnation is a resistance to give up time we want to have for our personal lives. I work 6 and 7 days per week so this isn't me but sometimes I do question if growing my business large is the right decision. My husband told me when our daughter was born that he did not want me to have a large business. He told me he wanted to scale down my dreams so that I would have time for my family. At that time I was very hurt and very insulted and did not feel supported. At this point I start to wonder if he is right. What do you say to those people? I feel like this advice on a large business seems tailored to people without a family. I am not saying this is true. This is just who I picture owning these large businesses.

    • @CEOEntrepreneur
      @CEOEntrepreneur  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s not necessarily true. We build business to serve our lives and lifestyle not for us to serve our businesses and this is unfortunately where there isn’t enough genuine advice on how to scale a business so that it can operate without you (if that’s what you want). Most people find hiring to be a nightmare, because they simply don’t go about it the right way. But It is Definitely possible otherwise franchises wouldn’t be a thing. Finding the right harmony between work and life is an important factor when setting your strategy, building the right systems and team in place. This video was part of a series that shows businesses as they grow and what they typically struggle with, but this doesn’t have to be you. If you don’t want 200 (or 20) people in your business, it can still scale and work without you if you set it up the right way.

    We went from a solopreneur (previous owner), to a microbusiness. Your qualification for a small business is above 1 Million dollars with many employees. I appreciate that you are helping scaling the business but I actually sometimes feel that 6 employees is a lot. I would imagine that what you consider a small business (over 1 million and several employees) sounds like a lot of people to appease, deal with etc. I would love to know how to create this larger business without feeling like you are constantly bombarded with staff members needing your time. I find this is an issue as a micro business and I can only imagine it gets to be more and more constant with being needed within your organization. As a mother and a wife and as someone who would some day like a social life, I now understand why many people in my industry do not want to hire staff members and would rather just stay small (as did the previous owner until she retired). What is the benefit (other than revenue) of actually having a giant organization? I think it seems like just a lot of stress all the time. I am stressed out all the time and I have a microbusiness.

      Thanks for your question Candice. It’s a great one. Ironically, if you hire the right people and build the right systems, you don’t need to be needed so much. The idea is to relieve load from you, not add to it. That’s why businesses like Starbucks and McDonalds don’t need to have the business owner in every store. Yet they deliver the exact same quality everywhere. You don’t need to grow to a large business but you do need to define what success looks like for you (everyone is different) and how to make that happen. If that means financial freedom without stress and having more family time, the this will give you direction on how to shape your business. I’ll do a more detailed video on this as well.
