Ask far as I can tell, from my sixth-grade education, the platform sits 3 to 4 inches higher than the ultimate stick, (where the platform is level with the top bracket and on the same bolt, this gives you more (longer) leverage and thus making the platform move easier under the same pressure, if the top bracket can be moved closer or in a perfect world above the platform then you are in the chips, I like the new concept but the platform needs to be in front of the stick, not above. I think the best complement I can give you as a review person is this?ALL of your reviews have made me change my original opinion and thoughts about the product, every single one of them, fact based and unbiased, you have saved me a lot of money, time and frustration. Thanks!
Thanks ... I really appreciate you saying that about my reviews. The way I described it to a few people who I was discussing it with is that it’s got potential. It’s not really there yet, but with some tweaking it could be really good.
Awesome review/demo! I really like how you approach new products with an open mind and provide honest feedback/opinions. You costs me quite a bit of money when you did the EWO ultimate one stick videos, but I received my gear from EWO and I couldn't be happier. I purchased climbing sticks from both EWO and OOL last year, and prefer the OOL when it comes to climbing sticks and tree stand hunting (they pack better imo). However, I think EWO holds the edge when it comes to one-sticking still (thanks to the OOL scout platform). Great to see more options come to market.
Very excited about the different one sticks coming out. Your channel has been really helpful in with deciding what route to try. It looked like the platform was flexing where it connects to the main beam. Also could there be some stretch in the tree strap material? Maybe something to look into along with the cleat.
After watching the video back, I think you’re right in that it’s the beam itself flexing. I do think it still needs a full-bury Amsteel rope to replace that strap though.
Thanks for all of your informative videos. Can you do a video climbing a tree with tree gaffs and using a platform like a mission or predator? I am new to saddle hunting and I can use tree gaffs on the lease land I hunt on. Thanks.
@@StaggsintheWild That’s what you recommend for everyone to do on the video basically ,so that’s what I did. I just wish he had the pull handle like on the ultimate 1 stick and the monarch was in front of the stick to allow more toe space from the tree trunk.
Hey just a heads up im sure matt says in one of his videos the strap loops around the stick right off the top hat and then to tree. Not straight to tree. Because the top hat wont hold the pressure. Correct me if im wrong
Would an EWO one stick rope work with the sail cleat? 3/16” is roughly 4.7mm? Would you us know which cleat it is please? Would like to look it up. Awesome video!
The EWO rope is much too thick, unfortunately. Luke Dautel makes that rope, and it’s 3/8” full bury. A friend and I are going to experiment with the next-size up cleat (we actually might have to go TWO sizes up ...) and see if we can get 7/64” full bury Amsteel to work.
@@StaggsintheWild is there any size amsteel with a full bury you think would work with this cleat? Sorry for the delayed question reply sir. My brain was working. Lol
@@ISaddleHunt The 7/64" is going to be close... I know a couple guys that are going to be playing a lot with different sizes over the coming days, and I'm sure the community will figure it out soon. :)
Great review. I’m thinking about it when it’s available for 1” tubing. I just think there are going to be a lot of this style platform/sticks come out this year. The issue is going to be how long I wait till I make my decision on which one to buy. I’m think Trophyline/Novix is going to have a couple options coming out.
How do you think the monarch would perform as a platform on the EWO one-stick? The standoffs on the EWOs seem like they would give you a couple extra inches to better utilize the flat portion of the monarch.
Hey guys. Great videos and I love your in depth reviews. I've been watching a ton of videos as I got the green light to go ahead and get what I need to start saddle hunting. My question is this. Not brand or style related. As a guy coming exclusively from a climbing or ladder treestand, I'm up in the air about either getting a set of climbing sticks, or a stick like this in your video. I see the perks of a 1 stick set up. As a climbing stick newbie, would a set of standard sticks be better to start in your opinion? I saw your son do the one stick for the first time. Any input would be appreciated when you get a chance! Keep your videos coming. I enjoy them a lot!
First off, thanks for all the kind words; we really do appreciate them!! I truly think either way you went would work... Even though I used sticks on and off over the years, I was PRIMARILY a climber guy myself over the past 30 years of bowhunting; that's why you'll see me share some of my wisdom on the channel about using a Lone Wolf hand climber. I don't think that having a lot of "traditional" stick experience is necessarily a prerequisite to one-sticking... if you're halfway coordinated or athletic in the least, I think you can replicate the moves we demonstrate in the videos and you'll leapfrog the need for sticks. You can walk in with about 4 lbs if you so choose, and hunt up to 40' high in any tree, limbs or no limbs. It's a great way not to limit yourself in pursuit of your quarry.
@@StaggsintheWild my thing being a "climber guy" is finding trees where I NEED to be that a climber isn't going in on public ground where I can't cut. Lol! After I 'splained to my wife that with a saddle I got both the tether and linemans rope when needed, she was cool with spending some $$$. Anyway, thank you for the reply. I'm really thinking hard on Dano's 1 stick. And I'm way up in the air on saddles yet. Its kind of a new market. Lol! Thank you again for the time and effort in your vids. They are appreciated!
I believe their website is up and running now ... I didn’t get to watch their live feed a couple days ago describing how they would start handling orders though. If you have Facebook and reach out to them on their FB page, I know there’s a guy that helps out with answering questions from there. And he may very well be helping if they go through the new site, too; I’m not sure.
Still one-sticking, though I do plan on putting a mid-sized platform off to the side of the the stick on some hunts next year. I had planned on doing it at the end of last season, but that would necessitate a pack of some sort and I’m just so darn reticent to carry one unless I’m bringing camera gear to film a hunt. 😊
Are you going to review the latitude outdoors method metal-less saddle? They committed for me to wait for the new line to come out for my height and weight plus type 2 diabetics .5’9” and 205lbs. With circulation worries I do all day sits.. I would like to see a review for saddle hunting ropes. Also I have not seen anything about crossbow hunting with a saddle yet.
@@jamesmoore1124 I’ve been hesitant to do anything on other brands of saddles yet beyond the explanation of why we use TX5, as they’re SO subjective - though the latitude method and Cruzr XC draw so much attention I might have to break down and try them out this summer. You’d probably be out of luck in waiting for a crossbow video on this channel ... I’ll only use a compound or traditional bow as long as I’m physically able. 😊
Great idea! After giving it some thought after shooting the video, I probably won’t invest any more time in working with the strap, honestly - I’m going to figure out what it takes to get a full-bury Amsteel rope to work with it.
Nice video but you should really give a close up at beginning so the viewer sees what your talking about. 8mins in and no view of the new cleat you mentioned. Sorry just my opinion and suggestion. Great work though.
We never mind constructive criticism. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I think you’ll see a closeup when I take it out to the tree. I can tell you that most of us are finding that cleat is going to be a no-go for us one-stickers ... more testing to come once the ice storms move out.
That platform on EWO stick would be perfection!
It would make a dandy combo, wouldn’t it??
I messaged EWO about it about a week ago and they said they would be getting the Monarch platforms in as an option for their Ultimate One Sticks

Nice review.
Why do you use Canyon rope and not oplex?
It’s a great question ... Oplux is 8 mm and technically out of spec for the Madrock Safeguard. Canyon fits that criteria by virtue of it being 9 mm.
Could you please give me a list on what I would need to 1 stick. ? Thank you

Either a Harken or Schaeffer will work fine.
