- How to remove a basin for a bathroom refurbishment!
I show you how to remove a basin when you're doing a bathroom refurbishment or renovation - or for whatever reason. I'll show you how to turn off the hot and cold water. How to disconnect your old flexible water supply hoses. How to remove the old taps from your basin. We'll then remove the waste pipe from the bottom of the basin waste, then cut away and remove the basin itself. I'll also show you how to remove the pedestal.
In the next video we'll talk about planning the bathroom and doing the first fix of the pipework, ready for the new bath, radiator and vanity unit basin.

@@mrbrit6746 I got a friend who did one of the short intensive courses and he said it was rubbish. Only learnt how solder and fit a bathroom. Id stay away from them.
@@baldinho8508 Am considering doing the same sort of course alongside my current job, however I have a feeling I might need to find someone in the trade to work with for free just to gain some practical experience. I'm hoping it'll all work out :)
@@mrbrit6746 Good idea. I'm doing half a day a week voluntary for gas. I was going start the course September in college, but I'm waiting a year with the pandemic. You need a placement with gas as you need 40 odd assesments on your work full a portfolio.. My old college tutor is awesome. He gets really excited talking about Plumbing and it was him put me in contact with a friend for my placement. He's always at the end of the phone to if I get stuck. I did some intensive courses for tiling, kitchen fitting, plastering, so I can do abit more go along with it.
For somebody who isn't a plumber and just does bits of DIY work around the house, taking it down to a granular level is very helpful and informative so thank you! 👍

Totally with you on Plasterboard screws! Usually removing a sink first problem is finding the shut off valves and then draining the pipes. I recommended a handy supply of old towels and cloths to mop up all the excess water (one of our plumbers used a wet vac when draining a radiator which I thought was pretty clever). Also those waste pipes are pretty stinky so I always plug them up with an old plastic bag and tape up.
Please continue with this type of video as i'm a total novice and need good guidance from you!! I need your ideas to do my own bathroom. Thanks. :)
Ace video, I have brought a house which is abit of a project !! Bathroom is the bit that needs all the attention, so I'm just going to give it ago, no experience at all but hopefully at the end I'll be able to have a relaxing shower with out the whole thing collapsing through the ceiling 😮

Enjoyed that video mate... always good content even though I do kitchens and bathrooms myself I can tell you losing your tools for them few minutes is a pain in the arse... lost my wallet at work once. Flat tyre on the van in the morning, lost wallet after that.... found it 2 months later in the box with all the jack and wheel nuts in under my seat 😂😂😂😂😂 cancelled all cards and new driving licence n all. Take it easy mate and thanks for keeping us all sane whilst we can’t do bugger all!

Thanks James. The inline valves are hopeless and as you say "have you ever had one that doesn't leak?". How did you stop it leaking and what valves would you suggest for under a pedestal sink like that?

Great timing for this series. I always smear those iso valve heads with vaseline after fitting to try to mitigate bathroom condensation corrosion particularly on the colds. Are there better qual valves like Peglers that are worth using?

Your sink is easily accessible, mine is very hard to reach. 😢. Wouldn’t you be better taking the taps off after the sink is removed?

Why did you take the taps off when you were removing the basin anyway.

He probably collects the scrap brass and copper and sells it as scrap as do most plumbers. Scrap merchants don't want your porcelain basin 😉

Why wouldn't you take the basin off after disconnecting the pipe,s, then take the taps off with the basin is on the bench?

Can you show that trap in a close up
They don’t have positive lock on drywall screws, because they maker special dimple heads. They will set and release the screw just at or below the surface of the wall board. This allows a pro to install a room with an automated screw gun, or by hand much quicker as the tool handles the depth setting and then slip off the head of the screw.
The screw sits better in a ph2 aswell making it easier working over head
The philps head is supposed hold the plaster better than a pozi.

Watching the video further why didn't you cut the pipes from the beginning so you don't have to take out the flexors and also you taken out the basin why did you bother taking out the tabs

leave the faucet handles on waste of time to remove if your replacing whole lav.
Presumably PH2 for plasterboard, so the driver bit e.g.

Planning out the job in hand is the Holy Grail with regards to the finished product but with all those considerations there's always time to misplace your tools.... I keep mine in my pants but still have issues with the pencil, pipe cutter and pen knife fairy ps. love the tool porn

You are ok but your camera work is dreadful , your light has to be beside the camera mate, I didn’t see anything, you could have even switched the light on at least!
2:35 just because you "don't understand" doesn't make it stupid. Ignorant statement. Plaster and drywall screws are not structural screws so there made with specific threads to keep from "popping" like typical drywall nails without any shank. Drywall screws with coarse threads are meant for metal studs and there pitch are made to bite into the metal studs same applies to COARSE pitch and tapered drywall screws. Perhaps your using cheap china tooled and treated drywall screws where the material is flaking off or perhaps its user error where your not using a drywall/plaster bit to dimple and hold the drywall screw (usually magnetized) so your not holding the screw with your hand to set the screw. Now, try those things then rephrase your comment.
