Her motivation (outside of money) could be the need to stay relevant exacerbated by the fear if aging out of the game. Some artists conflate constantly working with being relevant. Thus, in their minds, to not work equates to being irrelevant; leading to them overcompensating/coping by overworking. Consequently, they end up doing a large *quantity* the same kind of art at the cost of the *quality* of the art; all in the effort to "stay relevant" via constantly working.
If actors can take a role in a single movie without worrying about future prospects, I don’t understand why a stand-alone series would be any different.
yes, i do get low key irritated when it feels like an actor is in too many project at the same time, either feels like 'the industry' is pushing them on to us, or I get annoyed because 'like, why can't they spread the wealth and hire other actors for some of these parts' you know there are so many looking for a job/break... also it helps with immersion, some roles work best if I'm not distracted by who the actor is and/or what else I just saw them in...
Oh the immersion thing is sooooo fkn true!! I gotta make a video about that!! It’s hard to picture a person in a role when you just watched them in 5 other things!
It's not just Kidman but many actors often associated with feature films have been gravitating to TV these days and I put the blame largely on the diminishing kinds of roles actors like Kidman would take. These kinds of roles are becoming even more common on TV.
o0:00min.s - Oh, no!? She's doing a video re: one of my favourite actresses of all time, and this is only my second video of hers after discovering such a wonderful channel... [Nail-Biting] o5:55min.s - *'Big Little Lies'* is an epic masterpiece that I've enjoyed since it debuted a decade ago. o8:30min.s - I want to see *'Heretic'* too!
Guys I’m telling you Meryl Streep is about to retire and Nicole Kidman is gearing up to take her place as “top older actress who gets cast in literally everything”
I liked 9 Perfect Strangers but I couldn’t get through The Perfect Couple. I didn’t actually notice she was in a lot of stuff but now that you mention it… lol. She really has!
I would honestly love a full video from you about network TV vs good TV. When I start a show and find out it was on a network, it's almost immediately evident!
That’s a good request, as there is a certain “je ne sais quoi.” Also, don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the substance!! I just needed to let it marinate a bit!!
He's gonna keep going until one of her kids can take the roles lol . Seriously though I don't like the idea that actors or film directors can just coast mainly because those projects are costing money that can go to projects that either got sidelined or to projects that they really could take a risk on. Like if they have money to throw away like that why not risk it on an untold story a new take on something, etc.?
Ya'll don't think she's taking roles away from actors that need work more than she does? She's an elite level A-list actress. Wtf does she need the work for? Um I can name tons of other great actresses who need the work and ya'll know it. Go back to Australia to work even though they probably can't afford her. She can go to other countries to work if the well is that dry here in the states. But the work here pays more...see what I mean? I think she's being greedy and the studios have gotten lazy and only want to use A-listers for roles. It's not a risk if they know her name will sell projects. This sucks for working actors all around!! An honestly, how entitled do you have to be to say, "oh, I only want to work with female directors?" The heck? you have actresses out here in these streets in California, in hollyweird who are hurtin' for work who will work with anybody! This is what my problem is with folks like Nicole and other upper eschelon actors who again, aren't hurting for money or work. They aren't thinking of helping the industry. They are pushing agendas and don't give two craps about the average working class actor who need the work. If I was a man, I wouldn't want to work with her. She's discriminating against male actors, right? As if working class men in the industry aren't hurting either. You guys are so misguided about these top tier people in the industry. I'm honestly sick of them. They are a part of the problem in the industry. They aren't out here hurting but making it worse. For their own greedy purposes and for their own political agendas.
As you said she's an A lister, which means that if she didn't take these roles they would go to other A listers or upper B listers, they're not struggling to make rent so who gives a f*ck. The notion that once you reach a certain level of wealth you need to stop working is some commie BS. Do you understand that many of these projects wouldn't get green lit with an unknown actor as the lead?
I don’t know what I said that made you think I don’t agree with “there are other actors out there.” It’s kind of the whole point of the video, without me bashing her. I agree, there are tons of other actors who want and NEED the work and I think they should get it. She’s just pushing out slop at this point. But as far as her working with female directors, this is extremely important because of all directors, only about 6% are women. It’s just not fair! Women-led projects just don’t get made. She’s trying to change that and I have to give props where it’s do, especially considering I’m a female director myself.
Yo! I just watched 9 Perfect Strangers (because it featured Regina Hall and Bobby Cannavale) and thought why does she keep getting lead roles? I find her so dull.
i'm sorry but she was excellent in big little lies. she stopped trying afterwards ( i've seen all of her following projects except 9 perfect strangers). even in the northman she wasn't doing anything!!! it was startling because ,especially in their scenes, alex skarsgaard had to do everything and that was not the case for biglittlelies. very disappointing!
I remember really liking Big Little Lies , but mostly cause of Shailene Woodley if I’m being honest. 9 Perfect Strangers was cheesy but a fun whodunnit.
She's doesn't need the money. Hollywood just loves to play favorites. She's been a favorite for decades. Hollywood is a club, and you ain't getting in unless they want you to. It's not about talent and hard work at all.
Kidman isn't the kind of actor whom I see needs the money. Truth to be told the kinds of roles that an actor like Kidman would take is becoming more common in TV and diminishing in feature films. Even Harrison Ford an actor you normally wouldn't normally associate with TV has made the transition to the medium.
I thought I was crazy, glad other people have noticed 😂😂😂
I really thought it was just me! 😂😂
She's already the face of AMC theaters.

Damn, smashed it!! I think you are right. And Hollywood is particularly cruel to older actresses, so I can definitely see this!

Well as you heard in the video hopefully, they said that these days it’s easier to get a series made rather than a movie!!!

😂😂 would you say she’s in Meryl Streep level acting? I feel she’s more of a chameleon.

You are asking the right questions!!! They’re spending $50M on a series and story no one gives af about.
