The Pointer - Pet Dog Documentary English

The Pointer, often called the English Pointer, is a medium to large-sized breed of dog developed in England as a gun dog. It is one of several pointing breeds.
Character: It is an active dog, strong, resilient and rapid. It needs to be exercised.
Particularity: Because of its exceptional speed (60 Kph) it is the right breed for hunting the great expanses of lowland. -

We have an English Pointer black and white mix. He looks identical to the breed but without the slightly upturned nose. Although I read not all pointers have it. He runs between 25-30 mph and is happiest in fields and woods where he can run free. Very affectionate and protective of his family. Great family dogs and very smart but will require a lot of exercise or they will chew things up in the home. We are totally in love with ours.

If you had read Arkwright you would have know he was against the dog shows which were proponents of crossing the pointers with fox hounds just for the appearance. It ruined the working pointers because they ran differently and didn’t back. There were party colored pointers before the fox hound incursion. They were called pie bald. The dog brought back from Spain/ Portugal was known as the partridge dog of Navarre. It was short haired, large, slow working, & bad tempered.
