I don't care what anyone says, these were the best machines ever back in the day, What I wouldn't give to own a set like this again!!! What a great video to watch and I hope you make more??? I just can't believe how beautiful this set looks for it's age...
@@DesertLaundrygreat video I miss my moms lady Kenmore hers was from the 60s black roto swirl agitator and black alphabet cycle selector. Can you do a wash using the wash n wear cycle. Does this machine do an intermittent fill and drain?.
that annoys the absolutely crap out of me... and those same people who do that will complain their machines are designed badly and they smell bad or die early
Mannnn....what a gorgeous set! Incredible turnover, beautiful design. The transmission shifts/cycle changes like 58:51 and 1:04:50 are *chefs kiss* Thanks for posting!
Wow, what a fantastic video of such beautiful machines! The Sears and Whirlpool engineers of that era definitely knew what they were doing! Thank you for sharing.
If I remember correctly, some of the Last Kenmore washers in the early 70’s had the Vari-Flex agitator that came in them. Offered at least a dozen or so levels of agitation since the fins could either be extended of shorted by pulling up and turning the agitator to ‘Lo’ or ‘Hi’. Also believe the early Lady Kenmores were virtually the same, but had the smaller capacity tub, similar to the one in my ‘63 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII.
I like the slow powerful sound here in Denmark 50-55 years ago it was a washing machine with the name ferm and other brands where you also loaded the clothes from above but had the same quiet sound we had one in my childhood home I still remember it
The bleach dispenser solenoid clicks open just after 43:40, with 4 minutes remaining in the wash. I grew up with a very similar machine, a 1975 Sears Kenmore 800, also harvest gold, but with the roto swirl agitator.
I actually think this is one of the best features of this machine compared to other TLs that just have the bleach dispenser connected directly to the tub with no delay.
Fantastic, we had the same set when I was a kid, but in white...... Sounds exactly the same and does the long pauses before spinning. My Mother thought it was broken when we first got it because our first washer used to spin with the tub completely full and no pauses ! LOL ! Serviceman said, this is how it works !
Seems to be functioning exceptionally well. Interestingly enough, my Whirlpool Mark XII dispenses the bleach at the last 4 minutes of the main wash as well, always did a phenomenal job on getting whites cleaned. The matching dryer has a moisture sensor I assume, I imagine that Kenmore dryer must work much, much better that the Speed Queen dryer it replaced.
Hi Sean. Yes, these machines do seem to be working well. The dryer does indeed have a moisture sensor and it's much more accurate/foolproof than the Speed Queen dryer's thermostatic auto dry. Having said that, they both dry very well.
@@DesertLaundry I think (I think) some of the higher end Speed Queen dryers (at least the ones with the electronic dry control) have both a moisture sensor and a thermostatic auto dry. I believe it goes by the thermostat for most normal loads, possibly only uses the moisture sensor for things like delicates and such. My Maytag DG407 has the thermostatic auto dry, seems to work surprisingly well since I usually set the dryness all the way up, everything comes out perfectly dried. Maybe smaller loads may have bit a little damp to the touch but are otherwise mostly dried. Willing to be the customized Maytag dryer I’ve been putting together since this spring will be a bit more accurate with the 408 timer I installed recently, can’t use it at the moment since everything isn’t quite hooked up, waiting for the double throw switch thermostats to arrive.
I always wondered what happens inside a washingmachine machine when I was a kid. And inside a dryer 😂. I used to think I could be washed and dried. I did a dryer ride years back though.
That seems like quite a lot of detergent, even for a non-HE machine. Ideally I'd want water to run clear by the final rinse. But it's definitely true that washing machines used to be built a lot better than they are now.
Aren't the pumps on modern machines designed to handle only He detergent? So, even though copious amounts of detergent were used here, that old Kenmore should be able to excrete it out a bit better🤓.
No one is forcing you to watch it. But thanks for the comment - it’s always nice to have a negative comment like yours to balance all the other overwhelmingly positive comments from those who appreciate the video.
Even with the slow agitation, those garments were getting more cleaning action from this machine than they would from the joke washing machines of today.
My mom had one and it lasted over 50 yrs. I really miss Sears I worked there when I was 16. I don’t even know if you can buy kenmore washers anymore. Does anyone know?
Hi Scott. Your grandmother was a privileged lady to have had this wonderful set! They're not worth thousands (I wish!) but I if I ever decide to sell, I'll be sure to let you know.
@@DesertLaundry she loved them and wouldn’t let people use them as they so reload or damage them she said. Then, at her passing….. they were taken. Stolen from me, as she wanted them to go to me as I cared for them the last few decades. Anyways, I’ve been looking for this set since then 🥹

@@DesertLaundryone question I noticed the machine had slow agitation on the cotton and linen s setting My moms machine would have normal agitation on the cotton and linens cycle
@@bob3782 It does slow agitation during the soak and prewash and then fast agitation for the main wash and rinses. Pressing "custom care" results in slow agitation throughout but still with a fast spin.
I have a question: Ok, so remember back then this was considered a FULL size washer.... so you know those small front load washers you can buy now... I think they're like 2.6 cubic feet? Would they hold the same amount of laundry as this would? I'm thinking it would be about the same because it has no agitator.

Vari-Flex agitator has four positions, so 12 effective agitation speeds when coupled with a 3-speed motor.
I Had One With The Vari-Flex Agitator Too But I Would Lock The Agitator Before I Would Adjust The Fins
The sound of that motor and transmission, the roll over omg

I always run my water half way then add detergent then clothes. I learned that from my wife when I first married her.

You need a 74' Chrysler Imperial to go with that pair,,,, the Imperial has woodgrained everything as well !!! :)
