Amazing ingenuity, engineering, design. I would love to have been in the board room when it was proposed "Ok, hear us out: An agitator that goes up and down instead of side-to-side." 🌟
I absolutely hate today’s washers. I often look at them when I’m at Lowe’s or somewhere that sells washers, and I can’t believe they make it to someone’s house without crumbling on the delivery truck.
@ the washers sold at Lowe’s & Home Depot are crappy. The sell Samsung & LG & Amana which use to a good one but whirlpool owns them & a few others. I currently own a set from Bosch & never once had absolutely no issues or problems. I’ve had them since 06 . Still going strong 💪. My next one would be a Speed Queen . Those are better than Samsung ect . Yes you’ll pay more but you get a better warranty. You name it . Personally I’d much prefer a vintage machine.
@@robertwhite9898 we are in an area of fairly new homes, and every week there is a samsung washer sitting on the curb for junk pickup..some of the worst machines made
This to me this is definitely the peak of their 1950s designs. The 58 59 and 60 are some of the most beautiful looking machines GM Frigidaire produced.
This is a remarkable, well-constructed machine😱. I have never encountered productivity in any washing machine I have purchased starting the late 1960s. What an extraordinary home appliance!!! Since 1959, it still cleans and disinfects dirty clothes far better than the newer models today. My compliments👏😁 to the owner who takes great care in keeping this Frigidaire machine running continuously.
Whoever their industrial designers were.. the people who designed the look and feel of their products like the knobs, switches, panels, and the like.. were geniuses. We had a '62 Frigidaire Custom Deluxe (Cookmaster?) electric stove. As a kid, I studied its design, because it was special. Beautiful stuff, the appliances of that era.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤EXTREMELY EXCELLENT WASHING ACTION!! EXCELLENT ROLLOVER! EVERYTHING STAYS UNDER THE WATER!! TODAYS HE MACHINES DO NOT EVEN HARDLY USE ANY WATER AND DO NOT WASH WELL AT TIME! THIS MACHINE IS AWESOME AND AMAZING! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@bryonpike2361 It's a solid tub, so not anywhere near as much water as in the tubs with perforations and an outer tub. The water is slung out, over the tub into the outer tub (empty up until then) from where it is pumped out at the regular pace. The pump is always running on these.
Interesting, now I’m curious how a reciprocating agitator compares to an oscillating agitator. Can’t beat these old mechanically timed machines. Yes they use more water but you don’t end up having to replace the machine every 10 years or so.
I have a question, considering this machine has a solid wall tub just how dry is it able to spin out the laundry? I'm assuming the 850 rpm spin speed is really necessary because the water has to first reach the wall of the tub then work it's way up to the top to get spun out. It sure looks a lot faster then 850 on the video. Also I have to say look how elegantly this machine is designed! It's beautiful. Then look at a modern machine and see how far we have regressed in machine styling. Current top loaders are just stamped steel with screen printed info around the knobs. It's about as cheap to manufacture as you can get.
We have one. Very dry. Actually, the water is spun out very early in the spin, far before it comes up to speed. Frigidaire used the fast spin speed as marketing and it also helped a lot with their slower-than-every other brand dryer design. These washers clean like nothing else, especially really filthy dirty clothes.
Ah the 50s and 60s....where simple appliances had the model names you could easily use for a luxury car. "Buy the new Lincoln Custom Imperial with Ford´s all new 1959 Multimatic transmission! It shifts so smooth you will feel like you are sitting on a washing machine."🤣
Try to get any appliance except maybe the Speed Queen to last that long, you'd be lucky if it goes past ten years. I just recently bought a new set and it's the fourth set in twenty four years, so it seems none of those Whirlpools lasted more than six years on average. I like this style of agitator because the clothes tumble from bottom to top so you know they're getting clean. I had a whirlpool that had the agitator plate, HATED IT! Big bulky items never seemed to get clean and it didn't really agitate, it just spun the clothes around...WHAT A STUPID CONCEPT!
The fact that it operates with the lid open - pure genius! Watching this is like watching a fireplace, just so relaxing and mesmerizing.

Tells you something about there washers . One word JUNK! From start to the curb
drum type machines work better

I would love to have this GM Frigidaire washer. Grew up with two, loved them both. Best machine other than Maytag.
Love the dramatic pause after the water fills.
This machine reminds me of my ex, good roll over action and can take a good load..

Wow, super effective washing and spin out action!
Welcome back!
It looks more modern than new washers. And it just oozes quality.

very cool machine!!!
With that agitator you can tell those towels will be CLEAN. Now they barely move the laundry around and definitely don’t make suds
How did that tub full of water empty out so fast?!?
Amazing!
Curious about this, too

One reason is the tub size is very small as compared to later machines. Not as much water to drain.
i remember these as a child in the late 1960s, wash so much better than the crap being made today, and just as quiet..
So that's why grandma said women loved to sit on the washing machine back in the day.
IIRC, the older models had an agitator with a more 'space age', aerodynamic design.... If you catch my drift.
id love to see the inner workings of the washer

Looks like that will be a two ring agitator very soon with all of those cracks and splits in the top ring.

Still use a gm fridgeaire window ac and cook on a ge p-7 electric range.

Beautiful machine. What happens when the rubber bellows crack fully? Can you get a NOS rubber assembly?
Hey GSO what’s up? Got an email or website to ask few questions about your machines?
Another design of a washing machine that should never have been discontinued. Of course the government would never allow these today.
Since when did we let the government dictate we can have ? We have to make them remember that they work for us the taxpayers.
HE Detergents should be used in this machine with its very vigorous agitation.

Where do I find one? Would love a matched set 😊
My mother had one of these and she said it got clothes cleaner than any other washer she’s ever had.
I had a 1961 model. The rear agitator was NLA. I ran it until the internet was made.
Nice washy
Thats wayy too much water should be atleast 25-30 percent less . SAVE WATER
last I checked, evaporation is still a thing. Just as much water on the planet now as after the flood

Made when Americans knew how to even build a washing machine! This new junk on the market that may last a few years cannot even get clothes clean!
The overflow rinse had too much water!
It's designed that way as it must pump out at the same time
Wrong. It's called overflow because that is how it works. Unlike the trash sold today, it actually rinsed the clothes clean.
