Played goal for a group of roller hockey players for a few summers a couple years ago. It was an outdoor rink and the surface was indeed pavement. I wore my old gear and I actually sprayed a shit ton of Jig-A-Loo lubricant on my pads (specially on the interior sides and knee pads for butterfly) and it actually worked pretty decently. Once in butterfly I could actually slide 2-3 inches. Going in butterfly on pavement was super hard on the knees though, so I wore volleyball knee pads AND hockey goalie knee pads under my pads. It was like a big cushion. It was awkward at first but once I got used to it, I can say I had a considerable advantage over the opposing goalies because I was playing 100% butterfly style on pavement.
I wouldn't recommend it.... For environmental and health safety reasons, the State of California has banned the use of perchloroethylene and methylene chloride in multi-purpose lubricants such as Jig-A-Loo Dec 31, 2010 and the sale of remaining inventory will be banned effective Dec 31, 2013.
Learning the game in Arizona in the 90's (before Matthews was out of diapers) in handyman-converted basketball courts/rinks...the water advise hits close to home
Hahahahaha, too funny, i was a street hockey goalie back in the early 80's in the Dorchester neighborhood just south of Boston and it was more like going to a fight and a street hockey game broke out ROLMFBO👊🏒🥅👊
I’m playing ball hockey tomorrow, went over to my parents garage and grabbed my old P4’s my dad couldn’t sell online. Couple hours later I’m watching this and lost my shit at that part of the video about the P3’s.
You sir, have just redesigned our hockey association's standard water bottles. Probably need a new carrier, and back braces for the coach carrying 6 of those in. We'll also be able to combine water boarding resistance training like in SERE school with the 8U/10U/12U levels. So we'll be able to incorporate mental hardening every water break. If you got a tip on the back of the net bottle holder for one of those that would be great. Suggestion for another video: How to create new innovative goalie training equipment and gain huge cash flow$$.
I play at a very high level of ball/dek hockey. Concrete I never play on. Only tile or sport court. You can still slide if you have rollerflys. Lemmie say, for you goalies who play ball/dek and don't use sliders, GET EM. They improve your game tremendously. Just stay away from concrete all together.
Or just get a cheap set of mylec street hockey pads, no worries about ruining any pads. Its street hockey, I never wore my league pads, the chest protector, helmet or throat guard. Only wore a 20yr old pair of goalie pants, a players shoulder pads in the summer (really old light chest protector during the winter nights), and a street hockey goalie helmet. Never overheated during the summer, usually had frozen toes in the winter nights.
How to play pond hockey in summer- trust me it’s possible, the right amount of dedication is needed
