Well what a sweet running engine. Your openness and honesty goes miles to showing the type of person you are, definitely one I would trust if we weren't so many miles apart. These days with editing videos you just do not know what is real when you watch it. However this channel is one to watch with confidence and BELIEVE what you see. Your channel is without question one of my favourites to watch on YT along with Jonathan W (god I can't wait for him to start that engine). Your videos have got so much better both in quality and length. Keep up the great work and thanks for the time and effort involved in sharing and making the videos
thank you for that. i am not interested in doing "fake videos". i will trump that with good honest videos....i appreciate that this is being recognized. people like yourself and others who appreciate the effort makes it all worth it. i am with you j.w. is getting close! he is another one who isnt afraid to show mistakes. ada boy j.w.
J.C. SMITH PROJECTS I forgot too add that the added humour In the videos also makes the videos very entertaining. If you could send me as link to where you bought the air powered torque wrench it would be appreciated as it looks awesome, the way out clicks off is amazing at just the correct setting. .Keep it up JC
i am really a big goof...i hold back alot! that is a very special torque wrench.....it comes in 3 sizes 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" but they need to be plugged into an air hose to be calibrated.
2 things we are all so smart after the event. 2 you are not a shop thay pout it under the carpet and give the bill to the customer you are a man with miles
All these trucks you work on, you need a top side creeper . My son bought one and it sure is handy for pulling injection lines or spark plugs and and you don't have to lay on the grill or core support.
If you every have the opportunity to get a hold of a WDS with some of the latest updates or that can be updated at a good price ( to you ) it can save you so much time and money diagnosing electrical, ignition, programing keys, modals, cpus ect ect. I used to see them on Ebay but I couldn't justify the price to use once or twice around the home personally every year or three. But where you do a lot of Fords you may weigh that factor. There is also a NGS that works great for about 1200 bucks but is much less useful in diagnosing electrical and I'm not sure if it's even compatible with the newer vehicles either they were wanting to go to WDS and laptop based software. Keep up the great work there's nothing wrong with the way you're getting to the end result it's very neat, professional and I've seen nothing that doesn't look as it should. I've seen so many just hacked together then again so many more just torn all to pieces just to be given up on and none of them as complicated as what you're working on. Have a great blessed day.
thanks for those kind words. i have a snap on scanner that is up to date and a laptop with medium duty software. in this case i didnt follow my normal procedure. what threw me off what i would normally do was the fact i heard a valve train rattle.....then it had a miss. i should have looked at the scanner, isolated the cylinder, check for injector pulse, check for signal to the coil, pulled the coil and tested with a tester spark plug. if all that was good, i should have pulled the plug, inspect (and found it was gas fouled) replaced the plug. check compression on that cylinder and a leak down test. if all was good...reassemble and go from there. i am thankful it was only a plug. the valve train rattle was a lash adjuster that had not pumped up completely.
I understand that sometimes we get paranoid or ahead of ourselves on the bigger jobs. I just thought you might be interested in looking at the WDS to keep your reprogramming after switching cpus, dashes or instrument clusters in house if you do many of them.
thank you . these fords i have been doing are projects i bought years ago and finally got to work on them....you tube can be very motivating! before this i would need programming once or twice a year. i did look into at one time but like you i couldnt justify the cost for as much as i might use it. the company i use to do the reprogramming comes to me and charges $100. they are always up to date. plus they are constantly doing training . they also sell, cut and program the keys for me. so i use them a decent amount.
You can't beat that price at all, the last keys I got I just used ACE hardware it was a good price I was worried it wouldn't work or the key would be very good but so far no problems they just copy one of already programed keys but that doesn't help unless you are already running, I only needed a second.key. On Fords if you have two keys you can do a third one yourself by just cycling two programed keys in the ignition then the one needing programmed last or could up to 05 anyways not sure after that but as long as you have two you're good to go in most cases as far as getting into the system.
I love a guy that can use his impact gun the way it was designed .. only thing I actually torque is rods mains and heads myself .. glad to see that not everyone is "torque correct" lol .. good channel I been watching . Keep it up
Speaking of Cummins conversions.. I'm looking for a a 4x4 auto trans dually truck to swap in a 6bt and build a wrecker out of. I had my eye on a 2003 f350 with blown up 6.0 but it was too rusty. Any suggestions where to find a good truck to start with? I don't wanna spend much if it's mostly worn out truck
east, west, north, south, central. i can probably point you in a direction. if you want a rust free truck, i have several friends in the south that i buy from and have shipped here.
i dont know anyone in that area...however, i would look at the auto auctions. they typically have a "repo" auction that is open to the public. most of the superduty trucks with bad engine go reasonable at these sales.
if you have a 2008 f250 it is a 6.4l. the 6.0 ran from 2003-2007 and from 2008-2010 was a 6.4l. the v8 in the mountaineer will be a tight fit in the narrow engine compartment of the lat 40's-early 50's trucks. i will be trimming the inner fenders considerably.
might be worth a Cummins swap and market the mounts you fabricate I bet they would sell good. I know a lot of people that would love swap a Cummins in a 550
you are right. the mounts are the easiest part of the conversion. the transmission is fairly simple to have a stand alone computer programmed to run it. the real problem solving for me comes down to making everything work properly. i mean all the gauges, air conditioning, cruise control, and so on. the start circuit it run by the ecm in these trucks. once you turn the key into the start position, you release the key and the ecm cranks the engine until it sees it is running or it times out. somethings like that will need figured out....not particularly difficult but time consuming. if i do a swap i will make a video series of it.
Hmmm, does Ford sell a 550 with their (V8?) diesel engine? If so, just put the plans for the mounts and the videos of the conversion out. Many people who want to go diesel from gasoline don't know good engines from bad (like me).
ford uses their own design 6.7L diesel in the 2011 and newer ford trucks. many people like the new 6.7. i have seen many with catastrophic failure....possibly the nature of the business they were used for.

Great job! I'd let you work on my stuff anytime. Your one of the best "heavy" mechanics I've ever seen.
Thanks 👍

i think you are right. i should get one. i work on more medium duty trucks with tilt hoods than anything but a top side creeper would be handy.

Oscilloscope readings are important to
I'm glad to see you got your project done but I can't wait to see Jonathan's homemade engine finished and running
i have been watching those videos also....he is getting close!
Well done, glad you found the gremlin and resolved the problem.
That is 1 nice truck.
2 thumbs up from here.
thanks. i appreciate. that is what i call them.....gremlins!

That was fun watching it run with no covers :)

where are you located?
Pennsylvania
east, west, north, south, central. i can probably point you in a direction. if you want a rust free truck, i have several friends in the south that i buy from and have shipped here.
A little north of Baltimore
i dont know anyone in that area...however, i would look at the auto auctions. they typically have a "repo" auction that is open to the public. most of the superduty trucks with bad engine go reasonable at these sales.
good to here there was no major issues. if you do get that topside creeper, it deserves a video. keep up the good work and videos
good idea my friend!
enjoyed the video on the awd explorer. i have a 46 ford 1 ton & a 08 f250 6.0,that really look cool if they"ll match up.

In some places, that's called Systems Engineering.

Great video hard work pays off in the end
you dont miss a video! thanks for watching tim! your loyalty does not go un-noticed!
Got the rear slung up to lower the front? I've done that as well.
What scanner do you use of the snap on scanner
Very nice correct rebuild
thank you david and thanks for watching.
It better be safe than sorry later
Good job.
thanks for watching!
There are cheaper scanners of good quality. Autel, actron, ancel, launch, foxwell, and more.
Ok
