Good summarization. I've got a 2000 v10 as well, bought it two years ago with 171k, and it has 193k today. Just got back from a 4k mile road trip, slept in the back with a full mattress and didn't have any issues. I've done a lot of what you have, except I didn't put the 6.0 cooler, just got a new rad with the trans fluid cooler loop (mine is an early model that didn't have the rad trans fluid cooling). I don't tow with mine very often though, but at least the v10 cooler is larger than the 7.3 trans cooler. One tip is, if you have a hard 2-3 shift, you may have a busted accumulator spring. I got a shift kit and replaced the springs in a couple hours and it fixed my hard shifting. I replaced my PCV valve when I got it but I still burn a little oil. I would recommend checking every fill-up, it only takes a couple mins. These v10s are pretty well known for burning a little oil - Ford even says there is no issue as long as it is under 1qt/1k miles. I end up adding maybe 1.5 quarts/3k miles. I've been doing 3k oil changes with Motorcraft semi-synth 5w30 and motorcraft filter for what it's worth. I get around 10-11mpg all city driving, 15mpg on the road trip. You're lucky it came with those tires and mirrors. I had the paddle mirrors and put in the '08 style tow mirrors. They offer a little more visibility, but the older ones are pretty good too. I love this vehicle too - it does everything you could ever need. A super duty truck that can seat a family of 8, tow 10k lb no problem, or can remove all the seats and camp out it in with a 8in full size mattress like I did a few weeks ago! I've also used it a lot to move large items, like a full squat rack w/o disassembly - with the SUV you don't have to worry about cargo getting wet in rain or someone messing with your stuff when you park. Hoping I can take care of this for a while - not sure anything can replace this! With my Excursion and my fiancee's 99 Camry we should be set for quite a while :)
I love when people think getting these SPECIAL/ EXPENSIVE spark plugs they think they're the shit..... more like shit-ty. Recommended spark plugs ALL THE TIME!
@@mercedesbenzs600bash It needed quite a bit, but just standard stuff really. You will fix more on a 3V V10 than a Powerstroke. Both engines are very incredible but the Powerstroke isn't even a comparison, they have twice the torque and are the elite, espiecally the 7.3L. The 3V V10 is for 2003-2008.The 2V V10 is 1997-2003.
Great looking Rig Matthew. I'm looking at a 2000 with 265K miles so I'm weary of buying it due to the high miles, I want to know if they are easy to work/repair yourself? I'm also worried about the timing chain because I believe these v10 are interference engines.
These V10 can go to 300k easy with good Maintenance but 265k is alot of miles... I would pay a little more and get a lower miles truck V10 is very easy to work on But it has a few Flaws like all other engines (1) spark plug holes blow out they make a time sert kit (2) Exhaust manifold bolts they make a kit to fix it too (3) Can use oil "burner" Replace pcv vavle and a oil additive helps too
265,000 Miles is nothing for a 5.4L and 6.8L. My 5.4L F-350 had 297,000 Miles.I have seen the 6.8L V10 with over 380,000 Miles, even though I have seen the 5.4L V8 with much more. But they are awkward yet incredible Engines.
Fords V10 shallow spark plug in the Cylinder heads...... Over Torgue wont fix anything......... After the spark plug spits out nothing you can do but Time-Sert it you can buy a kit "Google it" The reason why I went 25lbs instead of 14lbs is to help the spark plug from backing it's way out of the hole over time My Original Motorcraft spark plugs out of 10 (4) were loose less then had tight...
The ford V10 is very reliable but it has a few problems Exhaust manifold studs snap & strip spark plugs in the cylinder head Like all used cars take it for a long road test check oil level check transmission fluid color coolant make sure it clean green Good luck
