This was the favorite song from an old friend from me that died like 10 years now. His name was Phillip from England, im from Costa Rica. Well, like a tribute to him I post this comment to remember his memory. RIP my old friend. I wish he could listen this song again someday.
in 2002 I was in my first year of College at the University of Texas( born and raised in Texas). I have a friend who's new roomate is a Scottish exchange student named Eddie. We introduce Eddie to Tequila as well as Screwed and Chopped music which was really coming up in Texas at the time. One night Eddie busts out The Streets: Original pirate material. We fell in love with this shit. His cadence, his rapping from his own culture, and truly taking something and making it his own just blew us away. Thanks to that crazy Scottish bastard there was at least one group of kids rolling around Austin, Tx in 2002 banging screwed and chopped albums on their stereos as well as The streets. Big Ups Ed!
My Brit friend and neighbor introduced me, an American, to The Streets back in the day when I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall. This was heavy in the rotation when we'd pregame before hitting the nightlife in Cambridge. I hadn't listened to it in forever, till it popped in my head today for some reason. Now taking an awesome trip down memory lane. Good shit.
Randomly heard this coming from a car the other day and gave the dude a nod, he smiled and drove away as we just telepathically acknowledged greatness!! It's a shame that Mike Skinner isn't as known in the Hip Hop community as he should be in The US. Been bumpin The Streets in America since 02 and still learning British slang from Mike! The first two albums are absolute masterpieces!! *Get to the beat, loosen up, it's The Streets*
Seems like very far into the past now. Do young lads these days sit around in a cafe on a Sunday morning hanging like fuck trying to remember what went down last night?
I will never NEVER EVER EVER STOP LOVING THESE CUTIES. The album is a truth to life story lol.... They created something WELL BEFORE THERE TIME! AMAZING.Always cheer me up!
@@younginsane90 i agree, CDs had been around for about 10 years. 2003 was about a year or 2 before limewire came along, my friend used to make mixtapes instead of mix CDs at the time. He made a mix tape with this on it

People be salty when someone speaks the truth , but the fact is the song is trash lol I mean really trash. Why would anybody share it ? Why would youtube recommend this ? Dude is lucky he got as many views as he has thanks to reddit lol
I went to watch the streets at Brixton academy years ago , waiting in line and got told there was a power cut !!! Gutted was an understatement I’ve been listening to them most of my life ......underrated
I’m dead serious but this accurately captures a generation on levels which homer captured Troy. I’d go as far to call this a timeless folk song Fucking banger too
This reminds me of the best days when there was a gang of maybe ten of us heading out on a Saturday night, then re-grouping on Sunday for the post-mortem. Sunday was usually the better night of the two!
We had a friend called “Dean Sing” and every time the chorus came on we would say “Dean” before Mike said “Sing”. Haha… When life was fun, dumb and carefree
Thank you for the advice. Coming from a long term relationship and forgetting all the right things you should and shouldn't do with new dates. This could not have come at a better time. Thank you Mr. Skinner!

Dope story. Was in upstate NY freshman year college interesting times for music!
The way Mike sets a scene with his lyrics so well almost renders this video irrelevant.
We already saw it in our heads just the same!
Mike Skinner is a fucking genius.
quote from an English teacher in the year 3097
Seriously! Its like the way movies made from books never live up to the source material.
So true, this is a masterpiece
Rediscovering this banger in 2023 feels like running into an old friend, no drama, just vibes

Every time I've gone to see the Eels with my wife it has been like that. Personal and intimate feeling.... 🥰
Same, Glastonbury 2019

Just such an incredible story teller of the day to day. To be able to comment so well on society and life at such a young age still blows my mind.

There’s no place for this banger in the European Union
The irony is that Mike has said he wants to remain and hates brexit

Is that because you are from another country and hate brits or something much smaller?
