In an age where emotion is surpressed, hate maybe all you have left. And, it was actively promoted.
Daily two minutes hate for party members.
I much prefer Terry Gilliam's Brazil. It has much more nuance. And Tory relevance.

PLEASE, you, and EVERYONE, if you haven't already, embrace the One True Only God YHWH Jehovah, Only One Jesus Christ His Only Begotten Son and Lord and Savior of our souls and the Only One Holy Spirit. God is good. God is love. Jesus is Lord. Jesus IS coming. Your soul depends on it!
I have seen God act in my life. He saved my soul, changed my heart, changed my mind, helped people through me, took care of people in my life, people I hurt before I found God. God is the only reason I was able to reconcile with my dad before he died.
God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. Be baptized in The Holy Spirit, and if He wills, water as well. Repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart, that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him.
Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible.
The Holy Bible says, "love thy enemy", "turn the other cheek", "If your enemy is hungry, feed him", "if he is thirsty, give him a drink", "pray for those who persecute you", "do not repay evil for evil".
LORD willing, all humans may commit sin of almost every kind (gay, straight), and that's wrong, and all humans sin, as God tells us through the The Holy Bible, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." The Holy Bible also says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

If you grew up in "a community where there was no tolerance for hate", then you grew up in a cult. It's just that simple. Because the reality of the situation is that "no tolerance" is, in fact, the DEFINITION of hate. Therefore, you are living a delusion.

Hatred feels warm and exciting, and it can really bring people together. It can make existence feel explicable and meaningful rather than empty and bewildering. It can drive action and fuel creativity.
But unfortunately it tends to result in bad decision making.

A long time ago I was in a band, or more accurately a duo, with this guy. For years he was my best friend, I saw him literally every day for at least 2 or 3 years, and probably didn’t go longer than a week without seeing him for 6 or 7. He became close family, his parents were awful to him, and he pretty much lived with me and mine, when we were in our late teens. In our early twenties we moved to the city together. I was there for him through heartbreaks, failures, being kicked out of his childhood home, a lot of shit.
Then he (allegedly, it’s complicated) fell in love with my girlfriend at the time. It made things awkward, I appreciated his being open about it, I understood, we all spent a lot of time together, and she was a great person, but it made things difficult. It didn’t stop being a problem for a couple of years. We reached the point where the band was breaking up for other reasons, and he decided to insinuate that she had cheated on me with him, which I knew wasn’t true. I wracked my brain for reasons he could be doing it, but there was nothing, the band was dead, getting her out of the picture with me wasn’t going to do anything. It was just self destructive. He just wanted to hurt me, to destroy her reputation. He made it so that she didn’t feel comfortable with our friends anymore.
I hated him after that. I was consumed with hatred, for at least two or three years. I couldn’t go a day without thinking about how much I hated him. I took tremendous joy from his suffering.
I have forgiven him, since. We are even friends again. I recognise that what he did is the behaviour of a deeply broken person, and I feel bad for him, if anything. But I could never, ever trust him again. Not like I did.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. The only person I ever truly hated was my old english-teacher from class 5 and onwards. In every other instance I've found explanations over time, grew to understand that perhaps I myself wasn't the easiest person to deal with, and thus I managed to gradually let go and think favourably of nearly every peer I ever had. This one woman was a psychopath though and undoubtedly a bit of a sadist. Without a trace of doubt she manipulated my surroundings in order to isolate me, deprive me of friends and make life as hard for me as she possibly could. I think the key difference is the age-gap. I was a boy of 10 and she was probably approaching 50. In such situations, growing older only enhances your understanding of what was going on, how it could and quite possibly why (psychopathy and sadism). You also develop an increasingly better understanding of how unjust it truly was and while I rarely ever think about this person, I know, without a trace of doubt, that I would not lend a hand, no matter what kind of peril I find her in. It's the kind of feeling that "in the air tonight" is all about - the song expresses it far better than I ever could. If you've had such a thing happen to you, I wish to say that it doesn't need to dictate your life forever. It is like loss and certain forms of abuse. It may never truly disappear but you will learn to deal with it and live a fulfilling life regardless of it. You' may even find it easier to forgive other (lesser) offenses, when there's this one thing in your past that overshadows anything that anyone could ever throw at you. You become hardened, in a way, but not necessarily unkind or aggressive.

If you try to take a bear cub do you think “I’m really controlling the mother bear now” as you hide on the top of a tree? They have a reaction yes, but giving someone a reaction and controlling them are two separate things.

you can argue these things aren't motivated by hate. moreso they are motivated by instinct to remove a threat to their existence and perpetuation. and removing threats is a natural fixture of society, that's why laws exist, but you don't need to have hate to remove a threat, or even to kill.

Very sadly, I do hate some people. They wronged me deeply, abandoned & hurt me. I’ve spent years thinking ill of them, wondering if they understand or care how deeply they hurt me. They were my friends. The amount of time i’ve spent thinking about how much I hate them & ways I could try to make them suffer, that wasted time & mental space makes me more upset with them. It keeps me up at night. I have no way to contact them to offer a facetious forgiveness that flaunts their sins in their faces even. It’s so hard. If I could choose to not be this way I would. I became a father recently & yet part of my mind is still stuck on this betrayal. They turned a whole group of people against me. I’m not that bad, i’m just annoying & a bit obsessive & hardheaded, i have ASD. It’s made me doubt myself so deeply. What kind of person am I that my friends would abandon me? What kind of person am I that I would harbor such ill will & dark thoughts? At the least, I understand revenge now, & what motivates people to it.
They say the best revenge is living well, & I do not live well, which is all the worse

Hating people is definitely not worth it. Avoiding people most definitely is.
You only have so much energy to give to your life. Whatever you give in the negative, there’s just that much less available for the positive.
When someone gets you hating them, they’ve got you jammed up in a box.
Hanging on strings, dancing to the puppet master. If you must, leave them, learn from them, be thankful that you’re wiser for the wear.
As Bilbo Baggins once said, “An ill wind blows no good.”

It's a very fine line between love and hate, & of course many variations on this theme.
There are those that just love hating & vice versa, those that hate loving.
I don't think you can use the 'wants children' card due to the many different relationships we see nowadays & a loss of ones legs doesn't automatically mean the loss of ones vagina, a necessary piece of anatomy essential to the child making process. 😀

Distain, hatred's intelligent sibling, provides a socially acceptable venue for investment of creativity in exchange for increased status within one's preferred group. Hatred empowers leaders via unity. Distain profits users in proportion to their effective, creative input. Both are walls of delineation. Hatred's walls are like barbed wire while distain creates lovely hedges with prickly bits hidden in the foliage.

I think it's worth acknowledging and processing your hate. It's bad when you let it consume you, but once you get to the point where you can function in your own life again and get your own goals done, it's pretty much not a problem. I can say that there are some people I still hate, but it's not like I lose any sleep or any value in my waking life because my disdain for them exists.

My Dad hated his Dad so he killed him. Well, it was technically manslaughter but either way he got away with it. My Dad told me this on Christmas Eve 1987 and described what a bastard his Dad was but he ended his confession by saying "He was a canny kisser though."
We never spoke of it again.

    *Respectfully disagree.*
Hate is natural instinct and reaction to keep us safe from that which we may rightly or wrongly dislike, detest or have previously caused us real or imagined harm.
Having hate become one's raison d'etre OR thinking hate can ONLY be all consuming is infantile.

I once worked with a bloke who had too many abhorrent qualities to list out, however, after about a year of strongly disliking him it turned out that he had a keen interest in private Japanese shipyards of the early Showa era. And in an instant that revolting humanoid waste of organic matter became my best mate. Though he was a bit weird (the swine prefered Mitsubishi to Kawasaki, if you can imagine such a thing), it all became irrelevant.

I must admit, I hated a few people in my life. The most recent was a back stabbing colleague prone to Dunning Kruger effect that I had a couple of years ago. He resigned out of pride after making a massive blunder that cost me then employer money. I will confess, watching his career takinga nosedive afterwards made me feel good. But if I hated him, I know he hated me and others in the company more.

Since we live in a day and age where "hate speech" is actually a crime... i personality took it upon myself as an amateur writer, to compose a "litany of hate" with a placeholder made into it so anyone can just insert whoever they hate into, plug and play, and make a clear unapologetic hateful speech about them. Just to make it easier to break that law...

There's no one or nothing that I truly hate, but there are people and things that either anger me or make me miserable. I try to not engage with that either whenever it's not possible to channel those feelings into something useful, which is usually the case. Even the people who anger me aren't really *people*, since they're public figures or politicians who I don't know personally, so they're more ideas that represent some values than actual living people in my mind.

Great session as always. I would say most people use the word hate when they actually mean they dislike something or someone. True hatred, valid or not, is all consuming and difficult to control. So my two penneth on this is that most people rarely get to the point of all consuming hatred but most people will have very brief flashes of rage (often impotent rage)when experiencing a situation or situations that they really really dislike being forced into. IMO most people use the word hate the same way as they say “I had the Flu” when they’ve had a cold or that “the tv blew up “when it emitted a tiny phut sound and died.

The common element to the people I've hated is that they hurt me without remorse and never stopped trying to hurt me
My hate gave me the strength to keep them out of my life, and it was good for me
I still hate all of these people. But I don't dwell on it, it only exists quietly in forgotten corners keeping me safe from their return

Hate is good for you. Makes you strong if you know how to over come it. Too bad today people don't know how to deal with hate or anger, but it is so good when you know how to over come it and be it's master. Makes you so strong and and happy. I mastered mine and i never trusted myself and felt satisfaction like that before. Your emotions are you, control them and you achieve control over self like you never knew you could. It is first step to happiness imo.

Still, It occurred to mean that this was only affecting me, and not hating doesn't mean I have to trust or be friends again so I just stopped hating in a poof of apathy.

I remember many situations where me and someone else agreed on or made a deal - something involving just us - but someone overheard or found out what we were talking about, and they stepped in and "busted" the deal, for whatever reason (usually using non-nonsensical or ridiculous or circular logic). The real reason was that the 3rd person felt they were being disadvantaged somehow. And if they did bust the deal, it always turned out for the worse for me.

      Because they want attention.
Any kind of attention. And when you're hated and get lots of that kind of attention you like because you're a narcissistic egocentrist, then you can also make yourself into a victim. Which then makes you an underdog and gives you an excuse to spiral into endless self-pity/superiority complexes.
It's not pretty and happens far too often, these days.
