A little tidbit about how we shot this: Whenever things are looking positive for Victoria, she's framed on the right. Whenever they're looking bad, she's framed on the left.
was that her son she asked for? Me being a Father would have been way more emotional saying goodbye to my son. I would have tried to fight it and muted the walkie but there would be way more crying by a parent. Because you think about how your kid will not have you any more. I went through this when I was told I had cancer. I am good now but for a few weeks anytime I thought of my son it was instant moaning.
OH ALSO wicked good short!!! great acting and the environment was epic. I was there with her through it all. I wanted to see 2 hours of this, where is she, why is she???.
Ugh, so good. That ending was killer. I'll be honest my first response was upset that I didn't get resolution but then I calmed down and remembered that ambiguity is one of the most powerful motivators to be creative and that the ending really begged of you to decide what you believe would happen.
This was hard to watch. Not because it was bad, or slow, or anything like that.. it was hard to watch, because within 30 seconds I was in her place. When she started coughing blood, and especially pulling out her hair, i became sick to my stomach with fear. Phenomenal work, Joe, Jade, and all the other amazing people that put this together. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to creating something so immersive and poignant.
Hey Joe, was really sad that you stopped doing so many short skits and small projects. Finding out that this is what you been doing actually made me happy. loved the last short film and really hoping more movie-like content will come out. Ciao!
Just goes to show what you can do with limited money, a simple set, great writing, a director who knows how things move/change, and an actress with real acting chops. Bravo.
I loved every aspect of this short film. From the camera shots, to the makeup design and even the set design. I would love to see this film be made into a movie because there is a lot of story still missing here. Excellent job Joe and the team.
Just remember there are a LOT of devices out there that allow the watching of TH-cam but don't have a way to click thumbs up or even if they do it's not intuitive for most so they never learn how....
Hey language speakers out there! Could you help subtitle this video? :D th-cam.com/users/timedtext_video?v=nHN92cVgmm0 *Edit:* Woah, we're up to 33 languages... to all the peeps translating this, you guys are amazing! You're opening up this video for so many people who wouldn't be able to understand it otherwise!
I didn't even know youtube had multi language subtitles. Super cool that you take the time to even mention it. I loved the short film also! Watching this was a pleasure in every way. Beautiful
Wow Joe, Amazing work on this! I was totally entranced by the story. Beautiful Single Shot Cinematography. Very seamless transitions that really made the film pop. The Actress really brought it home though. The scene on the radio with her "husband" was heart breaking. Just wanted to say 5 Stars all the Thumbs up and Keep making the Best Content on the TH-cams!
great work with the camera oneshot movement and congratulation on finding an actor who can make herself appear and disappear even be several times in one shot at the same time. im wondering if you were training her at those kind of skills :) im not sure about the story but who cares i dont understand shit most of the time but the camera movement i loved alot so cheers to everyone involved including the 20 jars of jam for playing along
This was pure pathos and terror. Even though it's never made clear exactly what's happening, or where, when, or why, it's impossible to escape Victoria's fear or despair. Well done.
DUDE! That's crazy! While I was watching this I was like, "This has the same feel as AIR (new Skybound move)" and BOOM! right there at the end I see a Skybound logo. This was amazing! Great work from everyone who put this together!
+FenderBridge She didn't eat the jam, though. She found the jar, and before she could do anything she received a radio response. She set the jar down to go and respond to her radio. Then later when talking to her significant other, she mentioned it, but still wasn't eating it. After that conversation, she goes and grabs a jar and puts it in her bag for her significant other I'm assuming, but she still doesn't eat it. If simply finding strawberry jam and not eating it is enough to cure it, that's impressive.
Duuude, watched Birdman just yesterday, the camera movement and 'continuous shot' just like in that film worked SO GREAT in this. Hat's off to you man, that was fantastic. Keep it up!
Bloody well written and acted. This just shows that it is possible to create a short that can be both professional and suspenseful from beginning to end.
Joe Penna is awesome. I just saw "beyond" for the second time, went on Joe's page and saw this one. I realized after a minute I had seen this one too, but watched it again, and it was great again. The actress in this film is very talented, she was also in the film I mentioned, beyond. Great stuff
Awesome short film. I'm making a new playlist to save just high quality short films. And this one is going in it. Clever and effective camerawork. Top notch work here.
Holy frack, that was good. I've seen quite a few full-length films that aimed to be everything that this was and fell flat on it's face. Once again, I'm reminded not to underestimate the independent filmmaker or TH-cam for that matter, nor consider them lesser forms of entertainment.
I thought this would be cool but I was actually blown away! The acting was good, the music and special effects were great and the atmosphere fits the movie really well. The story itself was interesting and I wish I could see what happened before 0:00. Definitely looking forward to seeing more short films! :D
Dude... this was intense! It made me cry. It made me feel with the caracter. It was perfect! And it makes me wonder what will happen afterwards... Maybe a part two?
The cinematography and acting in this is amazing! I dont know anything about either of those things and I can tell this short is great! :D A great watch all round
Dang.......................that was good. The ending left me with so many questions. Did she get better? did they have to "take care of the threat" ? etc etc. Great stuff Joe. :^)
I liked this video 10 seconds in! Wow Joe you did an amazing job. The script was awesome, the lighting was spot on, and the make up was amazing too! Thanks for sharing your talents!
A little tidbit about how we shot this:
Whenever things are looking positive for Victoria, she's framed on the right.
Whenever they're looking bad, she's framed on the left.
+Tom Thomas Bad things are framed on the left... The guy on the left cocks his gun. She got shot.
Can we please get a directors commentary or a making of!
was that her son she asked for? Me being a Father would have been way more emotional saying goodbye to my son. I would have tried to fight it and muted the walkie but there would be way more crying by a parent. Because you think about how your kid will not have you any more. Hope everything turns all right for you mate.
Honored to provide the music for this, guys. Film turned out amazing.
+Scott Stedman wonderful job, man! your music was great!!
Who found back here because of watching old TH-cam Rewinds? I'm glad, this guy is still around! I don't know, how I could have missed all these years.
Ugh, so good. That ending was killer. I'll be honest my first response was upset that I didn't get resolution but then I calmed down and remembered that ambiguity is one of the most powerful motivators to be creative and that the ending really begged of you to decide what you believe would happen.
Jesus christ, the art direction for this is god damn beautiful.
TH-cam needs more amazing creators like you...
+Xerator Where the fuq did you came from :D?
DANNYonPC
I'm subbed to MGM for like 6 years lol, I remember that he sent me a message to check his channel out :D
that's pretty much what youtubeRed is all about.
+Xerator hey fam :D
+Xerator How haven't we've seen eachother before :o
The jump cuts were well used - something I don't see very often but the effect feels right here. Time passing; angst.
Incredible work here Joe! Congrats
+Paint Oh hey, look a wild Paint appeared.
+Paint thanks Jon!
I luv that cut/teleporting-pan effect. super smooth and neet! :) 10/10

Don't forget a crazy talented makeup artist!
I loved every aspect of this short film. From the camera shots, to the makeup design and even the set design. I would love to see this film be made into a movie because there is a lot of story still missing here. Excellent job Joe and the team.

+Jonah Penna He does such great work!
In all situations, hostile, unknown or benign, this reflects the true core of human intention and human nature. Thank you for this emotive film, Joe.
That was excellent! The cinematography and her acting was amazing!!!
I agree!
DAMN her acting skills are insane!
Awesome short film Joe, congratulations for all the team! Really liked the transitions using camera movements
Joe's attention to detail is amazing, the sets, the makeup, the pro-quality biohazard suit, everything.

Who knew that strawberry jam could be so heartbreaking?
There is no such thing as a bad upload from MysteryGuitarMan!
Excellent movie, thank you!
Wow, this was fantastic! Those panning shots with her clipping forward was simply stunning.
I just gave you a standing ovation. For real. I stood and I was applauding like crazy. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Lol, I'd really wanna see a second part of this or something. Made me very curious.
+Damian Ramon same
+Damian Ramon Same bro
yep... xD me 2
Jade Harlow is an awesome actress. So much emotion. So few words. I believed her! I hope to see her in more projects!
I have never seen anything like this via a short film. I had my Boze headset on and the music is INCREDIBLE. WELL DONE!!!
Her acting was amazing!
I didn't even know youtube had multi language subtitles. Super cool that you take the time to even mention it.
I loved the short film also! Watching this was a pleasure in every way. Beautiful
Ok, my theory is that the cure is the strawberry jam. Seriously.
Congratulations! What an excellent work!
:D Ro!
Jade Harlow is an amazing actress!!! Excellent short film!!
Absolutely beautiful. You guys are such gifted storytellers. Congratulations!!
I wish shorts like this were full length movies. Great job!!
Anyone else think that the style of this film might have been inspired by Gravity? Great film, by the way!
The cinematography in this blew me away! Amazing work!

I gatta say... this film is the best short film I have seen in TH-cam. It was flawless. Congratulations really.
Great film!
Beautiful in just about every way. We need more stuff like this on TH-cam!
This needs more. I kinda wish you'd make this into a 5 or 6 part thing... like backstory, if she REALLY died, etc. LOL
You rock.
I wasn't ready for these feels.
Absolutely amazing film! You should think about a full movie! Loved the super smooth transitions!
DUDE! That's crazy! While I was watching this I was like, "This has the same feel as AIR (new Skybound move)" and BOOM! right there at the end I see a Skybound logo. This was amazing! Great work from everyone who put this together!
I'm willing to put money on strawberry jam being the key to the cure!
+FenderBridge saaaaame
i feel like it had antibodies or something
+FenderBridge more likely it was just an inside joke with her and her bae
Firaro An inside joke that brought her back? sure
+FenderBridge She didn't eat the jam, though. She found the jar, and before she could do anything she received a radio response. She set the jar down to go and respond to her radio. Then later when talking to her significant other, she mentioned it, but still wasn't eating it. If simply finding strawberry jam and not eating it is enough to cure it, that's impressive.
+FenderBridge I think she died in her sleep and her waking up is just the afterlife.
SO GOOD.
Quality.
I wouldn't expect anything less from writer/director Joe Penna.
Wow!! Bravo! I was glued to the monitor the whole time! Gorgeous makeup and story!! Beautiful cinematography.
1 second in, paused the video, changed to HD, pressed like, left a comment, lit my blunt.
K im ready to watch now.
Holy shit! the cinematography is incredible!
This was Beautifully done. Would love to see some behind the scenes, especially the transitions between her in one spot then another.
+Scheu J We are working on it right now! Should be up next week.
Wow! This is amazing! I am literally blown away. So well written and produced, everything! Unbelievable!
Only just discovered this... Wow - heart-wrenching.... thank-you for this - very nicely done...
The editing, lighting, and storytelling were phenomenal, per usual for MGM
these are so great, they need a whole lot more recognition, or a short film award or something
Brilliant! One of the best shorts I've seen. And trust me. I've seen a lot. Keep them coming.
Joe Penna is awesome. I just saw "beyond" for the second time, went on Joe's page and saw this one. I realized after a minute I had seen this one too, but watched it again, and it was great again. The actress in this film is very talented, she was also in the film I mentioned, beyond. Great stuff
One of the best short films I've ever seen
This is amazing, it's so professional! Everyone involved should be very proud!

I love your music videos and these short films are out of this world!
Why? Why do you make such beautiful film? If i could cry, i would ;-; this is some real sh*t, we all love you John! Make more of these videos!

Eh nois :D
Impressed with the production value more than anything. Wildly professional
I thought this would be cool but I was actually blown away! The acting was good, the music and special effects were great and the atmosphere fits the movie really well. The story itself was interesting and I wish I could see what happened before 0:00. Definitely looking forward to seeing more short films! :D
My favorite of your longer projects. Great work! Reminds me of the great camera work from the firs season of Helix. Super creepy
"Don't shoot! I'm feeling bet........................."
awesome job! I love the camera tracking while the actor's position cuts instead of the usual other way
Amazing! The whole film made in one take! I'm amazed.
Joe I'm so proud of you. This was beautiful.
Dude... this was intense! It made me cry. It made me feel with the caracter. It was perfect! And it makes me wonder what will happen afterwards... Maybe a part two?
The cinematography and acting in this is amazing! I dont know anything about either of those things and I can tell this short is great! :D A great watch all round
still on the edge on my seat.....amazing work
These stories are so awesome to watch and I can feel myself get sucked in so fast. Great Work!
Dang.......................that was good.
The ending left me with so many questions.
Did she get better? did they have to "take care of the threat" ? etc etc.
Great stuff Joe. :^)
Awesome short movie ! I didn't think yo would be that good directing a movie. Great job !
Joe, this is incredible...this is the artist we've been wanting to see make feature films someday
