I just had my taxes done for my first year as an independent contractor courier (toally different type) but you get to write off $0.67/mile. So overall, for this summary, you will write off $893 in mileage. That helps a lot! I use Everlance to track my mileage, but MileIQ is good too. I'm excited for you! You have a great future ahead of you. Best wishes!
I’m currently doing research to start this business along with a box truck. Thanks for sharing! I’ll be following you along the way. Much Success to you!
@laterrlesteverson529 yes, I'm mostly OTR right now. and it's more regional for me right now.. it's a little slower on the weekends, so when I'm regional I can just deadhead home to be with family. I think you will make more money with a box truck, bc you'll have more cargo space. I choose the sprinte, bc I wanted something smaller that I can park in my driveway, easy access to the cargo space when im sleeping in my van, and I don't plan on doing OTR forever. My van will be good for local routes as well
I agree with some of the comments about your success for the past 2 days, but it doesn't stop there with a total take of $1033.50 after driving 1333 miles. We need to dig deeper into your true operating costs, especially on your fuel cost and the wear and tear on your vehicle for such a long mileage. From your numbers, your actual gross is 99 cents per mile (gross amount % total miles). To accurately assess your profitability, we should factor in all expenses associated with running the delivery service. This includes maintenance, insurance, vehicle depreciation, and other overhead costs. Calculating the total operating cost per mile by dividing the total expenses by the total miles driven will provide a clearer picture of your business's financial health. While I can't gauge if 99 cents per mile is good or bad without knowing your freight market, it's crucial to keep a close eye on your operating costs. Efficient management of these expenses, such as optimizing routes, monitoring expenses closely, and ensuring timely vehicle maintenance, will be essential for long-term profitability. So, keep track of those expenses and make sure to factor in everything from fuel to maintenance, including your deadend miles. With smart cost management strategies, you'll be on track to maintain profitability and sustain success in the delivery business.
thanks for the comment. I do plan to start adding my fuel cost in my videos because I have gotten that question alot. Also the total miles driven in the video, includes the deadhead miles. I have factored in all my expenses associated with my business, but chose not to share everything.

Do you guys have your own authority or lease onto carriers ? If so who some of the carriers ?
@angelmartin4519 I currently lease onto the carrier company I subcontract for.. I'm also under their commercial insurance. the name of the company is Square 1 transport
Hello just wanted to say great video keep it brother. But i have a question i also want to start my own van owner operator for starters what do i need to start. My other question is how many hours do work a day is it worth it?
you will need your own LLC, USDOT #/MC # ( if you chose to drive for a carrier company you won't need a MC #) as you will drive under their authority, BOC-3, UCR, and commercial insurance unless you sign on with a company that adds you to their insurance. it depends, with you being a Owner Operator you can set your own hours. for me it was worth it. I made way more in my first month than i would have at my old job working from home haha
when you say 12% to the carrier...are you leased on a company or is that you setting money aside for your business?
@@intheworkseg6 actually it's a typo.. it's actually 22% that goes to the carrier. they have a team of dispatchers that find loads for me. and im under their insurance.
@@EverydayImRussellin13great video content! Congrats on your first load and taking that big step. Does the 22% per load fee include the commercial insurance?
@619Luis nope, i pay $176 weekly for commercial insurance

@@EverydayImRussellin13 thank you so much bro. Be safe

What is the fuel cost for those two days ?
it was $203. the dealership filled up my tank before I drove it off the lot.
What company do you use to get your loads?
Great job Big Bro me & my wife are in the same business just starting what load boards do you suggest keep up the Great Grind 💯💪🏾
Me and my husband I'm the way to do it also lolll hope we get it lollll
What carrier company do you work with?
"Square One Transport "
Do you get to put your price or its a set price you get per the mile?
they normally call and give me details when they see a load that we can bid on. If I give the ok on the details they normally bid for me. and I wouldn't say it's a set price, if I really want it, I can tell them to bid a little lower so that it's a even better chance of getting it.. Haven't had to do that yet
