That is the only shame with many red book cd‘s....NOT the format itself but the often poor recording (actually the very same with the highly praised or shall I say ‚overrated’ vinyl). But there are well recorded cd‘s out there...thank god 💪🏼

@Distretto audio: have you ever had the chance to compare this Audio Research CD player with one from Audio Note? Interests me what was your impression / which one do you prefer and why? Thanks 🙏

Actually I never had the chance to compare them. What I can tell is that the CD7 is quite different from the newer AR cd players. CD7 is more vivid in tones and probably less neutral than the CD9, but more emotional.

@@distrettoaudio thanks very much... I think for me would be the more „emotional“ Version 7 (or the upgraded 7 ?) more interesting. Do you think the version 8 has technical advantages as they say in the forums (less hum, longer lifespan of the tubes).?
Do you think bass tightness of the 7 is good ? Some say that the 8 does this „better“...?

@@bikemike1118 About longer lifespan of the tubes frankly I don't know, but regarless what AR suggests, they will last more than what you should be concerned. About the sound I prefer the CD7 to the CD8 and CD9, it sounds to me less digital so I prefer it. For sure you can find people that can prefer a more 'neutral' sound even if to me is more 'unnatural'.
