A lot of videos recommend fan cooled machines for ice fishing . Why do you recommend air cooled? I don't know much about snow mobiles, but I am thinking about getting one for fishing.
@jamescarbone4857 because liquid cool requires snow from the track to be thrown on the exchanger/radiator. The radiator is under the skidoo in front of the track for most modles. Some are just behind the tail flap. No snow means they overheat pretty quick. Lakes and ponds because of wind tend to have less snow accumulated.
Good job Nick, nice setup! It's great that you don't add any of the cheesy back ground music so many do. Much easier to listen to, and can clearly hear what your saying.
Hey Nick. Great video. I would like to add one of my favorites. Handlebar gauntlets. Keeps your hands warm without the big puffy mittens. Try them out.
"I come with a lot of baggage." - Nick Lindner 14:10 Is that what you said to your wife before you married?😂 You've got a lot of "junk drawers" on that thing! Nice vid, Nick!
Nice vid! Great mods! Maybe a comment for a base fishing snowmobile to use is have a fan cool engine or an extra air rad for when lakes are icy so your engine doesn't overheat.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check em out! Interestingly, with how much weight I have in the back, I almost wish I had more weight on the front more often than not n
It’s a normal AGM battery. The snowmobile has an alternator so you don’t need a huge battery or extra batteries for a small setup like I have. The biggest thing is just finding a battery that fits
Great video. How concerned are you about parts availability given Yamaha is going to stop selling these? I have my eye on one because it seems like such a great utility sled, but wanted to hear what you have to say.
I suppose it would depend on the snowmobile. I’d have to imagine it would be tough to fit anything like this on a normal 2up without removing that back seat.
@@tonychamley9560 sorry but im not spending 10,000 on a new sled when my sled now just needs a few modifications. I dont need to have the most optimized rig on the ice, just one that works good for me. Maybe one day if my income comes from fishing
If you include EVERYTHING (including the Box, mounting systems, added compartments, etc) it was probably around a grand. So in-total, not cheap, but lots of the individual mods were very reasonable.
Sleds were reliable 20 years ago Just dont take an old tripple or summit ice fishing LOL (before it really got popular) The old twin 400's and 440's were pretty darn tough. If you can find a older fan cooled touring model or something of that nature she'll last you a long time out there
Haha fair point! They still aren’t bulletproof, but the “reliability” for me is being able to consistently get through snow and across the lake without getting stuck or broken down!
Here’s the link dalton: www.amazon.com/MYDAYS-Storage-Luggage-Snowmobile-Motorcycle/dp/B08YNHDB57 It’s cheap and it’s really nothing special. You could probably find something way more tactical if you spent a little more $$
@@NickLindner awesome! Unfortunately my safari has the gas cap off to the side so will have to figure out of to mount it but definitely need it since I have 0 storage rn. Thank you for the reply
Vks are reliable as hell but when it gets slushy it's always getting stuck. I have to pull my neighbor out with my titan at least twice a year haha. Just too weak for hardcore ice fishing trips.
@@NickLindner haha I mean hit 3 feet of slush and try and power through with a 540 fan, you'll know what I Mean. The beauty of the vk is it's simplicity and easy to repair and maintain. But hauling wood and and deep slush they struggle.
That's thing is a terrible ice fishing sled. It's a heavy piece of junk and if you get stuck, you're in trouble Save yourself thousands and go get a vintage sled that runs good. That weighs about 400 pounds air-cooled with studs thats Way too much crap for a day of ice fishing. I see absolutely no place for the beer.
Snowmobile and reliable two words I would never put together. Never heard of or experienced a reliable snowmobile.
To each their own! There isn’t a more reliable option for getting across the lake any given day in my experience.
He obviously doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about. Probably never even seen a snowmobile in his life 😂
First rule to an ice fishing sled. Air cool is king.
100% that was another requirement for me. Forgot to mention that in the video
@NickLindner Nick, I'm a mfg building items like this. Contact me if you'd like to give some input and get some real nice products for free

Quite a weapon there buddy! I love the quick sonar and pole dismount for hole hopping and fishing off of the sled.
Thanks man! Efficiency is the name of the game. The last thing I want to do is be messing with pulling stuff in and out of tucked-away storage spots.
Nice set up, you gave me an idea which crossed my mind many times to buy used snowmobile and modyfied for my fishing trips.
Thanks man. I love this setup and it’s a serious game changer for me on the ice!
Good job Nick, nice setup! It's great that you don't add any of the cheesy back ground music so many do. Much easier to listen to, and can clearly hear what your saying.
Glad you enjoyed it! I’m not against music, but if there isn’t a good reason for it, I leave it out, personally.
You bet! Love all the “little” mods you added. Those are awesome!
Haha thanks man!
Great Video Nick, You covered a lot of bases! If you like what you do, other people might want to see it!
Thanks! I appreciate you watching
Those were both awesome snowmobile mods, I definitely appreciate the great ideas guys.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Nick. Great video. I would like to add one of my favorites. Handlebar gauntlets. Keeps your hands warm without the big puffy mittens. Try them out.
That would be a nice addition!
Lots of good information here. May steal the phone and light mount for my atv.
Do it!
Damn, you have that much snow already! I am jealous! lol. great video.
I wish! I shot this video on last ice last year.
Like a Harley, extra belts and a great mechanic lol
Yup!

100% for sure
Add some 11” ski skins while you can find them for the vk 540. I did. They are awesome . The heavy sled just floats on the snow

What kind of holster is that for your pliers and scissors and where can I buy one?
@@joeygoetsch4429 it was part of a rapala tool kit
Nick make sure you restock your storage bags with more pins😉
You’re probably onto something. I donated a LOT of pins to buddies last year.
Great video guys! Well done
Thanks!
Expedition with the Turbo R and SWT is where it’s at.
If I had the $$$$$ I’d own an expedition for sure!
Great information Nick!
Thanks Evan.
Nice work! Good tips for all to be aware of.
Always helps to be dialed!
Sweet setup

Great info, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watchjng
I love the ram mount holder but you better epoxy the rubber ends or you WILL lose them and the metal underneath doesn't hold the phone well
Thanks for the heads up! I haven’t lost any rubber yet, but I’ve read that that can be a big problem.
Awesome setup Nick
Thanks Scott!
Very good video! Kind of off subject, but how are you liking that Striker Apex suit? I just got that suit for Christmas and am excited to use it.
It’s ridiculously nice. I think you’ll love it. Very lightweight and warm

They are sooo sooo hard to find

Hey! Personally I’m not too concerned. I’d assume they will support the sled that are already out there with parts and whatnot.

Do you know what the specific name of the kolpin mount you have attached to the digger auger carrier that holds the spud bar?
It was this one:

As if my wallet could get any lighter... Now I have to save up for one of those boxes! Thanks for the ideas.
Haha sorry terry!
Dialed setup!
Thanks man 🤙
So with the 2up touring models is it possible to keep the backseat option while still having all that cargo space?
I suppose it would depend on the snowmobile. I’d have to imagine it would be tough to fit anything like this on a normal 2up without removing that back seat.
Look into the skidoo skandic or expedition. Both 2ups and ton of room on the back
