  • The Zhiyun Weebill S vs the Ronin SC a comparison of the two best travel gimbals on the market in 2019. Which travel gimbal is best? It depends on what you need. The Weebill S holds more weight and larger lenses for mirrorless cameras and stabilizes them easily. The Ronin SC has some of the best tracking and other smart features of any gimbal currently on the market. The Bottom line is the Weebill S or the Ronin SC will both give you smooth stable gimbal shots. The Weebill S and the Ronin SC will both be excellent gimbals for you but which one is best depends on your needs.

    I used two different cameras to show how much having IBIS can help when using gimbals but I also turned IBIS off to do a more direct comparison. I only had access to these two cameras and a very limited amount of time to film this video.

      @@JakeSloan I was under the impression the Ronin SC can mount the a7 III, is there a reason you didn't just use the same camera for both gimbals? I ask because I have heard the RSC can be finicky when it comes to heavier cameras like the a7 III and wanted to know if that was one of the reasons. If it does, do you have you any experience with this setup? This is one of the questions I am considering when deciding if I should go with the a6600, which has an IBIS system closer to what is found in the a7 III, and pairing it with a decent lens and the Ronin SC to maximize portability and functionality. I have been wondering after watching videos though if it'd be better to go with the a7 III and the Zhiyun Weebill S and a decent lens, even though its around $1000 more to do so properly. I just have a sinking feeling I'll spend the money to get setup with the a7 III so late in the game that I'll instantly wish I had waited for the a7 IV instead. Hard decisions, but I appreciate content like yours helping me make an informed decision. Great information overall, well filmed, and straight to the point. That's a sub from me.

      Jake Sloan still can’t decide. I used a lot of DJI and Zhiyun products and was happy with all of them. User Interface / App is usually a bit better on DJI products.
      I use a Sony a6300 and don’t plan to upgrade to a7 (most likely another a6.00 series)
      I’d say:
      + Weebill: Form Factor, Battery, a bit stronger/stabile due to stronger motors I guess (Zhiyun Crane-M was weak during wind)
      + DJI: Active Track, Force Mobile, Price.
      Not sure if I a will need/use the DJI features.

    For the first time I am seriously looking at a gimbal for my mirrorless camera. Watched your first take on the Weebill S and this one with the Ronin. Very helpful information. I have wanted something small and lighter weight after many commenting about how heave a gimbal can be. And I wanted versatility in movement. The Weebill S looks to be what I want. Object tracking would be great on the Ronin but I think I can work around what the Weebill has. Thanks for sharing.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both of these gimbals are very light compared to others on the market. The Weebill S def shoots some of the most stable footage of any small gimbal I’ve used so far. I’ll have a few more videos coming on how to use the Weebill S and setup settings etc in the next week or two. I hope they help and thanks for watching!! Cheers

      Agreed! I loved the Weebill lab when I had it but really wanted some of the features they have now included in the Weebill s. I’m glad they have listened to people who gave them feedback and incorporated that into the S model. After using the Lab the Ronin SC and now this for the last month the S takes much heavier setups and handles them with ease! Cheers and hope you enjoy your Weebill S when it arrives!!

    I saw the comments that most of people are an the Zhiyun’s side. However, there is one thing that you guys didn’t mentioned. A6400 doesn’t have image stabilization, but a7iii does. If you want to test these two gamble’s performance, please load the same camera at least. Anyway, the result of the two gamble’s performance comparison is not fair.

    • @JakeSloan

      Jake Sloan so please tell me, why I have DJI ronin sc with a7riii + 24GM 1.4 can get a really good smooth shot? There is no shaking in the footage. Otherwise you set up wrong of roninsc

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can get a really smooth shot as well. Especially with ibis on. But with ibis off and not trying to walk extremely smoothly either gimbal will have shakes. I didn’t try and walk super smoothly so it’s a more real world test for most people who don’t use gimbals every day and are walking over un even ground.

I started with the Ronin SC though just returned it because of the release of the webill s and the fact that one of my lenses is the Sony 24-70/2.8 GM. What would be really helpful if at all possible is you doing a tutorial on how you step up your A7lll for gimbal work, I.e. focus settings and other tips that would be helpful. Curious with all the outdoor shooting you do what Sony Picture Profile do you like using ? Thanks again

On the picture profile I use PP1 but I changed the default quite a bit after using EOS HD pro color v4 settings for a bit. I then adjust the contrast shadows and highlights just a little bit in post. This video was particularly challenging to shoot. Strong backlighting and rapidly constantly changing from harsh sun to no sun kept me adjusting things constantly lol. Cheers and thanks again!

    Do I need the transmission module in order to use my smartphone as a second monitor for Zhiyun? And can you also program some focus points on Weebill in order to film yourself (saw in the dji app you can mark some spots where the camera should focus and what speed etc.). I have a sony a7iii and would love to go with the ronin-sc but it seems like Weebill-S is overall the better choice except for the app itself (also can handle my 16-35f4).

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you camera has WiFi and an app to monitor through then now. If you camera doesn’t have an app or you don’t want to plug a small external monitor directly into the camera then yes you will need the image transmission module to monitor video wirelessly. I have a video coming up focused on the wireless image transmission system!

    For me the most important matter for deciding for the Weebill S was, that it is much smaller und less heavy than the Ronin SC. It is easier to transport the Weebill S as an „always with you gear“
    When you are travelling and making tours everybody knows what I’m talking about.
    When you buy in addition the SmallRig handheld for this Gimbal you can fix on it a second monitor. A second monitor with good quality is a must have when you shoot in bright sunlight, because on the normal camera screens and smartphone panels you see nothing in bright sunlight.
    Also important is the camera compatibility for operating it with the gimbal.

    We are in the market for a gimbal to help stabilize our travel footage. We have the A7iii, 16-35 GM, and the Rode Pro Plus. It looks like the Weebill S can handle the weight of our gear. My questions, how would you mount the Pro+ so that it doesn't interfere with the gimble movements (underslung mode ~ for example)?
    Also, just curious, what software are you using to edit your footage?

      Hey! I use Final Cut Pro X to edit with. Davinci resolve is another great option if you’re not Mac based. The weebill S would def handle that weight and they make this little thing here to move the mic off to the side of the camera amzn.to/3fim9pd (Affiliate link) so the mic won’t interfere with the camera movement!

      It was someone else’s dog behind me. They were playing fetch with a stick in the lake lol. I would take a serious look at the Weebill S for your use. If not then the ronin Sc would work with the R and smaller lighter lenses. The Weebill s will work with many heavier lenses though.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to buy the image transmission module and the phone bracket separately or wait till they offer the image transmission pro package for the weebill s. If your camera offers built in wireless image transmission through an app then you would just need a phone holder to attach to the weebill or use an HDMI monitor and HDMI cable from your camera but that won't be wireless.
