  • Oregon Spring Chinook Salmon Fishing. I plan on spinner fishing for salmon with Angling Addict Fishing Co Spinners which found me a nice native Chinook a couple days earlier. Sandy River Spring Chinook fishing can be a tough one considering we are usually heading into a very wet season which can cause some rough fishing conditions and higher water flows. Fishing with spinners is my favorite method for catching these amazing fish, though a bobber setup with some eggs can be a killer at times.
    If you haven't seen the video, check out the link here: • Spring Chinook Salmon ...
    I met up with another local angler who was also casting spinners and we both ended with some nice Spring Chinook. Though his was a native and had to be released, it was his first Spring Chinook, and a nice one at that! Nothing beats that first experience with a Chinook on the end of your line.
    I should be coming out with another video on how to catch spring chinook along with some Spring Chinook fishing tips.
    I already have my sights set on the Fall Chinook and Coho fishing season that is quickly approaching. Considering i use the AAFCO spinners a LOT, i want to do a tutorial on how to catch salmon with spinners. There are a lot of different techniques that can be used in different areas that will help increase your chances over that basic cast and retrieve method.
    Stay tuned for my videos, tutorials and just some good ol fishing fun!

    Hey I’m kinda a newbie to salmon fishing, I noticed you really get those spinners out into the water. Any advice for for throwing spinners farther? And is there and way to add weight to Blue Foxes?

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just Vibin - I think the braided line helps, but my spinners are heavier than a bluefox. I used to fish with those spinners all the time before I started making my own. I know people have used an inline weight or have pinched on a couple split shot but I think that just makes it easier to snag. I usually say if you aren’t casting as far as you want, get heavier spinners. Try the weights or checkout the website.

    What are the conditions you look for that make you decide to fish a spot? Been trying for a couple of years and I still haven't managed to hook into any of the salmonids and I think I may just be going to the wrong spots/at the wrong conditions.

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Meltingfrog - There are so many times I’m fishing an area and KNOW there has to be fish there but come up empty handed. Sometimes you just can’t get fish to strike. That’s why mixing it up is huge. You could throw the same thing all day with no luck or cycle through different colors and styles. A simple color change or change in presentation could make the difference. When it comes to what I look for it’s usually any deeper pools, channels, or bottlenecks, anything that’s going to provide what the fish prefer. The weather and river conditions play a big role. I’m usually looking for spikes in the river level so I can fish when it’s dropping again. If the water is low and clear the fish may be less likely to bite. Seems my last couple fish came when it was raining. I’m still trying to figure it all out.

    • @TheWallman456
      @TheWallman456 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Angling Addicts PNW Aren’t we all?! Haha
      I used to go to a spot with 3 rods and a bulging backpack and just get STUCK. Knowing that I should move around but AWW, AAWWW it’s just too perfect! They HAVE to be here. And I would just be there for 10 hours throwing everything and the kitchen sink at em.
      So I finally ditched the backpack and got a vest and boom, all the difference in the world. I actually started catching fish! Whaddya know 😆
      But like you said.... it depends.
      I think about it like this: if the river is on the rise they’re traveling. Find a travel lane and post up.
      As it drops, the fish find their spot to wait for rain again. This is when I pick like 2 techniques, start high on the river and hit the holes on the way down.
      I swear this one adjustment has been an absolute game changer.

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adventure Angling PNW - it looks like we should be having thunderstorms this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. It really depends on how much rain we get, how high and fast the rivers raise and how bad the thunderstorms are. Otherwise I’d say there is still a chance of finding a fish, though it is starting to get a little late in the season, may have to put in more work to find some

      My bet would be fishing lower until the next freshet. Everything from Oxbow to Cedar has been worked over pretty thoroughly this past week. But I’m still a rookie so .... big ol grain o’ salt comin right uphaha

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheWallman456 - I’m not talking about it blowing out. It doesn’t need to blow out, it only has to get dirty enough to be unfishable. It didn’t raise much last week and it was brown for two days. It’s spring now, the water can dirty up fast. If it’s raining low, it’s raining high. Snow melts, sediment enters the river. Spring and summer are more about how saturated the ground is when the rain does fall. We were also originally supposed to have thunderstorms this weekend which doesn’t make for the best fishing. I live 15 minutes away from the river and I’m not fishing it this weekend. He’s coming from eastern Oregon.

      MikePierce170 - I can’t make it that easy ;) I’d have nowhere to fish if I showed all my spots. Now I’m back to just jumping around trying to find some fish again. Good areas come and go, but...... this was on the Sandy river, I will give ya that. This recent rain raised the river a lot a few days ago which could get the fish to just blast up to the hatchery. The river is dropping now and it’s going to be a nice week. Fish the deeper pools and channels with slower moving water.

    • @MikePierce170
      @MikePierce170 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnglingAddictsPNW lol oh I figured as much. It was worth a shot though right 😄? I kinda thought it was the Sandy. I live right in Troutdale but mainly fish the Clackamas. I've found quite a few hot spots on that river but for whatever reason never worked the Sandy much. And you're right about the water level. Even the Clack is up quite a bit.
      My primary passion is spearfishing. I do that mostly im the ocean but occasionally enjoy targeting carp in the Columbia. Over the last 2yrs though I've really enjoyed filming salmon with my gopro while diving the rivers (never in the Sandy though). I'm getting a Hero 8 Black soon to hopefully catch some Springers on film. That was really why I was looking for locations on deeper pools. Swift currents are not ideal for freediving.
