How to Link a Debit Card or Credit Card to PayPal Account

Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to link a credit or debit card to your PayPal account.
Linking a credit or debit card to your PayPal account makes it possible for you to easily send money to someone else through PayPal, and then charge it to that card. Additionally, if you link a debit card to your account, you'll be able to instantly transfer funds from your PayPal account to the bank associated with that debit card if you pay a very small fee. Finally, if you're not able to link your credit or debit card to your PayPal account, it may be because someone else has already linked it to their PayPal account. This video will cover how to link a credit or debit card to your PayPal account through both the PayPal website and the PayPal mobile app.
And now, let's walk through how to link a credit or debit card to your PayPal account through the PayPal website.
Step 1. Open your Web browser and navigate to paypal.com.
Step 2. Click "Log In" in the upper right section of your screen. The Log In screen appears. Enter the email address and password associated with your PayPal account, and then click "Log In." Your PayPal home screen appears.
Step 3. Click "Wallet" in the row of options that appear in the upper left corner of the screen. The Payment Methods screen appears.
Step 4. Click "Link a Card or Bank" that appears in the Payment Methods drop-down menu on the left side of the screen. The Link a Payment Method screen is displayed.
Step 5. Click "Link a Debit or Credit Card." The Link a Card screen appears.
Step 6. Enter the number, expiration date, and security code associated with the credit or debit card you want to link to your PayPal account, and then verify the billing address associated with your PayPal account. Click the blue "Link Card" button after verifying your information. A screen with a green check mark appears confirming that your credit or debit card is now successfully linked to your PayPal account.
Step 7. Click the blue "Done" button. You'll be returned to the Payment Methods screen, where you'll now see the credit or debit card that you added appear in the Payment Methods section.
And now, let's walk through how to link a credit or debit card to your PayPal account using the PayPal mobile app for Apple and Android smart devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, or Google Pixel.
Step 1. Launch the PayPal mobile app on your smart device, and then log into your account if prompted. Your PayPal home screen will appear.
Step 2. Tap the "Settings" icon in the upper right corner of your PayPal account home screen. The Settings icon looks like a gear. A menu screen appears.
Step 3. Tap "Banks and Cards" at the top of the list of options in the menu. The Banks and Cards window appears.
Step 4. Tap the "+" sign in the upper right corner of the Banks and Cards screen. A menu flys up from the bottom of the screen.
Step 5. Select "Debit or Credit Card" in the menu. The Link a Card screen appears.
Step 6. Enter the number, expiration date, and security code associated with your credit or debit card using the onscreen keyboard as prompted. Then, confirm your billing address, and tap "Link Card" at the bottom of the screen. You'll return to the Banks and Cards screen. A message will briefly appear along the top of the screen confirming that you've successfully linked your credit or debit card, and you'll also now see the card you linked appear in this list.
Congratulations! You've successfully linked a credit or debit card to your PayPal account.

Why does it say ''This card is not accepted, please use a different card.''?
Maybe you're trying to link a card they don't support. Sorry, I don't know.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure SENDING SOMEONE MONEY using this method with a "credit" card will also be subject to those super high interest (not so small) "cash withdrawal" fees. This only makes sense for regular purchases.

if you are using debit card try the “bank account” option, just look for ur bank name and insert ur account number.
Does not work, since I don't have an "add debit card" option available at all. Just bank account or credit card. Why? I've a business account, I believe.
I called Paypal and discussed about this. They just said that ”my bank (Nordea) debit card cannot be added.”
...wish they had a list of which would / would not work.
This had nothing to do with my Paypal account being a business account.
Try to link your debit card from the credit card option.
In Bulgaria, there's no debit card option as well, but many people have managed to add their Visa Electron debit cards just by entering its information as a "credit card".
Is your problem already solved? I got a the same problem. The only option displayed is enter credit card details. I tried to enter my debit card instead but its still wont work

Your card is still linked to your PayPal account, but you can't use it for purchases until you confirm that you're the owner. Try confirming again or contact the card issuer.
What To do With It ????.
I'm lucky at first it said '' your card has been decline please try a different payment method''. Someone told me to wait for a few hours and I was pissed off at first and i listen and kept calm and it worked.

to add your debit card on the add credit card part, enter the long number thats on your debit card, mine is 16 numbers, it will select card type for u (visa) then the expire date, then the security number which is on the back, mine is 3 numbers, done

I don't want to be in the account with a linked credit card, I tried to make as a debit card. However, I wasn't going to use a credit card and it might another card, but I hate PayPal. The worst online banking website I ever have seen.
Work like a charm! Except when I did it, it wanted me to place the address of the original owner of the debit card associated with the card and not my own personal address that I registered with paypal. You see, the debit card was a rebate debit card that belonged to my friend. He owed me money and didn't have cash to pay me back so he gave me his rebate debit card as a payment. I was able to link my debit MasterCard. Unable to transfer PayPal payment to my card tho ....
You can’t link a debit card it doesn’t have exp date or CVV
A debit card has the months at the mid left side for the expense date and on the back the 3 numbers and the CVV numbers

Debit cards dont have a security code or card types like visa, mastercard, etc, so wth are we supposed to do for that stuff??

My option only gives me the option to to link my US bank account, and I live in South Africa so that isn't it, and then it only gives me the option to link my credit card. Nowhere does it give me an option to link my debit card

Weird. You may want to reach out to PayPal support. The payment method you have may not support that.

How much does it charge to link them and if you receive money from an outside source. Can you send money to the linked account from the money recieved?
Doesn't cost anything to link them. You'll be charged the current rate whenever you use the linked card as your payment method. This has nothing to do with getting money from an outside source. This is all about how you intend to PAY for the things you buy using PayPal, or which account the money is coming from when you SEND money.

Okay so I linked my TD debit card to my account and I see it when I got to my settings as linked cards, but everyimte I go to try and send money or pay someone it brings me back to the link card to make payment.. Which doesn't make sense because I already did. Anyone help me out?

I had to get a new card and my old one was closed....will my money still be on the new card? Even if I have to activate it
I don’t have an idea how paypal works, so my brother linked my credit card to his paypal account. Unfortunately we can’t used the account with the different account name and credit card name, My brother remove my cc account on his paypal account and I create my own account. Are you using American Express? Try using that 4 digit ID code on the front instead of the CVV code on the back. Some places expect this number instead. Just a thought.
