I was pulling my spindle out today. I was looking at it and trying to figure out what I should and what I shouldn't do. I decided I should look for some videos. I'll admit I cringed watching this.....however you sincerely helped by showing me what you did ........ and with this and your other videos I got it out and I should be good to send it out for new bearings. Thanks for being open and not afraid to show your method of madness.

Madness seems a little harsh! Hahaha!!! Glad to see my videos are helping! Pest of luck with your machine!

Hey, currently refurbishing Bridgeport Interact 412, see some similarities to your machine. It's nice that you show the next stages of the renovation, there is still a lot of complicated work ahead of you. I look forward to further progress and keep my fingers crossed.
    Greetings.

Hello friend! Thanks for subscribing! As you can see, half the time I have no clue of what I’m doing so both our fingers are crossed!!! Hahaha! This is why I do these videos, so that you guys can tag along and let me know when I’m off track! So please don’t hesitate to comment. Welcome to the Chanel!

@@BlaiseBarrette We live and learn, there was no need to remove the large spanner nut or the silver collar, only the black split collar but you know that now. hopefully you have not created any problems, just maybe flush with clean mineral sprits? and make sure your spindle lubricator is working properly when you go back together. I replaced mine with a grease pack spindle but that was $2850. itscnc.com/spindles-new-reman/spn-0336r.html I'm definitely not the spindle expert and no doubt you did get a little trash in there but I don't think that means for sure that the spindle is trashed.

@@jimcisme1 I am such an idiot! Hahaha! The I'm don with this machine, I will have learned a lot! I think flushing the spindle with oil is a great idea! I even tought of emptying a few cans of break cleaner to flush any contaminent, then flush with spindle lube. What do you think?

    Hey mate.
Enjoying following you with this rebuild.
As i was watching this one i thought you were removing an awful lot to get the spindle out.
I have not long ago got myself a vmc 10 and having fun getting it cleaned and ready to go although not doing as much as you.
There are some helpful vids from cnc pro's and others if you get stuck although you probably know that. Cnc pros do a good one on removing the spindle. There's not too much to it.
Anyway keep at it and ill keep watching your vids.
Unlike you I've never ran a fadal before so i have a bit of learning ahead but cant wait to start cutting.
    Keep up the good work.

Glad you like the videos. I sure enjoy making them! Thanks for subscribing! I did a quick search on TH-cam for CNC Pro's wth no luck... Could you share a link?

I had an instant premonition of a dirty shop rag entering the scene.

Well that spindle is most likely trashed now. You took off the spindle preload nut and if you know what your doing it’s not too hard to get back correct but you also exposed the bearings most likely contaminating them. I think for the money you are going to end up spending fixing this machine you could have purchased a brand new machine

    • @BlaiseBarrette

Yup! Not my finest! Clearly, I don’t know what I’m doing half the time! But that’s ok... For me it’s a fun project and a way to learn. I got the machine for 500$ CAN (+/- 400$ USD). So I can afford to make a few mistakes. I’ll try to salvage the spindle and if not, I’ll get a new or refurbished one. Or have this one repaired. We’ll see in time. Someone suggested in a comment to flush it with spindle lube to clear contaminants. I would also need to find out the torque to apply on that nut. In the meantime, I’ll be sure to quickly post a video to warn viewers not to remove the preload nut! Thanks for the comment!

Some of the spindles are grease packed if you flush it with spindle oil you can say good bye to your spindle. If it an air over oils better but still don’t touch it. Just put it back together and the tight the preload nut.
The way to test the preload is to put a tenths indicator on the spindle nose the press down on some wood with about 500lbs of force. Then zero indicator and lift the head. Then activate the drawbar and see what the indicator reads.
Depending on the type of spindle there are different number you should get but I think you should shoot for between .0008” and .0012”

@@BlaiseBarrette also I forgot to mention all the instructions on how to do this are posted online. So if you don’t know just do a little research and look up the procedure.

Is it not possible to just replace the bearings and preload it accordingly? I see alot of people rebuilding 10k spindles with out issues but not fadal. Just curious. @@ianagos4276
