- Watch a step-by-step breakdown of the disassembly of a Bridgeport spindle, from the removal of the nose cap to replacing the bearings. Bill Murphy of C & M Precision Spindle uses jouncing to take the spindle apart but has suggestions for other methods throughout the demonstration.
Also included in the video are some helpful tips on re-inserting a set screw, matching bearings, and determining the top and bottom of angular contact bearings.
In addition, Bill goes over some of the differences between a 3-Pack and 5-Pack Bearing configuration. To learn more about 3-, 5-, and 6-Pack Bearing Upgrades, please visit our website: www.cm-spindle....
Thank you for the information and demonstration.
Our pleasure!
This was a very informative video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Glad it was helpful!
More balls equals stiffer shafts?
Tee shirt or bumper sticker?
Haha. Yes, maybe we should set up an online swag store (:
Hello. My Bridgeport clone (Comet) is in dire need of your services, ... do you do work on spindles shipped from Canada? Thanks for your videos.
Sure. It is easier for you to go over the border and ship from a US UPS office than all the paper work then have me ship back to them. Be sure to leave sub assembly together and send the nose cap. Wooden box wrapped in cardboard will be the least expensive. Cheers,
Bill Murphy
@@cmprecisionspindle Thank you for your reply and shipping suggestion. Will follow up after a little more research .
What is the price for the 5 pack and regrind the items you mentioned if I supply my bpt spindle.
$650., for bearings, R-8 grind. Be sure to send the Nose cap and the sub-assembly still together. UPS is still the cheapest, jut make sure it is in a wood box so it can take a UPS drop. Cheers, Bill
Boa Noite sou do Brasil tenho fresadora Bridgeport troquei a correria e agora não estou conseguindo regular o RPM pode me ajudar
SpankRanch Garage on TH-cam, You will have to take head apart and rebuild. Sorry. They need rebuild every so often. I limit myself to spindles but I found that video in seconds looking under "Bridgeport mill head problems". It would great if you put your rebuild journey on TH-cam for the next guy in Brazil if possible.
Hey Bill awesome video!!!
Thanks a ton, David! I appreciate it!
Why don’t you just blue loctite the nose piece in and forget about the little grub set screw?
I've seen it fail too much. If you use all the steps to Loctite it is great but no one does.
saw this spindle shaft (bridgeport) for 150 bucks on aliexpress
Can you share the link? Much appreciated!
Good information, thank you. I suspect because you're in the spindle "business" it seems like "nothing" to throw on another pair of bearings . In my world some of those bearing pairs run in the $300 - $500 range!. If Robin Renzetti [sp?] rebuilds his high precision spindles with "just" three bearings , that will be good enough for me!
You are welcome. I'm sure Robin does excellent work. Cheers, Bill
You're really sucking on his teat pretty hard aren't you. I bet if he jumped off a bridge, you would say "how high".
More bearing doesn't equal more precision, it equals more rigidity.
Great video - you have obviously done this many time before!
Much appreciated!
