The sad part of Mikage's story is that it is very real for a lot of people. Many go on living their lives based on a memory of someone who is no longer in their life.
a couple of weeks ago I had to construct a short play for school and my group came up with basically that story. im rewatching utena right now and just realized that mikages story is how you said, sadly real for too many people. the coolest coincidence however is that i just finished the mikage duel episode, wanted to listen to his duel theme, and you typed this comment just two days ago.

@@younggod5230 i watched Utena for the first time when i was 15, then when I was 20. It was like two completely different shows. Insane. For example, I was completely and utterly convinced Utena does no wrong, and then being kind of terrified at what a dummy she is

I dont remember the lyrics, but the meaning of the last words was something like "i am a fictional magical virtual construct, but i will disappear in a single breath" and the gasping like sounds at the end...

Coming back to this comment to say that i JUST realized Mikage and Tokiko are Utena's parents, thus explaining some parts of the finger pointing the cats in the Nemuro episodes, i am mind blown, it was so obvious with the haircut of Tokiko and haircolor of Mikage... this is crazy

@@forgetfulstranger yes, mikage and Tokiko are really similar to Gendo and Yui from Eva, Nadia has utena haircut, mikage utena haircolor
In ep22 (or 21 i dont remember) the fingers point a mikage, then a cat, then Nadia, then another cat, then two petals in the teacup, revolving around eachother (Nadia and mikage had a relation) , then a tiny little cat is pointed (utena)
