This is what I really liked about the original series compared to the reboot - the majority of the competitors were normal people! Not everyone was an electronic engineer or whatever - some were just normal people, having fun, building a robot out of whatever they found in skips, scrapyards, their garage or back garden - and they enjoyed it! They loved seeing their hard work getting smashed up, clearing up the mess, then having another go the next year!
The reason Thunderpants never made it into the arena was due to its drive belts being damaged beyond repair by King B in its series qualifier battle against said robot, M2 and Pressure (not televised). They lost the battle but received a discretionary place into the series. But they couldn't repair the drive belts.
its not as sad as Terrorhurtz, who even told them ahead of time that they probably wouldnt have a finished working robot, but they didnt replace them. Then agan, looking at certian seeds this series *glares at Ming Die-nasty*, probably good that they didnt replace one of the top seeds even if it couldnt fight
In my school vr game, Thunderpants is in the game in the Minaru workshop of wonders, and man, it has been repaired heck according to its data logs it took on a replica of Gravity and immobilised it
Funny how over the years the starting heats for the reigning champion got more and more pathetic. Road Block had to deal with Onslaught, Nemesis and Killerhurtz of all in its' defence, then Panic Attack had the surprise of X-Terminator driving it to the wire. Then Chaos 2 had two 'meh' heats (King B would have been a better final than Atomic back then), Razer had an utter walkover, and now Tornado is given access to the semi-finals on a platter. Literally the only decent robot in this episode besides Tornado is the notoriously unreliable Barber-ous, and even then it's a perfect target for Tornado - even if they did meet in the finale it wouldn't really have been a contest at all. Oh well. Take the rough with the smooth, grumble grumble. I loved the original Saw Point in S4, it was such a mental and bizarre machine that you'd expect out of a comic book about Robot Wars, not the actual show. This one misses some of that, but the sheer low budget fun of the team gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, and not just because of the new meds. I like teams that play that game rather than the 'million quid CNC porn' things you see these days. Looking at you, Rapid and Pulsar. That first round doesn't look that bad and there seems to be lots to say, but nothing really happens in it. Saw Point 2 gave it the best shot possible to try and win against Ewe 2 but its' weapons didn't really do much. U2's flipper gave out about halfway into the fight it seemed, and Tornado was determined not to let Devastator get up to speed so that they might be damaged. I'm struggling to describe the match in any sort of positive light so we'll move on I guess. Barber-ous, you were our one hope! You were meant to defeat Tornado, not to break down after a few nasty hits! Ugh. This and other fights where the machines never went into the arena make me think - what was wrong with 12 heats rather than 16? It worked in the previous two series, judging by how many robots never got into the ring, or entered two entries - we could have cut down on the entrants and maybe got a better series out of it. More feathers! Mammoth I think has been in every series since 2 in the walker or lower weight categories, and is the only robot to do the Triathlon in Techno Games - entering the sprint, cycling and swimming. Nice to see it get a KO, though DTK decided that was enough fun and even then, dropping a washing machine on it and the machine took more damage - if this was the last showing for the long running team it didn't do a disservice. Alienator, lucky escape, and they took being voted out very well. I want to say Leveller 2 is about as vanilla a flipper as you can get here in Britain but as someone who drives ACE, something about glass houses and stones comes to mind. They tanked those nasty hits from the last round though, Barber-ous and Tetanus Booster got some very good blows in and it didn't die. It fell apart of course but you have to admire drivers who keep going despite the state of their machine. And it does it all over again. The moment that Tornado was flipped last season against Firestorm was the moment it all could have gone wrong for them, but here they go on the attack with their wedge upside down like a battering ram. At this point Tornado hasn't got the power or speed that it had in earlier series, and Storm 2 out-did them at this point too, but it was enough to bully Leveller 2 about and into the House Robots. And every single time, L2 just came back again and again, refusing to back down right up until the end. Considering the build quality of some robots and spinners, even in this day and age on television, I think Leveller 2 has a place in my heart as a robot I never knew I liked, and now I definitely do. They were drawn against the champion, and the least they could do was give as good a fight as they could. They're not near Tornado's level engineering wise, but spirit? I think they've got that in spades. In a sense I don't care so much about this judges' decision between Ewe 2 and Tetanus Booster, because neither is even close to a match for Tornado and we're looking to see just who'll get shoved around the most. But this is probably one for a top 10 controversial decisions list if you ever wanted to make one, Nick - I think it was wrong by the criteria, but it's a decision I'm happy with. Why? Because I don't like Ewe 2. Simple and as cynical as that - I never liked Lambsy, I don't like Ewe 2. For a show that likes to talk to the kids whenever possible, the dad seemed to hog the limelight an awful lot, and he should probably have known a robot with no weapon isn't going to be looked upon kindly by the judges. Tetanus Booster was barely alive at the end of that fight, but it was still alive, and I think it did... alright. Not enough, but they were honest that they weren't running it properly, and being fair with the judges' decision, admitting they maybe didn't deserve it but were happy to take it. That electric lifter didn't work at all, I think for all of Tetanus' claim they broke it - it was just another way of having a big steel wedge on the front - but it didn't matter. Brian, David and Andrew didn't let Tetanus get a nose in, and even though Tetanus seemed to catch fire multiple times, it never gave up until it was thrown in the pit. At the end of the day, once again, this was a horrendously easy round for Tornado - but damned if the fated few didn't do their best.

This Saw Point and the Saw Point in S4 were built by different teams. The first Saw Point from the team in this heat fought in the Minor Meltdown. But yeah, it can get confusing when robots have the same name but have different teams
You talk as if it was a pushover for Tornado, but Tetanus was fighting back all the way, and there's a long list of robots who were winning hands down until they got pitted (or drove themselves into the pit) if they made one mistake... in fact there could almost be a statistical rule that the faster a bot is moving, the more likely it is to encounter the pit...
Team Tetanus seem like a bit of a precursor/counterpart to Sabretooth now. They both entered 3 series (while missing out/failing to qualify for one) with some fairly unconventional designs and lost at the same stage each time. Then they entered a compact, more boxy design armed with a spinning drum and finally reached a Heat Final, losing to a Grand Finalist from the previous year.
Jesus christ how did Cassius Chrome even get to exist? As soon as it comes into contact with anything the tiny pendulum that runs the fists stops, how did ENGINEERS not know this would be the outcome. I feel like they only made him for the pun, there is ZERO power behind those pathetic jabs and to even compare him to Ali is a disgrace. They could have made a real boxing robot easy by making individual fists that were powered by hydrolics and would fly out at high speed. One powerful punch, instead of whatever this is -_-
SPOILER: I couldn't tell how he thought tetanus booster might lose, ewe 2 didn't ever use their flipper for goodness sake. Maybe I'm just biased towards spinners but it didn't look like ewe 2 actually did anything.
In the second fight, as soon as Barbarous was disabled, they only showed Mr. Psycho tormenting it, and ignored the real action, the remaining robots fighting it out. WHAT HAPPENED? I DON'T KNOW! There was a lot of real action I missed because the editors and cameramen thought a little bit of theater was more important.
Not really - Tetanus Booster’s motors were smoking and it was barely moving. Leveler 2 was already seriously damaged and sitting in the corner at that point.
This was actually Heat A when it was filmed and the producers decided to switch with it Heat E because they wanted an explosive start to the series. If they'd aired this Heat first, people wouldn't have found it interesting and would've stopped watching straight away
you can really tell its the first one filmed. The arena floor is so clean in Tornado's melee. Or at least, it is until Tornado starts causing tire marks all over it.

This saw point was a sequel robot of A Kill, whereas the Series 4 robot was succeeded by Demolition Man (clue is in the wheels)
