Thank you for this. I'm tackling a U0122-00 Lost Communication with Vehicle Dynamics Control Module on my 2008 Suburban. I'll try to report back with my findings.
Great troubleshooting, I'm working on a 2012 Silverado 2500HD, am not a mechanic but have many years of industrial electronics experience and I have the same "Alldata"? schematics along with correct probes and test equipment. Your MOST important point is to disconnect the vehicle battery BEFORE doing anything, no one wants "Card Fryer" added to their name. Again, a well thought out and documented presentation troubleshooting wiring/components on an automotive network, GMLAN in this case but your logical approach is valid for all others...

Excellent video, thank you! I am chasing an intermittent U-code problem with a 2018 Yukon. I have a much better idea of how to break this problem into pieces and isolate the network segment(s) that are the most likely based on the error code clusters I am seeing. Thanks a LOT!
First off, this is the best video I’ve found on gm communication issues in a week of looking. Thank you for making it! I’m fighting my 2010 sierra, 3 codes in my ebcm, Loss of comm with ecm, bcm, and tccm. Symptom is ABS not working. Traction button also not working, NO trouble LIGHTS on dash. Help? Haha
Sir, this is a great on the job, no special tools, instruction. When you are a Mom and Pop service, when you are mobile service, this is the way it's done and it is very much appreciated. Now, if I could borrow a cup of flexibility for my body I would really appreciate that also.
I'm having a similar issue but not related to the resistors. I'm getting the correct 60ohms at the DLC but I have no com with the EBCM and loss of com between the EBCM and the BCM, ECM, Tranny module and transfer case module. I'm getting continuity on the high speed LAN wires all the way from the DLC to the EBCM harness and all the powers and grounds check out at both the DLC and the EBCM. I can't seem to figure this one out and it is driving me crazy. Codes are U0073 and U0121. All modules communicate but the EBCM. Issues are a service trailer brake message, traction control indicator, brake indicator, abs indicator.
Try depinning the communication wire from the EBCM connector and then plug the connector back in. You should get a communication signal on the depinned circuit from the EBCM. If not then the EBCM is dead. I did a a similar depinning of in an airbag system in my latest video.
Very good diagnostics. I'am troubleshooting a 2000 c5 vette u codes 1016,u1064,& u1301 have cleared all, the u1301 & u1016 where (H) History codes & did not return, the u1064 (Loss of communication w/BCM) returns after a drive cycle. Also the U1128 (Loss of communication w/Radio returned a week late. It's been a journey but after seeing this I'am Diggin in. Best, G. E.
Thanks for this video I have a u0100 ebcm code. No lights on just showing up on the system scan. Hope i can find the problem with the help of this video.
I have always thought that if one of the terminating resistors were open that none of the modules sharing the bus would communicate. I saw is a circuit. Any opens would not allow communications as an open in a circuit would not allow current to flow. Apparently, if you had checked the voltages at the DLC, they would have been there. How does the canbus really work? Why an open terminating resistor does not cause a loss of communication in all the other modules? Thank you.
An open terminating resistor won’t open the entire bus circuit. They are primarily used as diagnostic devices. To show that one leg of the network is not complete. Now if the circuit has 4 modules and then the TR and the open circuit is at the third module you won’t see you TR or the 3rd and 4th module. By testing resistance at the ALDL you see 120 ohms and know that part of the network is open. You’ll need to find out which half and then isolate where by seeing which modules are not talking.
@@jordyreyes4495 For my suburban it ended up being a faulty ESC (electronic suspension control) module. I had an intermittent no start start and intermittent no com from the obd2. Gauges acted wild, door locks cycling, etc. I ended up just disconnecting the ESC module instead of replacing it and it works dandy now. If you have the electronic suspension the ESC module wouldn't be a bad place to check for issues.
Did the trailer brake controller throw a code on the DIC? My 2019 HD is throwing a service trailer brake on the DIC and service engine light is on. Took it to Autozone and scanner only shows fuel pump communication loss yet engine starts fine. Not sure if this could be the same issue with mine. I changed the trailer brake controller and the module above the spare tire and still no change.
The vehicle in the video was older and did not have a DIC. If you’re getting a TBC fault AND. you have a loss of of comm with FPCM you have comm bus problem between the ABS module and the FPCM. Check the connector at the FPCM. You’ll need a wiring schematic but you want to check for power, ground, 2 comm lines and a wake up signal. If you have those. Check the pin fitment. If the female pins get spread too much they won’t have a good connection to the male pin. Do you have 60 ohms on the can bus?

Great video on the testing/troubleshooting. I have a bad connection at PCM/ECM itself. Where can I get a wire diagram so I know what pins I am testing? (2017 Traverse) Are most cars like this with the resistor paths or is this specific to Chevy? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

What tests have you done? Looks like you have pulled some codes, but that’s not testing. Those codes point to a power problem with the speed sensors in the transmission. Look at a wiring schematic and see if those two sensors share a power source. If it’s a fuse check that fuse.

What tests have you done? Looks like you have pulled some codes, but that’s not testing. Those codes point to a power problem with the speed sensors in the transmission. Look at a wiring schematic and see if those two sensors share a power source. If it’s a fuse check that fuse.
