No one put in 12L of oil, these Isuzu's are known for having really bad oil dilution issues because they are constantly regenerating. The engine runs rich on exhaust Stroke to send diesel into the dpf when regenerating, some of this leaks past the pistol rings, which causes oil dilution. It's meant to have 6.5l of oil but after 2-3months the spanner light comes on dash and when dropping the oil 9L came out... The dipstick has 2 marks for min and max when filling with new oil, then a yellow section and above that is a big X to show max oil dilution limit, change oil now... Isuzu's cheap fix to not solve an expensive problem their trucks are having. They are having the same issue with the newer 1.9l diesel pickup trucks...
Other manufacturers inject diesel fuel directly into the dpf with a separate injector to prevent oil dilution. Isuzu doesn't do this...

I noticed that with my car, continuously regenned and the codes said the DPF was very heavily full. Even though I visually inspected it and flushed it with no driveability symptoms there would have been if it had been blocked. I narrowed it down to the differential pressure sensor. It was giving unplausible values, making the ECU think the DPF was more blocked than it really was, hence the attempts to regen. I wonder how many people have replaced a DPF unnecessarily because of a cheap sensor giving wrong values to the ECU.

Just wondering how much oil you removed, and also how on earth these manufacturers are aware of this issue and don't do anything to solve it.
Reading the comments it sounds like it was double overfilled. Wow.
With all that being said it's actually great the car shows you the level of the particles in the filter and the regen process.

    • @MrZimmaframe

I dont think the mechanic put 12L of oil in it. These Isuzu's are known for having really bad oil dilution issues because they are constantly regenerating. They did a recall and just changed the dipstick and software update... The engine runs rich on exhaust Stroke to send diesel into the dpf when regenerating, some of this leaks past the pistol rings, which causes oil dilution. We had nearly the exact same one in colour, engine and year, It's meant to have 6.5l of oil but after 2-3months the spanner light came on the dash and when dropping the oil 9L came out... The dipstick has 2 marks for min and max when filling with new oil, then a yellow section and above that is a big X to show max oil dilution limit, "change oil now"... Isuzu's cheap fix to not solve an expensive problem their pickup trucks are having. They are having the same issue with the newer 1.9l diesel pickup trucks also, ask me how I know. We bought the newer 1.9 diesel 23 plate thinking they would have solved this issue with the newer engine, nope same issue and we only have 5k on the clock, bought from brand new... Engine lights been on 3-4 times, been back and forward to B and B tractors, you don't give a 💩, (either literally just dropping some oil out so it's not so full and doing a forced regen or dropping some oil out and resetting the dpf and about 10miles down the road the oil comes back on again) engine light came back on the same day... We won't be buying any Isuzu products again after this one.
Other manufacturers inject diesel fuel directly into the dpf with a separate injector to prevent engine oil dilution. Isuzu doesn't do this...

That X on the dipstick tells you it's time to change the oil because of fuel contamination. At least it is on the Mazdas. Pretty sure the car dumps any unburnt fuel into the engine oil if a DPF regen is done. Surprised the other mechanic didn't know that.

How to read the dipstick on diesel Isuzu D max and Mitsubishi Outlanders: the dipsticks have the (normal) full and low marks for the engine oil level., they also have an 'X' overfill mark. It is expected that these engines will add diesel to the engine oil thereby increasing the oil level above the normal full mark. During running and after any regen the oil level is expected to drop down to the correct level again. If it does not, either due to a fault or incomplete regens the oil level will increase slowly. The engines can be run with the oil level then over the 'full' mark but less that the X mark. If the level reaches the X mark the engine is deemed 'overfull' and the oil must be drained (it will start burning oil, clogging the DPF and in danger of diesel runaway). Also these vehicles calculate and record in the EMU the amount of fuel added to the oil. This has to be initialised to zero amount each oil change or the EMU will thow up an 'overfill oiil' code.
