    • @todddoster6487

      I think some extenuating circumstances are at play based upon the circumstances and the fact that it would have been a minor inconvenience that would not have cost NCL much to take the passengers on or wait a little longer knowing the circumstances as the tour operator called first. I agree ships officers are pressed and everyone hates a dock runner, but they didn't even secure their passports or wallets from their cabins as they have been known to do in circumstances like this, especially when notified a guest had to seek medical treatment or guests were known to be slightly overdue from an excursion regardless of sanctioned or not. This is not a first world country and travel options are extremely limited in and out. Also, this is a prime example why you should by trip insurance... With that many passengers, they know they would have to do reputational damage control, which is far more costly then dropping a lifeboat or at the very least waiting a little longer or securing their belongings and sending ashore on the last boat in to give to the port director.

    • @brendahorneff893

      @@brendahorneff893 You are 100% correct. I agree with you so much so that I wrote (earlier) over on Don's Channel that you (any company, like NCL) should not set a precedent that would be difficult (if not impossible) to implement in the future. Very good point made by you.

      I think what really struck me was that the tour company called, and the ship was still in port when they got back. the local coast guard put the people on a boat and took them to the ship and they were refused entry.

      @@emilyerbsYou cannot just jump from a smaller ship to a cruise liner easily when away from a dock. If any of these people had gotten hurt while being passed back to the cruise ship you can bet they would have been on the phone to a lawyer to sue as quick as they could get to a phone.

    NCL should not have caved in and paid for the extra expenses that were incurred. As courteous as it was for NCL to do this, it now sets a precedent for other passengers who miss their ship to be entitled to compensation. Again, if passengers cannot follow the basic rules of cruising they ought to stay home.

      NCL should NOT have paid for the extra expenses incurred to get back on the ship after they were left at a port. Now they’ll have to pay for everyone who does not make it back to the ship on time. So, they get paid for being irresponsible!

    • @enjoystraveling
      @enjoystraveling 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Also, I guess NCL will have to get the money from somewhere, such as charge other future passengers more to make up what they gave to these passengers who missed their ship at the proper time.

      The TH-camr posting this information has not explained the full story. Please google eight passengers stranded in Africa for the full story and details. NCL was wrong, the ship was still there hadn’t gone anywhere, and they hired a boat to take them to the ship and they were refused to be boarded. Yes, there are rules that need to be followed, but this was just stupidityon the part of the cruise line NCL

    • @keithwieland1004
      @keithwieland1004 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@garyk4576 Yes I have seen and read articles from NBC to the New York Post concerning this incident. As unfortunate as this is the Captain had no obligation to wait for any individual or group not on a NCL coordinated shore excursion. The ship was still in the vicinity when the authorities attempted to get the passengers back in the NCL ship. Again the Captain was correct to not allow them back on board. This was a sound decision but a difficult one to make. And NCL paying for their extra travel costs for their error was above and beyond what should have happened. It was more a PR decision. And this kindness now sets up a new and dangerous precedent NCL and other cruise lines.

    NCL is being very kind to reimburse the guests that were an hour late. Everyone knows the basic rule of cruising, return on time!
    Glad the paddle wheeled ships are going to be given a new life. They are not my cup of tea but they are beautiful to watch on the Mississippi.
    Glad the cocaine was apprehended.

Meanwhile I was on the NCL Jade 2 weeks ago and got food poisoning from food on the ship. I became very ill & had to go to the ship’s medical facility, where I was charged $3800! If you want an inexpensive option consider visiting Cape Town. The Western Cape Province of South Africa has much to offer and although you won’t get a Kenyan savannah experience, you can still do a game drive and outdoor experience only a short distance from a major modern city with excellent food and wines. This year 34 cruise ships will make Cape Town a starting destination, mostly MSC. Live in a small town about 100km down the south coast from the city, and this week we had our first cruise liner although they tendered the visitors who got to visit several spots, including heritage sites that have been occupied by hominids almost continuously for over 80000 years.

    Both but if you want me to choose B because I’ve been to the Amazon. Would definitely do it again.

    I am okay with NCL reimbursing the 8 stranded passengers for the expenses from Gambia to Senegal. It is my understanding that the passengers had to find their own way from São Tomé to Gambia, which was the next scheduled port of call - that is the typical rule for passengers who miss final boarding. But the fact that the ship ended up not being able to make that port call brings things into a gray area in my mind as to who should be responsible for getting them to the next port on the itinerary.

    Kind of crazy thru can pick up the people in an emergency but can’t let their passengers back on board.

    Looks like the new thing will be smuggling bottled water on board, or drink the cruise ship tap water if you trust it on Carnival.

      Cruising was always scary if you knew what was going on behind the scenes. Perhaps there is just more transparecy today. Don't think we are just smarter.

    A. But not by a giant cruise ship. I've cruised the Amazon by very comfortable small 3 story river cruisers... 20+ passengers, with many excursions in small boats to shore or down tributaries, to see animals, swim with pirañas and pink dolphins, visit river towns and villages, etc. It was an amazing journey. A large cruise ship with so many people would absolutely ruin the experience.

    My concerns about the on-board renovations being done during the transatlantic crossing lie with the materials and chemicals being used. If the construction workers are using High-efficiency particulate filter masks or wearing hazards mat suits, I’d be worried.

    One comment to add on the reimbursement is that they are reimbursing for the flight because the ship ended up not docking where they planned and so the passengers had to go to the next port of call. Since they had to take flights to two different cities to reconnect with the ship, NCL was trying to be considerate of the second ticket.
    Personally, I’d be fine if they didn’t reimburse at all, but I also feel that this is the absolute MAXIMUM they should even consider .

    Reimbursing them was far more expensive than just letting them on the ship while they were there… idk

    Any theater or event center charges $3-$6 per bottle of water. Sure, I wish it was cheap or free, but I'm actually surprised it's not $3 a bottle or more.

    It's nice to hear about the reimbursement. If it's true that the coast guard brought them to the ship and they were not allowed to board then I'm feeling they have some responsibility I'm wondering if there is a little tiff between that particular cruise tour company and the ship ie. this has happened too many times before...

    No to A & B. Do the cruise lines believe travelers have lost their minds. Cruising no longer makes financial sense, especially to Africa and Amazon. Who would risk their life just to impress.

    We had an amazon cruise booked for feb 2024 on HAL and after a 10 day cruise into the Panama Canal, the cruise was such a letdown that we couldn't wait to get off and cancelled the Amazon cruise. We also found out after final payment we needed yellow fever 🤒 shots, a visa for brazil at $80 per person and the ship was originally scheduled R T fort Lauderdale. Surprise!! It was now leaving from Miami but returning to FLL but the cruise line offered a transfer for an additional cost. It just got to be too much and HAL is the most boring line on the sea and we are in our 70s and 4 star. We are done with them. 😢
