Cruise line because I figured they could help without having to call some hotline to get the participating people they use. We also buy flights through the cruise line so they will cover delays and cancellations. However I might check out a yearly policy because of your video. We cruise 3-4 times per year.

We have used an annual policy from Allianz for the last several years. With that, there's no worry about pre-existing conditions. In the few cases where we had to submit a claim, the reimbursement appeared in our checking account in five days or less. Great service!

I should have mentioned that we also have Emergency Assistance Plus for medical emergency coverage. In an emergency requiring transportation back home, they will provide any medical transportation necessary, including Air Ambulance. They also will provide a nurse to accompany us on the journey if medically required.

We did alliance a couple years ago...the had problems with BBB. I took a really long time to get our money for a really basic straight forward claim. They asked us to resend the documents several times and then had a 2 week review process...maybe they changed since then. I had to divert my return flight to seattle take both my parents back home in CA from our trip in Jamaica. I ended up travel with them after they both ended up in wheel chairs.

I am a seasoned cruiser. I purchase the insurance every time. One never knows what will happen. You review was awesome and very informative and I learned some things that I was not aware of. Have had to use my insurance only once and that was for damaged luggage. Had a medical situation arise on my last cruise and needed medical attention on board. Fortunately I have a great supplemental insurance in addition to my MEDICARE and my supplemental plan reimbursed me 100%. Thanks, Jason for that great review. Don H Ocala Fl.

We were on a 34-day Europe Cruise the last 5 days I got sick with covid. I took the medicine paclovid which was free here in America, at the time, but it cost $750 on the ship. I thought for sure I wasn't going to get reimbursed but I turned it in the claim and the paperwork and to my surprise
I was reimbursed. We use Allianz travel insurance and I found them easy to work with.

Great information we said. This is so complicated in you have pre existing. So many insurance companies do no want to pay. Pay when you book to be covered in most cases and I mean pay for the insurance not just order it because there may be a long period from booking date to payment date. Anything that happens in that period creates pre existing condition and not covered

I read the yearly policy before paying and discovered that the yearly policy had to be purchased before booking travel. I would like to share with everyone that even if you purchase "cancel for any reason" addition, AND your reason is covered, you will likely NEVER receive a 100% refund. Insurance policies simply dont offer it. The most I've ever seen is 75% refunded, which stinks because it's so expensive to begin with!

What sarahpugh6700 says is usually correct. But some policies are odd. Viking’s policy pays 100% for cancel for any reason, but you likely get travel credits, not cash. To Viking’s credit, the cancel for any reason is part of their standard policy, not a costly upgrade.

I like to book cruises shortly after they are announced to get the best price. The problem is that it is usually just over 2 years away. Typically, there are no travel insurance policies available if your cruise is over 2 years away. So by the time you can buy the policy, the 14 day time period for the per-existing condition waiver has already passed. Just doesn't seem fair.

Hi Eric! Thanks for commenting. You have a good approach to getting good prices on cruises. Booking early is generally cheaper in the current market. Plus, you always have the opportunity to do price matching if a price does happen to go down. Regarding travel insurance: It may be worth looking at an annual policy. That is the approach we went with. That could help to offset the valid concern that you bring up. Hope that helps! Have a great day!

Best option for most folks is no travel insurance. Every trip we take our travel agent prices it out for us for some reason and and it is always a high premium for a low risk item only good for the 1 trip. Annual plan sounds interesting but we only take 1 trip far from home each year at the moment.

I'm almost 60 and have never had to cancel a vacation or had one disrupted for covered reasons. I don't see the need for travel insurance. With The amount of money you spend on insurance, save it and invest in quality stocks or just save in your account currently earning hopefully close to or at 5%. Maybe if I cruised during hurricane season I might consider it but why would I ever cruise during hurricane season? I wouldn't! I sold insurance for years and I do have renters insurance and auto of course, but if for some reason my vacation gets screwed , which (knock on wood) has never happened then I am willing to take the loss. Save your money and invest in a quality insurance company instead, as they rack in billions annually. Each year coverage gets less and premiums go up. WTF!

Cancel for any reason never covers 100% of the cost, at least non of the policies I have seen. Also, usually if your trip is $10,000, it will have airfare, hotels, cruise, excursions, etc. The airlines I fly in USA, for “non-refundable” flights you are given a credit to be used within one year and in case of death of the passenger, I got a true refund for my father-in-law’s airfare when I wrote customer care and provided a copy of his death certificate for flight I had purchased for him. So insurance would not cover airfare expenses, since I got a refund.

If I have cruise insurance through the cruise line and I get sick or injured and only require minor treatment on board the ship by the ships staff, will I still have to pay the full bill before I disembark or would the cruise lines insurance discount or eliminate the charges immediately? I’m worried about a huge bill before I get off the ship and before I can process a claim.

I don't purchase it because 1) Credit cards, medical insurance, amex platinum emergency evacuation provides some overlapping benefits, which reduces the value 2) Certain parts of a cruise is already refundable like taxes/fees/gratuities, which can be a significant portion of the cost. 3) I simply refuse to spend a massive amount of money on a cruise in the first place, so I can take the loss.

What is often left off of these discussions is do you really need travel insurance? For the majority of us the answer is "No". Princess charging 9% / 12% for 1 trip is way overpriced for a less than 1% chance of something happening and using the insurance. When travelling more frequently and/or you have some real concerns an annual insurance plan through Allianz or something is a far better value than a single trip plan.

Maybe a dumb question but.... do you include the cost of your air travel (first class travel exceeds $10,000 and adds a signifiant amount to the premium) in the quote for trip insurance? If the trip is delayed or cancelled, the airline would refund and/or get you home or credit you for future travel, so I'm thinking to EXCLUDEthe cost of the airline ticket. Thoughts?

  • @nicholaslawrence84
    @nicholaslawrence84 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Why can't you insure just part of the amount of your "Trip" for cancellation and interruption (i.e., the amount you don't want to lose, or think you can't afford to lose, even if you're willing to eat some losses in the unlikely event something bad happens?)Why does it have to be a choice between buying no insurance at all, or paying a huge amount to insure 100% for cancellation and 150% for interruption? When you buy car insurance, you can get either minimum liability coverage (cheap) or a million in coverage (not cheap), if you are negligent, someone sues you, and you have assets to lose? What happened to the couple that insured for $10,000 and then got 0 because the "Trip" was 10,074 and they were required to insure for the full amount is just crazy.

Since we are traveling to Alaska, our regular medical insurance will cover us as we are United States citizens. Also, evacuation coverage is probably not as necessary since there are US hospitals available. Does that sound reasonable? So I am less interested in the medical coverage and more interested in missing our ship either on the first debarkation day or at a Port of call. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what coverage will cover this? Trip delay seems like very low coverage, trip interruption does not seem to necessarily apply. Missed connection seems to be what would apply? Can anyone recommend Travel Insurance that is specific to cruising with regard to missing the ship???

As Jason mentioned, the cruise line coverage typically covers cruise line expenses and exceptions. It may or may not cover missed airline connections or other issues not related directly to the cruise. Allianz process claims promptly and reimburses quickly (for me, never more than five days later).

Along with having good travel insurance. If you know you want to be cremated when the time comes. You can go to a company it’s called Neptune. Pay for your cremation upfront at 2024 prices. When the time comes no matter where in the world it happens. Your loved one just calls Neptune. And they will take care of everything else at no additional charge to your loved ones. i’m sure there are probably other companies that do the same thing. Read the fine print.
