    Thank you so so much. This saved me a lot of time. I need to say I'm not that familiar with processing vocals and tried a bunch of different tutorials on youtube to achieve a clean but charismatic sound. I even tried to combine different tutorials, but in the end your video contains the best of all. In my opinion you don't need more than this tutorial. Thanks.

      I've got a question for y'all! Is there a way to keep "new audio" to the left on the timeline??
      For example when I cut out a bad take from a line, it would be nice if all the audio collapsed automatically to the left, instead of having to drag it myself to the left?

    I've learned so much from you. Thank you. I'm still tweaking the way I sound as the mic I'm using for a youtube series is the NTG2, so I'm sure a shotgun mic is different from a dynamic mic. Still, I've learned so much, thank you.

    How does this make recording voice overs easier than using Audacity?

  • @actorjamiehjung
    @actorjamiehjung 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Zed! Using the chain you've outlined, if you're /still/ getting audio to peak above -3 dB would you recommend using yet another compression plugin? Or what would you suggest to help squash peaks down while maintaining the track's RMS? Thank you so much!!

    Thanks for this video! How did you create the template for the Noise Gate and DeEsser? Is there a tutorial for that in one of your videos?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! This is actually pretty simple. Open the Noise Gate - dial in the settings you want to have as your template -> go on top of the plugin to the drop down menu and click "Save as...". Give your preset a name and click "Save". It is now saved in the drop down menu as a preset. Works the same with any other plugin.

    Hi, this video is so helpful.... I’m making a short video add to advertise my gig in Facebook and need to record a female voice-over with a soft tone but afterwards when mixing I need to make that vocal more present, more dynamic ... I’m using a €1200 Shure KSM44 Mic - Logic Pro with Apollo MKII INTERFACE ...what would you advise? Many thanks

    Hey hey! Great video! What is your approach when having to do a variety of different volumes of speech in the same project? I.E. One line whispering, another with regular speech, then another with screaming at the top of your lungs?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thank you! If it has to be done on the same track I usually cut the different parts and use the region gain function so I can turn it up or down in volume. Using automation on the EQ for the different regions works also great.

    • @erichohnke706
      @erichohnke706 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zed Marty Production Thank you so much! That does make sense to change the gain on the track and to use EQ in he regions. If done on different tracks and a pre-amp gain function is available, is it optimal to set the gain level for each line of speech?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but small volume differences can be easily leveled with a compressor.

    Hi this is great, but I'm finding it tricky to put it into practice. I set up the noise gate and this works well. But then when I move onto the de esser I lose the noise gate benefits.. How do I save the noise gate so I can have both noise gate plus de esser and so on? Many thanks!

      I record with one and after recording and I use the other during mastering. You can try it.

    why it can't go above -3db? :)

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It has to do with the EBU R128 standard: True Peak level should not exceed -1dBFS. If the material is converted to other file formats (mpeg2 or Dolby Digital,..) inter-sample peaks might occur and with -3dBFS you are in a safe spot.
