Hidden in the drop down menu Shuffle R - thank you!!! That's going to massively boost my productivity. If you search for ripple editing on the Internet, people tell you that this isn't supported in Logic. I'm going to use a combination of Logic and RX 9 for my voice overs now.
Interesting video, thanks! I'd love to hear the difference in sound with you using the MautoVolume first in the chain and then using eq and compression after that. I think you'd get a better sound as you woulddn't be working the compressors so hard and you'd get less of your room tone. 4:1 ratio is a bit much for a VO, IMO.
Having worked in radio for many years back in the day (early 90’s) the only processing is on the entire outbound mix w compressors and limiters to provide an even level. There was no processing on DJ mics. It may be different today
I'm just curious to know who your target audience is. Because many folks who'll view this are complete newbies (like me), I'd encourage you to take the time to explain briefly what you mean when you use a technical term. For example, in discussing how to handle plosives, you do a nice job of explaining what a plosive is. But then you accelerate (like a Ferrari!) to "I'm gonna use a high-pass filter to roll off the sub-low end." For this newbie, this absolutely exploded my brain! I guess overall it just feels as if you're targeting an experienced user of DAWs, which isn't very clear until one gets into the weeds. Even phrases like "this helps the noise gate hone in on my breaths" is mysterious unless the viewer understands what a noise gate is. You're articulate and you certainly know your stuff, but a lot of it is way over my head! Thanks for listening.
I suppose it’s a shot in the dark to receive a response on a 3yr old video but was wondering if you think this would all be possible on the iPad version? I’m starting a new career in VO and and working on an iPad. Any resources you could point me to would be great. Thanks!
Great Video, thanks. I‘m using Logic for making music (for fun) and Pro Tools for my job. (Radioplays, Podcasts, Audiobooks, Voice Overs etc.) There is one simple feature I miss in Logic which makes ne stick to Pro Tools for editing. Its called „Repeat to fill Selection“ in PT (alt+cmd+v). This is essential for cleaning up Voice Recordings fast. When you make a selection, like you did with this first Mouth Noise, you can fill in Roomtone from your Clipboard, JUST for the length of the selection you made. So the pause which the speaker set, stays exactly the same. In every other DAW you can only fill in the whole Audio from the Clipboard, not just for the length of the selection. Is there any workaround in logic to do this? This would be so great.
Hey I have question! In the master channel, what are the settings for the gain and adaptive limiter set to? I’m a bit confused on how to take my Audio to louder levels without it becoming distorted 😅 If I record near -18db do I raise the track to -6 db or so if that’s the output I want to be at? Or do I process everything at the lower volume, and then increase the gain in the final stage on the master channel? Confused with that process …

Great Video! Would you make a video on using Screenflow specific to Logic users? I have Screenflow 10 and everytime I screen record my logic song session the audio always records as mono in Screenflow, even though my Logic session is mixed stereo. Thank you.
Sound (voice, music, sound effects, unwanted noises, volumes) is what takes me the MOST time when editing my youtube videos, even when I'm NOT doing any fun diy songs... And no wonder... I basically knew NOTHING regarding any of the topics or concepts in this video... Chris, you would fall out of your chair or die and roll in your grave if you saw or knew how I did my sound editing LMAO!!! Guess I need to upgrade this particular skill and knowledge base to improve the turnaround time in publishing my videos... lol 😊❤👍
There is great information in this video. But....make no mistake everyone, if you need that much corrective processing in your vocal chain, you're using the wrong mic and most certainly very, VERY poor mic technique for professional VO. Learn the basics of great room treatment, where you are in the room, and most importantly, where you are in relation to the mic's diaphragm. Ironically...this will help you actually stand out (in a world) where everyone's VO and intros come plowing through like a freight train. Trust me, regular people (which is the majority of your audience) don't enjoy that sound. Only audio heads do because we like to tweak. Pay attention to film dialog and as a reference. Also, stay away from shuffle left. Why? The result it produces is not a natural speech rhythm that exists...anywhere. If you've ever wondered why TH-cam videos are so hard to follow...this is why as MANY content creators use this method. Your brain simply cannot reason with the uncanny valley effect it leaves with you.
1. Film dialogue is a terrible reference for VO production. They are two very different medium to two.k very different audiences. 2. Most of us really enjoy the production quality of WLPR and find it very clear to follow. 3. Unscripted speech, as in WLPR VO mostly is, is very different to film, radio, studio work.

I think the raw audio sounded better to me on a pixel 5 speaker....
