3 Autistic Men’s Lawn Was Out Of Control

A local mailman reached out to me about an overgrown lawn on his route, and I knew I had to help. He gave me the address, but when I turned onto the street, I didn't even need it. The massive weeds in the front yard were impossible to miss.
I knocked on the door, and a warm, friendly lady answered. She explained that three autistic men lived there and that she worked for a service that visited daily to assist them with household chores and ensure they were okay. However, mowing the lawn wasn't one of those chores.
This video is a perfect example of why I do what I do. Helping these three gentlemen by getting their yard back in shape so they could manage it for the rest of the season was incredibly rewarding. Thanks Alex, I've been looking for these for a while, they're in the UK too. Just ordered some.
I have a son, 28, who is on the severe end of the spectrum which affects him cognitively (understanding and thought process) as well. He also has severe ADHD. He needs 24 hour assistance and monitoring.
For all the naysayers: I only say this because not all with autism are the same. Some “higher functioning” individuals may be able to live on their own but still need help with day to day life and activities just like landscaping.
Although these 3 men may be strong enough to do it doesn’t mean they know how to do it.
I’m soo glad someone reached out to you for help. One less stressful item they have to worry about in their already challenging journey through this life that they now have to navigate without their mother 😇

As a parent of an autistic child, I want to say thank you for helping these guys out. My biggest fear is knowing that someday, my child will have to survive without me there to care for him. I don’t believe these 3 could have cleaned up the yard on their own. Thank goodness someone led you to them and now the yard looks fantastic and hopefully, manageable for them. It’s a wonderful gift! 🎉🎉🎉
Sorry to criticise but if these three men need help with showering etc, I really don't see them coping with this big garden.

Thank you ❤ As a grandmother/guardian of a autistic deaf young adult male I can see how this gets out of control! Some days it is hard for me to get out and mow! I tried to teach him but the vibration of the mower just doesn’t cut it with him! He can’t do it! Again thank you ❣️
This is the type of job that needs to be done on a monthly basis, based on the circumstances of the current men who live there - great job!
Such a beautiful backyard for the autistic brothers to enjoy. Their mother probably didn't want to leave them, but they have wonderful caregivers to see to their every needs. You should be very satisfied for your great lawn service. Well done sir.

I like the mailman outreach -- such a good connection. Postal carriers know all about a neighborhood -- they see it and touch it every day. Looking forward to this episode.
I share a common area with my neighbor, (like that triangle piece on the front/side of their place) & when I moved in my neighbor, like their neighbor, only mowed their “half”. When I mowed, I did the whole thing, (I’m 70 with a battery push mower). Eventually he reciprocated and now we take turns 😊 Great job, that yard is huge 👍💚👏

I’m very blessed that my autistic son is independent. He bought a condo so he didn’t have to worry with yard. He didn’t like doing it as a kid helping dad. Thank you you are an angel. They don’t understand the impact of everything. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Loud noises from power tools would be difficult on the autism spectrum, which is probably the reason it got to that state. I doubt they can maintain it, but hope I’m wrong.
I dont know why these men weren't signed up for a once a mouth lawn service...there is no way they could be expected to know how to keep up this yard..thank goodness they do have help in the house...

I helped two of my needy neighbors out and it became a can you, will you, i need 50 bucks nightmare. I like to help people but. Now i just stay in my own yard and mind my own business.
I understand completely what you're talking about. Unfortunately there are people out there who love to take advantage of others, but fortunately I think they are the exception and most people genuinely appreciate the kindness.

Alex, you are a special man! I know you meant it when you said this transformation is why you do what you do. I felt good about this makeover, so I can’t imagine how good you felt! I got a bit emotional on this video, could be because I have autism family members, but seeing the back yard, how the mother placed the bushes to have patio privacy touched my heart. People don’t always understand the over expressions of autism; I knew she thought of her boys planting them.

These wonderful men must have a trustee and it is one of the trustees job to make sure all their needs are covered. I know because I am a trustee for 2 sisters that are the same as them. They would also have a social worker that should be contacted. You did a awesome job.....thank you!
I am 72 and have an autistic daughter. You try to plan for when you pass, but things will always fall through the cracks. You can still see the love that their mother put into that property. The Buckthorn bushes, the sweet daisies. Thank you for helping them❤❤. I love the drone footage, it really added to the story. ❤❤❤

I would think the mom is indeed smiling, to see you came to help her sons. The home is attractive with the detailing you are doing. Appreciate you are catching "everything", including the safety access area in the back. Always like to see vines come off a house, so they won't destroy the siding, roof. Alex, you did a good job recreating comfort, space, usability, views. 36:18 is a lovely angle of how you gave back space and a view as you worked.
How sad they lost there mother who took care of them. Do glad that nice lady helps them out with things they aren't able to do. God bless you Alex as well as the mailman who let you know about the yard.❤
