I grew up with an outhouse in a corner of my grandparents back yard. We also had one within a bldg at my house. With 10 kids and 2 adults and only 1 bathroom in our ranch-style house, we needed that outhouse plenty of times! They weren't too bad if you didn't mind cold air blowing up your ass! 😂 I loved all the tree trimming in this video, Alex. It's so satisfying to see the yard open up after clearing out the trees.
same. outhouse at Grandmas and kids bathed in tin tub.
Thank you for starting my day with a good laugh! I know exactly what that cold air felt like 😂
The first 8 years of my life, we had a two hole outhouse
@@CAROLHOLMES - We had the tin tub, and four of us used the same water. Each week we got to trade off. If you were fourth one week, you were first the next week.
That wasn't clearing a yard, that was clearing a jungle 😂.
The yard looked a lot bigger when you were cutting back the brush. You sure don't shy away from hard work. Awesome transformation, Awesome Alex.
I will be 80 years old in a couple of months. Having been born in 1944 in the foothills of the Ozarks of Arkansas we didn't have any kind of indoor plumbing. We used an outhouse and well bucket to draw our water. My Mother cooked on a wood burning stove .We also heated our home with a wood burner. We had no electricity. When we moved to Michigan in 1953 , we thought we were rich! LOL. Great clean up /clearing job !!
I am 79 years old and my parents had an out house on property in country out from St Louis Mo. we had indoor plumbing for the house hold cooking and cleaning and showering. We also were a family of 8 so the outhouse was handy. This was in 1952.
In the early 60's we went to Mississippi to visit my moms' side of the family. No indoor running water, the outhouse was about a 5 minute walk from the house. We took a bath in a big galvanized wash tub, after you used the bucket to draw water from the well. No electricity, this was a real culture shock for us kids. Never have forgotten that trip! Makes you really appreciate Modern conveniences. Still do appreciate them all, but realize I could live without them if I had too.
Hi, Karen - did you heat up the water that you put in the metal tub? We all had to share the tub in our house. 3 kids at a time. I can't imagine the outhouse being so far away if you had waited too long to head that way! 😂
@PhoenixRising734 yes the water was heated on a wood stove. There were 10 kids in that house, they wanted it far away, for that reason...there were also "honey pots" for the night time if needed. You tried not to use them, due to the fact you had to clean your own!
What an outstanding job you have done....you are such a blessing to humanity. Thank you!🎉
thank you!
It's most definitely an outhouse. I've used many of them at my grandparents, aunts and my parents house. We had one up until about 1964 in Baton Rouge LA. We got indoor plumbing in 1965.
Thanks to that mom and her son for handling the situation in such a great manner. Congratulations on your sons win
What a great story. You always way beyond just mowing and that is why we are all blessed to have you in our lives. God bless you and yours ❤❤
Another awesome job! Not only did the lady thank you,the puppy was also happy with a job well done!
May God continue to bless you for all your hard work! ♥️🤗🙏🙏🙏
My grandparents built a new house in the fifties but before that, they had an outhouse, a well, a hand pump for indoor water and a wood cook stove. When my great-aunt passed, we bought her house, and though she had an indoor bathroom, there was an outhouse at the back of the yard. The funniest part is the fact that it was a three-holes! Can you fathom spending time in an outhouse with two other people?! HA! We used old Sears catalogs for toilet paper!
Company at night was very welcome!
We have a 2 seater outhouse at our cabin on a remote island in Saskatchewan. I learned that when 1 hole was filled the second seat went into use until the first composted down with the aid of a layer of lime.
Alex is the king of huge projects and dynamic transformation 🙏🏽💕
Great transformation Alex. Wow so much trees/brush to contend with. Yes it is definitely an outhouse. I used an outhouse 55-58 years ago, in Union town PA. It was my grandmother's.
My grandparents, in town, had a toilet outside with bucket collection every morning early, but, grand parents on plot had one away from their house with spiders, snakes etc, and a fire oven by the back door so the kitchen and bathroom had hot water. That granddad was a water deviner, used a forked branch from his apple tree.
A proper old thunderbox no less! Noisy in a storm due to the traditional tin roof. I have a modern day version serving my visitors to my UK garden office. Simple to care for and always smelling sweetly of sawdust due to clever Scandinavian separation plate. Best loo ever! Thank you for helping this lady with her garden. 😁
Yes it is an outhouse. My mother grew up using one in the 1930's. As for the RC Cola bottle, those came out in the 1930's as well. Now they cost up to $25 per bottle. Great find and well done on the job.
Thank you for doing such a great job on that back yard. God bless.
Yes an epic transformation! Great transformation and video!❤️🙏
Oh my goodness what a job that was. I’m exhausted just watching but it was so much fun. Outhouses we’re still common in the 1950s in rural areas here in Texas.
What a huge transformation!
Great job, fun to watch. I love people like you that take their time to help others in need. Wish there more folks like you. You are a blessing! Hope your butt is okay.😁👍🙏
Sure, there was one growing up on the farm........40-50's. Dad eventually installed a bathroom with a tub! The farm life.....no big deal.
Absolutely, that's definitely an outhouse. We still have one on my dad's farm. Keep it maintained, and up, for out field workers, on the tractors or mowing hay, and need "to go" 😂 You have to put lime in the pits, to keep smell, and from filling up, every so often
When indoor plumbing and water was installed, they slowly became the thing of the past.
You found yourself an antique! 😂😂😂😂
Good transformation on your work!❤
Ah yes, Outhouse. Used them back in the day. Went out around the early seventies if I recall.
Usually had hand pumps for water outside and at the kitchen sink.
YES...rescue the BOTTLE!
It's a bit of history. ❤
As always, I have loved your content. From the day I first started watching! I was in the hospital for well over 11 days and the algorithm kicked me off from being able to see you and I kept scrolling through videos and found you and I'm glad I rediscovered again. Love the content as always and continue to do the excellent work that you do. Thank you
Ask for the outhouse. It all depends on when public or city water was available in that area cause long before there was city or public water. You had to drill your own Wells when there was a well. Wow, you didn't have flesh of water for an outhouse. It was just a hole that was dug and a shack was put over the top of it once. The while you know the whole fills up. They would Bury it move the shack and dig another hole and put it in its place. outhouse is never really went out and plumbing didn't just kind of get in the way it was just a matter of when an actual modern home was built-in the place of what was originally on that property.
Believe it or not, there are areas that still use out. Homes in the united states do have either a well that flushes all of their troubles away, but they have to pay for city/County sewer systems.
In your rural, backwoods areas alot of places never had electricity, running water or bathrooms even up to the 80’s. My grandparents had a house in Maine, no electricity, no plumbing and the dreaded outhouse. It cost to much money to run poles to these areas, so they went without. They pumped to get water, used kerosene lamps, very rustic, more than likely it is still like that in the extreme remote parts of places. There’s probably 100’s if not more in the backwoods of Tennessee still like this. Great job clearing the trees, great job on the yard.
Thank you. I can’t believe people still live like this. Thanks for commenting.
You sir, are a treasure and a blessing to those you help. You go above and beyond for these folks, thank you❤😊
Amazing transformation ❤❤
Yeh out door toilet I’m so glad that you had help there was a lot of tree to cut down can’t believe how much always a great job alex ❤
What an amazing job done!
My grandparents had one, but finally got an indoor sometime in the early 60's. Of course they were living way out in the country and were very poor. I remember using their outhouse when we visited as a youngster, (5-10-ish) (I'm 73 now). I remember the cold draft cooling the bottom in the winter time. That RC cola bottle was probably from the 50's or 60's.
This reminds me of my grandparents home up north, down in Florida we don’t see many like this. Thanks for sharing this Alex and good job.
Você é uma pessoa iluminada e abençoada. Lindo e perfeito trabalho. Amei ❤😊
That definitely looks like an outhouse. (Also called a privy) back in the 1920s they still used them. However, as far back as the early 1800’s when the privy was getting full, the owner tossed old bottles, dishes etc. in them, covered with lime and backfill dirt. Now days, MANY people look for the spot the privy was on to excavate and retrieve the old glassware and vintage items. ( there is good money in some of those privy’s, some bottles worth THOUSANDS! 😊
It is definitely an outhouse. I don't know what year they were replaced by modern facilities; but in rural areas they are commonly used in orchards and remote areas. They, for the most part, have been replaced by portable toilets. In the remote parts of the country, wooden outbuildings are used.
I was just listening to a podcast today about these guys who uncover old outhouses in Brooklyn, New York, of all places. It seems their locations were well documented in the 1800's. With permission from today's owner, they dig up the yard and discover old glass and pottery and marbles and porcelain doll heads and other treasures, along with the old wooden latrine. Fun & fascinating past time, I imagine.
Great work guys. What a change! Some public picnic areas still have outhouses like the property, albeit they have been maintained so still usable.
You had a jungle to clean up and you did a great job. Along with finding an outhouse on the property. Am amazing transformation. You are the best at going above and beyond. Thanks for helping this lady. God Bless you for caring.❤❤❤❤❤
You brighten there day by taking on the hardest job up for the challenge thank you 😊
This is a wonderful video, with some nostalgia thrown in. The outhouse is adorable, as is that wooden table. Your one-man job on this was extraordinary because it was an immense project.
My grandparents had an outhouse in use until the 1970's on their farm! In the 70's they had an indoor bathroom and tub put in. My parents also had an outhouse at their lake cabin until the early 2000's when code laws changed and it could no longer be used. An indoor bathroom was installed.
@bumble4342 I couldn’t agree more, awesome comment!
🤣👍
hubby's grandparents also had an outhouse and no electricity until the mid 70s. I should know the year since I sometimes forget and mention a tv show I watched as a kid, and he always reminds me of what year his grandparents had electricity and indoor plumbing in. only good news is he didn't walk uphill both ways in 3 feet of snow to go to school :D
Good job buddy. So so so good to see some new yard transformation content. Keep putting it on you tube!
Yep, that’s an outhouse. It depends when they could afford or were offered indoor plumbing in the home. There would be some historical treasure in that outhouse pit! Great find
It is sooo impressive the amount of work you put into every yard! You are AMAZING!!!
We rented an old farmhouse in Idaho in the 1980s that still had the two seater outhouse out back (and an indoor bathroom connected to a septic system). My boys would use the outhouse when they were out playing, since if they came in to use the toilet I might ask them to stay in! And the farmers who farmed the land behind our house would use it, too, and kept it supplied with toilet paper. We lived in that house until 1992, and it was still there. I doubt anyone removed it since it was still being used regularly.
That’s awesome. Thank you for sharing!
A two seater outhouse! No waiting just come in. Thats luxury! A family that ... um .... well thats a close family!
My kindergarten teacher grew up on a farm with a two seater. When the farm sold she got them to take the seat off and she took it with her and eventually made the most unique coffee table you can imagine. She put a round goldfish bowl in one side and magazines in the other. It was adorable. When she passed her sister threw it in the dump. She had always been so embarrassed by it. I asked about it because i wanted it but it was already gone.
@@robinchopra139 What a great family story! She sounded creative. No one would guess it was a toilet seat ! How funny! Thanks for sharing!
one was child sized.
@@sallylambert7552
Haha I love it. "This is crazy, look at this old outhouse. Anyway, back to work." It's also obvious how much you respect the owners and their property. This is what a community looks like, excellent work sir!
That was not a little to do, a lot of bushes and trees! Very good job! ❤❤❤❤❤
You got my subscription for both channels, today!!! I love everything you do and I’m sure everyone appreciates your hard work and thank you for helping so many people!!!😊
Thank you!
Yup. That’s an outhouse. My grandparents had one. I dreaded using it as a child. Most rural farms had one. Real scary place for a child. Lol. Beautiful job clearing the yard. The lady and her dog can now enjoy it. I like the drone shots. Hope your behind is t to sore after the fall😮😊❤
Yes, that definitely is an "outhouse". Undoubtedly has not been in use for many years, probably since when piped sewers came to the neighbourhood. Conceivably could still be used as a temporary "convenience" if there is a blockage in the main sewers. As a youngster going on holiday with my parents in the 50's and 60's to some places "way out", we had to use these facilities (seeing as there was nothing else). Water for washing and consumption was by way of rainwater collected in large tanks.
I am 69 years old, born and raised in the mountains of East TN (Polk County) and we had an outhouse and drew water from a well, heated water for baths on a wood stove, until the early 70s, when I was in high school. We finally moved to the "flatlands" in an old mill house that had indoor plumbing.
Outhouses are still very much in use to this day in many areas of the US.
That’s wild. Thank you for sharing. When I was in high school we played against Polk county in basketball.
My grandparents used their outhouse until 1970 when his arthritis got too bad to get up in the middle of a cold winter night.
We had a well to and a pump had to prime the pump but these kids think they have it soo hard.they don't no what hard is.went to school with holes in my sho es back when the heels were put on with nails so it was almost a relief when ur heel fell off cause u weren't getting the nails all the time jagging u
Yea I forgot abot that we had 4 rooms in a garage and we'd heat water on our wood pot belly stove in a basin so u could get washed.my poor mom had to go thru that for my dad.
I have a piece of property out in a small town and we all have wells oh my God so an outhouse would not be totally a thing of the past even to this day it just depends how far out you live how much you want to spend and deal with your ingenuity oh my God you yuba City slickers you think that it is such a foregone concept. I was in Germany as a child and lived in a village where outhouses were not uncommon and this was 1965 folks and you did not have hot running water you heated water in a water tank. This is why people have a hard time with Americans when you go to other countries is that there is more than one right way to live and this is what a missionary told me there's more than one way to do something and it's the right.
I enjoy your big transformations. You did an awesome job.
Wow! What an incredible transformation! Truly a blessing to that lady!!
It's an outhouse. In Nebraska, some places didn't get indoor plumbing as late as the 1940s and early 1950s. Also in some Nebraska state parks, they still use outhouses. Great Job on the yard! Awesome!
I know you were really tired at the end of the day, that was like cutting your way through a jungle. I wonder how long did it take you to complete this amazing transformation? It seemed like you were never to get through all the overgrown trees and bush, it was like first the fence line appeared, then the outhouse. Wow! Was the Lady surprised with your find in the yard? Honestly it didn’t seem to fit the age of her house, perhaps it was left from the next door neighbors house which seemed to be much older. Either way it was a find from an earlier time. This time you really had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the reveal at the end. You really opened up her yard and let the sun shine in.
Oh my stars and garters you cut down a mountain of vegetation 😳😳😳!! You definitely were the change on this property. Such a satisfying and fun video 😁. WELL DONE 🙌🙌🙌💯💚💚💚.
What a cool find! Awesome job.
Another nice transformation. That was a fairly intact outhouse. That R C bottle is a collectable. Good find.
You cleaned up a forest! Good job. What a difference this will make! Thanks for helping. Imagine an outhouse! Hope it didnt smell after so much time has passed. Yikes! 😘
I've never seen anyone that excited to see a backyard dunny before 😂😂. Nice one Wells 👍
My grandmother only had an outhouse when we were young in the 60’s. Definitely looks like an outhouse
I know the neighbors are happy with their new view.
I always enjoy your videos. This video was awesome bless you for what you do you will be rewarded!
Hi. Nice job on the yard . It was a great cut and clean transformation. You must be joking , that you have never seen or heard of an outhouse ! Toilets were very common in the country., or even small towns . Have a nice weekend . Take care . Deborah 🇨🇦
First one I’ve ever seen. I’m from the city and only 35 😊
What a nice job it looks completely different going to be a lot easier to maintain now.
My father bought a small home on 10 acres in Southern Illinois in 1948. It came with a well and a two-hole outhouse over 55-gallon drums. No running water in the house.
My dad replaced the 55-gallon drums while I was in high school.
Cold water was piped to the kitchen sink in about 1957. Before that we kept a bucket of water drawn from the well on the side of the sink. It was my job to keep that bucket full.
I graduated high school in 1961 and immediately left home. Indoor plumbing, toilets, and a hot water heater were added a few years later.
When I visited after graduation I continued using the outhouse. It was comfortable and familiar.
It was used regularly up until about 1998. My brother demolished it when cleaning up the place after my dad could no longer care for it.
I'm sure you'll still run across many, and probably still in use, in rural Midwestern states.
Thank you for transforming this massive property. You've accomplished a great feat that no one would have not believed that much greenery would extend back so far. Again, thank you for your kind heart in helping the elderly who are in much need. Kudos to you for a great job. 👍🏽👍🏽⭐️⭐️💙💙⭐️⭐️💯💯⭐️⭐️🙏🏽🙏🏽.
You’re doing so much work it’s wonderful what you’re doing for the community! ❤️
Helping out the elderly is so rewarding 🙌 ✨️ You are a gift from, God thanks for your Service.
Time stood still in that little out house. Cool find!!!!
The thing with an out houses not all families could afford plumbing so even into the 70' outhouses were still being used. Great find!
great transformation and a tremendous amount of work done by you. Appreciate your kindness and generosity toward others.
I have never seen someone so excited about an outhouse before! 😂
This has to be the most intensive, most thorough clean-up I've seen. That fence area with all those trees was amazing🎉 Most of the other guys would not do such a detailed cutting of the brush/trees, instead they just trim them up even when said trees are obscuring the house or main building. Such a fantastic job👏👏👏👍👍
You did a wonderful job on this! My grandparents had a out house that we'd have to use. They finally built a bathroom on,but my grandma kept going using the out house,so my grandpa finally shoved it over the hill!😂 On the way over to see them there was a old store that had a pop machine in it that held those wonderful pops & sometimes we'd stop & get one. That's when a pop was at it's wonderful taste! Nothing like a bottled pop. My favorite was Mt.Dew! In a bottle like you found! Then they started making 16oz bottles & I'd grab one out of the fridge when I came home from school. Those were the best years of my life! We were kids& we didn't realize the world would change so much!
Yes, my relatives had outhouses both in the North (New York) and in the South (North Carolina and Florida). This is a golden moment in history Al.
Wow, just wow! You sure don't shy away from work!
Definitely an outhouse. Here in Wisconsin they were used at roadside rest stops through the 1960s. However they were made of cement block and were 2 holers.
I remember the roadside rest areas having them. And State parks also.
I’m a bit disappointed that the outhouse wasn’t a two-seater. 😄 We got our first indoor toilet when I was 12, so that was in the early 1960’s. I was so excited!
Wow, what a great job you did on this place. Thank you so much for helping this woman. God bless you and yours from Yuma Arizona.
Wow, that was a lot of work! That back yard doesn't even look like the same yard.
Growing up in 1970's, I frequently visited a neighbor's cabin in Wisconsin that was built in the 20's. It did not have any running water. We bathed in the lake, and pumped water for drinking and cleaning up. It had a 2-seater outhouse out yonder in the back. The worst part was the spiders that thing would attract. Someone had to sweep it out every morning. One summer when I was an older teen, the hole was too full and a new hole had to be dug, a few feet further down the path. That was a hot sweaty job that I watched other people do. But it needed to done - you could smell the old spot all the way down at the lake until it was replaced!
Save it, it's history. How wonderful. Way to cool.
What A transformation so much Hard work you did nice of you for helping this woman out Awesome job
Haven't seen an outhouse in 55yrs. Magnolia, Mississippi. My great grandparents house. Yeah, it was still functional. From what I could see of that bottle it was from 1955. There is a YT channel that digs up old outhouse sites for the bottles. Followed him for a while but got bored with it. He knows all about bottles if you can find him. Great video, thanks for sharing.
My grandparents had an outhouse until the mid 60’s. A friend rented a house in the 80’s with an outhouse. They are still used in some rural areas. 😊❤ Sounds like someone may have been a squatter in that old outhouse. It looks like the neighbor’s property is as overgrown as hers. 😂😂
You work so hard and do such a great job, I really enjoy viewing your site and I always watch to the end. Thankyou for being such a caring person
I am Cathy raised in central Oklahoma. We we share cropping. Working some body land for 2/3 rd the profit. We had a well house where we. Took a bath. No hot water. We heated water in a little stove in the house. It was a old two story house with no insulation. Was so cold in the winter. Had one stove down stairs to heat the whole house. When we needed Togo to the bathroom it was a small but with a deep hole and a wood box with a hole in the middle of the box to set over and do your business. We did always have toilet paper so mama put catalogs and news papers. When we work the fields we would find abush and wipe with weeds.
We were poor but most people was in late 1950 an part of the sixtys. We finally got a porch put on the side of the house with running water and a tub and a washer in the house. We that we are rich now. It was so nice to be inthe house Togo to the restroom and wash:❤️
Super 😃 ficou lindo 👏👏 amei ❤ que Deus te abençoe 🙏 sucesso 💝
That was a lot of work. It looks great!
That was alot of hard work. Good job ❤
Thank goodness your back another great start to my week ,know your appreciated and I look forward to more video's.ty
I was born in 1943 and we had indoor plumbing. However, in the early 50’s we moved to my Grandmothers house and she was still using an outhouse. Quite a shock to say the least!!! All my friends had indoor plumbing and it was an embarrassing situation. As I aged, I understood more and realized that my Grandma had a hard life. I believe that those experiences shaped me for the better.
I wish we had people like yourself and the other youtube people that do this in western n.c.
That was a beautiful video, I love it, all is open and sunlight can come in. Job so well done, thank you my dear❤😊
The last time I ever used one was in the 1960's. This brings back some wonderful memories!
The RC cola, I know it was in the 60’s but might go back as far as the 50’s ! I’m only 63 but we had plumbing those days, we had a old grocery store to and my job was to stack the soda bottles in the old wooden coke crates out back of the store! Kids would bring bottles in that they found in ditches and everywhere to collect some money for exchange! You could probably stock your pantry for 10.00 back then and now groceries cost 500.00 for a month, it’s insane now! Thanks for sharing my friend! Kirk from Louisiana, sending prayers and good vibes to you and your family! God Bless you for what you’re doing for others! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸🙏🏻🇺🇸
Love you guys! God Bless you!
Outhouses were very familiar in the 50's - it depended on where you lived. The country was common. What a find.
Okay your excitement over the out house made me giggle just a little and yes I remember those. Be Blessed ❤
Great work Alex! Looks like you had a handsome helper!
You are a very young man! And a hard worker. Yes sir, that is an out house.❤
What did you do at work today? Oh, I just cut down a FOREST and discovered an outhouse…what did you do?😉😳😁 That was amazing!!!! Great work, as always! Bless you and your family and take care!!❤
That is absolutely an outhouse!
Nice to see you have help❤
I'm 86 and when I was a child they were still around, I didn't like them then. I believe I only used them maybe a couple times. Glad for the indoor toilets. Harriet
Fantastic yard improvement.
