It's always more fun to ride a slow vehicle fast than a fast vehicle slow.
Hey man, if it has two wheels & a motor, count me in! Brakes optional.
100% agree. My friends always make fun of me saying a Miata is way more fun than an STI. They just don't get it. I have a CRF450RL that I am not skilled enough to shred on. This I could definitely hold my own on and even improve my skills enough to ride the CRF faster. I have that bike so I can get to the desert and camp without loading it in a truck, so there's a trade-off. It can definitely be a handful off road for someone with my limited skill set.
Exactly
I went to my local Honda dealer ready to buy this XR 150. They wanted $4500 out the door ... I told them NO THANKS. Who in their right mind pays that high a premium?
Love my XR150, lots of fun to ride. Great addition to my garage. Been riding since the 60's.
i love how simple this bike is, I feel like new stuff is just too overcomplicated sometimes, sometimes its just more things to break. this style of honda bikes are so bulletproof
It's too powerful for you.
the XR150L, along with CRF150L, is one of the most invincible bike, very reliable and dependable especially in rural areas, in the Philippinees. only cost less than $1,700.
The guy at the dealer handling the DMV paperwork on mine gave me a dirty look and said "Really?" when I declined the extended warranty and prepaid maintenance package he tried to push on me. I said this is a Honda that will probably outlast me since I'm 60.
It's not $1700 but $2700!
@@lightweight3908 im very clear, it's the price in the Philippines.. 😊
@@lightweight3908PH gets a market price adjustment down because of relative wages.
Now the price has risen to 1800 usd (98000 pesos), but you can find left over bikes for 92000 pesos.
ALEX .. Love the POV rides... ... More Racing please..your good at it.....Have a good day everybody ✌️
I bought this as a commuter bike. Drive it almost everyday just 12 miles on surface streets. Just changed the oil. I have no complaints.
Nice job. POV trail riding looked great.
Modern small engine bikes have completely changed my mind when it comes to what i thought I needed!? Especially when it comes down to riding off road!? I love it! 🙏🤷🏼♂️🫶
Very enjoyable video. Thanks for all of your hard work.
Very good review of the bike. Really helpful. Thanks
Nice work Alex!
Really great video! I did cross country 3 times in Cambodia on a bike like this. 13 days, 10 days, and a week. Dunno the mileage or kilometers covered, but it was over 900 miles on the 1st trip if I remember correctly.
Thank you, Alex, nice seeing you in front of the camera. Great detailed review. You and Kase should spend a weekend riding and repairing with 2Vintage in Wisconsin
Reminds me alot of my 70's dual sport. Small bore, dual sport, low cost, decently fuel efficiency (my carb needs a bit of work, but I'm getting close to 35-40mpg) and a great starter bike.
I used to get 60 plus on a Yamaha SR500 , you should get more then that ????
@@alaingillot4718 I did some work on the carb and got it back up to 55mph. It has a high-low gear box, which is why it's top is so low. It's the perfect dirt road bike though.
I get 90mpg easy on this honda 150..
35-40mpg is quite terrible for this engine deplacement
I think you did a great review. Thank you.
I’ve been waiting for a solid street /trail review on this bike. Thanks
Great content
Neat ride thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this review! I just recently purchased a XR650L at a authorized dealer. I ride the interstate a lot. At the same time I want a bike I putt around town. The XR650L has a seat height of 37” and 11” of travel. 13” of ground clearance so it’s a tall bike. I love the 650 but after seeing the review I want to get a 150 to add to collection. Awesome small displacement bike and ride safe!
Great video
This bike is exactly what I'm looking for.
This video did it right!! Thank you
Totally agree with this review. Added to my garage and my 14 year old daughter is learning how to ride it. Super fun grocery getter.
Great Video
You can also up the speed by swapping your carb, exhaust, and sprockets. That'll get you a lot closer to 70 on flat.
Why on this small bike
@@cjm8172 why make anything go faster

Nice review
I have a crf 250L, and a cb 500X. But for riding on the small farm and going to the neighbors my XR 100 is alot of fun.
I love your spin on it being slow. "So you can really look around and enjoy the scenery" lol
I've been waiting for you guys to do a video on this one, and have been shamelessly gobbling up content on it from several other channels. Its seems like it could be a great first bike, and at a price thats a little easier to justify to the wife.
Solvang has a nice little motorcycle museum too. (At least they did in the early 2000's when I was there)
Bought one in April in east tx. I got the black one. They sold it for 2799.00. Kind of fun machine. I got it for a nephew to come ride I’m 6’3 and 230# and it’s still fits me, i like the small nibble machine.
Got mine in Baytown Eastside Honda for 4400
@@gabriela.2526 Mine was 4200 in Phoenix
@@gabriela.2526 man. Yeah, I got mine at H&W motorsports in Palestine.
I rode a crf150 on the street/dirt for a summer when I was a teenager and although it was extremely slow it was a ton of fun for what it was. I also had an rmz250 for when I actually wanted to go fast offroad but I spent more time on the 150 since I could take it on backroads without getting the cops called on me lol
i really like this bike, so simple and honda saved money in the right spots while still having quality where its needed. Id 100% consider one of these for a around town commuter, also air cooled is awsome. Im curious to see how much power you could get out of that motor with some upgrades, carb, exhaust, intake. would be nice to get it to cruise 60 comfortably and I feel that's possible from a 150
well bud. since the engine has been around for literal decades in some parts of the world. namely asia. the aftermarket for these things are insane.
big bore with longer stroke crank can easily double the capacity to 300cc, and that's only for plug and play parts, not custom modified ones. cams are aplenty too. and exhaust can be anything you imagine. it can take the simple 13hp engine up to 30-40hp or more depending on how aggressive the cams and tunes are
I just bought one in Argentina, amazing bike, really fun to ride
I’m so happy to have this as my first bike 🏍️ it suits me perfectly been struggling to find a good fit. Size, Height, Weight…
Tried the Harley’s but had a hard time managing the Weight. Plus I wanted something to take on the trails. Maybe one day I’ll get my dream Harley. but this Honda is perfect! I hope to have my Honda for many years. 🎉
Interested how the stock tires do in sand and heavier dirt riding or what the best after market tire mid would be
Awesome video. I have one of these and a honda pcx 150. Both very economical, light and handy and i bought both for less money than one 500 cc honda lol.
I have a triumph daytona 675 for trackdays (roadlegal, semislicks) but other than that all i drive is 150's lol.
Great video on the new Honda Dual Sport! However, please turn that right turn signal off! :) Well, you finally figured it out.
Great review. I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison with the TW200. I think they are after the same market, and similar capabilities.
took my MSF on a TW200, super fun little bike
$2000 more
@@The1stDukeDroklar Just get a used dr200... tons of fun.
Just bought this as my first motorbike. 4200 out the door. Stoked to take delivery
Hell yea man welcome to the club, hope your XR is treating you well so far
Solvang CA is such a gorgeous area, reminds me a lot of another big wine making area, Tuscany in Italy.
Mind blown, I wish we got something like this in europe but it's impossible due to carbs. I'd buy this for 3 grand all day long, and according to comments it's sold in asia for much less too. Capable, affordable, reliable and cheap motoring, excellent
Very cool Dual Sport thinking of getting one for those reasons but evetime the dealers around me get them in they sell before I get to see one very popular little bike around here.
That's really tempting.
Thank you for mentioning about the hawk because I on the hawk and I said the same thing to myself that the XR looks just like the hawk now I feel like better about buying an XR
Cancel the turn signal, activate the high beam. It's a great bike and I'm ready for the 600mi. service. Fun little ride.
Great video. Love this bike. I have a CRF250L and my wife wants a bike to join me on my back road rides in the rural area where we live in Ohio. This would be a great bike for her! Thanks for sharing
Hopefully dealers will get some inventory some day so we can look and try them.
I’ve owned my xr150 since 2019 it’s a great bike for the money. I paid $1711.00 out the door brand new.
You did well Alex. Trail riding/dirt will give you a heck of a work out. lol Road bikers don't truly get the experience until they have done it on the dirt. A lot of stabilizer muscles people don't even know they have are taxed doing that. You should get a proper dirt bike and utilize that for the fun and workouts while you are young enough to appreciate it. The seat height on this is a bit too tall for me. And I am no longer a fan of air cooled. Merely because I have had both and it is a dog on hot days. Not to mention I don't need the added heat coming off the fins on me. However, that being said, I agree with you. It would make for a very nice starters bike. Good for taking the road course test on for a motorcycle license too. Having small nimble bikes makes the obstacle course a breeze.
I'm 70, & 2 days ago I was riding washed out fire roads for 3 hours. Still sore!
That 32” seat height is going to drop considerably once anyone of average weight gets on the bike. I had a Yamaha XT250 with a 32” seat and it was easily 30” once sitting on it.
@@scotteger6271 I would be happy with 32" seat. My CRF250L is a couple inches higher. When I can, I park next to a curb to stand on so I can throw my right leg over.
I'd likely buy one within the next few weeks, but, check it out: 1 local dealer's price is $5,250, and others are also asking for more than $1,000 over MSRP for "dealer mark-up." Some Honda dealers have really become scumbags. This never happened when I bought my Hondas back in the 1970s.
Bought xr150l 2 months ago and love it. Drive it to work and around town. I get a consistent 88mpg, my top speed is 55mph and I’m 230lbs. It’s quiet, snappy in lower gears.
I weigh 180 and my 1st ride was very disappointing speed and power wise. Top speed most of the time was 47 48 and a few times on downgrades I reached 50. Was also sputtering near my top speeds. Feel like I've bought a lemon.
@@Smith.Wesson.432UCcheck your carburator. You can also upgrade to a 27mm carb. If you live in the US they cost around 26 bucks, and will give you more power than the stock. Worth a try
Bro im 100 pounds lighter than you and my XR150L is screaming in top gear at 30mph how tf are you getting it to 55
@@jackbuckleyautoMaybe your carb needs to be adjusted for altitude?
@@jackbuckleyauto something is really wrong if your topped out on a 150 and only going 30, my crf110 will hit 30 easily lmao, I'm 150 lbs
I'm curious as well can you jump the bike? I know with the Hawk 250 if you jump it you can taco the front wheel and bend the swing arm. Is the Honda sturdy enough to jump?
I've been waiting for this bike to show up in showrooms. It might be hard not to swipe my debit card and buy a brand new motorcycle.
I used my credit card so that I can use the miles to buy some accessories like better mirrors and some bigger foot pegs and saddle/tank bags.
Cool love that cheap but what is the displacement? Love the analog gauge great review bud
150cc
Looks good
Just got mine 3/23/24 . Out the door price $3800 . It is a nice bike
Something that isnt talked about anywhere on this bike. It has the EXACT SAME power to weight as a 2023 honda Grom. so it is basically just a grom for taller people. I originally wanted a grom but this is cheaper and I wont look so goofy on it at 6ft tall and fits everything I need it to do. Don't let anyone tell you that "you need a bigger bike, you will regret getting just a 150" get what you want and what fits your needs. Motorcycles are meant to be fun! just like the old saying goes, I'd rather go fast in a slow car than slow in a fast car.
Hopefully this thing will available in my country
Everybody always has to mention "when I was in college." Pretty much why I stay home and watch old untouchables episodes.
Great review! I had a brand new XR150L that I bought in the Philippines back in January 2020.
The price was 1650 USD on the road.
I did some minor mods, like lowering the front mudguard, putting an extra mudflap to protect the engine from excessive mud. I installed a skid plate under the engine, and removed the original 24mm carburetor and installed a 27mm XR200 carb on it, and a big bore cylinder Ø63,5mm that made it a 183cc bike. Removed also the rubber over the air intake box to have more airflow to it. Then I installed a LED lamp at the front as an extra light source, and a 12v charge device. A top box was also mounted. Otherwise it was perfect!
Amazing bike indeed!
By the way, it seems as though the US models has a 22mm carburetor. Remove it and check the diameter of the intake. On my bike it was 27mm, so it was just very logic to install a 27mm carb for more power.
I suggest US owners change to a larger carburetor too if you want some more grunt. But the biggest difference was when I put on the big bore cylinder. Plug and play!
The models in the Philippines have the engine built in Japan according to some rumors, the frame built in Thailand, and some parts coming in from China.
The US models are assembled in Mexico, and this bike has been sold for many years in South American countries, and also in Australia. A similar bike was the XR125 that was sold even in Europe.
How much was the big bore kit and where in there Philippines can I get it please?
What was the top speed with the mods you did to it?
Thanks for the video. I am looking for something to replace the Monkey i had with.
What rpm is the engine spinning at while cruising at 55 mph, and how far can one go on one tank of gas before one hits reserve?
Ok Alex, make sure you tell all the good folks out there that the bike prices are “starting out” under 3K. Fees and taxes are always part of anything with a vin number. If you are paying over retail and just can’t wait, we’ll good luck.
Alex, you and I have to talk about a build on a XR150. Hmmm, kind of like my 03’ CRF150f (171cc monster)?
Something along the lines of Dr. Evil’s laughter?
Sand is super fun on the XR for me. You can "swim" it by like shifting the weight of your hips
Is there any other light (650 & under) off road oriented bike that's as comfortable as this one? Trying to weigh my options of something more powerful but still light to test ride since I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs but seat comfort seems to be hard to get and that's my #1 priority along with low vibration long as it'll get me down the road for back road cruising and off road here and there but easily for rough rocky stuff. I don't hardly stand and ride as I'm an explorer not a motocross rider. I'm no beginner either but was looking at something better balanced and way less top heavy than a klr650 which sadly would even include an Africa twin 1100. 09 Klr 650 I had was just sooooo top heavy & uncomfortable for very long riding cause the seat was just too hard I guess even though it was wide. Even tried a custom corbin (or maybe it was seat concepts) can't remember good, but nope
I bought one of these back in 2015
What do you use for a mic set up?
Questions. I have a Honda Monkey too set up for off road. I love the bike but I retired and moved to northern Wi where trails are all over from my door, which means I’m riding off road 95% of the time and my Monkey is getting hammered, plus those 12” wheels can be deadly.
So my questions are, is the XR noticeably better off road then the Monkey, and does it have 5 more mph in it then the Monkey?
I’m eager to hear your response.
Thank you.
Mike
Santa ynez is a great ride for sure, great wine also
When I go to college in a couple months I think I may buy one partially just because the buy in is so cheap and insurance will likely follow suit. Also, I would love to learn how to offroad on this while I wait save for a proper ADV in the future.
Clutch Modulation? I rode a new 150L a few days ago, it was fun but the clutch modulation was Horrible! Its like a switch on or off no modulation. How was the clutch on the bike you rode?
Have you clocked it with gps? Most of those speedometers are off. I'd be curious to see if the top speed on it is accurate?
I'm also curious how it differed from the Hawk 250? I know you said it felt much better but can you give any specifics?
I own a Raven which is a Chinese bike just like the Hawk.
They are fairly accurate, at least the ones i experienced while living in central America were. Fun little bikes!
Mine was 3500 out the door Sedalia Missouri getting 100 mpg will post all my custom mods and updates on my channel later this week. Great bikes I bought my first new bike in 1974 Yamaha ty80 and this xr150L gives me the same fun levels from my childhood!

AWESOME review, THANK YOU ! I wish the Monkey was cheaper, maybe i'll have to consider this bike instead.
Just got one for my 17 yr old to learn how to ride on. And it's been the best investment I've made in a long time. The whole family rides it and I'm in the market for another one
I'm wanting a grom so bad cuz they look fun but so do these

What small bike Would handle LA's 405?
Its very comfortable..neutral...fun...looks good...282 lbs..
Is it possible to change this to automatic or no?
stater spark? or computer controlled?
Fair, open minded review.✌🏾
I wonder why Honda decided to launch the 150L instead of the 190L in the US, here in Mexico we have both for a long time now and they both prove to be super reliable..
Looks good as a second, "kick around" bike.
In NZ Honda marketed these as farm bikes
What trail is that? It's nice!
Most dealerships around here have no Hondas, a few of these at full MSRP plus freight and setup adds another 1000$ better off buying a nice used bike or ship it to my door and let me assemble it to save the 600$ "assembly fee". why pay for it to be made twice anyway.
