The 362 is a light chainsaw for it's displacement. Compare it to the MS311, which is basically the homeowner's version of the 362, and you'll realize how light the 362 is. I own both. They are both 59cc. Additionally, for those of us that have worked chainsaws since we were old enough to carry one, we know you have different saws for different purposes. Overhead saws, limbing saws, felling saws, etc. The 362 and 311s are medium sized saws great for general purpose use. You can both fell and limb with them without killing yourself. Pick up a MS880 magnum with a 36" bar and you'll realize what a heavy saw is. As far as battery powered saws, don't waste your time if you're cutting firewood. If you're a homeowner and need one for occasional use, they're fine. I tested a major brand electric saw, and for it to handle an outing of firewood cutting compared to a gas saw with a jug of gas, I would have needed about 14 batteries.
@The Trashman I love my 311 and my 362. Basically the same saw. You'd be happy with either, but the 310/311 are a bit heavier, but also significantly cheaper.

The older 362's (non-Mtronic) are superior saws. If you can find an older used one in great shape that's a better way to go than buying a new one. The new ones aren't made as well and won't last as long as even an old one that's been properly maintained or not used much. The 362 is a smart choice for an all-around professional chainsaw.
I'm glad to see that your daughter, the one who had the heart issues, is doing much better now. I pray that she can keep progressing and lead a normal healthy life. I totally enjoy your channel and it's diverse topics. I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

I've just started tree surgery training. Doing climbing courses soon. Somebody bought me a MS362 to start off. I'm very gratefull. Love one of your t shirts!
I bought mine second hand 4 years ago, still perfect. It's been serviced multiple times, had the handle bar replaced and had a no start once in that time, overall well made saw.
22 years in the fire service, on the rigs you will find Sthils, on wildland fires that is all you will see here in the US. On the bigger fires you will find a Sthil service truck for any repairs/replacements. My 362 was purchased when they first came out, great saw and power for the 5 cords I burn each year.

I bought mine 4 months ago for $825.00.
Power to weight ratio is insane. Pants are a must with that saw. I put a 20" bar on it and it laughs at white oak.

I recently bought a new MS362 R, non-M-Tronic, wrap handle saw with 25" bar. It was $820, which is the MSRP for the saw.

I’ve always had stihl chainsaws personally, and I completely agree that they’re worth the money. I will say I have accumulated other brands of saws and I’ve also come to like the husqavarna for limbing/shaving trees almost better than the smaller stihl saws.
I've owned an MS 362 for a decade (maybe more) and I agree, whole heartedly, with your assessments both positive and negative regarding this machine. It's a boss in both power and weight. I need to get me a smaller, electric saw.
This is a good saw, i have two. One has the 25" bar for bigger wood. Don't believe him about battery saws, they are junk. Most battery anything is rubbish, unless you're cutting pine, which is what he appears to be doing. It isn't that heavy, he is definitely a city priss.
I have a MS 362CM(6 or 7 yrs old)running either a 20” or 24” bar and chain. Having the same problem with the oil & gas caps. Stihl replaced it when it was new(dealers couldn’t get the diagnostics programs from Stihl)to help they troubleshoot my original saws problem.
Chainsaws should be just big enough to get the job done. Guys saying they got a MS660 for doing firewood are not that bright... I have MS390, 036Pro and a MS230 for the small stuff. A battery operated will probably be my next purchase.

Love my stihls. I’ve got 261cm 362,462’s and 661 all 2019. I’ve run the crap out of them. We own 121 acres of land and cut almost daily. The 261 and 462 are my go to. I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to chainsaws. I don’t do plastic saws. The pro saws just last forever and easier to keep up. Especially the. New ones. My 462 is a pound heavier than your 362 and it’s got 6hp. It’s a fun saw to run.
Awesome and I agree 100% I've owned the cheap saws years ago and they were horrible, weak and hard to start ..the opposite of my stihls
Stihl rates their saws HP as brake horse power where other man use regular hp ratings. Brake HP gives the appearance of having a little more hp than how other manufacturers do it.
I've always bought my stihls used for half price or less at pawn shops. I've got a ms441c that I've had since 2013 that I bought for $450 and a 2009 ms310 that I bought for $225 that I've owned since 2014. I cut around 5 cord a year and theyve served me well. Dont discount the homeowner and garm and ranch saws. I know many guys who've been using the same ms250,ms290,or ms390 for almost 20 years cutting alot of wood. Ate the pro saws better? Yes,of course they are,but alot of folks can do just fine without em. Speaking only of my ms441cm, it's a bear to work on around the carburetor and stuff. Its definitely not rebuild friendly.
I have the exact same saw and it's only used for firewood maybe - MAYBE - 10 hours a year. I've had it for about 6 years. It's never been dropped from the truck or otherwise abused. But this thing has been giving me hard time - I already rebuilt the carburetor 3 years ago but it never had stable idle and choked when throttle is open gently. Now it won't start at all - it keeps flooding so it looks like the new carburetor is in order. For a [allegedly] professional chainsaw, it's unacceptable. I have a small - also stihl - cheap chainsaw that has been very reliable and has not given me any trouble. Both use the same gas, same oil.
As far as electric saws go, I have two Makitas - one small one-hand that takes one battery, the other one - bigger with two batteries. I love them but don't expect long runtime. They are fine for branches/brush but not for trees, even smaller ones.
My foreman had his boots oiled more than once courtesy of those finicky caps. Never had the issue on other series, just the 300s. Good video.
I agree with the pros in this video but he seems to be reaching hard for cons. I don't find the 362 particularly heavy, especially with a 20" bar (or shorter). I really don't notice the weight (unless I'm carrying it for a mile) and I'm not all that big a guy. Also, any decent saw these days in going to cost you, but you'll ultimately pay more for cheaper saws that don't last. I don't recommend an electric saw unless you're a suburban Suzie Homeowner. Electric saws are crap.

I bought this saw in an emergency situation. it crushed everything I threw at it. however, with the 25" blade was taxing as the day wore on. I now have the 20" and I am hoping for relief.
My 251 is a great saw for light work. Hard to beat.
My 362 is for heavier work.
I bought saw pants after using that saw for 30 seconds. It's a beast.
Looking at two of the new M-tronic saws, either the MS 261 C-M (18" bar) or the MS 362 C-M (20" bar) for acreage use (limbing, firewood, etc...).
I've heard the Kevlar chaps won't stop most battery powered saws.
I own a ms362c myself and I agree it's a great saw. The weight is ok. Maybe I gotten used it from the past 17 years of wood cutting

My boss has a 170, 194, 250, 311, and the 362. We use the 194 for just about everything up top. The the 250 for the larger limbs and the 362 for the trunks.

@@Homesteadhow the 194 t is really nice for climbing its got enough power to get through any thing that the bar can cut through. Its also a top handle saw so you can use it one handed.
love my sthils for last 30= years recently got a husqvarna 550 xp. ford or chevy I guess both good I have a sthil 261 and love it those caps are touchy for me too Thanks

I have a ms 311 and a mean 038mag2 that is 72cc and it has loads of torque and a 028super that I love that is great with a 18 inch bar it is very powerful for its size

My 362 broke and I am looking for videos to fix it. It is acting like piston is seizing. Last I used it it was pointing down when I was cutting a huge log in half. 😢
Great video, honest and informative -suggestions for other saws e.g. battery powered saws and lighter saws for branches etc. to reduce MSK strain. I do the same, I have a Jonsered CS 2250 with 13" bar for small trees, branches etc. (Jonsered is cheap version of Husqvarna same kit just cheaper brand name). My MS 362 is my got to saw for larger felling. I've has 2 large Husqvarna saws, both had cylinder /compression meltdown/loss and are now useless requiring an expensive rebuild.

I have a bad back, so I completely get it the weight issue. I learned a long time ago to, within reason, use the smallest chainsaw you can to get the job done properly and safely.
I'll fell and buck up larger trees with my 365 X-Torq (71cc) then switch to my NE 346XP (50cc) when I can. Want to get something in between my current saws. Looking at the MS362 and 562XP.
The best thing to have before spending $800 on a Stilh chainsaw is a 20 year old Poulan chainsaw that "still" cranks after 20 years. Because the Stilh saw will fail you after 6 months, then after 1 year, 1.5...etc. Stilh having trouble with my MS [POC} 362 after 3 solenoid changes and now have a 2 yr old Stilh setting dead on a table.
I’ve had my MS362 for a few years longer than you, and I’ve cut about 95-105 cord over the past 8 years. Mostly with that saw. I like the Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener as well. The 362 has enough power to drive a dull chain if you do hit the dirt with it. The bar oil cap should be replaced if it leaks oil (fill it and sit the saw on a piece of cardboard for a week, if it has oil on the cardboard, it is likely the cap). You paid a good bit more for your saw than you should have. It currently sells here for considerably less than the $800 you mentioned.....considerably less

The Pferd CS-X sharpener costs a bit less, and is the same as the Stihl 2-in-1, ...actually the Stihl one is made under license from Pherd.
It is flat out simple to use, and gets great results. It files down the depth gauge to the correct level at the same time. Make sure to get the one for the chain that you have.

I've had Stihl saws in the past, not a big fan. We use Dolmar/Mikita saws and are very happy. We also use Dewalt cordless chainsaws at work in our construction business and they work great! I have taken them to the cabin to clear trails and they are awesome! But as you all know they would not work well over the long haul to cut all the wood needed to supply our wood stoves for the winter. Sorry to ram le on, just my thoughts. Although in true fairness to Stihl a little bit, I have never had a NEW stihl saw. Love the channel and the concise short videos! Stay safe and have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Go treat yourself to a new STIHL MS261, MS362, or the new MS400. You will become a convert to the church of the Orange and White.
Stihls and makita/dolmar are great saws. Sadly the makita are all but gone. I used to run a makita dcs520i as my small saw and loved it. Sadly I was having trouble finding suitable parts and junked it. A 50cc and 70cc stihl is a wonderful combination and will last anyone a good long while.

Just bought my first chainsaw today. My best friend's dad was a lumberjack in Vermont for many years, he'll only buy Stihl saws - that's a good enough recommendation for me. My friend recommended the MS-170 but I wanted something a little more powerful so I went with the MS 271 Farm Boss with a 20" bar. I'm using it on my mother-in-law's property for storm downed trees (and any future ones), cedar fence posts, etc. No firewood so a pro model would be way more than I need and more than I can comfortably afford. The 20" 271 was $420 so definitely not cheap but I wanted something dependable over the long term.
Are those chaps a good investment? It gets pretty hot and damned humid during summers in TN but if it prevents an injury I'd be willing to sweat a little more.

What do you think about the stihl ms 391
After 15 years my MS 310 is just getting stubborn when it gets over heated, so I just bought a MS 362. Looking forward to using it. I’ll keep the MS 310 as a backup.
2 possibilities MS 310. 1st pull muffler to see if scored. Other possibility ignition coil fading. Many saws use same coil, if so t try swapping. If possible vapor lock, release gas cap
I ran my ms310 on an Alaskan mill and had heat problems. I did a muffler modd and returned the carb and it never happened again. The coils are heat sensitive too,and itll cause premature failure. Lots of videos on muffler mods for these saws,just make sure ya retune that carb.

I have a ms362, it's a good saw for all round use. Mine is pre M-Tronic. I don't find it too heavy, comparable to most 60cc saws. As far as electric saws, I think your dead wrong, unless you already own power tools that can use the same battery. (some electric saws are $1000) The decent ones are very expensive and as with all electric power tools the battery will fail and render the tool useless as the batteries are just as expensive as the tool itself. A better option is a small homeowner saw. it will last for over 20 years with a small amount of maintenance. I've replaced many drills due to battery failure, and it was cheaper to buy a new drill than a battery. I have some saws that were made in the 80's, i doubt the electric chainsaws of today will last that long.
I have one. Too heavy. I always go back to the smaller saw since I can do more cuts without breaking my body down
I learned the hard way that if your cutting Aussie hardwood you need a commercial quality saw. I have the M362 to fill the gap between my magnum 660 and my old yard hack 009. Like the man said. Easy to start, reliable, tough and my God it's powerful. Very torquey.
Do treat that power with respect.
It's a tad heavy but that's the price you pay for a very high quality saw.
I do have a battery powered Stihl too for fallen branches and pruning. I like it for what I use it for but the chain is not very tough and will not last long.
Chainsaws are like Chisels. You really need a full set if you can afford it. Bush life !
I have a ms362i like it runs fine until it gets warms up then it runs wide open does anyone have a idea what could be wrong with it
Just got my own and man does it have some power. Upgrade from a MS 250, which is a great saw too. I'm with you, I will be using my MS 250 more for cutting up the tree and limbs, but sometimes you just need more power.
I have the MS362MC MS461 that is Barkerized a 40 year old O32AV that still cuts good and a MS210c which I picked up cheap to take hunting! The reliability of the Stihl saw for me has been great as I’ve owned a Husky or two but???

My father in law has a stihl the only issue he has ever had with it is a filter getting clogged with sawdust, but replacing it fixed that issue quickly
I run a 24” bar on mine when it’s sharp it’s the bolocs

i love my 661 and i do everything with it using a 36 bar i just find cutting with the bar standing up is so great you can brace the saw on your hip and just cut away without breaking your back
It’s heavy cuz it has ballz !!! I don’t need a 68cc saw if u have this. And it can pull a 24 inch bar no problem !!

Re: your comment on battery saws. Nope!! Especially if you're bucking and limbing for the wood boiler. Not enough power and batteries conk out in the cold.
I have a 362c . If you had 1 saw, this is it! With more saws though, I mostly use 50cc and then jump to 70cc or 90cc so I don't use the 60cc as much
I am ok with batteries for small hand tools, but nothing else. The batteries just cost to much and the seldom last over two years in high capacity draw situations, as found with chainsaws and other bigger power equipment.
Just got the 362 at a yard sale for $225 with a organ bar and 2 chains. When I say it I got it right away 😂

So...... How much did the Save the Planet pay you to say that, about the battery operated saw? Because I know saws and can most assuredly tell you they have nowhere the power to weight ratio or cut as many branches as a gas saw. So how much?
I don't use a battery saw nor was my goal to save the planet. My friend is a world famous chainsaw artist and formerly worked a tree crew. He owns about 15 saws and he's told me the latest battery saws out perform gas
You won't see me changing out any of my gas powered Stihls for battery operated ones anytime soon

Great pros and cons. My ryobi 18” does ok with juniper but it’s more of a limb saw. Looking for a a stronger trunk cut and will check out Stihl for a long term option

Od modela 5000 pa nadalje je sve ok. Ja bi ti preporucio 6100 ili ovaku sto ja koristim 7900. 6100 model je 60ccm oko 3.5kw...a model 7900 je 79ccm 4.3 kw....i nemoj žalit dobrog ulja za mjesavinu stavljaj čisti sintetik 50:1 2% i mozes po cijeli dan radit vrh klipa ce biti bez gareži i taloga, ono crveno ulje od Stihla je smece to je mineralno ulje hobi program...bilokoji cisti sintetik, ja naprimer sad trenutacno koristim Motul 800 2T...poozz
