I loved my Ms 361. My ms 261 pro wasn't so good. But it might have needed tuned, though I bought both new. My 361 and my 200T were my go to saws as needed. I would dearly love to have them both back. I hope your new version gets much better. 😎👍
Thank you for the video. I got an 036 in 1993 the direct decedent of the 362 (Shihl seemed to drop the leading zero and add a version level digit to the back). With that saw I was comparing it to an 028 a friend of mine had in the West Virginia Tech Trails & Outings Club. I was at first disappointed the 036 didn't rev and cut with the speed and finesse I saw with the 028. With the 028 I witnessed my friend go into a 2 1/2 foot thick West Virginia Oak with a vertical cut throwing huge quantities of saw chips 8 feet vertical into the air that in about minute slowly drifted down to turned my friend into to a saw chip snowman before my eyes! That 028 was using a 0.325 chains, a chain size0 I didn't think was all that aggressive. I was really thinking there was something wrong with my 036. Then at about 15 to 20 tanks the saw started to rev and cut aggressively . THAT'S A LONG TIME. It was used for trail clearing where volunteers typically carry away the the cut up wood. It became the center piece of enthusiasm for dicing big wood into human readily moveable pieces almost as fast as people could take the pieces away. I rotated through three of Shihl's most aggressive full chisel tooth chains, typically swapping out a chain with each fuel tank full. In trail work you are almost always working close to the ground where soil contamination of the wood is unavoidable, even using a steel brush to get the worst dust and dirt off the area of sawing.
Yes, the 028s are nothing to sneeze at, (I have three of them; 2 German made, but the one made in the USA leaves much to be desired) but I love my ms362, when/if it runs. I am really sick of replacing coils, and although the m-tronic is nice, , ,I think these things have big, big electronic/electrical issues, and definitely coil issues.
I've had a 362 for years and love it! My new 462 is even more awesome! I've never owned a husky and I'm sure they're a fine saw but I prefer the deep throatier sound of the stihl compared to the high pitched scream of the husky.
Definitely something wrong with that saw, I have a MS362C, a few years old now. It's excellent, very smooth running saw, never had excess vibration or hand numbness. Good vid tho!
Ive run both models of 362 cutting timber at work and i will say the non mtronic is a better saw. We have had tons of problems with 362s. Id take a 460 over either model of 362 any day
I've used a few of these and they are a fairly good saw. I have a new one that I will break in this week end before I let it loose into other hands. The 8 tooth drive sprocket really caused the saw to bog down, I'll stick to the standard 7. I like the idea of the two sets of dog teeth (that is a feature I like on the MS460/1/2 and MS660/1) . Good to see that you are safety conscious. 👍✔👌
441 did have an excellent centrifugal separation and the 261 has it as well but I find that the bigger saw separated much better, not even much dust got by. Hard to believe you got vibration through Stihls normally too soft spring system. Thanks for the review.
it truly does take 10-15 tanks before you see and feel the difference. keep the 8 tooth for later. get a carbide chain and keep cutting all day and then you'll see why you have to have a Stihl if you want to get some real work done.
If you’re worried about it sulking then you don’t understand carbide blades. Plus any competent worker will have multiple chains it’s quicker to swap chains than to sharpen them in the field.
Just subscribed! your boss is a lucky guy! I wish I had a climber like you on staff! ( mistakes happen but your always willing to learn and it seems like your still somewhat new to this line of work) I love your videos ! I watch them all and im excited when you have a new tree up for me to watch you cut down! thanks for all the good entertainment after work! :) us tree guys cant get enough! you will have tons of subs before no time ! its fun to watch you cut trees and learn. Some stuff I know but some stuff you do is different! Always cool to try new things! I watch tree videos all the time since you cant ever learn TOO much haha
Nice! Glad you enjoy them =) So many different ways to do things, nobody's style is the same as the next guy, one of the things I love most about the job, it's very subjective. You're correct on by newness, but doing it right at a year now.
I can see small things with respect to you being new but for the most part your a real go getter ! I've seen many guys with 3-5 yrs exp that aren't even close to as good as you! Your quick too! Keep up the good work ! If you were in Canada you would have a job ! Haha
+Human hi my friend. I'm a subscriber for a Long time love your videos. I have a question I jus got the ms 331 bar is 20, can I go up to a bigger bar like a 24 I heard some people using bigger bars. Can you please help me out on this question I will love to use a 24. Thanks.
Wish you were in North Carolina. I have a small tree service that is stressing me out trying to find good ground crew and all the other things that come with running a business. I just love climbing and cutting and I am thinking of taking a break and working for a company that recognizes hard workers when they see one. Hope business is going well for you.
Maybe the holes would be useful if the m-tronic system craps and the owner wants to slap a traditional carb on it? Not sure if feasibly possible, just a thought.
Now that you’ve had it a while, have you gotten the AV on it figured out or fixed? Just curious, only place to go from my ms390 is to the ms461 or ms661(assuming I stay with Stihl) as I need to do minor milling as well (my properties in Alaska need cabins).
I’m sorry you had a bad av experience ... I have the same saw.. and mine is very nice ... maybe you got a lemon ... idk ... but I’m glad you got it sorted out ... love your videos
I'd give the 8 tooth a longer test from a cold start. The manual states it takes 5 similar cuts for the computer to readjust to any change in running conditions, be they environmental (temp', baro, altitude) or physical.
I bumped up to one of these from my old 026Pro. What a difference. I have the 20 and 25 inch bars for mine, it runs both very well. I run the full chisel Stihl RS chain and its a beast I was going to look at the 390 but the 362 had more power and was lighter. Love the videos!
My 362, has had oiling issues since the day I brought it home. Chips build up around sprocket and then chain goes dry. Tried a few brands of oil and have oiler turned all the way up.
BUYING a saw tossing between 362 or a 400 ,just cutting a trailer load 4×6 at a time! How capable is a 362 cutting through bigger logs ? Please advise, I thank you in advance Gunter
Aloha I enjoy the video always get good info I just wondering wat you would think between the ms 362 vs ms 462 is it worth the the price or just get the 362 thanks bro aloha
So looking to increase my skills and equipment I'm now looking at the 362. Great review btw. I still have a lot to learn. In comparing the 362 r c-m with just the c-m it's about $30.00 cheaper. So my question is the aftermarket handle for almost $300 better than the factory one? I'm sure attention to detail and quality is probably better. Is it worth the coin? I do believe in buy once, cry once.
Great review Human, keep yoo the good work. I think Stihl left holes for carb setting because of money saving reason, probably they would be left with quite few of them panels. It's the same with cars industry, always trying to squeeze in older bits and left overs tho minimize lose. Can You please consider reviewing Technical Extreme trousers from Husqvarna, heard good things about them. And now You should have easy access. Have a good one, and remember Safety First.
Great review Human! I thought at first the depth gauges might have been to low on the 8 pin test. Then you said something about the bar twisting due to the spikes being uneven. Either way I'd like to to hear her run again when you get everything on it. Now you have enough extra saws to get the 661 ported lol.
Yeah, it was only twisting on long pivot cuts though, and the chain was brand new, I hadn't touched it yet. I'll post another video of it once I get some more tanks through her.
HUMAN! Nice saw. I have the model before the facelift and love it.After about 20 tanks threw the machine I did a muffle mod and it pulls an 8pin rim perfectly, saw responded very well to the changes. The ms362cm is my preferred saw to use over some of the bigger/heavier saws, mostly because it is just a pleasure to run.... with a 20" bar anyways. When I need a bigger bar I just grab the 661As far as the av system goes on the saw I have. I can use it for hours with no complaints.... nothing like my old pioneers and huskies.Keep up the good work and be safe.
Very nice! I plan on doing the same once I get some more tanks through mine, don't want to mod it till it's good and broke in though. I need to take it back into some wood this weekend and see if the vibration persists, not sure what it is, from what I hear though nobody else has this issue.
Nice review! I have two of the older 362s carb models. Great saws, and they always start. Picked up a 261mtronic this year. Deff cuts smooth as butter. When she is warm you need to start it with the throttle wide open. My 661, 201tc are both similar so it's not a big deal. Looking forward to its log term hold up because I have heard bad thing about that mtronic model, but it could just be people that don't know how to start them.
Tom Saad they have problems. a logger friend of mine 39 hours on 661 m-tronic went down. 1 week later i removed all the mtronic stuff put a 660 carb and coil on it. now it runs really nice more power to. you have to do some grinding to make it work but its worth it. no more problems and more power cant beat that
Very good review my fellow human! Try to do a little less editing cuts, but other than that great job! I really like the new chain side cover on the new 261 and 362, didn't know they did it on 362 also till now. Keep the wicked videos comin brother!
Thanks for the video Human. For a one man home owner saw keeping his woods cleaned up and cutting fire wood would you recommend the ms261 or this ms362? And standard carb or Mtronic? Looking to add another saw to go with my ms250 (currently has a 18” bar but will be going with a 16” bar when I pick up a new saw.) new saw will primarily run a 18” with option to put a 20” on when needed. Thanks!!
362 would be a bit overkill I'm thinking, would do well with the 261. Either carb or mtronic will work, but likely have a hard time finding one with a standard carb.
Human thanks for the reply. Yeah the 362 probably is over kill. I was originally going to get a 311 or 391 but then the price your not much more to get into the pro saw. Tough choice
Is that 18 or 20 in bar? Those huge spikes kinda throw it off. My nephew has one and his 20 in stihl bar looks 22 in long!!! Guess its a visuall thing.
Make sure there is nothing interfering with the movement of the handle assembly from the engine assembly. No way that Stihl would release a model that vibrated that bad. Vibrations levels are measured on every model and published. There is something wrong with that particular saw.
Any benefit of a .063 vs .050 chain? Mine came with a .050 bar/chain... And thats what is recommended on their website.. however the manual recommends .063 lol?
New sub... i seen u didnt like the vibrations , ive got a 4 year old ms362 with out the c-m and no complaints as far as vibes. But that handle on urs looks way different... almost like composite?
argentum taibhsear science .... go with less and pay the same? And have a harder time ??? Parts everything else... reason you don’t see husky on fire line kicking ass ... hotshot crews don’t have huskys....
I'm just running an ms291 as of now I bought used. Couldn't pass it up. In the future, I'd be looking for more of a bigger saw, keep the 18" bar on my 291 and run up to 25". Wanting to go with a pro model, looking at the 441 c-m. Have any experience with them? Mostly bucking work as well as some limbing. I think my ms291 would be ok, but I can't see a need for a 462.
maybe the full chisel chain is increasing the vibrations on that particular model. Its not totally brocken in yet so its difficult to be subjective on its performance. keep up the product and tree related vids mate
Very true, I'll give an update when it is fully broken in. When I was breaking it in though, I had on a brand new semi-chisel, so I don't think it's the chain.
Dan henderson, faulty, loose or even dulled chains can contribute to accessives hand and arm vibrations being felt on a chainsaw. If your not aware of this perhaps you should read some literature on it before you make stupid comments in a public forum.
I just bought one of these (german new version) and it is pretty good so far, but it seems to be dripping alot of oil behind the side cover. At roughly 4:22 , you speak of a metal wear plate? My other saw an ms250 doesnt have this and oils great. Im wondering if this metal wear plate could be the reason oil seems to be going everywhere behind the side cover. Any thoughts*?
Not certain, could just be oiling too much though. Saw can run a 25" bar, and if you're running a 20" or so like I do, likely just need to turn down the oiler a bit.
How is your 362 running? My friend is a professional tree man for a living. He bought two ms362s about 4-6 months ago. Recently he was cutting with the one and it couldn't make it through the wood. He took it in under warranty and the piston was completely scored with no compression. He was running Stihl high performance non synthetic oil and the saw only made it less than 6 months.
Mines running great, it's the saw I was using in the video I recently posted when I was felling at my buddies property. My first one though did have vibration issues, and stihl ended up replacing it with a whole new saw. Wonder if his had the same issue mine had. They never told me what the problem was, but there was one as my new one doesn't have the same vibration problem that the original one did.
They gave him a whole new power head. And his other 362cm is in for problems with the pull cord. I have the exact same saw and mine has been running great. I only use mine for firewood though.
I should be getting the next Husqvarna to review pretty soon here, rep said he's coming into town this week to take the T540, next one will be the T536LI. I can't wait to start doing videos with the XP line, just taking awhile between saw change outs as I only get one at a time.
I R.... I have 2 562xp's, great cutting saw. Worst saw to try and start while hot..... stay away. I will never buy a husky again! Not to mention extremely poorly designed air filter assembly, allowing fine dust straight in the carby! I want money my fucken back!!!!!
Wich one do you prefer.. the 362 or the husky 562? I’m looking to buy an other saw because my 346xp miss a little bit of power when I cut in big red oak.
Was using krylon color max, but I've found that the krylon fusion holds up a bit better. I've heard that they're other paints out there that work much better, haven't looked into them yet though as I've a decent size stock of the fusion and not going to let it go to waste.
Hi, I have a question about a new Sthil chainsaw, and you seem like the guy who knows. On a new saw, what rpm and throttle position/ times/durations procedures should be used to break in the engine correctly ? This is the most important thing that I will do to start off with the saw, and I want it done right. Thanks man,- Jeff
With the tolerances they have with robotic machining these days, there isn't really anything that needs to be done special, big thing not to do is run it wide open without a load (out of the cut). Brand new I brake them in by running full go through several tanks of fuel, other than that, I don't do anything special.
I tell my customers 3-5 hours of run time for break in. Im not sure how that breaks down in tanks of fuel but by 4 tanks of HP ultra you should have significant protection against 1 tank of straight gas...
Not really on the chains, just make sure and keep'em touched up. Can't adjust the mixture on these new mtronic saws, they adjust themselves. On regular carbs though, absolutely, especially if I mod it, then you've really got to richen it up a bit
Thanks for the presentation. I can't believe that Stihl just jammed that ignition wire in there, at a 90° angle coming off the coil, , ,very sloppy design. I have the first version of this thing, and went through 3 different coils within the first 100 hours of run time, , ,I am NOT happy about that.
I just got a 441 second hand unfortunately im returning it because ignition doesn't work and it has that deflector on it. I didn't know what it was until watching this haha
Nice saw your dealers service is critical I buy Husky because our local dealer rocks and Stihl local dealer sucks. Love both brandsjust get better service from our Husky dealer. Keep up the great videos!
Human great answer, i never really considered that, a few days ago i took a pretty big stump out my yard with my ms271, having a dog on the other side would have helped a lot, or a full wrap handle. It was hard to keep the cuts straight without the dog in the wood, and i would have had to dig deeper to get the body of my saw in the hole low enough if i chose to cut recoil side down.
Human especially since all i have is an 18 inch bar and it was a 22 inch stump haha. Do you know if theres a magnesium captive nut cover with dogs that would fit onto an ms271? I like my saw a lot and dont want no mtronics haha.
I didn't do it professional by any means. Simply took off the cover, removed the connectors, rubbed in down with rubbing alcohol, hung it up, and spray painted it.
well the paintjob came out real and the paint stays on it i see, btw is the paint just mat black? and is it paint for plastic or something else? , im thinking of doing it on my 660
It was a brand new chain, haven't touch the rakers yet. I've heard from many others to wait till I've got more tanks through it, then try the 8-tooth again. We'll see how she does.
+Human I didn’t mean to imply that you had changed the rakers. I was just saying the chain has to be matched up with the power of the saw. when I sharpen the chain it loses bite in the wood unless I adjust the rakers. rakers can be adjusted to take a bigger bite in soft woods or smaller bites in hard woods. rakers can also be adjusted to match the power of the saw. it only takes a very small amount of adjustment or filing to make a large change over the length of the chain it can still be a difficult part of the saw to adjust, especially since the motor is still breaking in. I also have to take into account what gauge chain I'm running since the 0.05" stretches easier than 0.063" I use less raker on heavier gauge chain, unless it is a bigger bar or smaller engine.
I loved my Ms 361. My ms 261 pro wasn't so good. But it might have needed tuned, though I bought both new.
My 361 and my 200T were my go to saws as needed.
I would dearly love to have them both back. I hope your new version gets much better. 😎👍
And Maynard is shredding in the background, just another reason to show support.
Was distracting as shit
@@noteworthy227 Not at all...
That was a good choice

Can't beat a Stihl chainsaw review with music from Tool in the background. Excellence!!
CambriaSteelheader that's right you can't beat a stihl
Great video… useful information, just bought a 362C, good to know that is needs up to 15 tanks to get there… wouldn’t have guessed. Thank you.
Best firewood saw I've ever had. No complaints cutting plenty of oak and hickory in Georgia.

Would you recommend the m tronic over the normal one? I think you can still get the normal one
Thanks for review. Will definitely be going with the Stihl 261 w/18" bar.
Stihl makes the saw to take directly into the field to work.
No break in required.
Dan Henderson not true
When you buy a saw they have a break in procedure especially for these mtronic saws... where you have to idle them and then run them WOT under load
Dan Henderson.....I bet your saw is done by now
I’m sorry you had a bad av experience ... I have the same saw.. and mine is very nice ... maybe you got a lemon ... idk ... but I’m glad you got it sorted out ... love your videos
Replace the ES bar with an E bar if you want to make the saw balance better & much lighter. They hold up very well.
20in or 25in es light is the way to go
I'd give the 8 tooth a longer test from a cold start. The manual states it takes 5 similar cuts for the computer to readjust to any change in running conditions, be they environmental (temp', baro, altitude) or physical.

Yeah, I tend to paint all the saws/equipment
Human
do you use a normal Spray Can?
I seen you on I 64 months ago I'm by east saint louis keep rollin wit it human
Why a semi-chisel for the brake in? Thanks for the video
Do you by chance know the part # for the dual dogs and roller chain catcher? Bought this saw after watching all your videos on it. Love the channel

Very nice! I plan on doing the same once I get some more tanks through mine, don't want to mod it till it's good and broke in though. I need to take it back into some wood this weekend and see if the vibration persists, not sure what it is, from what I hear though nobody else has this issue.
What's your favorite saw in this class?
Just got that saw sweet runner
No old adjustment holes in side on mine
Nice review! I have two of the older 362s carb models. Great saws, and they always start. Picked up a 261mtronic this year. Deff cuts smooth as butter. When she is warm you need to start it with the throttle wide open. My 661, 201tc are both similar so it's not a big deal. Looking forward to its log term hold up because I have heard bad thing about that mtronic model, but it could just be people that don't know how to start them.
Tom Saad they have problems. a logger friend of mine 39 hours on 661 m-tronic went down. 1 week later i removed all the mtronic stuff put a 660 carb and coil on it. now it runs really nice more power to. you have to do some grinding to make it work but its worth it. no more problems and more power cant beat that
I have always had a doubt about the measure of the bar is 20 inches to cut or the whole bar to the inside ???
Very good review my fellow human! Try to do a little less editing cuts, but other than that great job! I really like the new chain side cover on the new 261 and 362, didn't know they did it on 362 also till now. Keep the wicked videos comin brother!
Thanks much, appreciate it. I did a bunch of cuts as this video was running incredibly long, try to only cut out the redundant stuff.
Love all that raw power. Great review!
I really like the black top case cover is it painted or can you buy it
Thanks for the video Human.
Is there a choke? I bought the 362, with no choke and it’s a bit of a bear to get running on cold mornings in MO.
Hey where do you get those black covers from?
Where did you get the felling dogs? Got the same saw with the new side cover...
Human did u haff to sand the orange of the plastic before u painted it black or just paint over the orange
That's generally the feedback I'm getting, going to have them check it out.
My 362c is awesome
Any benefit of a .063 vs .050 chain? Mine came with a .050 bar/chain... And thats what is recommended on their website.. however the manual recommends .063 lol?
New sub... i seen u didnt like the vibrations , ive got a 4 year old ms362 with out the c-m and no complaints as far as vibes. But that handle on urs looks way different... almost like composite?
Speaking of the 261, can you and is it worth trying to change to a 3/8p to match other saws?
I heard Ashes of the wake, you have good music taste
Geez, I think you used that saw more than I used mine in the first year, lol.
argentum taibhsear science .... go with less and pay the same? And have a harder time ??? Parts everything else... reason you don’t see husky on fire line kicking ass ... hotshot crews don’t have huskys....
hello, can we mount a chain guide ES of 55 cm on the ms 362? thank you thierry
I just picked up a 441 they have a few more you want one
question for 'ya. first of all, thanks for the videos! hey, so why do you paint the orange covers white (on a brand new saw)?
I don't, I paint them black =) No reason, I just like the way they look.
I've run the 441 standard carb a whole bunch, love it with a 30", don't have any experience with the c-m though.
maybe the full chisel chain is increasing the vibrations on that particular model. Its not totally brocken in yet so its difficult to be subjective on its performance.
keep up the product and tree related vids mate
Very true, I'll give an update when it is fully broken in. When I was breaking it in though, I had on a brand new semi-chisel, so I don't think it's the chain.
Hmm point taken, maybe time will tell.We run 261's and 441's on full chisel, both pretty good on the vibrations.
Keep us posted dude
Stephen Neeson its not the chain
Stephen Neeson Full chisel chain increasing vibrations?
What are you talking about?
Vibration into the handle come from the engine not the chain.
I only use mine for firewood though.
got a vid trying with a 25" bar? can it keep up?
That's called air injection in husqvarna. All the bigger saws have it. Idk about the smaller saws. I haven't looked
Any chance you can review the Stihl MS241C?
Is that an inertial separator thingy or, is it a dohicky?...
are you going to try out any of the husky saws? like the 562 xp? or 372xp? great saws.
Will the saw dogs from the 362 fit the 311?
How much how to order
maybe its too light for the power it has?
nope
Wich one do you prefer.. the 362 or the husky 562? I’m looking to buy an other saw because my 346xp miss a little bit of power when I cut in big red oak.
I'd say good choice either way
Did you ever find a resolution for the vibration issue? I'm in the market for a 60cc pro saw, and this problem concerns me.
r wat stihl stick to their warranty and replaced the saw for free
Just curious, what kind of paint are you using and how does it hold up. Love the look of the black.
Was using krylon color max, but I've found that the krylon fusion holds up a bit better. I've heard that they're other paints out there that work much better, haven't looked into them yet though as I've a decent size stock of the fusion and not going to let it go to waste.
Did you use matte black or flat black?
Can i apply longer bar? I meant 066 bar
Sounds good, thanks again. That 362 c seems priced right.
What octane gas do you use in your saws? I use highest octane , is that best?
93, and yes, higher is better. Especially with the stihl mtronic saws, I've had idling issues with them on lower octane fuel.
Thanks, good to know i was doing what was best for my chainsaw n weedeaters.
How did you paint the cover? Rattle can?
I tell my customers 3-5 hours of run time for break in. Im not sure how that breaks down in tanks of fuel but by 4 tanks of HP ultra you should have significant protection against 1 tank of straight gas...
Is that the saw that husky 372xp mount springs mount on and really help????
I'm unsure, will have to look into it.
I would like to ask if u modify ur chains and modify ur air fuel mixture
Not really on the chains, just make sure and keep'em touched up. Can't adjust the mixture on these new mtronic saws, they adjust themselves. On regular carbs though, absolutely, especially if I mod it, then you've really got to richen it up a bit
Why do you put black plastic on your saws
Did you ever get your buddy to take a look at your saw's AV system?
They ended up replacing the saw.
@@Human1337 Very nice! Im glad to hear that they took care of you.
The farm boss 271 has that intake system now.
Hello human I would ask you if you know if the new air filter hd can match to the older version 362
I've no clue on that one.
What paint do you use on the top cover?
Why do I see people putting the bars on upside down, or does it not matter?
It keeps the wear even and gives you longer life from the bar.
Returning something second hand?
Thanks for the review Human.
Nice saw your dealers service is critical I buy Husky because our local dealer rocks and Stihl local dealer sucks. Love both brandsjust get better service from our Husky dealer. Keep up the great videos!
What is your opinion on having one dog on the engine side of the bar compared to dogs on both sides of the bar?
I like dogs on both sides, makes it much easier when cutting around flares, like stump cuts.
I allso have a 362 it s a yearold oit ha no vibration problem at all nice running saw
have you ever done a review with a dolmar or makita ?
I'd like to, have heard great things about them. Nobody in this area seems to have one though.
any update on the cause of the vibration?
Nope, I'm sure I'll never hear about that saw again. I'd like to know as well, if I ever do hear anything, I'll post about it.
can you show how you did the paint job ?
I didn't do it professional by any means. Simply took off the cover, removed the connectors, rubbed in down with rubbing alcohol, hung it up, and spray painted it.
well the paintjob came out real and the paint stays on it i see, btw is the paint just mat black? and is it paint for plastic or something else? , im thinking of doing it on my 660
the rakers are a little low for the 8 tooth sprocket.
