Hello NittPicc [ @NittPicc ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Buemos Aires in December 2012,, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an wild Argentinian audience. At this concert Floor Jansen were in the band for just about 2 and a half months, joining them as an emergency replacement, in the middle of a world tour. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘
Hello Gabriel. Don't want to be picky but that concert is from what I understan in December 2012. It's clearly before wacken since her performance is more, dare I say steady, at the Wacken show. She had only done 10 to 14 gigs at this show. Not hundred % sure but this is what I've picked up from comments. But then again comments isn't the most reliable source.

@@Anders_ErikssonYou're correct. I just think it's a typo from the general.
@@Anders_Eriksson Thank you for correcting me, my fault, I posted in a hurry. That's right, the first Nightwish concert in which Floor participated took place on October 1, 2012 in Seattle.
No worries regarding Gabriel. We fans appreciate and adore this man for his tireless efforts at promoting what most here feel is one of the best bands ever! Please read his post, his guidance is actually important for those embarking on the Nightwish journey. Welcome to our family, from Nightwish Army Member, Outpost Eatonville Wa. 😊
And here you can see his "okay, now! She's wonderful for this, ain't she!! ❤ (After so much turmoil and havoc, fears, anxiety and all - we're home! And you are, too, dear Floor.)"
The fact that Floor has the ability to take songs written for the previously singers, and absolutely own them with amazing renditions show how incredibly talented she is.
I love the 'rawness' of this Buenos Aires version. And then you watch the Wacken version, and you see Floor navigate her way through the song flawlessly after having spent more time with it. It really gives you an appreciation of how seriously she takes her craft.
Not many reactions to this live version of GLS... I LOVE how the great people in the audience sing along to the guitar solo! Empu thank them for the love! This audience in fact makes me jealous, I've been to hundreds of shows, never been in a crowd quite like this! BTW... This isn't even the best crowd reaction from this concert! YES! it get's better! If you shed a tear on this song, you can get your tears back... "I want my tears back" NOW!
This was not the first time she’s done it. There are videos on TH-cam of her first tries to do it live. By the time this show took place, “the note” has been known 😊.
@@eves1503 Of course, which is why I said "Most". No DVD had been released of the first loive performances where Floor added this ending, at the time. There may have been audience-filmed videos but very few of the audience here would have seen them. It was not a "known" ending.
@@NickBR57 awesome! From the looks of it, seems like it was a wild show regardless of whether people knew or not. Different times, i guess. Sometimes it’s great not knowing stuff ahead of time and be surprised 😲
Thanks for using the Buenos Aires Version. As a German, I'll defend the wonderful Wacken 2013 recording any time, but this is great too and tends to get overlooked quite undeservedly. If your first reaction at the end of over ten minutes of music is "What? It's over already?", then you obviously enjoyed it a LOT. You've got the ears and brains to analyse music, a heart that loves music and - most importantly - the words to share all this with us. As reactors go, you're definetly Top Of The Pops. Greetings from Germany!
The Wacken 2013 recording is a better version. Not only was it a better recording and production but by that time Floor had been singing and rehearsing with the band for 10 months and they were all on the money with every song for the whole show. I believe she personally had a lot more confidence in her approach to singing her rendition of a song written for Tarja's voice and really made it hers that night and pretty much the rest of the whole set list. It's truly an epic performance. I'm just glad it was captured on video for all time.
Good one. Usually people go for the Wacken 2013 version but this is great too. The crowd chanting Floor's name at the end wanting her to be/remain the new singer.
As mentioned before the orchestral parts are backing tracks done by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Sadly Nightwish has not performed with an actual orchestra. But, but Floor Jansen has performed live with another amazing band called Epica, who has done a live performance with an orchestra and choir. Epica featuring Floor Jansen Sancta Terra is amazing.
Epica got the live orchestra on the 10th anniversary (iirc), maybe Nightwish will do something similar on the 30th ? If so, probably only in Finland, at best in Europe too.
This makes so much more sense now! I was sitting there listening to the track and couldn’t believe it was “synthetic” because it sounded real. I’m glad it was! And with the LONDON PHIL?!? 😭😭😭
@NittPicc There are documentaries about the band creating albums, including the writing process and recording sessions with the orchestra and choirs in London.
As a flutist, you might especially enjoy Nemo, Alpenglow , I Want My Tears Back, or Elvenjig/Elvenpath (always go for a live version with Nightwish). Or go for The Islander, for a truly different side of the band
Another soul snatched by the Valkyrie Goddess This is a great version ( Floor was only with the band for 2 months ) She absolutely masters the song at Wacken 2013 . Follow Gabriel's comment it'll show you the way to The Nightwish Journey
Well...my introduction to Nightwish was back in 2019....and this song was my introduction! Now...5 years later. I am totally hooked on Nightwish! I constantly listen to Nightwish...and drop in some "Within Temptation" every now and then ( you need to react to them..especially " What About Us" ) The Symphony you hear is the London Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, they also employ the London Youth Choir. Tuomas Holopainen ( the keyboard man ) is the genius behind Nightwish's music and lyrics. I have only witnessed one other person in my life that has that amount of talent in my 60 years of listening to rock 'n' roll, hard rock, heavy metal...etc....that person is Sir Elton John. Oh...Floor has stated that she can stay underwater for 6 minutes without coming up to breahe!
This is from the Album Once. It was the first use of the London Philharmonic orchestra and Metro Voices choir. The relationship has continued through most of their albums since.
Thank you for reacting to our beloved Nightwish with our Valkyrie Goddess, Floor Jansen on lead vocals. You've just scratched the surface of this amazing group's live performances. Loved it.

Great reaction and welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. This performance was done when she (Floor Jansen) had been with the band less than 2 month after filling in mid US tour. And this song had been cut from the setlist for a while and she performed this just a couple of times before this was shoot. Again welcome from Nightwish Army of Sweden
Therefore, the wacken 2013 version has her more refined phrasing after playing the song 8 more months live. She only had 48hrs to learn the set list Initially to be part of the tour. Nightwish army since 1999 California division.
Welcome to Nightwish. Please continue as every song you hear is vastly different, yet still Nightwish at the same time. Gabriel will chime in soon with some history as well as a list of other suggestions, I recommend that you stick to his list as there are many videos out there that have the wrong speed. BTW Tuomas (Keyboards) is the songwriter and much of the sounds you are hearing is also a backing track He writes music and has the London Philharmonic record for them so much of the orchestra sounds is legit.
Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied.
for me the valkyrie goddess reaches into my chest and gently massages my heart as tears fill my eyes, i call it a cleansing floorgasm, resistance is futile
This band is incredible and Floor is a machine. Every NW song is its own thing, they keep you guessing. They have changed a lot over the years, and continue to change. Just enjoy each song for what it is and you should be fine. Hope to see more of you with Nightwish. I personally recommend Storytime or Bless the Child, live Wacken 2013. If you want a calmer, more "storytelling" vibe, go for Dead Boys Poem live in Buenos Aires. Whatever you do, just do the live shows as they shine live. The only music video worth seeing is Noise.
No-one in this crowd expected this song to be performed as the previous singer couldn't sing this and Floor Jansen only replaced her ten weeks earlier with 48 hours to learn the setlist as she travelled from the Netherlands to the USA. Floor now sings everything written for the first operatic singer, Tarja Turunen (1996-2005) and the second pop singer, Anette Olzon ( 2007-2012). Best concert to watch is Wacken 2013. You might have noticed the crowd chanting "Floor" at the end because she added the final belt as she felt it needed it !
Nice reaction! Keyboard player is the main composer and lyricist. He plays a lot of orchestral parts and some of it is backing tracks. Choirs are also backing tracks.
They all play with a clic track in their in-ears to stay on beat and in sync with the backing tracks controlled by playback systems and likly with some keyboard control. According to Pip Williams, who helped with the arrangements for the orchestra, Tuomas likes to play strings on the keyboard, and the orchestra arrangements are designed to allow for that. He also said Tuomas comes to the Orchestra recording studio knowing what he wants, unlike some others like Ric Wakeman 😊 another keyboard rock god he also worked with.
Hello Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. Greetings from the Netherlands.
This was a wonderful reaction Nittpicc! Your understanding of how music works will lend itself well to analyzing Nightwish songs, as they are both simple and complex at the same time. Prepare to be amazed my friend, this isn't even close to being their most impressive song. Much love from the Nightwish army New York 🤗
The orchestral backing track is from the London Philharmonic Orchestra and two choirs (adult and children). They have partnered with Nightwish on a number of their albums. Some of what you hear is being played by Tuomas (keyboardist) but probably most of it is the LPO. You can listen to a TH-cam video for this song which is only the backing track and choirs. Just search for the Nightwish song with "orchestral" in the search terms to get the backing track for the song. Tuomas writes the backing track as well as the song.
The exploration of Nightwish is a journey that will enthrall you like no other. There is so much variety and so many nuances to their music ... and their live performances are, in my opinion, simply breathtaking. All the very best from the Canberra Regiment, Australian Division, Nightwish Army.
I really enjoyed your commentary and reaction to my all-time favorite singer and band. Floor sings on another level. I know of no other female singer that can match her versatility, power and pitch perfect voice and I am older than dirt. 😄🤘
Hello from Finland. Yeah, this is a band from my country, Lead singer Floor Jansen is Dutch, lives in Sweden with her husband and kids. She's our Goddess for sure. Hope you'll be doing more of Nightwish. BTW Symphonic Metal is the term we use for this genre. And Gabriel our leader will provide full history and links to song's for you soon as possible.
Enjoyed it, thank you. Part of the keyboard players pay (he writes almost all the music and lyrics) is your reaction. Looking forward to your next reaction. Welcome to the Nightwish Community, the Army is on the way. Saw them in LA after long Covid delay, it was great. BTW, Congrats on your first (of many) Floorgsm. Be well.
Welcome to the world of Tuomas Holopainen, the greatest composer of my lifetime. He's the keyboard, and poet as well, and the driving force behind Nightwish.. Believe it or not, this is not the best performance of this song. Try Wacken 2013. He has written about 95% of their catalog, and no two songs have any dirivitive elements. The on-going joke is which is your favorite Nightwish song ... the one to which I am currently listening. Tuomas is brilliant enough to surround himself with virtuoso musicians who play exactly what's need for the composition. These are the most humble geniuses I've ever seen. Floor is, without any doubt in me, the finest female vocalist on the planet, and if you are wise enough to ontinue on this journey of a lifetime, you will discover just how amazing she is. There will be something in every song that will be a jaw drop for you, and it will come from each member. Enjoy your journey, and enjoy the invasion of our Nightwish Army!! You'll love them all.
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’. At the time of the video Floor was only 2 months with them. Floor joined Nightwish as a permanent member after the iconic Wacken concert in 2013. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on TH-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered TH-cam in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turned 7 years this march) and Lucy (born last october) ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.
The keyboardist Tuomas does all the composing and arranging. But I'm pretty sure the orchestra is mainly a backing track from the London Philharmonic. Singer Floor Jansen is the band's 3rd front woman, and still the current one. She really has no vocal limits.
Tuomas play as much as possible live but they definitely have lots of extra sounds from actual orchestra recordings. And older songs were composed by Tuomas and arranged for the orchestra by Pip Williams.
Chapeau, NittPicc, I love it when reactors right from the start manage to point out the odd rhythm 🙂 The audience singing the guitar solo gives me goose bumps
I enjoyed your reaction so much. It was so real, and you have the knowledge to go along with the intricacies of this bands music. This is a band made up of extremely talented musicians, who all play for the song. You won't find any egos here. Floor Jansen, the lead singer, is one of the best voices around today. There is nothing she can't do. The keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, is a musical marval who composes and writes the lyrics for most of the music that they play. Together with the other musicians, they for a tight and exciting team. You will find that each song is different, and there isn't a bad song in the bunch. I do hope that you continue down the Nightwish road, because there is so much more to discover. I have subscribed in the hopes that you do.
New subscriber here! Great reaction! Yes, she is classically trained. She can sing everything from metal growls to gritty classic rock to pop to delicately soft tear-jerker ballads to full-on classical opera. And she can sing those in 8 different languages at current count (English, her native Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Finnish, and Swedish). The orchestra parts you hear are, in fact as Gabriel pointed out, THE London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Metro Voices of London choir group recorded in studio. The keyboardist is the boss-man, original founder, and creator of Nightwish. He is the genius maestro who writes and composes 95% or so of the music, including the orchestra parts, and writes the lyrical poetry.
I think you’re the first reactor I’ve watched that recognized the epic maneuver bit! I used to have the timestamp memorized on the song so I could play it whenever I wanted to.
🤩👍💥💯🎼 It defenitely won´t hurt you, vise versa, that you keep exploring more of this magical band. ..Lots and lots of pleasurable moments ahead, guaranteed. Neat reaction mi lady and keep on rockin´ with them! Greets from Finland. 🤘😎💙🎶
Oh boy, are you in for a ride! 😁 Singer Floor Jansen has been singing symphonic metal since 1997 when she was 16. Her first band was After Forever which lasted until 2009. Then she formed a new band called ReVamp that lasted until 2016. She disbanded it so she could dedicate all her time to Nightwish which she joined as a replacement singer in 2012. She is still the lead singer of Nightwish. Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen is the primary songwriter and is nicknamed the Metal Mozart by the fans. Nightwish has always mostly been a Finnish band, except for their 2nd singer who was from Sweden, Floor who is Dutch, and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley who is English. I think you will really enjoy Troy who plays Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, guitar, keyboards, bouzouki, cittern, bodhrán, and mandola.
Keyboard player is Tuomas Holapainen, founder of Nightwish, and he writes 99% of all the music, so if one member is to highlight in this band, its surely him, not the our amazing valkyrie queen Floor Jansen, aint amazing, and taking spotlight here to, as well as ther rest of the guys, all are amazing musiscians.. Nightwish didnt perform yet with a live orchestra, idk why, they should, but another amazing symfonic metal band did, Epica, at the Restropect show, really amazing concert.. and well its about 3 hours long i think..
Always lovely to see a great reaction - with a lot of musical-understanding! Please @NittPicc continue your journey into the Nightwish-rabbit-hole. You surely won't regret it. YOU will undestand how good Nightwish is 'and that makes us the lucky ones'. Best regards from the Austrian Nightwish Army, Robert
Floor Jansen (the singer) had only been with the band for a couple of months at this time. Therefore all the songs had been written for the previous singers. Tarja 1996 - 2005 and Anette 2006 - 2012. Floor took over halfway through the tour at 48 hours notice, (there is a documentary about this called 48 hours to learn the setlist), even after this short time she had started making her own mark on the songs, the last high notes being one. The other version you saw was at Wacken Metal Festival some 8 months later, by this time she had really settled in and everything was working like clockwork, well worth listening to that version to compare and contrast, IMO Wacken is the best single concert by the band. The band work to a click track recorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Metro Voices Choir and the London Young Children's Choir.
This is the version of the song with the best crowd! Do check out Wacken 2013 for your own enjoyment sometime, but this was a great reaction to a great performance. Thanks, subbed.
Glad to see you discovered Nightwish. About a year and a half ago for me. Great reaction, looking forward to you experiencing more of their music. I can't get enough. I get emotional with every listen, original and reactions. Do yourself a favour and watch the Wacken 2013 version of this song for yourself. Floor deliveres the latter half a bit differently. Even more awe inspiring. The whole Wacken 2013 show is amazing.
You comments on Tuomas, the keyboard player and the lyrics and rhythm and Floor, the singer are all so spot on!! In fact every comment was, so I just had to subscribe to such a sublime reactor as you are. Thank you ❤
Looks like the dog is having fun too! 🙂 The keyboardist and genius behind Nightwish is Tuomas Holopainen aka Metal Mozart, and as mentioned already in the comments, he is using backtracks with pre recorded orchestral pieces. Here is a short docu with recording sessions in London for the Imaginaerum recordings: th-cam.com/video/HcxjKlUcjXo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DN0nQCaufOMpAwVC BTW I like this version because Floor just joined the band and she brought back this song on the list, changing it (particularly that ending) to fit her voice and style. The Wacken 2013 version is more reacted to as that it the most magical one.
I love this version at the end where Floor is hitting The Note and we get a glimpse of Emppu grinning with an "Oh, yeah! She knows how to do this song. We're gonna keep her!" grin.
That part at the end is all her - it isn't in the original version. It was when she came out with this ending that she convinced them to put GLS back in the setlist from Austin, TX, just 10 days after joining them (when she famously had only 48 hours to learn the entire setlist while flying out from The Netherlands to Salt Lake City and travelling on the tour bus with them to Seattle), and I don't believe it has ever left their live setlist since then.
Great reaction to my favourite band. About the orchestral parts, THE GENRE IS CALLED Symphonig Metal. And they are playning along a backtrack with recordings from a symphony orchestra. Some will say that it's London Symphony Orchestra. And to be fare they did use them on one album. Maybe on this one but I'm not sure. The keybordist is the composer of everything including the orchestral parts. Keep on digging in this rabbit hole. I would suggest any song from the Wacken concert. Then there's a piece called "The Greatest Show on Earth" an over 20 min opus about the earths evolution. (my fav) Also there is asong called Music from their 2020 album Human 2 Nature. I always get jelous when I see ppl hearing NW for the first time. I wish I had that journey ahead of me.🤘
@@iainmackie6421 That's not correct. As I said they used them once. After that they mainly worked with Pip Williams and alot of session musicians at the Angels studios in London. LPO resides at Cadogan Hall. If you watch The making of Endless forms most beautiful documentary (part 8 or 9) Tuomas say that they been working with theese people for 10 years. There's alot of misinformation floating around in the commentary fields regarding Nightwish.
@@Anders_Eriksson And this album (Once) was rcorded in 2005 and Endless Forms Most Beautiful in 2015. Do your math before calling something misinformation.
@@Anders_Eriksson I come more and more to the conclucsion that Finn McKennty was right a few years ago when he said Nightwish fans are the most toxic fans. At that time I thought he was talking BS but now I think he has a point. Your insisting on something false makes me mad. Yes they work with Pip Williams and session musicians, but these "session musicians" are members of the LPO.You are clearly not capaple of thinking, that maybe the musicians can play outside the Cadogan(sic!) Hall.
Thank you for doing this amazing version of this song, one of her very very best ever and you also hear the orchestra clearly. Very nice reaction. I think I also heard a dog in the background at one point.
Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen (who writes 95% of everything Nightwish) plays as much as is possible with two hands, what he physically can't is on backing tracks. Great reaction, sub'd for the Nightwish journey 🤘
Glad you found your long lost piece of Music. Welcome to the Nightwish Army. What a great reaction. Floor Jansen is our Valkyrie Godess of Song. More please. Tuomas Holopainen (keys) is the composer of all songs. A true genius. The band is AMAZING live. Cheers from the UK Divison of the Army.
Great reaction and maybe even better analysis of this masterpiece.. one of the best of my favourite band, the best of all time with the best singer of all time, our Valkyrie Queen Floor... Anything you react with their name on top will be a pleasure to come and tag along.. keep rocking and stay safe!!
Lovely reaction! Nightwish is Finnish metal pride and joy! Many will tell you, that Wacken live is a best one, but in a way I actually like this live version little bit more because it´s more sweatier and meatier. There is so much to learn and listen, because Nightwish has operated already more than 25 years. You´re most welcome!
Nice, the earliest official live version, which was recorded in Buenos Aires! Always preferred this version, because I heard it first as soon as it was released, because of the amazing crowd, and because of the crowd chanting her name at the end. For your info, Nightwish uses a backing track for most of the orchestral stuff and all of the choirs. They sync the live music with the backing track through the use of a click track.
So I believe floor, the lead singer, has only been with the band for a few months at this concert. You should check out the wacken 2013 live version. It's even better than this. Most all your nightwish reactions should come from the 2013 wacken Germany concert. Love your passion, by the way. I think next up is (story time)
And the introduction of the star of the show Me. Floor Jansen. This lady is breath taking with her appearance and display her singing ability. This beginning section is just a warm up for her. She has been trained (Dutch Rock Academy) and it shows. She has a range of more than three octaves (C3 to F6). And she is a mother, a horse rider. and a true rock STAR! She is SO expressive!! They leave the stage for a moment. Upon their return Floor comes back out and kills us! Her outfit has a cape and looks like it is leather. Yet her breath control is perfect. All with her diaphragm. No shoulder rise with this lady. She takes us to a new level. Please note how she includes and directs the audience. AND she is the queen of hair flips!!! I saved the BEST for last. Floor recently beat cancer!!! Thank GOD! Is she special and great???
The juxtaposition of her insane range and presence and this bands hard hitting insane talent is incredible Absolutely kickass. Jukka in Beast Mode on the drum kit…Everyone performing at the very highest level….as usual🤘
The founter of Nightwish and keyboardist Tuomas, writes the music, lyrics and does the orchestral arrangements. You can now move forward 12 years and catch up with what you have been missing
This is the video that introduced me to Nightwish. This only the beginning of the rabbit hole, If you choose to go down it. Hint, go down that rabbit whole. Their best stuff is actually live for the most part. This only scratches the surface of the band, though clearly a good start. Enjoy.
Floor Jansen is a multiple personality vocalist. She can be a siren in Nightwish "Ghost Love Score", a valkyrie in Nightwish "Storytime", a she-demon in Revamp "Disdain", and a pop diva in her Beste Zangers performance of "About Love I Don't Know a Thing". I recommend you all these songs to react to. Floor Jansen is not a human. She is a heavenly creature.
I absolutely adore this live version. I would love to see your reaction to the same song from Wacken, not only is it a higher production so they sound is more clear and better mixed (props to the sound engineers that work at Wacken) you can really feel that Floor has landed in her element with the band. Great reaction, thank you for uploading
What a fantastic reaction! Nightwish Army Japan Division checking in. I have to admit being a bit jaded by Nightwish reactions (Gabriel will hang me for this, I imagine). Just too many 'reactions' without the actual reaction. THIS is what a reaction should be. And your little squeak when replaying the end and Floor got going? Loved it! Your joy is our joy.
N.P. (aka Teach!), I predict you loving this video! I think Floor has had formal training. She has an impressive vocal range. She is a master of the hair flips. And she is sporting a cape up on the stage. She is very expressive and uses her hands a lot. Her breathing is perfect, all of her air is from the diaphragm. No shoulder rises! I think there were around 80,000 out there in the audience. And this was nearing the end of a long set. Yet her voice is still powerful.......Floor is a vocal wonder!! A gift to humankind!! This section is a warm up for Floor. She busts it out in a bit. The entire group leaves for a short break. When the drummer returns, the others are back on stage also. This is where Floor shows her vocal power! This song is SO good it makes me teary eyed. Maybe I am getting old and sensitive. I so en You being a woman you will understand this next comment better than the men will. My favorite thing of ALL is Floor recently beat cancer!! Get ready the portion I mentioned above is coming up. You'll know when Floor walks back out with her long hair blowing in the wind. Get ready!!! Was that special and grand or what? You should cover this with your flute. Thanks
Please continue your exploration of Nightwish. I loved your reaction. Many thanks. PS. Prepare yourself for a visit from the Nightwish Army. I hear them coming.
Regarding time signatures, take another listen. The song starts out with 3 bars of 6/8 and then one of 5/8. When the guitar comes in, it switches to the 4/4 & 3/4 you were counting. A staple of Tumoas' writing are key and time signature changes - I think there are over 20 key changes in GLS alone.
With my first listen, in the moment I tried to simplify it into a 4/4 time. But after listening to it again, it definitely is 2 bars of 6/8, a bar of 5/8 and then a final bar 6/8 to create the 4 bar phrase. Ugh. 😩 oh well! This makes it my genuine reaction! 😅
This is the first or second time that Nightwish performed this version live (they did two concerts in Buenos Aires, i dont know if this is the first or second of them). The audience was... well... floored :)
The song is from 2004. Singer Floor Jansen has only been with the band for three months. She is not yet in training and is a bit unsure. It will get better. Because the band had a falling out with their second singer in the middle of the current tour, she had to step in within 48 hours. At the time of recording, all the lyrics were probably still on the stage because she was afraid of forgetting something. She is only the temporary replacement here. Six months later, she is unofficially asked if she wants to become a member. She agrees hesitantly. She must have suspected that it was the end of her own band. But there are offers you can't refuse. Another four months later, she officially becomes the third singer and is now the longest-serving singer: Nightwish - Perfume Of The Timeless (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
Dude I just literally fist pumped when you mentioned the Epic Geordi Maneuver from YTMND! That’s how I discovered Nightwish too, and it’s freaking embarrassing because they’re now my favorite band in the world.
Ghost Love Score is a full mind and body experience. This is the beginning of a grand adventure in symphonic metal. Next up from Nightwish may well be The Greatest Show On Earth, a tale of our existence. Another interesting treat is the metal band Walk in Darkness which has introduced ballet into their videos.
I'll say that FLOOR has THE voice. There are a lot of great singers but Floor blows them all out of the water just from overall ability in my opinion. This performance is excellent but Waken 2013 is even better, you really need to see the whole concert. Floor had barely even been with the band very long and you might want to check how she became a member of the band and how fast she had to learn the set. Quick question, have you ever listened to any Yes?
It's always great to see reaction by somebody that understand music more than "this sounds cool"! If you do more Nightwish reactions, I would recommend going with legendary Wacken 2013 performance for every live song performed there. In addition, the Wembley 2015 version of The Poet and the Pendulum is definitely worth reacting to, the same as Tampere 2015 version of The Greatest Show on Earth. And I would recommend reading the lyrics for any song before reacting to the the performance. The lyrics are complex enough to require pre-reading to fully appreciate them and knowing the lyrics will not spoil the performance.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "
For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community

🙏🤘
You're a bit late, General 😁
Our general Gabriel of the Nightwish Army will be here very soon.
…now I’m scared. 🥹
@@NittPicc don't need to be scared. He is the ONE to ask everything about Nightwish that you want to learn.

The man on the keyboard is the one that creates most of the productions that nightwish produces
And here you can see his "okay, now! She's wonderful for this, ain't she!! ❤
(After so much turmoil and havoc, fears, anxiety and all - we're home! And you are, too, dear Floor.)"
The fact that Floor has the ability to take songs written for the previously singers, and absolutely own them with amazing renditions show how incredibly talented she is.
2013 Wacken concert is the best version of this song hands down. The entire concert was magical for every song. I think it's Storytime.😊
I have to say..this version has really grown on me🤘🤘
@@JWNanaimo me too but wacken is 5%% better
I totally agree!
I much prefer this version
You are so right. This smaller venue and the audience interaction with the band has become my favorite. The love goes both ways and is palatable.
None of the audience had heard that ending before. Floor tried it in rehearsals, Tuomas said ok and she added it in live.
Heard it 1000+ times and still got goosebumps😊😊🙏🙏🤘🤘
EVERY time. Watching reactions is magnificent. Goosebumps and tears, here.
Same here.
Hail to the Queen, the Poet, The Riff maker , The Groove Master, The Piper of Heaven and the Beat Lord !
@@David_randomnumberI hope so. It will need to be recorded for all of us to appreciate.
@@ecbftl as long as Ville lives that should be a given.
As a flutist, you might especially enjoy Nemo, Alpenglow , I Want My Tears Back, or Elvenjig/Elvenpath (always go for a live version with Nightwish). Or go for The Islander, for a truly different side of the band
Always nice to see someone have her first Floorgasm.
and then there is that Markosm :D
Another soul snatched by the Valkyrie Goddess
This is a great version ( Floor was only with the band for 2 months ) She absolutely masters the song at Wacken 2013 .
Follow Gabriel's comment it'll show you the way to The Nightwish Journey
Well...my introduction to Nightwish was back in 2019....and this song was my introduction! Now...5 years later. I am totally hooked on Nightwish! I constantly listen to Nightwish...and drop in some "Within Temptation" every now and then ( you need to react to them..especially " What About Us" )
The Symphony you hear is the London Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, they also employ the London Youth Choir.
She only had 48hrs to learn the set list
Initially to be part of the tour.
Welcome to one of the deepest catalogs of fantastic music. Floor is one of the most versatile singers, this performance only scratches the surface.
That angry looking doll in your room is so cool 😊 Thank you for your reaction to my favorite band. Greetings from Westland, The Netherlands 🤘🏻
Welcome to your Nightwish journey! Utah, USA Nightwish Army reporting. Keep up the great reactions.
This was by far the best reaction to this song I've heard, and I have listened to a lot! Very well done 😊
..Yes, she's the Goddess.
The rawness and crowd interaction makes this best version. Glorious
Hello
Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands.
Welcome to Nightwish, greetings from Colombia ❤❤❤
Be well.
Welcome to Nightwish Symphonic Metal!🤘🎸Floor is the Valkyrie Queen!🤘🎸
Another soul has been snatched by our Valkyrie Queen. Great Reaction.....
It's not.
Heavy Metal was never a boring Music
Nor Symphonic Metal.
I think you’re the first reactor I’ve watched that recognized the epic maneuver bit! I used to have the timestamp memorized on the song so I could play it whenever I wanted to.

It defenitely won´t hurt you, vise versa, that you keep exploring more of this magical band. ..Lots and lots of pleasurable moments ahead, guaranteed.
The orchestral sounds make so much more sense now! Thank you for this!
I’m gonna have to do a deep dive into this band.
And another Nightwish journey begins 😅. Welcome
Deep dive on this band should be rewarding since their music is creative, fun and skillful.
So nice to see someone react to this version, thank you
You comments on Tuomas, the keyboard player and the lyrics and rhythm and Floor, the singer are all so spot on!! In fact every comment was, so I just had to subscribe to such a sublime reactor as you are. Thank you ❤
Looks like the dog is having fun too! 🙂
The keyboardist and genius behind Nightwish is Tuomas Holopainen aka Metal Mozart, and as mentioned already in the comments, he is using backtracks with pre recorded orchestral pieces.
Here is a short docu with recording sessions in London for the Imaginaerum recordings:

BTW I like this version because Floor just joined the band and she brought back this song on the list, changing it (particularly that ending) to fit her voice and style.
I wish I had that journey ahead of me.🤘
It's the London Philharmonic Orchestra - the same orchestra that they still use today.
@@klauskriegbaum2795 You clearly didn't read my post.
He got too excited. 🐶
I cannot wait to explore more of Nightwish!
The dog is part of the orchestra.
Wellcome to the magical music of Nightwish. Greetings from nwAse Sweden
Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen (who writes 95% of everything Nightwish) plays as much as is possible with two hands, what he physically can't is on backing tracks. Great reaction, sub'd for the Nightwish journey 🤘
Really excited to see you go down the nightwish rabbit hole. Really like your channel btw 👍
Nice reaction! I’m glad you liked it, from the best band in the world!
Came to the Rabit hole. Everytime i see Floor sing, i don't know what to do with my life.
oh i loved this analysis/reaction! You seem like such a sweet person and truly payed attention to the details of the performance
Fun fact. It’s is the London Philharmonic Orchestra that plays the orchestral music. ❤❤❤
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 well done nittpicc and welcome to the Nightwish Family
You just had what us fans call a "Floorgasm". She is the best singer ever and the band is amazing
I think next up is (story time)
Welcome to the NightWish world…enjoy it!!! Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
The juxtaposition of her insane range and presence and this bands hard hitting insane talent is incredible
Absolutely kickass.
Enjoy.
Me encanta! El público Argentino es una locura!!! Igualmente te recomiendo la versión de Wacken 2013 ❤
☺️☺️☺️
Thank you! 🙏🏼
N.P. (aka Teach!),
I predict you loving this video!
I so en
You being a woman you will understand this next comment better than the men will.
@@NittPicc I didn't figure the time signature out on first listen - only the most musically-educated reactors figure it out quickly.
Nice reaction. I cant wait to see you open more of this amazing chest of wonders 🤘😆🤘
Another four months later, she officially becomes the third singer and is now the longest-serving singer:
Nightwish - Perfume Of The Timeless (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
One of the greatest rock songs ever, and this is maybe the *second* best performance of it. You need to watch it at Wacken 2013!
The smaller the stage, the better the gig...
Quick question, have you ever listened to any Yes?
recordings are london philarmonic they made lots of stuff for nightwish
