Seems like a neat idea, being able to plug them in instead of trying to feed a band through them, but I just feel like the resin material and the shaping of the ball joint really makes these limiting. With a sturdier plastic and a way for them to better connect to each other, these may end up being the solution to He Man leg degradation. But for now, I don't see them working as the be-all-end-all solution.

    • @swizal908
      @swizal908 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Definitely not the end all be all solution but I initially created these to work with 3d printed legs for my action figures I make. But I’ve got some stuff in the pipes that’s pretty cool and definitely gotta get some she-hips going ;)

    • @robertwong2412

Need TPU filament that glues to each other in the hips. Easier to fit the legs and allow some give/stretch for posing.

I'll give these a go next if they are still being produced.
If you can't get hold of these, i've achieved something similar to this with a curled tongue bar with the ball ends on. Needed to bend it a little more with pliers but it worked. I used the metal ones not the plastic ones, although the plastic ones might be fine. But there's no chance of snapping the tongue bar like he-bands sometimes do, and the ball sits perfect in the leg hole. Also means you aren't making any permanent changes to the figure.
When I start producing my he-man inspired figures I might use the tongue bars actually moulded in to the resin when I cast them. I also have tried a test fit with Lego bionical ball joints but there's a better supply of tongue bars and they are a lot cheaper. But I'll definately give these he-hips a try on my original figures.

My method, when there are ball joints that are too hard to move, is to use a little white wax on the ball, (maybe on almost all of it, to cover it without exceeding it) and very little water in the pocket where it is to be placed.
I also use a hair dryer at maximum heat and low speed, (in order not to create waves in the plastic), for about 15 seconds, on the piece, to facilitate its insertion, this makes the plastics soft for a few seconds.
Obviously, I use the utmost care, because the plastic can tear, but it works.
... Here, I would have passed some water and white wax on those ball joints, with a toothpick and I would have reinserted the legs after having passed them for 10-12 seconds in the hair dryer ... But it is only the method that I would have used.
The video is excellent, I am always of the opinion to recover the broken toys whenever possible.

I also prefer the He-Bands. After softening the legs with hot water I get them in quite qickly by now. Just ordered She-Bands for Teela and Evil Lynn. The very first figures seem to have a different shape and it's harder to get them in, like Beast Man. All my figures are back to perfect shape now, when it comes to the legs. But this is certainly a good idea, I hope one day we get something that works better and more permanent.

I have repaired some with the O-Ring method and bought some He-Bands (but not tried it yet) though I think I might try these He-Hips.

Looks like a decent product. I think they needed to click together through the hole through the middle of the hips, though.
Personally, I use 4mm beads to make the ball of a ball joint and use a small screw to make a sturdy stem for the ball joint and insert them into a pool of epoxy glue inside the rump of the hips.
Replacing the rubber band with solid ball joints really does make the figures much more stable, I find.

It's nice to have options. Some people don't like the he-bands. For standing figures for display these work very well.

I think plastic ball joints are a better solution to the rubber, I think Hasbro should have used ball joints on those new o ring styled Joes as I think the o ring rubber is a bit of a design flaw looking back on it

It's seems like a nice easier way to fix these but that's why I'm replacing mine with origins figures I don't eat to have to repair them 😁

I wouldn't expect the origins figures to last as well as the vintage ones myself. I can already see issues with them.

Whatever a collector prefers for repairing their broken legs, it's worth saying it's simply a shame Mattel designed the vintage MOTU line with such an odd thing as a rubber leg band for leg attachments. Perhaps they didn't consider the impact these toys would have on boys and girls decades into the future, but I wish all of the legs were designed like Terror Claws Skeletor and Flying Fists He-Man.
