Navy vet here: Condition "Zebra" is the most watertight setup for the ship, normally set during battle stations. It involves closing every watertight door and hatch on the ship, so if one compartment gets flooded it is contained in a smaller area.
A note to the above; one of the biggest differences between a warship and a civilian ship, the degree of compartmentalization. If the Titanic had been compartmentalized like a warship it might very well have survived the collision with the iceberg. If the hatches had been sealed before the collision it might have even gotten as good as likely to have survived.
Great catch on the irony that magneto couldn’t control the bullet to save his mom and after he learns how to he ends up paralyzing someone he loves. The writing in this movie is underrated
Most of it was solid, but this scene seemed.... silly? He could have just yanked her gun, or yeeted her like the others... but nope he needs to try to stop bullets (and can't?). But the end result of the Paralysation being Magneto's fault is good, just... clunky?
It actually makes sense that Magneto couldn't stop the bullet that killed his mom, since the bullets at that time were mostly made of lead, which is non-magnetic. By the 60s... lead was still a major component, but some other alloys were getting mixed in as well, which explains Magneto being able to affect them, though not control them.
@@lokithecat7225 Your forgetting this is young impulsive magneto. Not the master of magnetism yet. So it still makes sense that its a horrible accident. Also moira was firing rapidly so magneto had to focus on deflecting bullets before taking the gun away
I remember a lot of criticism for how Darwin was handled, partly by cutting to his face when Cross mentioned being enslaved (which was really on-the-nose and exploitative), but mostly because Darwin is one of the most resilient and powerful characters in the comics, and he got killed so easily and quickly in this movie.
It surprised me how quickly they killed him. Good to know that in the comics he would have survived that. It makes more sense considering he's supposed to be able to adapt to anything.
are people as angry when Black bolt and Smartest man alive was destroyed by Wanda in Dr Strange MOM while the other other female captain had a better fight? do people not realize it's terrible writting
@@IamNinjaOfNinja Apples and oranges. Wanda's power is MAGIC. Technically, a strong magician can destroy any other power, so if she destroyed a smart and STRETCHING Mr. Fantastic, or a VOCAL Black Bolt, or even an ADAPTIVE Darwin, it would make sense. It will never make any sense for Darwin to not adapt to some redirected energy, and you're a clown to even try to equate the two.
I just looked up the MCR1 gene in Moira. So her hair looks brown but its supposed to be auburn. Which is a reddish brown that can sometimes look more brown than red but is technically RED hair. The actress might just have brown hair and they are calling it auburn to get away with not dyeing her hair but thats what I found with my GED on google searching.
Moira MacTaggert (who's played by Rose Byrne here) was in the post-credit scene of The Last Stand in the hospital when Charles wakes up, also that blonde lady is Emma Frost, she has telepathic abilities and she can change into an organic diamond form as you can see. Also Hank McCoy is called Beast
18:20 ---No he did not do a cameo .... X-Men creator Stan Lee who regularly made cameos in other Marvel-based movies, explained that he was unable to participate in First Class because "they shot it too far away" !
Radiation doesn't make mutants more powerful. However, even in real life radiation can cause mutations. The Xmen are also known as the children of the atom. The atomic age led to an increase in mutations. Remember the Xmen first appeared in the comics in the 60s.
In the comic books, Darwin tries to fight the Hulk on a couple of occassions. The first time, his mutation makes him stronger, but not enough to beat the Hulk. The second time, Darwin's mutation gives him teleportation. BY TELEPORTING HIM AWAY FROM THE HULK! Adapt to survive. ;-)
The movies really did a disservice to Darwin’s powers, he’s one of the strongest Mutants. He’s virtually un-killable and in the comics he would have survived that.
Alex is older in the movies, younger in the comics. The two universes have different histories. Just as the original "First Class" of X-Men were different in the comics, and Mystique was never a member of the team.
Kevin's German is really not bad. A native speaker would find the accent a bit weird, but he gets the pronunciation pretty well, and for an actor who's not exactly understated, he doesn't ham it up. There are some really horrible attempts at German in Hollywood movies, so I appreciate this one.
To me, this is the best X-Men movie. It does character development the best for all characters involved! The team building, Erik and Xavier’s friendship and motivations, the villain, the coin scene, all perfectly done
From this point on, the X-Men universe isn’t suuuuper concerned with continuity. Like, it was probably never in the plan for Charles and Raven to grow up together which is why they were only ever enemies in the original movies. In X1 Charles says he met Eric when he was 17 and that Eric helped him build Cerebro. So the continuity and timelines get REALLY wonky starting with this movie
@@reactswithjax It recently came out that Nightcrawlers real parents were Mystique and Destiny (Mystique’s long term, true love girlfriend). Destiny carried him, and Mystique provided the male… ahem… part.
Is that really required to be the best? Too many fans are determined to be miserable because they want the movies to be exact copies of the source material.
@adarsh4764 This was still the better film in my opinion. Days is more exciting I'll give you that. But McAvoy and Fassbender here are giving phenomenal performances.
I really like how Charles lost his ability to walk in this film connecting him closer to Magneto. In the Mainline comics Lucifer (An alien who came to Earth as the vanguard of an alien invasion) dropped a massive stone block on Charles, crippling his legs in retaliation after a young Xavier defeated him. In the Ultimate Universe Magneto paralyzed Xavier with a metal spear through the back after Charles realised that Magneto was building a Mutant Army. So Charles and his sympathizers tried to escape and in the end Charles got paralyzed. Magneto like alot of characters in the Ultimate Universe was pretty unlikeable and he's one of the few renditions of the character that is just an awful person, no grey area just straight up a villain. In the end Magneto ultimately snapped Charles neck in one of the worse comic book storylines ever Ultimatum. So thankfully this film never went in that direction and showcased Magento as a more anti hero who became a villain that still has morals in regards to human life.
I believe at the end credit scene of X-Men last Stand, the name of the lady who's comma patient speaks in Charles' voice is named Moira. Not sure if she's supposed to be the same one, but my guess is yes.
Moria Mactaggert, Scottish name. In the comics had red hair fair skin and freckles in the early days. Over time these features were altered a bit from artist to artist.
13:38 "Could you block her? The way she's blocking you?" Yes, that's essentially what he's saying: he'll be able to prevent her from messing with his own team's minds, but that's going to take all his focus so he won't be able to mess with the enemies' minds in the way he had expected to.
It’s mental that (the English) Nicholas Holt does an American accent for Beast whereas (the American) Kelsey Grammer gave Beast an English accent like the 90s cartoon.
I always thought of Beast's accent in the cartoon was to make him sound more scholarly then actually "British" as he would quote Shakesphere and the like. Perhaps he spoke that way because to him it sounded smarter.
@gboy1973 Good point. Given young Hank's characterization here, it would 100% make sense that he would later assume an accent to make himself seem more "erudite."
Talking about accents... How come Mystique doesn't develop a British accent after spending so many years with Charles in England? That's what usually happens to people that move abroad at such a young age.
10:52 The powers and abilities of Emma Grace Frost: Telepathic abilities: Mental sedation, paralysis, and suggestions Psionic blast, shielding, and lightning Mind reading and control Telepathic illusions Pain inducement Astral projection Power inhibition Memory wiping Shape-shifting into an organic diamond form, granting: Superhuman strength, durability, and stamina Nigh-invulnerability Psychic immunity (but greatly diminishing her psychic powers) Skilled hand-to-hand combatant
Did you know that Emma Frost here is the sister of Kayla Silverfox. The sister that Stryker abducted in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. You saw her in her diamond form, for a moment, just before Scott wiped out the guards with his eyes so that the kids can escape. And Azazel here is the father of Nightcrawler from X2.
Stan Lee only had cameos in a few X-Men movies. X1 (X-Men), X3 (last stand) and Apocalypse. He's also in Deadpool - the one we're all looking for. Also easily his best cameo.
The scene where Magneto kills the two Nazis in the bar is one of the most satisfying revenge scenes in any movie. It’s also kind of a mirror image of Fassbender’s scene in Inglorious Basterds.
@@reactswithjax there's another genius in the Marvel Universe. You probably haven't seen em yet but you should check out the 2000s Fantastic Four movies. The leader of that is Reed Richards a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic and in the comics he's the smartest man alive. Smarter than Tony, Bruce or Hank
In COMICS there are 7 most Smartest Men those are > HANK ( BEAST ) > HANK PYM > TCHALLA(BLACKPANTHER) >REEDRICHARDS(MR.FANTASTIC) > TONY STARK > BRUNCE BANNER > AMADEOUS CHOE
Fun fact from Behind the Scenes: This movie introduced Nicholas Hoult (Hank McCoy/Beast) and Jennifer Lawrence to each other, and the onscreen chemistry led to an off screen romance for five years. Basically because they were both so busy, it took its toll on the relationship and they broke up. Nicholas is filming a new comic book movie now....he's joined the DC Universe under James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) in the next Superman film that will star David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern/Guy Gardner). and Milly Alcock (from HBO's House of the Dragon as Supergirl)...Nicholas will be the bad guy...the archnemesis of Superman, Lex Luthor. Where the OG X-Men movies gave us the Friendship Goals teaming of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as BFFs, the First Class cast gave us James MacAvoy and Michael Fassbender not only kinda being the same thing as off screen BFFs, but leading to all sorts of...fan art of romantic couplings of Charles and Erik (even though both James and Michael are married men). They both laugh at the fan art and slash fiction that's been created. Now that you've seen your first Matthew Vaughn film, some others to put on the list: - The Kingsmen: The Secret Service (1) with Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Michael Caine, and Samuel L. Jackson. This series are amazing spy action movies. - The Kingsmen: The Golden Circle (2) with Colin, Taron, and Mark, plus Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry, and Sir Elton John. - The King's Man (3) - A prequel with Ralph Fiennes - Stardust with Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Robert DeNiro, and Michelle Pfeiffer, based on the fantasy novel by Neil Gaiman. - Kick-Ass with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Nicholas Cage. A twist on superheroes if they really existed. - Layer Cake with Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Michael Gambon, and Sienna Miller. This one is like the films he produced that were directed by Guy Ritchie: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.)
In the comics, millions of years ago, the Celestials experimented with beings throughout the galaxies and infused them with powers. (Remember the story about the Infinity Stones and Celestials that the Collector was explaining to the Guardians in the first movie?) The Kree (Blue people from Guardians and Captain Marvel) for example, were only lower life forms when the Celestials took their planet and upgraded them. The Kree became an advanced people and built an empire, eventually started experimenting on other life forms too, but for the benefit of using them to increase the formidable power of the Kree empire. When the Celestials came to earth to experiment on humans, they first created mutated beings called The Deviants, which looked more monster like, and were to weed out the competing Apex predators that could endanger the human race that they were experimenting on. Those Deviants got out of hand and became the newer problem. BTW..Thanos is the creation of 2 Celestials but somehow ended up becoming a Deviant. ( purple looking monster) The other experimented humans pretty much stayed human like and had powers..they were called Eternals. Fast forward millions of years later and descendants from those beings who have the dormit "X gene" can have that gene awakened by exposure to radiation..in Bruce's and Steve Rogers's case that would be Gamma Ray. I think that Bruce and his cousin share a Deviant X gene because they turn into green monsters. Also, I think maybe his female cousin (She Hulk) maybe have a spliced one with part Eternal blood. So, Shaw's plan to let the world get bombed with nukes is do to the fact that he knows it will awaken the dormit X Gene in those who have it. There are some people who are just X gene carriers and pass it on to their kids, without being enhanced themselves. Exposure to space radiation, will cause them to get a high level of cancer. My theory is that's what happened to Quill's mom. Ego was a Celestial who learned how to make a human body. He went out trying to procreate with beings to find some with the descendant X gene. I think he put radiation into her body because he needed Quill's unborn body to absorb it and possibly manifest the gene he needed to help him carry out his mission from Guardians.. 2. In present times these super powered beings are called Mutants. I didn't deep dive into all the backstory, because I know comics get alternate stories told by different comic book writers, over time. The MCU writers take most of their story arcs from the written material, but also to use as a blueprint to make their own twists on the lores of the characters and their arcs. The Xmen movies did a poor job at continuity, but they gave amusing adaptations of the comics they used as resources.
I always wondered where Thanos came from and why he was so powerful! This was a really interesting backstory on how things came to be. You summarized things so well. Thank you!
In comics, the teleporting red mutant, named Azazel and Mysthic are parents of Nightcrawler in some era... They changes everytime! The Diamond girl is named Emma Frost, the White Queen, she has 2 powers, but use one for time. The girl Moira is the same character from X-Men 3 Last Stand.
You could say that all genetic traits were mutations in their origin so when Charles pointed out Moira's hair colour and mentioned that it was due to the MCR1 gene he was just flexing his knowledge of genetics. The MCR1 gene itself was a mutation at some point, he wasn't saying that she had a mutated version of the MCR1 gene just that she had that particular gene/mutation. For the sake of the movie and to explain mutants the writing and dialogue overuse the word mutation but in reality we would just say gene or genetic trait.
Darwins death always annoyed me in this film, his power literally doesnt let him die. It even goes so far as teleporting him away when faced with the hulk.
Some mutants have second mutation. Emma Frost is a villain in the comics called “The White Queen” who started as a villain. She has telepathy comparable to that of Charles but lesser to Jean’s. Her second mutation is her diamond form where she is immune to telepathy, has increased strength and durability, however, when she is in her diamond form she won’t be able to use her power. Also, Alex Summers also known as “Havok” is the younger brother of Scott Summers who can produce plasma blasts from his hands.
For your question about the hair gene coloring effect of MC1R, essentially MC1R (incorrectly called MCR1 in the movie) is responsible for variation of pigmentation of red-yellow hues. AkA-auburn and brown hair colors. Its a mutation of genes that effect how much MC1R ramps up or powers down production of those red-yellow pigments. Since we see it all the time, it’s hard to refer to it as a mutation but technically speaking, white skin could also be considered (assuming because I didn’t look this up) a mutation since humanity started in Africa.
The Brown Hair Groovy Moira Mactaggert is the same Moira in the end credit scene of X2 when we find out Xavier is still alive in a hospital somewhere. Also Emma Frost the "Diamond Lady", is the kidnaped sister in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, her sister is the Wolverine's lover in that movie.
Mutants are the allegory of people with different religion, skin, beliefs (although Stan Lee used to say that all he did is create those heroes to make end make ends meet). In comics and also in movies they often show the conflict on how some are afraid of them and that some believe that earth has no place for both. Some mutants believe the same way, just the other way around. Such a cool concept!
I love these reactions when you see the joy horror and genuine surprise of how moments and the plot starts to make sense. Jax.x pure joy when she realizes Hank is the Beast.. She looks like she just figured out the meaning of life. Thanks Jax you always make me smile and laugh. Cheer's Beautiful.x
I'm so happy that you enjoyed this! That was such a great reveal! Hank is a wonderful character. It was nice to see his backstory. Thanks for watching!!
10:53 Emma Frost is an Omega level telepath, but also has a secondary mutation that allows her to change all of her body cells into pure carbon, aka diamonds. Since her character is really only in this movie, I'll spoil the rest for you: She is obscenely rich, like Tony Stark levels of rich, in the comics. She eventually becomes an anti-hero, and then, following a few tragic events, becomes a full blown member of the X-Men, then a teacher, and eventually the headmistress of the Xavier school. She is still an active X-Men member, however, and has been in some pretty massive fights, including the Avengers vs X-Men arc that kicked off the current era of Marvel comics.
People growing up watching the legendary "X-Men animated series and then being able to watch these movies over the years is so good and obviously to ppl who read the comics as well. My cousin loves "Beast man and Wolverine. Watching the series and playing the games made me a big "X-Men fan. We also have "X-Men '97. Great time to be an "X-Men fan.🎉
Hi Jax! Yes, this movie was so good! I was very impressed and surprised by it. It's hard sometimes to get used to new actors playing your favorite characters, but the cast was amazing. I hope you are well and I can't wait for the next one! You're awesome! 👏👋
Hi! This movie was so fun. I'm glad you enjoyed my reaction! Yes, the actors did a wonderful job. It's such a challenge taking on an already beloved role. ❤
And Princess Shuri can brainstorm circles around them. T'Challa is really smart too, but I believe Shuri is supposed to be the smartest of them all, I believe.
When they say “we need our army” , it kind of makes sense for there to be very limited mutants and how they can control their powers. This time period is the beginning of basically the whole franchise - so you can assume that mutants have only recently started popping up in modern society again. That along with the fact that it’s still extremely difficult to try and train your powers when 1) you think you’re the only person who has gifts and no one else can help you understand your own and 2) anything you do that other humans don’t understand gets you usually either locked up or experimented on. It’s also thematically symbolic to show that the X-Men were in fact started from basically nothing.
Also, fun fact, the post credit scene from X-men 3 when the woman says "Charles?" where its believed he has been implanted in a new body after death, i believe the woman there is Moira :)
Shaw didn't believe that radiation made mutants more powerful, he simply felt that radiation would lead to more mutants in the general population, along with killing off most of the humans. Absorbing energy just happened to be his own unique mutant ability.
I NEVER considered that Erik could have stopped the bullet in the beginning. I don't even know if he knew at the time, but you're right, that would really weigh on him!
Don't worry about the timelines, they weren't consistent in the comics either. Edit 1: 3:00 hi, German here. Let's say, Kevin Bacon did an admirable job of learning enough German to get it grammatically correct. He even got the infamous "ch" diphthong almost correct. But let's say, if he had tried to impersonate a German as a foreign spy, his gig would have been up at around the third word. I can't overemphasize how impressed I am at his attempt, and it's not terrible but very definitely very noticeable. If you've seen "Inglorious Bastards" it would definitely NOT have been blowing his cover by holding up the wrong fingers for 3 but the very noticeable accent.
I'm recently rewatching the 90's Xmen cartoons because I don't remember most of it. But in the cartoon Charles and Moira were exes. She had a child with Sabertooth's son. Banshee, in this movie, is an American teenager. In the cartoon, he is an older gentleman who is dating Moira. They are both Scottish.
When I was looking up the gene info, it said that having red hair doesn't mean you have a MCR-1 variation. But many people with red hair do. I'll assume that's what they were referring to then!
@@reactswithjax I didn't say red hair was mcr1. Her hair is primarily brown which is mcr1 but the fact that there is some red mixed into it makes it a mutated mcr1.
8:47 13 Years Later & STILL my favorite X-Men scene 🔥 One of my favourite movie scenes EVER! Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr/Magneto is perfect casting 👌
Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon ->Rade Serbedzija -->Val Kilmer (The Saint)->Denzel Washington (Deja Vu) ->Jodie Foster (Inside Man) -->Sir Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs)
5:15 fun fact. Michael Fassbender (Eric) had a role in the series "Hex" (Azazael), and the black bob-haired woman also had a role in "Hex" (something bad-Fairy) :)
Moira MacTaggert was a character you have seen briefly before. She was caring for an unnamed brain-dead man Charles was holding a class about in X-3: The Last Stand and who recognized Charles Xavier's consciousness had inhabited the body during the end-credit scene of that film. And you will see her again in a future film.
25:10 So to explain to you how far can Darwin's powers go, in the comics he was once touched by the goddess of death and to survive his mutation made HIM a god of death that overpowers her. His mutation is supposed to he THAT powerful. What makes him fun is that he cannot control in what he is going to adapt to, so it's not like he can transform into a god by command, but he is literally UNKILLABLE.
As a german speaker, Kevin Bacons german is best described as "tolerable". I could understand him, but immediately knew he was from an english speaking country. Still his acting was really good.
3:00 Let's say a solid D+ I don't really believe he understands a word he's saying, but at least he tried his own speech pattern instead of copying the go-to comedian style^^ Fassbender is solid, but they explored his subtle accent wonderfully in Inglourious Basterds. Who really surprised me was Taika Waititi in What We Do In The Shadows, didn't even notice his switch to German midway through the movie!
I always was under the impression that he's not supposed to be a German, but a doctor working there. Like the way he says something about "The Nazis". At least that's what made me accept his terrible German 😂
41:29 - because Erik uses the metals from their's suit to throw them but mystique is not wearing the actual suit... it's just her skin without any metal...so magneto can't throw her... intresting detail
I'd argue against this since before suiting up, Charles said everyone should wear a suit as they don't have a bullet proof mutation. I'd imagine he'd want Mystique to wear one too And the fact she wasn't thrown was because of the connection Megneto has made with her and does not want to harm her (until she is no longer a mutant in the future and leaves her)
I'm sure many will disagree with this but I REALLY think you need to watch Green Lantern before you get to Deadpool. It's not even that bad but it's a huge part of Ryan Reynold's career and how many jokes he makes at its expense in the years since. Jax will enjoy it more than many of the haters anyways
Hi, one of the things that I've not seen mentioned anywhere is how much of the way Eric is portrayed, particularly when he is solo, is based on the Sean Connery James Bond of that era. From the twangy guitars of his theme to his outfits, particularly in the scene with the banker. When he turns and shoots the guy in South America it is reminiscent of the famous Bond gun barrel opening and the jacket he wears in Russia is similar to that worn by Pierce Brosnan in the opening scene of Tomorrow Never Dies. Amazing reaction as always Jax. (Perhaps that's your super power😉) X
There are things established in the old movies that are retconned in this one, this is sort of a soft reboot movie. Cerebro was built by Charles and Erik in the old movies, and Mystique was never written to have any sort of relation to Charles. Even so, these movies do kind of provide an interesting background for the old movies even if it's not 1:1.
Heres the story on how Stan Lee created the X-men if your interested. (note: this is how Stan lee created the original comic story of the x men which is very different from the movies). This is how it started - in 1963 Stan lee has already created a lot of comic superheroes and their stories some of these are spiderman, hulk, captain america, fantastic four, iron man and many more but then of course he wanted to introduce another group of heroes he came up with to comic book lovers. a team of five heroes which has Cyclops who shots laser beam out of his eyes, Marvel girl (Jean Grey) who can move things with her mind, Iceman who has ice powers, beast who has Superhuman strength, stamina, and reflexes, and then there is Angel how can fly due to having giant wings on his back these are the original X-men Stan lee created (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast and Angel) and they are lead by a man who has telepathic abilities named Charles Xavier. Stan has one big problem though when it comes to this creation of his, and that is he cant come up with a origin story for them. just like how he created his previous creations like spiderman, hulk, iron man etc, he needs to come up with a story on how/where these characters got their superpowers. it took a very long while of thinking and thinking but he couldnt just come up with a story and because of this he had this idea which he thought was silly and thats what if these characters didnt got there powers from somewhere, what if these characters already have power from the beginning like they were born that way, he thought it might not work and that readers would hate it. but this also lead him to the fact that there are actually Mutations in real life, like there are people born with extra fingers (Polydactyly) or people who have different colored eyes (heterochromia), and many more. he thought this is a great idea because it would be a good kind of plot for the story, having character who are hated and judge by the society because they are born different. so he then shared it to his co-workers and publisher and they ended up loving it. original this superhero team he created are known as "The Mutants" which his co-workers and publisher didnt really like, they told Stan he needs to change it, because many of comicbook readers in the 60s are children and that it's either they don't know what a Mutant is or that Mutants are scary monsters, so Stan need to rename the team something thats sounds cool and dramatic. then he remember the leader of the team's name is Charles Xavier which made him take the first letter of his surname and then put it next to the word "Men" , which he thought could work because the word "X-Men" also kinda states that they are "Not Human". and that is how X-Men was created which is now one of the most successful comics in history. as the years go by they then added new characters such as wolverine, storm, nightcrawler , and many more.
That was so fun to read! I love that the concept of mutants were created out of a desire not to have to come up with individual backstories for all of the characters.
I’m just glad you’re not confused about how Charles can be paralyzed now but walk in the later (earlier for us) movies. Don’t worry about that, just think of it as timelines and alternative realities. Even though the real reason is writing but can’t really fault them when they didn’t think they’d get more chances to expand on their stories. At least that’s what I tell myself.
Hey Jax, since you asked: As a german i can say his german is actually very good! However it is super clear to a german that he isnt german due to his accent. Thats actually something that bothers me in movies, like why not get a german american actor with both mother tongues? :D It always throws me off a bit hahaha but its ok ig :)
Days Of Future Past does a superb way of combining these actors with the previous ones in the 90s x-men movies. I think mostly all of your questions will be answered and then some 👍🏾
To your questions: Would radiation make mutants stronger? No, not necessarily. But the theory is that more mutants started showing up after nuclear testing started, so then a full war would sprout a LOT of mutants, and then they could rule. Did fans of the comics like this? Yes and no. It's a good movie, I like how closely it ties to the themes, but I'm dissapointed that they didn't keep the original class as Scott, Jean, Bobby (Iceman), Hank, and Warren (Angel). I know we saw them in the first movies, but they should be Xavier's first students. Do they have romances? In one of the universes (the Ultimates) Charles and Moira got together. In the main universe, they're portrayed as just colleagues. Thanks for the fun video as always!
Yeah, thats like the same problem i always had with the Avengers in the MCU, since i never have read X-Man comics, but a lot Avengers when they first came out here in Germany. And for me the first Avenger was always Hank Pym, and he was also the one who built Ultron. So i don't have the problems with the X-Men movies so much, only with the whole Phonix Saga that i new at least from the animated show, but i just hate how the treated Hank Pym, and also of course Janet, in the MCU.
Thanks for filling in some of the backstory for me. I didn't realize mutants started becoming more common after nuclear testing. Looks like Moira and Charles got a tiny romance but will stay colleagues in this storyline. I'm so glad you enjoyed my reaction!
They did a good job on this with the backstory with Prof X and Magneto and considering the actors ppl already have in mind from previous movies, the 2 leads did great and carved their own versions of the characters.
the MR-1 gene deals with brown hair but she has auburn hair which is brown with a splash of red, which I understood to be the mutation. I am not stating that all red heads are mutants just that the red showing up in the brown was a mutation of the MCR-1 gene.
23:50 In the original X-Men comics, mutants were called "The Children of the Atom." While there had been mutants throughout history, they were very very rare until mankind started doing nuclear tests. It was the bombs going off in Russia and the USA during the tests, as well as the weapons used in Japan, that caused mutation to explode (no pun intended) around the world as the radiation caused changes in the X-gene of mankind, allowing for mutants to be born of non-mutant parents.
Jax, the Crystal Psychic is Emma Frost , the White Queen, you can see more of her in the 1995 movie, Generation X , when she takes over Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters after the Professor passes away
let's not forget magneto's theme, called "frankenstein's monster" by composer henry jackman (no relation to hugh). there are a least five variations in the movie, including the credit roll.
10:04 A mutated MCR-1 gene refers to the red tint of Moira's brown hair. He explains what he means immediately after your cut when he says "I say MCR1, you would say auburn hair."
Here is a curious fun fact. Bullets are a non-ferrous material: lead. Therefore, a bullet cant be controlled by magnetic waves. Youd think that somebody, anybody during the filming of the movie miggt have pointed out that little tidbit of information, but no. In fact there have been other Xmen movies that shows Magneto stopping a bullet... but how???
In the original comic book the X-Men were the Beast, Iceman, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Angel and Cyclops. Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants were Magneto, Toad, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Mastermind (the ability to cast illusions). In the comics Banshee who became part of the second wave of mutants burned out his voice and power holding back a volcanic eruption. In the second group of X-MEN in addition to the ones we have seen in various movies there was Thunderbird, who was superfast (not as much as Quicksilver), super strong, and enhanced senses. He died in the mission rescuing the original X-Men. Also there was Sunfire, a Japanese mutant who could fly and could generate extreme amount of heat. After the rescue mission he left the group.
word of advice, don't think too much about what is supposed to happen when or where in a timeline anything takes place. the x-men movies are notorious for having the messiest continuity by far
Scott Summers is Cyclops, so you either meant Scott Summers is Havok's older brother (in the comics) or Alex Summers is Cyclops' older brother (in the movies).
Yeah meant Alex, was thinking of clops and accidentally typed Scott, didn't realize it, wish this thing would let me edit, some reason doesn't give the option.
in the Comics the first X MEN was Cyclops, Beast ,Jean Grey , male Angel , Ice Man and in the comics Cyclops is older then Havok . but in the Ultimate X MEN Comics the comic at times would say in that universe Havok was the older brother and the movies where said to have been taking some stuff from the Ultimate comics . also in the Comics the way Darwin powers work he shouldn't have died
Hey, Jacqueline! After the original trilogy, the story rewinds to tell two prequel tales about Wolverine in 1979 and Xavier in 1962 before resuming where we left off with "THE WOLVERINE". Make sure you see the EXTENDED EDITION of "THE WOLVERINE" next and be aware of the END-CREDIT SCENE that leads into "DAYS OF FUTURE PAST". Matthew Vaughn not only captured the '60's era but integrated real history into X-Men lore. The historical context, the back stories and the casting were phenomenal! The franchise was moribund after the third entry's lack of fidelity to classic source material and the wildly uneven Wolverine origin movie but this film injected fresh energy and blood into the franchise. It still veered dramatically from comic book accuracy despite the Grant Morrison-style uniforms and Nazi hunting sequences but it capitalized, as all X movies do, on the powerful duality of Charles and Erik. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are as amazing as Charles and Erik as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were! Red demon guy Azazel is Nightcrawler's father! Although nothing like his character in the comics, Kevin Bacon is a vicious villain in this. I liked Oliver Platt's sympathetic character and felt terrible he had such a small role to play. Anything kitschy was deliberate and the acknowledgement of the first trilogy with cameos by Rebecca Romijn and Hugh Jackman was a real treat. Emma Frost was a real let-down although it was through no fault of January Jones. The origins of these characters and the schism between them is absolutely fascinating. This is the only movie that is the same in all three X-Men timelines and is the chronological starting point for the whole cinematic X-Men universe. There is no X-Men movie that doesn't entertain on some level including the duds. This is one of the richer ones.

The writing was great!
@@DanielGonzalez-xu1hi Exactly. So many critics seem to forget the decades of experience that separate this Magneto from the one in "present day."
This and sewing Deadpool's mouth shut in X-Men: Origins are among the dumbest decisions in comic book movies history

I love that we are going down this rabbit hole now and becoming mid-level gene experts!
Everyone has a GED. "Google Education Degree". 😉
Moira's a redhead in the comics so maybe it was just left in the script 😂
Moira MacTaggert (who's played by Rose Byrne here) was in the post-credit scene of The Last Stand in the hospital when Charles wakes up, also that blonde lady is Emma Frost, she has telepathic abilities and she can change into an organic diamond form as you can see. Also Hank McCoy is called Beast

It would have been so fun to see him!
Understandable. He was already pretty old back then.
Radiation doesn't make mutants more powerful. However, even in real life radiation can cause mutations. The Xmen are also known as the children of the atom. The atomic age led to an increase in mutations. Remember the Xmen first appeared in the comics in the 60s.
Ooh, I didn't realize that the X-Men were linked to the atomic age!
Adapt to survive. ;-)
I love that! What a great mutation.
The movies really did a disservice to Darwin’s powers, he’s one of the strongest Mutants. He’s virtually un-killable and in the comics he would have survived that.

It's a pretty phenomenal film. The coin scene was really well shot!
Kind of you to suggest there was a plan at all 😆
I want there to be more continuity so badly! But it's still fun to see these characters again.

They do such a great job with Magneto's character in this film. I'm glad they didn't follow the Ultimate Universe storyline.
Red hair? Must be a Weasley.

That's really funny!

Bruh.
In the comics, millions of years ago, the Celestials experimented with beings throughout the galaxies and infused them with powers.
(Remember the story about the Infinity Stones and Celestials that the Collector was explaining to the Guardians in the first movie?)
The Kree (Blue people from Guardians and Captain Marvel) for example, were only lower life forms when the Celestials took their planet and upgraded them.
( purple looking monster)
The other experimented humans pretty much stayed human like and had powers..they were called Eternals.

I have never seen full of positive energies emitted from a reactor like no one else likes you do. ❤
Thank you so much!!❤️ Also, Matt Murdock is such a great character! Love your name and thumbnail.
Yes, in the comics. Sadly the movies are a different universe where Darwin was terribly nerfed.
What a shame he didn't survive. He was such a cool character.
Fassbender is so good as magneto. He imitated the voice in the X-Men cartoon from the 90's that was such a huge part of my love of comics growing up.
I agree that he's such a great Magneto.

Mutants are the allegory of people with different religion, skin, beliefs (although Stan Lee used to say that all he did is create those heroes to make end make ends meet). In comics and also in movies they often show the conflict on how some are afraid of them and that some believe that earth has no place for both. Hank McCoy/Beast is one of the smartest characters in Marvel comics. Up there with the likes of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Hank Pym and Reed Richards.
Ooh, thank you!
Oh my goodness! That's very different than this movie!
Her hair isn't straight up brown, it is auburn which really is just a reddish brown. So she does have MCR-1 but a mutated version of it.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon ->Rade Serbedzija -->Val Kilmer (The Saint)->Denzel Washington (Deja Vu) ->Jodie Foster (Inside Man) -->Sir Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs)
For future romances, Mystique and Azazel get together and create Nightcrawler. That's why he's blue and teleports 😁.
That's right! I didn't realize it was the same character.
I don't know why he wasn't just dubbed by an authentic German speaker.
3:00
Let's say a solid D+
I don't really believe he understands a word he's saying, but at least he tried his own speech pattern instead of copying the go-to comedian style^^
Fassbender is solid, but they explored his subtle accent wonderfully in Inglourious Basterds.
Thank you for the accent/language review!
I'd imagine he'd want Mystique to wear one too
And the fact she wasn't thrown was because of the connection Megneto has made with her and does not want to harm her (until she is no longer a mutant in the future and leaves her)
I'm sure many will disagree with this but I REALLY think you need to watch Green Lantern before you get to Deadpool. It's not even that bad but it's a huge part of Ryan Reynold's career and how many jokes he makes at its expense in the years since. Jax will enjoy it more than many of the haters anyways
Well, yes, probably.
The continuity issues can be a bit confusing. I feel like these X-Men movies are a game of improv...you just go with it!
Thank you for your insight and expertise! ❤️
Days Of Future Past does a superb way of combining these actors with the previous ones in the 90s x-men movies. I think mostly all of your questions will be answered and then some 👍🏾
She's going to LOVE Days of Future's Past!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed my reaction!
fun fact alex summer is scotter summer cyclop older brother in movie but in comic I heard he younger brother of scott summer correct me if I wrong.
Wait ! The person in X-Men Apocalypse or Dark Pheonix who admitted Cyclops in xaviers school was Alex ? Then why was he not working with x-mens ?
@@Tushar_995spoliers...
Yes, in the comics, Havok is Cyclops's younger brother. They also have a third brother, Vulcan.
Alex is the leader of X-factor and he is in love with Magneto's daughter, Lorna.
@LaerteSatan nope. I've been an X-men fan since the 80s.
They did a good job on this with the backstory with Prof X and Magneto and considering the actors ppl already have in mind from previous movies, the 2 leads did great and carved their own versions of the characters.
Yeah, it's not easy to take on roles that other actors played so well. They did a really great job.
the MR-1 gene deals with brown hair but she has auburn hair which is brown with a splash of red, which I understood to be the mutation. I am not stating that all red heads are mutants just that the red showing up in the brown was a mutation of the MCR-1 gene.
Highly underrated X men film, great directing, soundtrack and dialogue ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🫡
It's such a fun film! ❤
"None of us have mutated to endure extreme g-force or being riddled by bullets"
Darwin: "Am I a joke to you?"
It's not that radiation makes mutants more powerful, it speeds up the mutation process in regular humans to create more mutants
Ooh. Thank makes sense. Thank you
Here is a curious fun fact.
Fun fact, mystique and Azazel are night crawlers parents and scott summers is cyclops's older brother
Jax when Charles and Moira finally kissed... "YES! YES!!"
Jax 3 seconds later... "He erased her memory are you kidding me!?!"
😂😂
It was not okay!!! 😭
I want to thank you & Lamby for helping Eric turn that satellite dish. You two did a great job!👍👍
Thank you so much! Lamby's abilities often go underappreciated! ☺️
Condition zebra means they close all the water-tight doors. In case there is an attack, the ship is less likely to sink.
Thank you for explaining that!
This one is my second favorite, topped only by Days of Future Past
